[Bug 1021429] Re: lxc-list should show frozen containers

2012-07-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package lxc - 0.7.5-3ubuntu60

---
lxc (0.7.5-3ubuntu60) precise-proposed; urgency=low

  * Update lxc-ubuntu template to use dpkg --add-architecture in containers
running dpkg = 1.16.2. (LP: #1017862)
  * Patch lxc-clone to stop messing with dhclient.conf when it contains a
placeholder (hostname or gethostname()). Fixes cases where dpkg will
prompt for modified config file on upgrade. (LP: #1021416)

[Bug 1017978] Re: [MIR] libfcgi, ceph (radosgw)

2012-07-20 Thread Didier Roche
Thanks for the precision :)

Ok, the packaging mostly seems good, I would though require that the .la files
are either removed or emptied to not create additional issues for people
installed the -dev package:
E: libfcgi-dev: non-empty-dependency_libs-in-la-file usr/lib/libfcgi++.la
E: libfcgi-dev: non-empty-dependency_libs-in-la-file usr/lib/libfcgi.la

In addition to that as I'm quite unconfortable with all cgi code, I
would like the security team do a quick code review.

Once both are done and OK, +1 from me (reassign me so that I promote the
package)

[Blueprint servercloud-q-ceph-object-integration] Ceph Object Integration with OpenStack

2012-07-20 Thread James Page
Blueprint changed by James Page:

Whiteboard changed:
+ Status - 20120720:
+
+ 0.48 release in Ubuntu quantal (merged from Debian)
+ MIR for in-tree dependencies approved - now using leveldb and libs3 from
archive.
+ MIR for libfcgi, radosgw - upstream now located, initial +1 from MIR team -
pending security team review.
+ MIR for google-perftools - still unallocated - will chase up.
+
  UDS Discussion:

Glance has supported ceph as a a backend storage for the past couple of
releases of openstack. We should make it as easy as possible for users to use
ceph with glance. This could be an alternative for users who do not want to
setup for a full swift setup. As discussed, the lack of Ceph intrgration with
Keystone does not make the swift replacement story compelling anywhere else
than as, eventually, a backend for glance.
Ceph has also worked on integrating RBD with nova-volume (now cinder) which
makes it a nice candidate to provide a scalable backend for it.

  Conclusion:
  - we should make sure Ceph is well integrated on Ubuntu
  - we should concentrate on the Ceph RBD integration with OpenStack Cinder

  TODO

Upstream CEPH changed significantly just now.
keystone+ceph RADOS: no good story here right now

  Arch issues are bugs.

  User Stories:

Tony decides that he would like to use an alternative to Swift to support
object storage in OpenStack. Ubuntu provides Ceph as a supported technology so
he is able to integrate this into his customized OpenStack deployment.
nijaba: ceph does not provide an integration with keystone atm, so this would
be lower prio than being able to use ceph as a backend for cinder (ex
nova-volume)

Frank has a requirement for storing objects in a resilient, distributed
fashion using a RESTful API. He selects Ceph on Ubuntu as a Canonical
supported offering to meet this requirement.

June wants to get started quickly with Ceph; using the latest charm from
the Juju charm store she is quickly and easily able to get a running
Ceph cluster on bare metal using MAAS.

- Nijaba (!) wants to have a scalable and open source back-end for Cinder
- (ex nova-volume) which Ceph RBD could provide nicely.
+ Nick wants to have a scalable and open source back-end for Cinder (ex
+ nova-volume) which Ceph RBD could provide nicely.

Phil would like to use Ceph RADOS as a backend for Glance.

  Assumptions:

  - Ceph will not replace swift as the default supported image store during
12.10
  - All testing will be functional and not performance/benchmark driven.
  - Ceph will remain the Ubuntu main

  Test Plans:

  - Test Ceph using XFS based storage.

  - Test Ceph using BTRFS based storage.

  - Test Charm

  Release Note:

Ubuntu 12.10 provides Ceph 0.4x, a distributed object storage
technology. Ceph has been tested with XFS and BTRFS during this
  development cycle.

[Bug 1017978] Re: [MIR] libfcgi, ceph (radosgw)

2012-07-20 Thread James Page
Recommendation from Didier included in latest upload to quantal:

libfcgi (2.4.0-8.1ubuntu2) quantal; urgency=low

  * d/rules,control: Remove dependency_libs from .la files inline with
recommendation from Ubuntu MIR review, specify debhelper (= 7.0.50~)
for override usage.
  * d/libfcgi0ldbl.manpages,rules: Don't install manpage using rules file.
  * d/libfcgi0ldbl.docs: Rationalized to prevent duplicate install of docs.
  * d/dirs: Dropped - not actually required and generates linitan warning.
  * d/control,rules: Drop use of quilt dh addon as this is provided by
debhelper.
  * d/control: Bumped Standards-Version to 3.9.3:
- d/copyright: Converted to machine readable format.

