[Bug 985489] Re: nova-compute stops processing compute.$HOSTNAME occasionally
@Rafi, Thanks for the suggestion. What you describe used to happen to me when we were using Oneiric's libvirtd (LP#903212). Since upgrading to Precise I haven't experienced the exact problem you're having. My issue is that libvirtd seems to temporarily stop responding, enough to block nova-compute, but it then responds to external commands later when I probe it. Looking through my monitoring logs, I can see that libvirtd occasionally stops responding, but not for long enough to generate an alert. I speculate that this is a timing issue, where libvirtd has stopped responding for a very limited period and during that moment nova-compute attempts to poll libvirtd? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to nova in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/985489 Title: nova-compute stops processing compute.$HOSTNAME occasionally To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/985489/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1046340] [NEW] ntp package missing logcheck exceptions file /etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/ntp
Public bug reported: Hello, in Lucid, Package: ntp (1:4.2.4p8+dfsg-1ubuntu2) has the file /etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/ntp included. This is used to configure logcheck to ignore ntp messages in syslog that are not error conditions. However: In Natty, this file is not present in the ntp package In Oneric, this file is not present in the ntp package In Precise, this file is not present in the ntp package When logcheck is installed, all ntp syslog messages are raised as alerts by logcheck because the ntp configuration file is not present. Thanks for submitting this bug. Indeed if lxc.rootfs is a symbolic link, it is assumed to be a lvm rootfs. [Bug 1046397] [NEW] The DHCP config file does not get written.
Public bug reported: When masternodegroup.set_up_dhcp() is called, the script /usr/sbin/maas- provision is used to write the DHCP configuration. That script is run using sudo in order to be able to write the config into /etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf. The sudo rule to allow that sudo command to be run is missing from debian/extras/99-maas-sudoers: The complete command is: sudo maas- provision atomic-write --filename /etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf --mode 744 so I suggest adding something like: maas ALL= NOPASSWD: /usr/sbin/maas- provision in debian/extras/99-maas-sudoers. [Bug 802400] Re: mysql help sends unchecked contents to mysqld
First of all, this doesn't seem to be any sort of security vulnerability (not related to any stack overflow or any stack smashing etc.).It is something to do with parsing. Also, not related to glob_buffer or it being empty as suggested above. (even in normal case it is like that). The problem is in com_server_help: static int com_server_help(String *buffer __attribute__((unused)), char *line __attribute__((unused)), char *help_arg) { MYSQL_ROW cur; const char *server_cmd= buffer-ptr(); char cmd_buf[100 + 1]; MYSQL_RES *result; int error; if (help_arg[0] != '\'') { char *end_arg= strend(help_arg); if(--end_arg) { while (my_isspace(charset_info,*end_arg)) end_arg--; *++end_arg= '\0'; } (void) strxnmov(cmd_buf, sizeof(cmd_buf), help ', help_arg, ', NullS); server_cmd= cmd_buf; } if (!status.batch) { old_buffer= *buffer; old_buffer.copy(); } == As you can see it explicitly checks for single quote and does some string filtering to finally append help ' and ' to it if does not have them already. The problem lies here -- const char *server_cmd= buffer-ptr() If the string already starts with single quote, server_cmd ends up with value of glob_buffer like this: print server_cmd $10 = 0x98d660 Your MySQL connection id is 11\nServer version: 5.5.27-rel28.0-debug-log Built by raghavendra at Tue Aug 21 00:41:10 IST 2012\n and rest follows. Interesting to observe that the argument has been marked __attribute__((unused)) but is still used. [Bug 974450] Re: irqbalance classifies network interfaces with custom/renamed interfaces as class other
irqbalance 0.56 was released in June 2010, and 1.0.3, which Debian Wheezy has, was released in December of last year. I've looked at the 1.0.3 package in Debian and Quantal's 0.56, and the only changes necessary are updating debian/control (XSBC-Original-Maintainer, Maintainer, and Standards-Version fields). All other changes from Ubuntu's 0.56 have been incorporated by Debian's package. I've even successfully built and used Debian's irqbalance 1.0.3 on Precise without problems. Ubuntu 12.x - It's broken. Trying to fix with: adding to /etc/network/interfaces dns-nameservers 4.2.2.2 4.2.2.3 dns-search xyz.com FAIL. Because you have iface eth0 inet dhcp that option isn't read Try and configure with Network Manager from commandline because your running a server. NOPE, network manager doesn't run from CLI commandline only GUI Can't manually specify the DNS server in /etc/resolv.conf because it's always getting overwritten. What's the best option here? I think this might be a bug. Only option I haven't tried is using the head file from this description: Resolvconf has a /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/ directory that can contain “base”, “head”, “original” and “tail” files. All in resolv.conf format. base: Used when no other data can be found head: Used for the header of resolv.conf, can be used