[Bug 1027061] Re: Postfix upgrade to 2.9.3-2~12.04.1 changes configuration files

2012-10-16 Thread Robie Basak
Marking Incomplete, since others have tried failed to reproduce, and it
seems likely that this is a local configuration issue rather than a bug
in Postfix.

If you can provide exact steps to reproduce without using puppet, then
please do so and re-open.

[Bug 1052707] Re: ssh client ignores PasswordAuthentication no

2012-10-16 Thread Robie Basak
Although I'm not sure, I think PasswordAuthentication is a specific ssh
protocol mode, and a separate mode is KbdInteractiveAuthentication which
technically isn't PasswordAuthentication but could still give you a
password prompt depending on what the server does. Perhaps your FreeBSD
server is doing this?

Please could you try ssh -o PasswordAuthentication=no -o
KbdInteractiveAuthentication=no, and if that still doesn't work then
please add -vvv, obscure any sensitive information and then paste the
result?

[Bug 1027061] Re: Postfix upgrade to 2.9.3-2~12.04.1 changes configuration files

2012-10-16 Thread Mephisto
Even though I have the suspicion it is caused by not doing debconf (as puppet
does not ask questions, but just installs with default values), I too can't
reproduce it on a test-VM with the exact same debconf values as one of our
servers.
I have no idea what puppet does to cause this behavior and I'm also sure the
problem is there, as I've seen it happen again later, but I know that something
that can't be reproduced can't be fixed.
You can close this ticket if you want. If I find a way to reproduce it in the
future, I will reopen it.

[Bug 1060900] Re: HTTP proxy config being created in /etc/apt/apt.conf on nodes

2012-10-16 Thread Robie Basak
I think this is being done automatically by d-i as a result of the proxy
being preseeded. In other words, if you automatically install an Ubuntu
system without MAAS and preseed a proxy, you'll get the same result.

What is the reason that MAAS should do something different from d-i
here? Or is this a request to change d-i's behaviour?

Seems to be fixed in quantal - and it only took five years:

openldap (2.4.28-1.1ubuntu5) quantal; urgency=low

  * debian/rules: Add smbk5pwd build.
  * debian/control: Add slapd-smbk5pwd binary package.
  * debian/patches/heimdal-fix: adapt parameters of
hdb_generate_key_set_password() to heimdal 1.6~git20120311

[Bug 1067333] [NEW] If maas-region-controller dies during startup, it leaves the lock file

2012-10-16 Thread John A Meinel
Public bug reported:

We have an atomically created lockfile (create a temp file, 'ln tempfile

lock file can be left held, blocking other processes from accessing it.

The workaround is to manually delete the file, and then things can start

[Bug 1067332] [NEW] 'dkpg-reconfigure' conflates user existing for vhost existing

2012-10-16 Thread John A Meinel
Public bug reported:

If something happens and you delete the rabbitmq user 'maas_workers' or
the vhost '/mass_workers' and then run 'dpkg-reconfigure' to fix things.

However, the test in postinst is 'if user exists: change_user_password()
else: create user, create vhost, set permissions on vhost.

Which means that if you delete the user, then it tries to create a vhost
that may already exist. Or if you delete the vhost, then it doesn't
recreate it if the user exists.

So, I could have (and have tested) that just adding:

With postfix installed, I'm getting the following error in my boot.log
process 268: arguments to dbus_server_disconnect() were incorrect, assertion
old_refcount 0 failed in file ../../dbus/dbus-server.c line 786
process 268: arguments to dbus_server_unref() were incorrect, assertion
old_refcount 0 failed in file ../../dbus/dbus-server.c line 749

Complete boot.log can be seen at:
http://paste.ubuntu.com/1275728

If I remove postfix, the error goes away. I've tried uninstalling
several other packages that actually depend on libdbus, but so far as
long as postfix is installed, it still gets the error.

[Bug 1067301] Re: ssh-add: Error reading response length from authentication socket.

