[Bug 221939] Re: internet_test crashed with UnboundLocalError in _get_default_gateway_from_bin_route()

2012-07-12 Thread Daniel Manrique
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I looked at the code for internet_test which still exists as part of
checkbox, the successor to hwtest, and it has changed significantly; the
"def_gateway" variable which triggered the problem because it was
referenced before being defined no longer exists. Thus, I'll mark this
bug as invalid since hwtest and Ubuntu 8.04 have reached End of Life and
the replacement software apparently no longer has this problem.

[Bug 805423] Re: pam_motd needs a module option to disable in-line dynamic updates

2012-07-12 Thread Till Klampaeckel
My login session never timeout, I was actually authenticated but never
saw a prompt.

I let it running (sitting there) over night and the shell was still
'active' there after 8 hours – but no prompt.

The load had nothing to do with this. I booted the server (pretty
blank), logged in and then further attempts failed right away. If I
waited too long (and I don't have an exact time), I could not log in at
all.

I *think* it stalled at trying to find out how many people are logged in
to the system. I saw a "[who] defunct" in my process list. But I have no
idea why that caused the my login process to block.

I looked at this script and also ran it while I was logged in and it
completely within reason. Though I would say that it adds too much time
to the login still. It's a noticable delay.

Btw, check out the 'ask ubuntu' link I left in my comment, it contains
the process list with the defunct who and the sysinfo script running.

[Bug 936186] Re: add-apt-repository crashed with error in get_ppa_info_from_lp(): (23, 'Failed writing body (0 != 1607)')

2012-07-12 Thread Stéphane Graber
The initial backtrace and the can't resolve backtrace seem to be quite
different.
The first looks like it would be triggered by some bad data coming over https
where the other one is simply because resolving fails.

Catching the DNS resolution problem should be trivial, the initial
traceback isn't exactly clear on what's going on though.

Right, that was 1.14 as that's what we have in the LTS (and why it
showed up on my buglist to start with).

We have 1.18 in the development release, so I guess this one should be

[Bug 1024016] Re: package python3 3.2.3-2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 4

2012-07-12 Thread Edward Donovan
The file "/usr/share/python3/runtime.d/ubuntu-drivers-common.rtupdate"
calls py3clean with a '-p' package argument, and a directory argument.
This breaks py3clean, which expects one or the other, as seen above.

Line 4 of this short file is:

  py3clean -p ubuntu-drivers-common /usr/share/ubuntu-drivers-common

Removing either of those arguments fixes the problem; "-p ubuntu-
drivers-common", or "/usr/share/ubuntu-drivers-common". I don't know
which might be more proper to use. Both ways worked on my system. So
we want either:

  py3clean /usr/share/ubuntu-drivers-common

Or

  py3clean -p ubuntu-drivers-common

(The other command, the 'py3compile' line, does not seem to have a
problem with multiple arguments.)

Thanks.

Do you think it was landscape-sysinfo running that made your login take
more than 60s and thus timeout?

[Bug 1023566] Re: Update Precise LBM to include v3.4 compat-wireless stack

2012-07-12 Thread Leann Ogasawara
** Description changed:

  == Precise SRU Justification ==
It has been requested we provide a v3.4 based compat-wireless stack for
Precise via the linux-backports-modules-3.2 package. We already provide a v3.3
based compat wireless stack for Precise.

  ==Fix ==
The following branch contains a patch to add the initial compat-wireless v3.4
package:

    git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ogasawara/ubuntu-precise-lbm.git lp1023566

This is based on the latest v3.4.4 stable kernel. This was manually
created following the steps documented at:

  http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Download/hacking#Generating_stable_releases

Manual creation was done because the compat-wireless archive did not
appear to have a final v3.4 based tarball, the latest available was a
  v3.4-rc3:

    http://www.orbit-lab.org/kernel/compat-wireless-3-stable/v3.4

- In order to help make potential maintenance as well as upgrades easier,
- I've only used a 2 digit version scheme, ie 3.4, in the packaging.
+ Additionally, a specific request for the alx driver was made which
+ required the -p flag (ie apply the patches on the linux-next-pending
+ directory) when generating the tarball. Also,In order to help make
+ potential maintenance as well as upgrades easier, I've only used a 2
+ digit version scheme, ie 3.4, in the packaging.