to ensure a DNS server is always the first one in the list original: Just a backup of your resolv.conf at the time of resolvconf installation tail: Any entry in tail is appended at the end of the resulting resolv.conf. In some cases, upgrading from a previous Ubuntu release, will make tail a symlink to original (when we think you manually modified resolv.conf in the past) ** Affects: bind9 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bot-comment -- DHCP server handing out DNS server addresses but DHCP client does not write these to resolv.conf https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1045616 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to bind9 in Ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1045616] Re: DHCP server handing out DNS server addresses but DHCP client does not write these to resolv.conf
but having BIND server installed shouldn't be affecting the local DNS lookups, it's a stand-alone bind server... Yep, that sounds like my original guess: probably a local DNS server that's installed and misconfigured such that it's talking to resolvconf when it shouldn't be. So this sounds like bug #996088, except you say that this is a fresh install of 12.04 rather than an upgrade. Perhaps virtualmin is misconfiguring bind9? [Bug 1031065] Re: cloud-init-nonet runs 'start networking' explicitly
So, after much discussion [1] we came to the realization of why 'start networking' was here. The issue was that the normal case for cloud-images (and ubuntu as a whole) is that / is mounted ro when /sbin/init starts. When this is the case, /run will be mounted before /. However, if / is mounted rw then mountall first scans for all filesystems that don't require further processing and reports them mounted, so mounted MOUNTPOINT=/ occurs before virtual-filesystems. if mounted MOUNTPOINT=/ occurs before virtual-filesystems, then udev will not start because it depends on virtual-filesystems. That means means networking wont get started either, as ifup occurs via udev events for discovered network adapters. As a result, we hang in cloud-init- nonet waiting for networking devices to come up that never will. Note, slangasek pointed out that while /run is guaranteed to be mounted before / (except withotu 'ro'), virtual-filesystems is *not* guaranteed. So, even with 'ro' root, a race condition could occur here. It would also, then imply that cloud-init cannot actually use some filesystems in cloud-init-local (such has /proc or /sys). slangasek suggested that a fix for bug 643289 would improve the situation here as the virtual-filesystems could all move forward even while the 'mounted MOUNTPOINT=/' were processing (currently it blocks *everything*). That would mean we wouldn't deadlock here. -- [1] http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2012/09/05/%23ubuntu-devel.html#t18:16 ** Description changed: In development of 'overlayroot' package, I was mounting / as rw in the initramfs. This was causing a different order of execution of mounts, and as a result a different order of networking resolvconf and networking bringup. It exposed a bug in resolvconf, which was being called on boot in this order: Mon Jul 30 19:08:58 UTC 2012 /sbin/resolvconf -a lo.inet Mon Jul 30 19:08:59 UTC 2012 /sbin/dhclient-script Mon Jul 30 19:08:59 UTC 2012 /sbin/resolvconf -a eth0.dhclient Mon Jul 30 19:08:59 UTC 2012 /sbin/resolvconf -a eth0.inet Mon Jul 30 19:08:59 UTC 2012 /sbin/resolvconf --enable-updates Mon Jul 30 19:08:59 UTC 2012 /etc/resolvconf/update.d/libc -u The normal order is for resolvconf --enable-updates to be called (from /etc/init/resolvconf.conf) before anything else. As a result, I was seeing errors like: resolvconf: Error: /run/resolvconf/interface either does not exist or is not a directory This may be exposing a more grave issue, in that I believe the reason for dhclient coming up before resolvconf.conf started was that it was being run as a result of /etc/init/network-interface.conf. I don't immediately see how that is guarnateed to have /run ounted at all. [Bug 1045616] Re: DHCP server handing out DNS server addresses but DHCP client does not write these to resolv.conf
I think I made a mistakeI'm not sure this is a bind, or virtualmin problem as the problem was occurring pre BIND or virtualmin install. Just to re-summarize the steps I originally took: - Loaded Ubuntu 12.04 - Tried to install virtualmin - couldn't resolve dns - found a workaround by editing the /resolvconf.d/head file - got virtualmin downloaded and installed I opened this ticket because step three I should have had DNS resolution and I didn'tthis problem was there on a virgin base install of Ubuntu 12 with no bind or virtualmin on the system and it was failing resolving DNS because it was pulling and using the DNS servers from the DHCP server. [Bug 977964] Re: Please transition libart-lgpl to multi-arch
Hello Tom, or anyone else affected, Accepted libart-lgpl into precise-proposed. The package will build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libart- lgpl/2.3.21-1ubuntu0.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision. [Bug 1045616] Re: DHCP server handing out DNS server but DHCP client not loading DNS settings to client
