[Bug 1042263] [NEW] Error with special characters in users passwords

2012-08-27 Thread Guillaume Hilt
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I'm running Ubuntu server 10.04 AMD64 with libapache2-mod-auth-mysql
(4.3.9-12ubuntu1).
Encryption is set to PHP_MD5.

Accounts passwors are md5 encoded using PHP and stored in a mysql database
(5.1.63-0ubuntu0.10.04.1).
The database is in UTF-8 (utf8_general_ci) so the mysql connection.

If, a password doesn't contain any special caracter (accentued one : eg. àéèùïë
...), auth will work fine.
It it contain one or more, it doesn't work (auth is refused).

I tested the auth using PHP and MD5, but it seems that auth-mysql
PHP_MD5 either doesn't like special chars and/or utf-8.

I can't upgrade this server to precise yet so I don't know if it works
under Ubuntu 12.04 but looking at the changelog, it shouldn't work as
well.

Is there a way to fix it ?

Regards,

Guillaume

[Bug 1042275] Re: dnsmasq updating resolvconf when it's not configured to do DNS

2012-08-27 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
The issue seems to be that with its current configuration (and including
bind-interfaces, and except-interface=lo), dnsmasq tries to update
DNS via resolvconf which adds a file under
/run/resolvconf/interface/lo.dnsmasq.

That file contains 'nameserver 127.0.0.1', which is absolutely incorrect
given the configuration, at least because of except-interface.

This nameserver configuration in resolvconf appears to take precedence
over the NetworkManager provided configuration (nameserver 127.0.1.1)
also running dnsmasq.

2012/8/23 lordamit lorda...@gmail.com

I manually installed the i386 package using dpkg after downloading it.
After that, sudo apt-get -f install worked.

But it is workaround, and definitely not the solution. Requesting that
this problem should be looked into further.

[Bug 1042367] Re: package smbclient 2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.3 failed to install/upgrade: lecture courte (short read) lors d'une copie de buffer pour backend dpkg-deb pendant « ./usr/bin/rpcclient »

2012-08-27 Thread Ubuntu Foundation's Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Oprofile 0.9.8[0] was recently released that has support for Intel Ivy

binutils[1]. As packaging is still under work using this upstream
version would allow Ubuntu packaging to not have to carry the Ivy

[Bug 997040] Re: usb printer backend hangs when usblp kernel module is loaded

2012-08-27 Thread terakin
Still in problem even after installing most recent update (cups,
1.5.3-0ubuntu4).
The symptom is also the same.
* Printer is OK after several periods of powering on.
* Then, printer suddenly hangs without warning. I only can know this by
notifying printer spool does not proceed.
* The only solution is to shut down the printer. My printer (Canon Pixma MP600)
cannot shut down by power button after encoutering this trouble, only by
plugging off the power code.
* Everything seems to be normal after re-enterying power switch of the printer.
Spooled printing is also OK.
* This situation does not change even if I assign module usblp as a
blacklisted one.

I cannot carve up the cause of this problem whether this is driver side
and backend side. However, I suppose that the problem stems from
backend, as same problem occurs after changing the driver. And it seems
that some extra signal (possibly from cups?) makes the printer hangs up.
However, it is also strange that the printer never time out after
plugging off USB cable, or lettting it for several minutes.

What is the best way to solve (or, at least collect related information)
this problem ...?

[Bug 871580] Re: wifi lock-up with brcmsmac and broadcom bcm4313

2012-08-27 Thread Ben
Testing with kernel 3.5.2 produces the same lock-ups. The issue appears
to be associated with signal strength, with the lock ups being much more
likely with a weak signal. The surest way to cause a lock up is to
connect and then walk with the laptop out of signal reach.

[Bug 1042076] [NEW] Unity sometimes stuck right after login on dualscreen

2012-08-27 Thread Christoph Keller
Public bug reported:

Hi,

there seems to be a really annoyin bug either in unity or compiz or
maybe even Xorg (at least i think one of those is to blame).

Sometimes (approximatly 1 out of 10 times) unity gets stuck right after
login on my dual screen setup. I've never seen that problem on 2 other
systems with only one display! Didn't see that problem on Xfce either.

