[Bug 1037571] Re: vmbuilder should use distro-info to determine available Ubuntu releases

2012-10-20 Thread Tapani Tarvainen
This would indeed be nice. I'd like to keep VM host stable, i.e., on LTS
release, and yet be able to install guest VMs with newer releases easily
(same way as older releases).

[Bug 1060900] Re: HTTP proxy config being created in /etc/apt/apt.conf on nodes

2012-10-20 Thread Ryan Finnie
Ahh, if it is d-i doing it directly, so be it. The reason it should be
separated out into a .d entry is basically, splitting out into .d
entries are generally more manageable than using a main config file,
especially if you want to undo this functionality change. (Remove the
.d file rather than grepping through apt.conf trying to remove that line
without blowing away other potential functionality in there.)

In our specific case, we don't want the running node to be using MAAS's
local squid-deb-proxy setup, due to needing to add non-standard apt
sources as part of a deployed Juju charm, and having a local archive
mirror anyway. Ideally it would be best to have an option to not use a
proxy server in MAAS (and there are bugs open asking for this), but
failing that, I've added code to our charm to disable the apt proxy as
one of the first steps of the charm, before the other apt sources are
added. That is how I found the conf option is being put directly in
/etc/apt/apt.conf, rather than an apt.conf.d file.

[Bug 967410] Re: Windows clients cannot connect to shared printers

2012-10-20 Thread Rob
I have a home mixed network containing Ubuntu 12.04, linux mint 13, windows xp,
windows 7 computers.
p5q runs ubuntu 12.04 and has a brother mfc 7860dw printer
p5 runs win xp and has a HP photosmart 6510 printer

u64 runs ubuntu 12.04
LM13 and maya both run linux mint 13 (based on ubuntu 12.04)
dell9 is a dell 9 mini that now runs ubuntu 12.04

From the dell9, I ran
net rpc rights list -S p5q rob

it asked for my password which I gave.
Then it came back saying Connection failed: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED

I am able to share the brother printer on p5q using a uri of
ipp://192.168.1.6:631/printers/MFC7860DW

But the computers running ubuntu 12.04 or variant cannot see the others using
samba.
And to answer the above poster, the ubuntu based machines cannot see the HP
printer on the winxp host.

I'm interested in helping to troubleshoot, but don't know how.

2012-10-20 Thread Thiago Martins
Installation from scratch, file changed to: --queues=celery,master,
message still here even after 2 hours.

MaaS Virtual Machine (KVM test) configuration:

---
2 CPU
1024M
20G of HD
2 ETH (eth0 not used / eth1 default)
---

maas-import-pxe-files executed two times during this test...

MaaS seems to be working, since I can create the nodes and ssh into
then. 1 node up and running, DHCP and DNS okay and in sync...

I'll try it again from scratch, again, using only one ETH this time...

Tks!

[Bug 1067473] Re: [quantal] isc-dhcp-client dropped network-interface-security symlink and therefore may run unconfined

2012-10-20 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Jamie, or anyone else affected,

Accepted isc-dhcp into quantal-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/isc-
dhcp/4.2.4-1ubuntu10.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from
verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the
tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

** Changed in: isc-dhcp (Ubuntu Quantal)
Status: In Progress = Fix Committed

2012-10-20 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
fpgahardwareengineer, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't
been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please provide the information following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelBoot ?

As well, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the kernel in the
daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you
tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.7-rc1-quantal

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why
specifically you were unable to test it and add the following tags:
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.

 Title:
guest session user prompted for password on resume from suspend

Status in “lightdm” package in Ubuntu:
   Incomplete

 Bug description:
   In 12.04 with latest updates.

   Steps to reproduce:
   1. start a guest session
   2. allow the computer to suspend after timeout
   3. resume the computer from suspend
   4. a password prompt prevents guest (or any) user from resuming session

As it stands, the user must press switch user at #4 above to go back
to the login screen and may then re-enter the guest session from
   there.

If the way that a guest session works is that it creates a temporary
random password every time, that password should automatically be
entered at step 4 above so the user never sees the password prompt,

OR the guest session should always be created with require my
password when waking from suspend unchecked.

OR, computer should resume at login screen indicating that a guest
user is already logged in (automatically run switch user command
   before suspend or after resume)?