Can't manually specify the DNS server in /etc/resolv.conf because it's always getting overwritten. What value is it being overwritten with? Resolvconf certainly supports reading in DNS settings from the DHCP server; so if you're not getting those, there must be some other source of DNS information taking precedence - probably a local DNS server that's installed and misconfigured such that it's talking to resolvconf when it shouldn't be. ** Changed in: resolvconf (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1045616 Title: DHCP server handing out DNS server but DHCP client not loading DNS settings to client To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/resolvconf/+bug/1045616/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 752773] Re: dash should sort results (apps, files, ...) by relevance
There does not seem to be lots of interest in this, but I would also find it useful to have frequency of use influence the scoring/sorting of items. I run into issues fairly often with applications where I wind up launching the wrong one because some obscure application is the first result. For example if I type update to try to run Software Updater, I instead get an application that has Update in the title but that I have never intentionally run. Or I often want to type calc to get Calculator, but instead wind up with LibreOffice's calc which I also rarely use and don't mind having to click or use more keypresses for the exceptional cases. Another way to approach it could be to remember that, for me, calc means Calculator rather than LibreOffice Calc. Collect the stats to know that 9 times out of 10 when typing calc I end up launching Calculator, and give me that. That way rather quickly after using the dash users have created their own shortcuts and it does what they want. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/752773 Title: dash should sort results (apps, files, ...) by relevance To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/752773/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1037765] Re: Fatal erl crash no opening log file couch.log
So if you run `couchdb` as a regular user, the process wont have access to write to the appropriate log and run files. Although starting a per- user couchdb is a bit of a pain, the problem you're reporting isn't a bug. If you're trying to start the system-wide couchdb daemon, do this: $ sudo /etc/init.d/couchdb start If you're trying to start a per-user couchdb, you need reset the config change with -n, and then add in one or more config files, like this: couchdb -n -a /etc/couchdb/default.ini -a your-config.ini You might look at how UserCouch does this: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~novacut/usercouch/trunk/view/head:/usercouch/__init__.py#L231 By default `couchdb` will use the /etc/couchdb/local.ini file as the last file in the config chain, and that's what configures the logging and pid file in /var -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1037765 Title: Fatal erl crash no opening log file couch.log To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/couchdb/+bug/1037765/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 731193] Re: Incomplete search results
Searching for libgtk2.0-dev does not work with seemingly near matches. I tried: libgtk 2 dev libgtk 2 lib gtk dev gtk dev 2 and many similar combinations. All technical items are showing, yet this library did not show up until I searched for its exact name (which I found on google). The test mentioned in #1 here is not a very thorough case, and does not apply to the situation I am reporting here. Each word in the search term needs to be applied in a separate search pass, with all results aggregated together. In each search pass, the search word needs to be matched against the entire package name. Matches should be accepted at the start or end of the package name, and also anywhere in the middle. Given these changes, any of my search attempts would have returned libgtk2.0-dev. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/731193 Title: Incomplete search results To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-center/+bug/731193/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 774052] Re: Pdftk fails on PDF annotations added from Evince
Thanks, Thomas, for your report. Unfortunately, pdftk with included debug symbols seems to not give better output in this case. But the open_reader bug should have been already fixed in pdftk 1.44-5 (Natty has 1.44-1). I made a backport from the current 1.44-6 version for Natty. You can find it in my ppa: https://launchpad.net/~johfel/+archive/pdftk It would be helpful, if you could test it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/774052 Title: Pdftk fails on PDF annotations added from Evince To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pdftk/+bug/774052/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 654047] Re: Stop button restarts playback instead of stopping
same with 1.0.5-1 in Lubuntu 12.04. Just booted up 12.10 daily in VirtualBox (1.0.6-1) and stop does indeed stop. However, it immediately plays about the first second of the track. it starts from this accelerated position when hitting play again. admittedly this is a relatively short 1 minute long song, but that shouldn't matter. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/654047 Title: Stop button restarts playback instead of stopping To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-mplayer/+bug/654047/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1046164] Re: Abecedario not correct for Esperanto characters
The original author Juan José Marcos say me that I send the changes directly to debian team: Estimado Guillermo.