I can still move around the mouse but i cant click anything. Switching
to the terminal and executing export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0; unity
--replace fixes it for a short time (about 10 secs). In case i'm fast
enought to logout in this time and log back in everything seems to work
most of the time.

Doesn't look like fglrx is to blame. Even had this problem using the
opensource driver.

Anybody else got this problem?

Let me know what you need to debug that. and i'll append it next time it
happens.

[Bug 1042075] [NEW] the longer epiphany works the more memory it consumes (a memory leak?)

2012-08-27 Thread Ivan Zakharyaschev
Public bug reported:

I'm concerned with how much memory is used in my Ubuntu 12.04 system on
Toshiba AC100 because there is little RAM.

Epiphany works quite fast on my system, but I have noticed that a lot of
memory was consumed after I left Gmail open in Epiphany over a night.

Perhaps, there is a memory leak?

So, I made an observation over Epiphany's memory consumption (with a
simple script that printed how much memory the processes consume every 5
minutes -- https://gitorious.org/ps-memstat/ps-
memstat/blobs/epiphany/ac100-second-longer/ps-memstat or
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~imz/epiphany-browser/ps-memstat-
data/view/head:/ps-memstat -- it runs ps):

after Epiphany launched, I opened Gmail in it (the main page, with the
index of my messages) and didn't touch it for about a day.

The data of my observations are saved in https://gitorious.org/ps-
memstat/ps-memstat/blobs/epiphany/ac100-second-longer/ps-memstat-
epiphany.out . (They also should be visible in
https://code.launchpad.net/~imz/epiphany-browser/ps-memstat-data , but,
unfortunately, the import of this non-HEAD branch into Launchpad didn't
work correctly -- https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/1000852 ).

In the beginning, the state was like this (it's the output of ps --sort
-vsize -o comm,vsize,size,rss):

Mon Jul 30 16:19:50 VLAT 2012
COMMANDVSZ SIZE RSS
epiphany-browse 21476 224 568
bash 6248 2496 3748
ps-memstat3680 244 1092
ps1872 632 668
head 1388 296 416
Mon Jul 30 16:24:50 VLAT 2012
COMMANDVSZ SIZE RSS
epiphany-browse 323568 243108 51116
bash 6248 249680
ps-memstat3680 244 404
tail 2980 300 156
ps1872 632 668
head 1388 296 416

In the end:

Wed Aug 1 14:00:27 VLAT 2012
COMMANDVSZ SIZE RSS
epiphany-browse 381232 300772 55976
bash 6248 2496 0
ps-memstat3728 292 380
tail 2980 30096
ps1872 632 672
head 1388 296 416

So, the consumed virtual memory increased by 60Mb or so.

More info: disk cache is disabled in my Epiphany (not to cause load on
my flash harddrive). I'd also like to give up swap, but that's not
realistic yet to run programs without swap, because they tend to consume
more and more memory (like in the reported case of Epiphany).

I also have a feeling that the Midori process similarly grows constantly
in size if it is left with Gmail opened for a while (a night).

Same issue in 12.04, new install.

For me, e-addressbook-factory was not running after I quit evolution.

I re-started evolution, killed e-addressbook-factory while evolution was
running and then it appeared after I exited evolution.

At the moment, all is working as expected.

[Bug 1042076] Re: Unity sometimes stuck right after login on dualscreen

2012-08-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Christoph,

If unity (compiz) is actually stuck then a stack trace will help us to
confirm and find out why.

Please:
1. Download the attached script to your home directory.
2. Keep logging out/in until you reproduce the bug again.
3. Switch to a virtual terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F1) and log in.
4. Run:
sh ./dstack compiz compizstuck.txt
5. Repeat #4 a few times.
6. Run:
sudo restart lightdm
7. Log in normally and attach the file compizstuck.txt to this bug.

This time it was again in Firefox (when viewing a history of commits at

order to select a piece of text; because of some peculiarities of the
markup at Gitorious, instead of selecting the text, the action was
moving around the rectangular area with text.)

[Bug 489830] Re: Settings of gpointing-device-settings are non-persistent

2012-08-27 Thread Douglas Moyes
This is still an issue with 12.04.1. I'm suprised it's been over 3 years
now and there's no fix. I've never needed this feature before till I
needed to configure a system to use a trackball instead of a mouse to
enable the middle mouse button emmulation.