2012-10-16 Thread Robie Basak
You also need to set SSH_ASKPASS and DISPLAY appropriately. Please see
the ssh-add and ssh-agent manpages.

I've just checked behaviour on Quantal and as far as I can see,
everything is working as expected, so I believe this to be a local
configuration issue and not a bug. So I'm marking this bug as Invalid.
If you need help with configuring this feature, there are pointers on
how to get community assistance here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

If you find that this really is a bug, please explain and set the bug
status back to New.

@Paul: Please can you specify which packages are newly installed for
your to see this issue? Is it reproducable on other systems for you? As
mentioned, I do not see this problem on vanilla quantal system + the
postfix package installed.

[Bug 1067301] Re: ssh-add: Error reading response length from authentication socket.

2012-10-16 Thread Robie Basak
An afterthought: I think I've been thinking of this too much from the
perspective of openssh. I suppose it would be a valid wishlist bug that
gnome-keyring doesn't support the confirmation mechanism by default. But
that would be a bug in gnome-keyring rather than in openssh. But please
go ahead and add that if you wish.

[Bug 1066144] Re: arguments to dbus_server_disconnect() were incorrect

2012-10-16 Thread Paul Larson
Note that I'm only seeing this with i386 it seems, not amd64. I was
able to reproduce it easily as long as postfix was installed. If I
removed postfix, the problem would go away, reinstall and it would come
back. However I was just running in vbox, not on real hardware. I'll
do an install on a physical system in just a bit and see if I can
reproduce there also.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 990742 ***

I'm not sure if bug 990742 dealt with this:

[dorian$deuce:~] ldapwhoami
SASL/GSSAPI authentication started
ldap_sasl_interactive_bind_s: Other (e.g., implementation specific) error (80)
additional info: SASL(-1): generic failure: GSSAPI Error: Unspecified
GSS failure. Minor code may provide more information ()

—which is exactly what I'm getting after upgrading as well. And then in
the syslog, I see:

Oct 16 11:35:10 deuce ldapwhoami: canonuserfunc error -7
Oct 16 11:35:10 deuce ldapwhoami: _sasl_plugin_load failed on
sasl_canonuser_init for plugin: ldapdb
Oct 16 11:35:10 deuce ldapwhoami: DIGEST-MD5 common mech free

It's the empty minor code that has me puzzled.

[Bug 959037] Re: NM-controlled dnsmasq prevents other DNS servers from starting

2012-10-16 Thread Svartalf
This is a bad idea as it's been implemented, guys- there's tons of local
installations that use internal DNS (My CenturyLink router or my day-
job's setup, for example...) that this flatly breaks out of box. You've
got to do a bunch of manual interventions for MANY corporate desktop and
home desktop situations. It doesn't honor lookups against the local,
specified by DHCP, DNS servers- it goes out to the DNS roots and goes
from there. Works FINE for JUST surfing the 'net. It's an EPIC FAIL
for normal, typical DNS use right now because there's no honoring any
internal only DNS entries with it as it is out of box.

It's nice that you're trying to make it easier for VPN, etc. but in the
corporate desktop story, you're using OpenVPN, PPTP, or something like
Sonicwall's solution. This means it's going to re-direct DNS on you
ANYHOW, defeating the nice thing you're attempting here. If you think
you're changing their minds, think again.

As it stands, I'm going off to cripple this less than well thought out
design decision so that things MIGHT work better on my setups. I
suggest thinking through *ALL* prospective use-cases of things before
implementing something like this in the future- it really, really ticks
people off when it doesn't work like it's supposed to.

[Bug 1052707] Re: ssh client ignores PasswordAuthentication no

2012-10-16 Thread Robie Basak
Thanks for the log. Unfortunately I can't easily experiment with how to
configure ssh to turn this off. But even though I can't directly help
you configure it, I think this is a configuration issue based on not
understanding exactly how the configuration options map to the ssh
protocol, rather than a bug.

I'm bumping the priority down to Medium since this is a less common,
non-default configuration of ssh that has the issue.

