[Bug 1016639] Re: LT2P VPN connection issue
Thank you for investigating this issue. I'm not sure there's enough justification to put the fix into Ubuntu directly right now. If someone familiar with the protocol and code base can provide more technical detail on why this is a production-ready fix, or if upstream patch it (indicating that it is suitable for production) then I think that would change. Or, of course, if an Ubuntu developer disagrees with me. For now, it sounds like the best venue for this workaround would be a patched package in a PPA for users to opt to install if they specifically need this workaround. I'm going to mark this bug Won't Fix for now, in order that it remains searchable and doesn't expire. But please do comment and change the status back to New if more information becomes available or the situation changes (eg. upstream picks up the fix). [Bug 1003296] [NEW] lightdm crashed with SIGSEGV in _pam_winbind_change_pwd() when password is expiring
You have been subscribed to a public bug: My precise client is member of a Windows Domain. [Bug 994963] Re: DNS stops working after some time
I've seen lots of issues in the past with either ISPs with non-compliant DNS services or routers with non-compliant DNS services (including transparent filtering/redirection). This can cause erroneous DNS responses to end up being cached, or resolvers being marked as unreachable. I wonder if this is the issue here? I would debug this sort of issue with tcpdump and wireshark, using dig to generate DNS queries locally, using tcpdump to see what dnsmasq is sending out after the hang, and checking all previous requests and replies to make sure that dnsmasq is really doing something wrong. I'm not sure how to do this without a developer having the ability to reproduce the problem though. I'll set the Priority of the dnsmasq task to Medium for now, but if it turns out that a wide range of Ubuntu users are affected (ie. lots of routers or lots of ISPs) then we may need to review this. ** Changed in: dnsmasq (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dnsmasq in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/994963 Title: DNS stops working after some time To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/994963/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 990388] Re: acces denied samba printer shares after upgrade precise
Could affected users who haven't already reported please report whether the workaround of adding use client driver = no works for you, or if it fails for you? Assuming that use client driver = yes fixes the problem, it seems to me that this is a question about how the Windows printer driver concept works with samba. If we don't want to ever install Windows printer drivers into samba, then it would make sense for Ubuntu to enable use client driver = yes by default. If we do want to be able to install Windows printer drivers into samba, then we must have use client driver = no (the default) in smb.conf by default. If my understanding is correct, then users can: 1) Set use client driver = yes and install printer drivers locally on each Windows client manually. 2) Set disable spoolss = yes and downgrade samba's behaviour to older printing protocols, which do not support server-side storage of Windows printer drivers. 3) Install a Windows printer driver into samba for each printer for which sharing is required, which is how printing works on Windows servers. This is documented but is a bit involved to set up, but it does provide the cleanest and most functional printing experience to Windows users. So what should the default be? The current packaging does provide defaults to permit the beginnings of option 3, and changing the default to option 1 would break this. ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/990388 Title: acces denied samba printer shares after upgrade precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/990388/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

However, I then get an even nastier problem: downgrading sasl causes OpenLDAP to break - it only works until I try to restart slapd. I get the following in my log files: Jun 25 15:26:59 slapd[6358]: @(#) $OpenLDAP: slapd (Apr 5 2012 16:22:20) $#012#011buildd@allspice:/build/buildd/openldap-2.4.28/debian/build/servers/slapd Jun 25 15:26:59 slapd[6358]: slap_sasl_init: auxprop add plugin failed Jun 25 15:26:59 slapd[6358]: slapd stopped. [Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network
I am having the same issue, and gave an in-depth inspection in my report: bug 1016848 I am running version Essex 2012.1, and networking in VlanManager mode, a dedicated nova-network gateway, KVM and virt-type, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise, and run into this incident in up to every 1-2 days, yesterday even twice within 3 hours. One symptom may be high networking traffic I/O on the given KVM instance. Until now, I worked around by `nova reboot $instance_name`. bradleyd (bradleydsmith), what exactly did you mean by ifdown ifup? the vnet%d interface or the bridge (e.g. br100) ? What interface did you re-up? -- for the mean time, I'd like to write a tiny daemon that runs on the hypervisor nodes, to check every N secs whether or not it can PING the KVM, and if not, it is to re-up its underlying network interface. Serge Hallyn, I'd like to assist in whatever you need to get this beast fixed, since for me this is also a very major incident, too, and I just can't add more production services until knowing the OpenStack-stack is functioning well. So please tell me what I can provide you with. :-) Regards, Christian. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to bridge-utils in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/997978 Title: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bridge-utils/+bug/997978/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 993291] Re: [SRU] package nis 3.17-32ubuntu1.2 failed to install/upgrade: invoke-rc.d: unknown initscript, /etc/init.d/nis not found.