The new Ubuntu system config menu doesn't even give an option to
configure a pointing device. Almost all systems had an option to swap
left/right mouse buttons--even MS-DOS mouse drivers, Unbuntu has become
one of the few OS's to NOT have this ability.

Most new people aren't familair with creating and editing an xorg config
file, nor using xinput to work around these issues. They'd just see a
broken OS, so this is a pretty important bug IMO.

[Bug 1041865] Re: soffice.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in uno_type_sequence_construct()

2012-08-27 Thread dino99
@ Christopher

from bug #1041354 , comment from Ryan Lortie:

The new libreoffice upload is causing this. It updates its menubar once
per second, which it does by completely removing and readding all menu
items and actions. The resulting thrash is what causes the panel to use
100%.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1041354/comments/7

and again:
- lo-menubar is not installed
- libreoffice-gtk is to blame (but removing it is not a usable solution, as
icons becomes inactive)

[Bug 954021] Re: composited desktop environments wont autoload from gdm/lightdm when using i915

2012-08-27 Thread Roger Olivé Muñiz
I tried the solution in the post linked by htrex, and it works perfectly
for me! (64 bit Ubuntu) :D

It really is only a matter of adding some text at the end of the 4th
line in the file /etc/X11/Xsession.d/10fglrx

The text is:

32 bit systems -- :/usr/lib32/dri/
64 bit systems -- :/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/

The post explains it very well. It seems that fglrx messes up the paths
to certain driver files required by the Intel card.

I hope someone with the necessary skills will update the installer
scripts. Honestly, I don't think newbies would try the solution
explained by Niccola, even if it's stupidly easy. The out-of-the-box
experience thing, you know... :P

[Bug 948422] Re: `ipython notebook` fails to start; returns [TerminalIPythonApp] File not found: u'notebook'

2012-08-27 Thread Tom Close
I had this problem, but found out it was because I had the alias

alias ipython='ipython --colors Linux'

in my ~/.bash_aliases file. As a side note, this same alias also caught
me out last time when the colors option changed from '-colors' to '--
colors', and it took me ages to find out what the problem was. So the
lesson is to be careful when you alias commands that not to forget about
them later (or stop being lazy and type the extra characters in the
first place)!

[Bug 1042040] Re: Ubuntu doesn't trust debian

2012-08-27 Thread Philipp Kern
AFAIK that's not true for ca-certificates, it does include the Debian
CA. The problem is Firefox, which does not use the database found in ca-
certificates at all. And Ubuntu is not allowed thanks to trademark rules
to change the certificate database of NSS (c.f. iceweasel vs. firefox in
Debian).

[Bug 699802] Re: error:: no video mode activated

2012-08-27 Thread DiagonalArg
Same problem installing 12.04 as RAID - LUKS - LVM on a Tyan S2865
with an nVidea GF-7900GT video card.

I did as suggested in #28 and the disk decryption/password screen/box
appeared. I was able to mount disks and log in. I installed the
proprietary drivers, and on next boot I went right to the password
screen, but there was no password box, just a text input line, and the
font was large with the text overwriting itself. I then did as in #24,
copying the fonts to /boot/grub, but on next boot my LCD kept saying
Out of Range and I couldn't find any way to log in. (^Alt-Fn didn't
work, ^Alt-Del forced reboot.)

[Bug 246310] Re: Broken Pipe Error with Xerox Printer

Interestingly, I could not reproduce the error with openSUSE 11.3:
Printing a specific file (evince, 2 pages per sheet, duplex short side)

[Bug 1041929] Re: Catfish cannot run on the live CD

2012-08-27 Thread Stefano Rivera
Ah, that's fairly straightforward. To save space, we exclude .pyc files
from the live CD's filesystem. They are re-created on install.

The problem is in /usr/bin/catfish. It should probably be modified to
*only* look in /usr/share/catfish

#!/usr/bin/env bash

APPNAME=catfish

if [ -e $APPNAME.pyc ]
then python $APPNAME.pyc $@
else
if [ -e $APPNAME.py ]
then python $APPNAME.py $@
else
cd /usr/share/$APPNAME
python $APPNAME.pyc $@