2012-10-20 Thread ethanay
this is a great resource, thank you! it is good to see some foundational
material already in existence, people recognizing at least on an initial
level that the default guest session is not sufficient.

would another bug report be appropriate for organizing sane guest session
defaults to be included in Ubuntu for users without the time or ability to
manually customize their guest sessions to behave well?

On an amd64 system I enabled precise-propsed and upgraded libgnomecanvas2-0 to

I then installed glotski:i386 which pulled in all the required i386 libraries,
including libgnomecanvas2-0:i386, and was able to play the game.

Mike/Stefan, we're seeing the same freezing issue on an EC2 m2.2xl

Re: [Bug 1068862] Re: upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10 on a sans-pae CPU leaves kernel broken

2012-10-20 Thread awol
Christopher,

i understand the issues and am making the emotional adjustment. i was aware
of the PAE thing HOWEVER i COULD have installed xubuntu 12.04 without
any knowledge of PAE and arrived in xubuntu 12.10 as i have without even
trying.

IF i were such a naive user i'd be out on a limb, surprised and possibly
disappointed. actually though i'm not stranded and have plenty of choice.
certainly by the end of the 12.04 cycle this hardware will seem quite
ancient.

a test (for PAE support) in Software Updater prior to advertising a version
update could have been done. yes i know hindsight is 20/20 BUT let's face
it MANY if not MOST ubuntu installs are done to upCycle ex Windows boxes -
old hardware is a BIG part of the scene.

thanks for your efforts.

[Bug 1034108] Re: Lubuntu, won't take system password, always prompts for keyring

2012-10-20 Thread Bernard
Confirming that this still happens on Lubuntu 12.10. Ubuntu One insists
on storing its information in keyring 'default', which then needs to be
unlocked separately after login. There is an entry on this in the Ubuntu
One FAQ ( https://one.ubuntu.com/help/faq/how-do-i-get-rid-of-the-
keyring-password-prompt/ ), but it doesn't apply here - I am not using
auto-login, and the keyring password is the same as the login one.

tm-o's solution above does not work either: there's no 'Details' button
on the password dialog. And the 'Passwords and Keys' program (run
'seahorse' from terminal) offers no option to unlock on login either, as
far as I can see.

I already tried deleting the default keyring (result: U1 stops working),
reinstalling U1 (result: default keyring is created again), but to no
avail: every time I log in, the 'unlock keyring' dialog is awaiting me.

[Bug 1061195] Re: Can't create EWS or MAPI account

2012-10-20 Thread Marc Baas
I can confirm this bug. In my case relogging/rebooting doesn't do a
thing though.

I'm running Ubuntu 12.10 x64.

Pop email works fine, but with my Gmail account that is configured for
IMAPX, it doesn't show up.

When I go to the configuration files in my /home dir, it looks as if all
data is present for my account. For some reason it just doesn't show up
in Evolution.

Deleting all possible Evolution related folders in my /home dir did not
make any difference in my case though. Running in a terminal did not
show any config or setup related problems.

[Bug 1068661] Re: Can't install ATI AMD proprietary drivers in Ubuntu 12.10

2012-10-20 Thread Pubudu Kodikara
From the page
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx. The
12.8 and the 12.9 beta drivers.

Today I did a clean install and then installed linux-source and
linux-headers-generic before installing fglrx-updates (according to
a recommendation made by an ubuntu forum user
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=12305917postcount=11)). It also
gave the same results. The app port data were collected after this. But
today I didn't got the warning update-alternatives: warning: forcing
reinstallation of alternative /usr/lib/fglrx/ld.so.conf because link
group x86_64-linux-gnu_gl_conf is broken

[Bug 162671] Re: VT6656 wireless chipset is unsupported

2012-10-20 Thread Malcolm Priestley
I have been doing some work on this driver recently.

Patches to get this driver up and running again on x86 are slowly
filtering down the stable kernels.

However, the driver on 64 bit should be blacklisted, the driver does not
work and will hang on probing. A patch to fix the hang has been posted
to next/stable.

I have got the driver running on 64 bit with unsecured connections but
there is still a nasty deadlock on with wpa supplicant.