Also had a general tidy of the package as it was a little confused in
some areas (all changes submitted back to Debian).

[Bug 1026857] Re: Installing bind9 as per HACKING.txt leaves a running bind daemon on developer's machines

I don't think it interferes with anything to leave it running, and RSS

- I'd really prefer not to have one running.
+ MAAS brings up short-lived instances of named in its test suite,
+ and when running in development mode. It requires that bind9 is
+ installed, but does not use the system instance of named. It
+ would be useful to have an option to disable start of bind9. This
+ may also be useful if running an alternative nameserver on the
+ machine.

[Bug 1026857] Re: Installing bind9 as per HACKING.txt leaves a running bind daemon on developer's machines

2012-07-20 Thread Robie Basak
We could add a debconf option which writes another entry to
/etc/default/bind9 that the init script then checks. But this change
should probably best go to Debian in the first instance, since it would
equally apply to them.

How important for the MAAS team is it to get this functionality into
Ubuntu?

[Bug 1026478] Re: CIFS: Files not shown in mount.smbfs directory listings

2012-07-20 Thread Robie Basak
This looks like the same issue as bug 406466, but now confirmed as
present in Precise. In bug 406466, the kernel team asks that we file a
new bug if confirmed in a supported release, so this might as well be
that new bug.

Marking as Invalid in samba as this is a kernel cifs/smbfs module issue,
and adding a linux task.

[Bug 1027081] [NEW] fails if network is not yet configured at runlevel 2

2012-07-20 Thread Serge Hallyn
Public bug reported:

If network is not yet configured at runlevel 2, then the upstart job
thinks tftpd is running, but ps -ef shows it is not. This happens on my
laptop which normally comes up with wireless, and on which I set up
wired by hand later. It can trivially be reproduced with a container
where the lxc.network bits are replaced with

lxc.network.type = empty

If I then try

'sudo start tftpd-hpa'

this fails because it thinks it is running, but if I do

sudo restart tftpd-hpa

that works.

2012-07-20 Thread Scott Kitterman
The problem is, from the log:

adduser: Ya existe el usuario `clamav'. Saliendo.

That means there is a non-system usesr called clamav already. This is a
system configuration error and not a package bug. You can fix this by
doing deluser clamav in a terminal window. If you need help figuring
out how to remove the existing clamav user, you can ask for it in this
question.

[Bug 1027154] Re: need way to get system based on mac address

2012-07-20 Thread Raphaël Badin
I see two possible solutions to that problem:
a) we could add a lookup method to the API. The method would return a list
of system IDs from a set of criteria (mac adress would be one of the possible
criteria).
b) or, if we want to promote the mac address as an identifier, we could allow
the mac to be used as an identifier when calling the API: e.g. the definition
of the API url for a node handler would be:
r'nodes/(?Psystem_id_or_mac_address[\w\-]+)/$'
Given the fact that the system id is auto-generated (and UUID-based) and that
the mac address has a well defined format, there is no risk of conflict.

[Bug 1020273] Re: [MIR] yui3

2012-07-20 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Hi Michael,

1. The tests are to be run on a web-browser for which I don't think we
have an easy way to enable them.

2. We raised the concerns about the compatibility between releases to
the Debian Maintainer, in order to allow shipping various YUI versions
in the same release, that would have meant the change on installation
paths in order to allow this. However the Debian Maintainer expressed
that it was unlikely that this would happen and then rejected the idea
we proposed. Additionally, we didn't want to keep a big delta with
Debian by doing so.

[Bug 1015207] Re: juju setup fails, ERROR Invalid SSH key - 12.04 LTS

2012-07-20 Thread Erick Wipprecht
In my case, at least, there aren't any non-standard scripts in play --
this is a bone-stock, by the book install per the Ubuntu docs. The only
thing that really deviates at all is the cobbler maas.preseed password
addition. Failure behavior is not different with that in place; that was
added simply to allow me to log onto the servers in question for
troubleshooting purposes. So far I haven't been able to spot the cause
in the logs.

[Bug 1017972] Re: [MIR] google-perftools, libunwind

I think that is probably historic:

[Bug 1017972] Re: [MIR] google-perftools, libunwind

2012-07-20 Thread Michael Terry
Enabling the tests for perftools involves a few things:

1) Add DEB_MAKE_CHECK_TARGET := check to debian/rules
2) Backport a patch from upstream that fixes tests on i386:
http://code.google.com/p/gperftools/source/detail?r=150

But even then, you run into a deadlock:
http://code.google.com/p/gperftools/issues/detail?id=423

That's when I stopped working on it. This should probably be fixed
/worked-around and tests enabled.

[Bug 1020273] Re: [MIR] yui3

2012-07-20 Thread Michael Terry
Well, bummer on both counts. I guess when/if an incompatible split
happens and it causes problems, we can always version paths then.
Certainly for the moment, it's not worth a delta.