I've also provided a branch to update the meta package:

- git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ogasawara/ubuntu-precise-meta.git lp1023566
+   git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ogasawara/ubuntu-precise-meta.git lp1023566

  == Impact ==
- LBM is an elective install thus there is no regression potential. For those
who do choose to install, it will provide an updated compat wireless stack and
thus new drivers for supporting newer hardware. One example is the alx driver.
+ LBM is an elective install so there shouldn't be any potential for
regression. For those who do choose to install, it will provide an updated
compat wireless stack and thus new drivers for supporting newer hardware. One

[Bug 229544] Re: missing Cancel-button

2012-07-12 Thread Daniel Manrique
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 805465 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/805465

Oddly enough, checkbox, which is the successor to hwtest, *still* has this
issue. However I think it can be duped to
bug 805465, which is about applications whose only way of being closed is by
alt+f4 or by closing the window.

[Bug 282477] Re: Internet_test crashed with UnboundLocalError in_get_default_gateway_from_bin_route()

2012-07-12 Thread Daniel Manrique
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Ubuntu 8.10 reached EOL on April
30th, 2010.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

I've tried recreating this bug with Ubuntu 12.04 and Checkbox, which is
the successor of hwtest, and was unable to. Thus, I believe this bug is
no longer present, so I'll mark it as invalid.

Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1023004] Re: xorg crashes when clicking in inkscape work area

2012-07-12 Thread ~suv
Possibly triggered by a recent upgrade of xserver-related packages as
described in this forum topic:
? Seems to
affect not only Inkscape, but GIMP as well.

It also reminds me of a similar crash which occurred with a recent prerelease
candidate of X11/XQuartz (XQuartz 2.7.2_beta4 (xorg-server 1.12.0.901)) on OS X:
Bug #972914 “[OS X] Crash when clicking inside drawing area with XQuartz 2.7.2
beta4”

which turned out to be a bug in the X server (XQuartz) and not related to
Inkscape's code base.

[Bug 345670] Re: package hwtest-gtk 0.1-0ubuntu10 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-removal script returned error exit status 2

2012-07-12 Thread Daniel Manrique
I see a message on the dpkg log about this file not being found:

/var/lib/dpkg/info/hwtest.postrm

Somehow, the removal process still expected this file to be there and
barfed when it couldn't execute it. May have something to do with the
way you removed/purged the packages.

This particular release of Ubuntu (8.10) reached EOL over a year ago,
and is thus no longer supported. As well, hwtest has been superseded by
checkbox and is now considered obsolete. Thus, I'll mark the bug report
invalid. However, please do report again if you experience a similar
problem on a currently-supported release.

Thanks!

[Bug 1002991] Re: Should be built on powerpc as well

2012-07-12 Thread Richard W.M. Jones
I'm guessing from the messages this is 1.14.8. That's an old version
which we don't support upstream any longer. You should probably try
something from the 1.18.x series.

I got libguestfs (from git) working on ppc and ppc64 recently, and all
of the fixes that I'm aware of have been cherry picked into 1.18.5.
That doesn't mean it'll definitely work, but it's got a far far higher
chance of working than anything from 1.14.

[Bug 1020702] Re: Jockey not showing driver description

2012-07-12 Thread Hendrik Knackstedt
This is not a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jockey/+bug/1011363

That bug was fixed, but this one wasn't!

Please take a look at my screenshot. No descriptions for any driver are
readable because the text is white and not black like it should be.

For example, Virtual Box Guest Additions contain the following
description: "VirtualBox is a free x86 virtualization solution allowing
a wide rangeof x86 operating systems such as Windows, DOS, BSD or Linux
to run on aLinux system.

This package provides the source code for the virtualbox guest addition
kernelmodules to be build with dkms. Kernel sources or headers are
required tocompile these modules."

This is present in Jockey but cannot be read because font color is white
not black.

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 1011363
Jockey shows misc free kernel modules in vain

** Also affects: jockey

[Bug 1022497] Re: udisks does not support Realtek rts5992 SD/MMC card readers.