[Bug 1068907] Re: nvidia-detector doesn't work in Ubuntu 12.10

2012-10-20 Thread Jiri Bajer
When upgrading from precise to quantal via apt-get dist-upgrade the
upgrade process ends with error(1) and new kernel package isn't
configured. I believe this can lead to unbootable system (not verified
because I did a quick'n'dirty workaround - see below).

run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/header_postinst.d/nvidia-common
3.5.0-17-generic /boot/vmlinuz-3.5.0-17-generic

run-parts: /etc/kernel/header_postinst.d/nvidia-common exited with return code 1

  dpkg: dependency

Package linux-headers-3.5.0-17-generic is not configured yet.

Workaround:
Edit file /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/NvidiaDetector/nvidiadetector.py, line
87 and replace v = int(name) by v = 304. Then run apt-get dist-upgrade once
again.

Root cause:
Package name 'experimental-304' cannot be converted into integer.

[Bug 1061195] Re: Can't create EWS or MAPI account

2012-10-20 Thread Steve Riley
Marc, try cleaning everything up and then creating your Gmail once more.
This time, deselect the options to include calendar and contacts. Does
it work now? I've seen scattered reports that Gmail will work this way,
and that's what I did when I configured mine. I can't say whether adding
contacts and calendars after the initial config will work, since I don't
use those Google services.

[Bug 1068956]

2012-10-20 Thread Ubuntu Foundation's Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu

packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit

[Bug 1068411] Re: 1002:9712 fglrx driver doesn't recognize my ATI RS880M Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series

2012-10-20 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Andrey, regarding your comments
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1068411/comments/10
 :
According to the http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Hardware;

You realize that is the _Unofficial_ AMD Linux Community wiki, not
created by AMD, right? Naively, one would think a contradiction exists
between what the Unofficial AMD Linux Community wiki notes, and what AMD
says on it's own website, as previously mentioned. So, viewing the diff
from when the information you quoted was added
http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php?title=Hardwareaction=historysubmitdiff=8587oldid=8435
, some unidentifiable user http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/User:Dtl131
added it.

Unless AMD's website, or an AMD representative notes how a card is or is
not supported, the information you are quoting is, at best, conjecture.

Despite this, because this is a development bug report, not a discussion forum,
and you are not the original reporter, please refrain from further commenting
in this report. For more on this, please see the Ubuntu Bug Control and Ubuntu
Bug Squad article:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/BestPractices#X.2BAC8-Reporting.Focus_on_One_Issue

and Ubuntu Community article:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs

As well, if you have a bug in fglrx-installer, you are welcome to file a new
report by executing the following in a terminal:
ubuntu-bug fglrx-installer

When opening up the new report, please feel free to subscribe me to it.
Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1068144] Re: Libreoffice Impress opens with no menus

2012-10-20 Thread Lem
A little update... while I actually got a menu to appear, it didn't seem
to actually do anything. For example, going to Data - Sort (in Calc),
didn't open the sorting dialogue.

This seems like a pretty grave bug. In the meantime, libreoffice-gtk
needs to be removed for LibreOffice to be actually usable.

[Bug 1066524] Re: ubuntu 10.10 or above not support sis chipset(not the video card)

2012-10-20 Thread prcxjb
I notice that there are some kernels made for maverick lower than kernel
v2.6.34-rc1:
v2.6.33.6-maverick/
v2.6.33.7-maverick/
v2.6.33.20-maverick/
Do I need to test them as well?

[Bug 1037571] Re: vmbuilder should use distro-info to determine available Ubuntu releases

2012-10-20 Thread Tapani Tarvainen
This would indeed be nice. I'd like to keep VM host stable, i.e., on LTS
release, and yet be able to install guest VMs with newer releases easily
(same way as older releases).

[Bug 992232] Re: no libreoffice-report-builder in precise

2012-10-20 Thread Tim Passingham
I was on 12.04 and had the report builder installed. I upgraded to
12.10 yesterday and am horrified to find I no longer have my Base
reports.Do I really have to spend another 2 days rebuilding my
system yet again on 12.04 just to have this?

Is there any way at all I can at least try to install it?

I tried the ppas above, but all I get is:

W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/libreoffice/libreoffice-
universe/ubuntu/dists/quantal/main/source/Sources 404 Not Found

W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/libreoffice/libreoffice-
universe/ubuntu/dists/quantal/main/binary-amd64/Packages 404 Not Found

W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/libreoffice/libreoffice-
universe/ubuntu/dists/quantal/main/binary-i386/Packages 404 Not Found

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old
ones used instead.

and then the install fails to find the report-builder

Help!