** Description changed: + [Impact] + Users running the version of nis currently in oneiric-proposed will experience an upgrade failure to 12.04. This version (3.17-32ubuntu1.2) already converts systems to upstart; the package in 12.04 checks for 3.17-32ubuntu2 resulting in an error when trying to stop the nis service (which no longer exists). + + I considered checking for 3.17-32ubuntu1.1 in the precise SRU; however + if this gets bumped out of -proposed then upgrades will start to break + again; moving the calls to invoke-rc.d and update-rc.d inside the block + which checks for the existence of the init.d script should resolve this + in a slightly more resilient fashion, + + [Test Case] + Enable oneiric-proposed + sudo apt-get update + sudo apt-get install nis + sudo apt-get install update-manager-core (if not already installed) + sudo do-release-upgrade + ... + nis pre-installation script will fail with error code 100. + + [Regression Potential] + Minimal; this is purely a maintainer script change to make the upgrade process from oneiric-proposed work. + + [Original Bug Report] During upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04 the nis package failed to install ProblemType: Package DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: nis 3.17-32ubuntu1.2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-24.37-generic 3.2.14 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-24-generic i686 ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu7 Architecture: i386 Date: Tue May 1 12:56:35 2012 ErrorMessage: ErrorMessage: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 100 SourcePackage: nis Title: package nis 3.17-32ubuntu1.2 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 100 UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to precise on 2012-05-01 (0 days ago) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to nis in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993291 Title: [SRU] package nis 3.17-32ubuntu1.2 failed to install/upgrade: invoke- rc.d: unknown initscript, /etc/init.d/nis not found. [Blueprint servercloud-q-lxc] Lxc work for Q
Blueprint changed by Serge Hallyn: Whiteboard changed: User Stories: [nested lxc - cgroup premount and apparmor policy] Sallie would like to run juju with lxc on her laptop, but is afraid it may meddle with her laptop's networking setup. So she runs juju inside an lxc container. [lxc-attach] Joe finds one of his containers is not responding to the ssh port, and its consoles are not working. He suspects a problem with its devpts. He uses lxc-attach to run a diagnostics tool inside the container. [user namespace - unprivileged startup] Annie wants to test a root fs tarball sitting on her usb stick. She'd like to start at least a chroot or a whole container in it. But she doesn't have privileges on this machine. She creates a container with private user namespace and boots the rootfs there. [seccomp] Zoe wants to run a flash movie inside a container, but is afraid there may be a kernel system call exploit. She uses seccomp to filter out the most dangerous system calls. [hooks, /var/lib/c1/root, and #includes, openvz migration] Munro supports a large number of containers. Most of the container configuration is shared from a common #included file. When he needs to make a change to all containers, he can change the common included configuration file, have a loop mount new filesystems under each container's root, and add lines to the pre-start hook which the common configuration file defines. [encrypted root] Rupert wants to run an application on an instance in the cloud, but would like for the next cloud user to re-use his instance's disk to not be able to read the application data. He therefore uses an encrypted root for the container. [python api] Yngwie would like to write a script to perform a particular update in each container. He can use the python api to find all containers, then attach to running or execute in non-running containers to perform the update. Assumptions: seccomp gets upstream user namespaces get upstream setns patches get upstream Release Notes: unprivileged startup secure nested containers openvz migration WI notes: 1. seccomp work in lxc is blocked until seccomp is packaged. 2. pivot_root is not possible into a MS_SHARED directory, making our original goal of accessing the container mounts tree through /var/lib/lxc/container/root not possible. + 3. user namespace patch for lxc is up at lp:~serge-hallyn/ubuntu/quantal/lxc/lxc-user-ns. However, it cannot work without some more kernel work, and we cannot be sure it is finalized until that work is done. So marking it blocked. for now, though it should be mostly completed. -- Lxc work for Q https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/servercloud-q-lxc -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1015935] Re: SWAT segfaults when trying to view full configuration
Ok, this actually is a bug in libpam-smbpass, not in swat. When recompiling the packages with debug info, the backtrace from swat is: #0 0xb7217600 in ?? Now, when looking at libpam-smbpass.so symbols with nm, this gives the following iconv-related output: 0008fe20 t close_iconv_convenience 0008fd4c T get_iconv_convenience 00207a80 B global_iconv_convenience U iconv@@GLIBC_2.1 U iconv_close@@GLIBC_2.1 000a111b t iconv_copy U iconv_open@@GLIBC_2.1 000a1057 t iconv_swab 0007c01a T init_iconv 000a0364 t lazy_initialize_iconv 000a03ff T smb_iconv 000a0af6 T smb_iconv_close 00090085 T smb_iconv_convenience_reinit 000a0abc T smb_iconv_open 000a0686 T smb_iconv_open_ex 000a0600 t smb_iconv_t_destructor 000a0389 t sys_iconv Again, note the t close_iconv_convenience, which as far as I understand says that libpam-smbpass contains close_iconv_convenience in it's text section, so there's a copy of that call in libpam-smbpass. Now, if libpam-smbpass is loaded, it seems like swat uses the wrong version of that call, and things go wrong. If you comment out the libpam-smbpass line in /etc/pam.d/common-auth, The crash is gone. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1015935 Title: SWAT segfaults when trying to view full configuration To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/samba/+bug/1015935/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
