[Bug 1042263] [NEW] Error with special characters in users passwords
Public bug reported: Hello, I'm running Ubuntu server 10.04 AMD64 with libapache2-mod-auth-mysql (4.3.9-12ubuntu1). Encryption is set to PHP_MD5. Accounts passwors are md5 encoded using PHP and stored in a mysql database (5.1.63-0ubuntu0.10.04.1). The database is in UTF-8 (utf8_general_ci) so the mysql connection. If, a password doesn't contain any special caracter (accentued one : eg. àéèùïë ...), auth will work fine. It it contain one or more, it doesn't work (auth is refused). I tested the auth using PHP and MD5, but it seems that auth-mysql PHP_MD5 either doesn't like special chars and/or utf-8. I can't upgrade this server to precise yet so I don't know if it works under Ubuntu 12.04 but looking at the changelog, it shouldn't work as well. Is there a way to fix it ? [Bug 1042275] Re: dnsmasq updating resolvconf when it's not configured to do DNS
The issue seems to be that with its current configuration (and including bind-interfaces, and except-interface=lo), dnsmasq tries to update DNS via resolvconf which adds a file under /run/resolvconf/interface/lo.dnsmasq. That file contains 'nameserver 127.0.0.1', which is absolutely incorrect given the configuration, at least because of except-interface. This nameserver configuration in resolvconf appears to take precedence over the NetworkManager provided configuration (nameserver 127.0.1.1) also running dnsmasq. ** Changed in: dnsmasq (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed ** Changed in: dnsmasq (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: dnsmasq (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre (mathieu-tl) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dnsmasq in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1042275 Title: dnsmasq updating resolvconf when it's not configured to do DNS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/1042275/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you might take include checking cable connections and using software tools to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to New. Thanks and good luck! [This is an automated message. [Bug 997040] Re: usb printer backend hangs when usblp kernel module is loaded
Still in problem even after installing most recent update (cups, 1.5.3-0ubuntu4). The symptom is also the same. * Printer is OK after several periods of powering on. * Then, printer suddenly hangs without warning. I only can know this by notifying printer spool does not proceed. * The only solution is to shut down the printer. My printer (Canon Pixma MP600) cannot shut down by power button after encoutering this trouble, only by plugging off the power code. * Everything seems to be normal after re-enterying power switch of the printer. Spooled printing is also OK. * This situation does not change even if I assign module usblp as a blacklisted one. I cannot carve up the cause of this problem whether this is driver side and backend side. However, I suppose that the problem stems from backend, as same problem occurs after changing the driver. And it seems that some extra signal (possibly from cups?) makes the printer hangs up. However, it is also strange that the printer never time out after plugging off USB cable, or lettting it for several minutes. What is the best way to solve (or, at least collect related information) this problem ...? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/997040 Title: usb printer backend hangs when usblp kernel module is loaded To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/997040/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1042076] [NEW] Unity sometimes stuck right after login on dualscreen
Public bug reported: Hi, there seems to be a really annoyin bug either in unity or compiz or maybe even Xorg (at least i think one of those is to blame). Sometimes (approximatly 1 out of 10 times) unity gets stuck right after login on my dual screen setup. I've never seen that problem on 2 other systems with only one display! Didn't see that problem on Xfce either. I can still move around the mouse but i cant click anything. Switching to the terminal and executing export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0; unity --replace fixes it for a short time (about 10 secs). In case i'm fast enought to logout in this time and log back in everything seems to work most of the time. Doesn't look like fglrx is to blame. Even had this problem using the opensource driver. Anybody else got this problem? Let me know what you need to debug that. and i'll append it next time it happens. i'm running 12.04.1 ... no ppa's the packages i got installed: libunity-core-5.0-5 5.14.0-0ubuntu1 libunity-misc4 4.0.4-0ubuntu2 libunity9 5.12.0-0ubuntu1.1 unity 5.14.0-0ubuntu1 unity-common 5.14.0-0ubuntu1 unity-services 5.14.0-0ubuntu1 compiz 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1.4 compiz-core 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1.4 compiz-gnome 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1.4 compiz-plugins-default 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1.4 compiz-plugins-main-default 1:0.9.7.0~bzr19-0ubuntu10 compizconfig-backend-gconf 0.9.5.92-0ubuntu5 libcompizconfig0 0.9.7.0~bzr428-0ubuntu6 xorg 1:7.6+12ubuntu1 some xrandr information on my display setup Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 3600 x 1080, maximum 3600 x 1920 DFP1 connected 1680x1050+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 474mm x 296mm 1680x1050 59.9*+ ... [Bug 1042075] [NEW] the longer epiphany works the more memory it consumes (a memory leak?)