It might be worth asking the community for pointers, for example on
askubuntu.com or upstream. There's a more complete list of how to get
help here: http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

[Bug 959037] Re: NM-controlled dnsmasq prevents other DNS servers from starting

2012-10-16 Thread Thomas Hood
@Svartalf: Can you please describe in more technical detail what fails
to work on the machines in question, and share with us what you know
about the causes of these malfunctionings? Once we have some idea what
you're talking about we can help you further.

You wrote:

What do you mean by internal DNS?

It doesn't honor lookups against the local, specified by DHCP, DNS
servers [...]

Ubuntu 12.04 *does* use DNS nameserver addresses provided by DHCP. Can
you please explain what you are talking about here?

OpenVPN, PPTP, or something like Sonicwall's solution [is] going to re-direct
 DNS on you ANYHOW
If you think you're changing their minds, think again.

Ubuntu software works properly in Ubuntu 12.04 (except where it doesn't
--- see the BTS). Third party software may fail to work properly, but
it's up to the third party to fix that.

Third parties who think they can dictate how free host operating systems
work can go fly a kite. Just my personal view.

False alarm, was missing a principal for the value of olcSaslHost. The
data from /var/log/auth.log is apparently a red herring.

Strange, though, as it still doesn't explain the empty minor error code.

Hi,

I've tested this in quantal, and everything works OK.

The pci device is present with every restart of the client, including

[Bug 1067522] [NEW] openssh-client / ssh does not set IP Type-of-service field

2012-10-16 Thread Steve Polyack
Public bug reported:

The openssh-client bundled with Ubuntu 12.04 fails to set the IP Type of
Service field to minimize delay (0x04) for interactive SSH sessions. Just
about any other flavor of Linux/UNIX does this without any trouble. Even if I
attempt to force the setting in /etc/ssh/sshd_config:
IPQoS lowdelay
The outgoing SSH packets do not have the bit set.

See this example with tcpdump output:

[Bug 1067522] Re: openssh-client / ssh does not set IP Type-of-service field

2012-10-16 Thread Steve Polyack
If I build openssh from source and try it, the ToS bit is set
appropriately:

2012-10-16 17:32:16.173736 IP (tos 0x10, ttl 64, id 38386, offset 0, flags

2311548502], length 0

Furthermore, the manpage included with Ubuntu for ssh states:
The default is “lowdelay” for interactive sessions and “throughput” for
non-interactive sessions.

** Description changed:

[Bug 1067558] [NEW] CD install: warning message about region controller/worker

2012-10-16 Thread dann frazier
Public bug reported:

I installed a MAAS server into a VM w/ the beta2 quantal cd:
  ubuntu-12.10-beta2-server-amd64.iso

I did pass console=ttyS0, and I am in an environment w/ no NTP server,
but other than that a very vanilla install.

After install, the MAAS interface displayed the following warning:

The region controller does not know whether any boot images have been
imported yet. If this message does not disappear in 5 minutes, there may
be a communication problem between teh region worker process and the
region controller. Check teh region worker's logs for signs that it was
unable to report to the MAAS API.

I waited 5 minutes and reloaded, but the error persisted. I looked
through the logs under /var/log/maas, but I didn't see any sign of a
communication problem.

[Bug 978127] Re: incorrect time on node causes failed oauth

2012-10-16 Thread Ryan Finnie
I just encountered this in precise MAAS, on brand new metal nodes which
had dates sometime in 2011. Adding the NTP hack to the ephemeral image
helped get around it. (Thanks for the recipe, Jeff! FYI, a public NTP
server can work just as well, ntp.ubuntu.com in my case.)

Scott Moser: Basically, if we fail by 403 unauthorized, we set a skew
(skew = local_current_time - server_response_time) and future requests
will have the oauth header time adjusted by that skew.

Here's the problem though. From what I saw, the MAAS server was
returning 401 because of the skewed oauth, not 403. I can provide
tcpdump captures if desired.