[Bug 943502] Re: whois doesn't properly query .hr/.sx/.pe TLDs and incorrect format for whois.arin.net

2012-07-20 Thread Chris J Arges
No change backport. This is slightly different than what backportpackage
came up with because I did need to change the version string from
5.0.17~oneiric1 to 5.0.17ubuntu1~oneiric1. This works now because the
maintainer added the simple patch to correctly detect version backport
strings.

** Description changed:

-

+ Please backport whois 5.0.17 (main) from quantal

  Description:
- Please backport whois 5.0.15ubuntu2 (main) from precise to oneiric.
+ Please backport whois 5.0.17 (main) from quantal to oneiric.

  Reason for the backport:

- Enter your reasoning here

TLDs, and fixes an incorrect format for whois.arin.net, plus some additional
updates.

  Testing:

Mark off items in the checklist [X] as you test them, but please leave the
checklist so that backporters can quickly evaluate the state of testing.

You can test-build the backport in your PPA with backportpackage:

The following reverse-dependencies need to be tested against the new version
of whois. For reverse-build-dependencies (-Indep), please test that the package
still builds against the new whois. For reverse-dependencies, please test that
the version of the package currently in the release still works with the new
whois installed. Reverse- Recommends, Suggests, and Enhances don't need to be
tested, and are listed for completeness-sake.

  [Impact]
Fixes issues using whois with .hr/.sx/.pe TLDs. In addition updates query
format for IPs when accessing ARIN.

  [Development Fix]
These issues were fixed in 5.0.14 of whois.

  [Stable Fix]
Since most of the fixes are covered in updating from 5.0.11 to 5.0.14, a
backport of these version provides all fixes.

  [Test Case]
  1) whois google.hr (works on precise, not on oneiric)
  2) whois registry.sx google.com.pe
  3) whois 74.125.113.102
if we use this command in precise we see that whois adds n + to the
query, while
in oneiric it doesn't add that.

  [Regression Potential]
Most of the changes are fairly minimal, although any changes to mkpasswd
should be investigated.

  Problem Description:
whois in oneiric can't query .hr/.sx/.pe TLDs. In addition the query format
for ARIN is different than in precise.

  Version affected:
  Current Oneiric Version: 5.0.11ubuntu2

[Bug 974584] Re: Semaphores cannot be created in lxc container

2012-07-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package sysvinit - 2.88dsf-13.10ubuntu12

---
sysvinit (2.88dsf-13.10ubuntu12) quantal; urgency=low

  * Cherry-pick fix from git to better handle chroot in postinst and change
the check to allow for the case where /dev isn't a mountpoint but /dev/shm
is one. (LP: #974584)
  * Add logic to detect broken environments (mostly LXC) where both /dev/shm
and /run/shm exist as directories (and aren't bind-mounts).
In such case, move the content of /dev/shm to /run/shm and make /dev/shm
a symlink to /run/shm.

[Bug 974584] Re: Semaphores cannot be created in lxc container

2012-07-20 Thread Stéphane Graber
** Description changed:

+ [rational]
+ Current initscripts doesn't deal properly with chroots, bind-mounting
/run/shm to /dev/shm instead of making the later a symlink to the former.
+ LXC has been carrying a workaround for that, sadly the workaround stopped
working late in the 12.04 cycle, meaning that an extra chunk of code had to be
added to properly fix any broken container before applying the upgrade as any
initscripts update would otherwise fail.
+
+ [test case]
+ Two things to test:
+ 1) lxc-create -t ubuntu -n p1
+ 2) Check that /dev/shm is a chroot to /run/shm in the container
+
+ 1) Get an existing container
+ 2) Update to -proposed
+ 3) Check that /dev/shm is now a symlink to /run/shm
+
+ [regression potential]
+ There's a known risk for applications using shm during the upgrade as the
entries will be moved to another file system. As long as all the processes
accessing the file keep running, it should be fine, but it won't if another one
is spawned as it will try reading it from the new location. A warning is
displayed recommending a reboot.
+
+ The rest of the code was already tested with all known scenario and
+ should be sufficiently guarded to only apply to the affected systems.
+
+
+

Thanks to hallyn, there's a workaround and a fix: adding this line to the
container's fstab will fix the problem:
  none dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0

He is updating the ubuntu template with this change.

Re: [Bug 946095] Re: font not visible in terminal plugin

2012-07-20 Thread Jan Groenewald
Hi

If you edit a file belonging to a package, it will be overwritten when
you receive an update for that package.

However creating a custom file here,

0 jan@tunis:~$grep -A1 gnome.gedit.plugins.terminal
/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/00_aims_settings.gschema.override
[org.gnome.gedit.plugins.terminal]
use-theme-colors=false

And running

sudo glib-compile-schemas /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas

will set this for your system (system-wide, for all users, as a default,
they can change it again).

Regards,
Jan