Public bug reported: I'm concerned with how much memory is used in my Ubuntu 12.04 system on Toshiba AC100 because there is little RAM. Epiphany works quite fast on my system, but I have noticed that a lot of memory was consumed after I left Gmail open in Epiphany over a night. Perhaps, there is a memory leak? So, I made an observation over Epiphany's memory consumption (with a simple script that printed how much memory the processes consume every 5 minutes -- https://gitorious.org/ps-memstat/ps- memstat/blobs/epiphany/ac100-second-longer/ps-memstat or http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~imz/epiphany-browser/ps-memstat- data/view/head:/ps-memstat -- it runs ps): after Epiphany launched, I opened Gmail in it (the main page, with the index of my messages) and didn't touch it for about a day. The data of my observations are saved in https://gitorious.org/ps- memstat/ps-memstat/blobs/epiphany/ac100-second-longer/ps-memstat- epiphany.out . (They also should be visible in https://code.launchpad.net/~imz/epiphany-browser/ps-memstat-data , but, unfortunately, the import of this non-HEAD branch into Launchpad didn't work correctly -- https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/1000852 ). In the beginning, the state was like this (it's the output of ps --sort -vsize -o comm, vsize, size, rss): Mon Jul 30 16:19:50 VLAT 2012 COMMANDVSZ SIZE RSS epiphany-browse 21476 224 568 bash 6248 2496 3748 ps-memstat3680 244 1092 ps1872 632 668 head 1388 296 416 Mon Jul 30 16:24:50 VLAT 2012 COMMANDVSZ SIZE RSS epiphany-browse 323568 243108 51116 bash 6248 249680 ps-memstat3680 244 404 tail 2980 300 156 ps1872 632 668 head 1388 296 416 In the end: Wed Aug 1 14:00:27 VLAT 2012 COMMANDVSZ SIZE RSS epiphany-browse 381232 300772 55976 bash 6248 2496 0 ps-memstat3728 292 380 tail 2980 30096 ps1872 632 672 head 1388 296 416 So, the consumed virtual memory increased by 60Mb or so. More info: disk cache is disabled in my Epiphany (not to cause load on my flash harddrive). I'd also like to give up swap, but that's not realistic yet to run programs without swap, because they tend to consume more and more memory (like in the reported case of Epiphany). I also have a feeling that the Midori process similarly grows constantly in size if it is left with Gmail opened for a while (a night). [Bug 489830] Re: Settings of gpointing-device-settings are non-persistent
This is still an issue with 12.04.1. I'm suprised it's been over 3 years now and there's no fix. I've never needed this feature before till I needed to configure a system to use a trackball instead of a mouse to enable the middle mouse button emmulation. The new Ubuntu system config menu doesn't even give an option to configure a pointing device. Almost all systems had an option to swap left/right mouse buttons--even MS-DOS mouse drivers, Unbuntu has become one of the few OS's to NOT have this ability. Most new people aren't familair with creating and editing an xorg config file, nor using xinput to work around these issues. They'd just see a broken OS, so this is a pretty important bug IMO. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/489830 Title: Settings of gpointing-device-settings are non-persistent To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gpointing-device-settings/+bug/489830/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 954021] Re: composited desktop environments wont autoload from gdm/lightdm when using i915
I tried the solution in the post linked by htrex, and it works perfectly for me! It seems that fglrx messes up the paths to certain driver files required by the Intel card. I hope someone with the necessary skills will update the installer scripts. [Bug 948422] Re: `ipython notebook` fails to start; returns [TerminalIPythonApp] File not found: u'notebook'
I had this problem, but found out it was because I had the alias alias ipython='ipython --colors Linux' in my ~/.bash_aliases file. [Bug 1041929] Re: Catfish cannot run on the live CD
Ah, that's fairly straightforward. To save space, we exclude .pyc files from the live CD's filesystem. They are re-created on install. The problem is in /usr/bin/catfish. It should probably be modified to *only* look in /usr/share/catfish #!/usr/bin/env bash APPNAME=catfish if [ -e $APPNAME.pyc ] then python $APPNAME.pyc $@ else if [ -e $APPNAME.py ] then python $APPNAME.py $@ else cd /usr/share/$APPNAME python $APPNAME.pyc $@ fi fi ** Summary changed: - Catfish file search will not open + Catfish cannot run on the live CD -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1041929 Title: Catfish cannot run on the live CD To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/catfish/+bug/1041929/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: I've got a netbook with a very small touchpad. Because of that, I like to scroll down with the arrow keys. However, this isn't possible in the Software Center.