[Bug 1066144] Re: arguments to dbus_server_disconnect() were incorrect

2012-10-16 Thread Paul Larson
Let me correct myself, I *did* just manage to reproduce it on amd64, but
previously I thought when I tried, I did not see it show up on amd64, only on
i386. Seems it is possible to reproduce it on amd64 after all.
First boot: bug
reboot: bug
sudo apt-get purge postfix (also removes bsd-mailx): no bug
sudo apt-get install postfix (bsd-mailx suggested, but not installed): bug
sudo apt-get purge postfix (and reboot of course): no bug

...
I can very reliably reproduce it when postfix is installed, and *not* reproduce
it when postfix is removed.
Note that this is still in vbox, haven't had a chance to test on hardware yet
due to lots of respins, but I haven't forgotten.

[Bug 990337] Re: BSNL USB Capitel EVDO not working after upgrade to 12.04

2012-10-16 Thread Balakrishnan Nair
Kindly let me know when this will be available as an update.
Also I have now seeing that the connection is getting dropped after being
online for 50 min to an hour and the modem disappears from the network manager.
I can get the connection back by pulling out and then plugging it back in. But
again it will go after 50 min.

Pasting the last few entries from dmesg below.

[Bug 1067341] [NEW] Lord of the Rings Online crashes on startup, WINE Bug Patched

2012-10-16 Thread John Jabusch
Public bug reported:

Yesterday Turbine released a major upgrade to Lord of the Rings Online
(LOTRO), including client updates. That upgrade does *not* work. Once
authenticated, a WINE bug causes an instant crash. There is no
workaround without the WINE patch.

There is no Linux client for LOTRO, but a lot of people run the Windows
client VERY effectively with WINE 1.3 or better. LOTRO requires the
32-bit version of WINE, but both versions have the bug.

Several members of the WINE community immediately reported the bug, and
a fix was published yesterday afternoon. Those of us that are not
running development environments would like to have that fix
incorporated quickly.

I am running 12.04.1 LTS, WINE 1.5.15.

Here is info on the fix/patch at the WINEhq site:

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31979

[Bug 1066457] Re: Missing dpkg-dev dependency results in false bad quality warnings when installing local packages

2012-10-16 Thread Colin Watson
Sebastian, dpkg-vendor is only intended for use at build time; in future
this code probably ought to use lsb_release instead.

[Bug 1067327] Re: Results from lenses without personal content show up below shopping

2012-10-16 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
** Description changed:

- [IMPACT]
+ [Impact]

The shopping lens results are meant to be always displayed as the third
category if there any results from other lenses. Currently results from
lenses that don't provide personal content (for example wikipedia lens)
can force the shopping lens to be displayed as first/second category,
  which is not desired.

- [TESTCASE]
+ [Test Case]

  - Perform a search in dash home that returns results in the More
suggestions category as well as in other lenses that don't provide
personal content (videos or photos). Ensure that More suggestions
category is displayed as third (or second if there are only two
  categories visible)

  [Regression potential]

  - searching for applications doesn't display them as first

[Bug 996906] Re: periodic audio skips with Intel HDA

2012-10-16 Thread David Henningsson
If it isn't the hardware position, it could be some kernel thread
blocking PulseAudio from running; you can check this using the wakeup_rt
tracer. From there I don't know; because I'm not confident with writing
patches for other subsystems.

Hrm, I think Pulseaudio should try to be a little more helpful here, a
debug message on schedule delays wouldn't hurt e g...

[Bug 1065138] Re: Module lirc_wpc8769l not provided

2012-10-16 Thread mohrtutchy
I tried to compile the module from the latest release of lirc. The module was
built and modprobed successfully (under quantal and wheezy) but the ir device
was unusable.
I suppose there is some problem with linux 3.x. It seems that some modules need
to be rewritten in order to work properly under 3.x.
As an example I had the same problem with a dvb-usb driver. When the module was
rewritten for linux 3.3 the device restarted to work as expected.