2012-07-12 Thread Michael Terry
Uploading to precise-proposed and oneiric-proposed. Note that when you
make a changelog entry:

 * Try not to make it so long (wrap it)
 * Include the bug number like LP: #1022497
 * Use SRU versioning (if previous number was 1.0.4-1, use 1.0.4-1ubuntu0.1; if
previous number was 1.0.4-5ubuntu2, use 1.0.4-5ubuntu2.1)
 * Use the right targets (oneiric-proposed and precise-proposed instead of
unstable or precise)

Thanks for the patches! I'm assuming pitti will upload a fixed udisks
to quantal.

[Bug 994612] Re: gnome-screensaver-preferences missing

2012-07-12 Thread Hugh Buntu
I posted some details on this in a comment at
http://askubuntu.com/questions/59577/replace-xscreensaver-with-gnome-
screensaver-xubuntu before finding this.

The article details on how to deal with it in 11.10 and how the solution
doesn't work (because gnome-screensaver-preferences is missing) in
12.04.

It would seem that a fix for 12.04, which is an LTS after all, would be
easy and worth doing. I'd do it (port the gnome-screensaver-preferences
script) myself but I'd have to learn enough python first; I wish I had
time for that.

My comment gets you to where gnome-screensaver is at least running and locking
the screen off the user submenu (top right).
You'll just have a blank screen with the date and time in small chars at the
top; press any key to get the login dialogue.

There is a citation link to this page in the comment.

[Bug 227156] Re: really needed daemon

2012-07-12 Thread Daniel Manrique
I think the intent of this request is covered by the Ubuntu Friendly
community testing program. Due to this, and the fact that this bug is
related to hwtest, which has been obsolete for quite a while, I'll set
this as invalid.

Thanks!

Removing 12.04.1 milestone, no fix in current dev release and unlikely to be
fixed in time for the point release.
Once fixed in the dev release this should be considered for SRU.

[Bug 1023777] Re: software-center crashed with AttributeError in _on_show_exhibits(): 'FeaturedExhibit' object has no attribute 'click_url'

2012-07-12 Thread Hendrik Knackstedt
Hm … I got the crash again, doing the following: Running software
updater, opening USC, clicking on banner for "star apps", clicking on
"History", clicking on "Installed" -> Error Message says USC crashed

However, this time and last time, USC's window actually wasn't closed
but only the error message appears. USC works properly without any
restrictions and without restarting it.

I think first time it crashed I was also running software updater but
I'm not sure.

[Bug 1024051] [NEW] Computer goes into suspend when unplugged unless battery is 100% full

2012-07-12 Thread David Bensimon
Public bug reported:

Unplugging the power supply to the netbook (Dell Mini 9) causes computer
the computer to go to sleep. I get a warning that there is not enough
battery power and the machine will suspends. After resuming, I am able
to continue working for hours. The trigger is the removal of the power
supply. This does not happen when the battery is 100% full, only when it
is charging.

[Bug 1002991] Re: Should be built on powerpc as well

2012-07-12 Thread Stéphane Graber
Test build failed on a porter box so I'm not confident that I can just
change the Architecture lines and be done with it.

Maybe my test environment is broken and it'd actually succeed on the
buildds, but I don't really have the time to upload to the archive just
for testing.

Did you test build the precise and quantal versions of libguestfs on
powerpc? if it worked for you, I'll upload and see if the buildds
succeed.

[Bug 1024042] [NEW] top bar still visible when screen is locked

2012-07-12 Thread jtlb
Public bug reported:

When screen is locked, the top bar is still visible. I'm pretty sure it wasn't
before.
This behavior occurs in Unity 3D. I did not notice it in the 2D version.

In my opinion, this is a bit annoying because the title of the last used
application is still visible and this may be sensitive. All the
indicators are also displayed but hopefully not clicable.

Not sure whether it's a 'security vulnerability' though

[Bug 1021517] Re: Xorg-server crashes reproducible with GIMP usage

2012-07-12 Thread cement_head
Hello,

I can confirm same bug nVIDIA proprietary drivers, think it was caused
by last xorg common and xorg server updates. However, upgrading to GIMP
2.8 (http://www.noobslab.com/2012/04/install-gimp-28-on-
ubuntu-1204-precise.html) eliminates problem.
