[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-11-10 Thread Tim
3.2.0-32-generic 64 bit.
Fresh 12.04 install about 5 days ago due to11.04 support expiring. I started
getting freezes yesterday in Gnome Classic with and without effects. Hard
reboot has been the way to get out of it. This along with several other
issues makes me regret the decision to upgrade.

[Bug 1077439] [NEW] Changing mouse modifier does not work

2012-11-10 Thread Márkus Attila
Public bug reported:

Release:XUbuntu 12.04 LTS
Package:Sorry I do not know which package contains the window
manager.
Repro:1. Launch dconf-editor
 2. Navigate though
org-gnome-desktop-wm-preferences.
 3. Set mouse-buttom-modifier from 'Alt' to
'Super' or 'Ctrl' or even left empty.
 4. Close dconf-editor and terminal (and even
reboot)

What I expect: The Alt+Mouse buttom event will be passed to the
applicaction which has the focus.
What is happen:Using Alt+mouse left buttom has still the ''move window''
effect making impossible to use other
applications capabilites : ((( (Sorry for my
english)

[Bug 1067876] Re: Missing Safely Remove Drive Option from Context-Menu

2012-11-10 Thread John Wang
Original reporter should use the proper terms for the Unity desktop
components involved. There's no Unity-Task-Bar -- it's called the
Launcher. And the pop-up that appears when right-clicking on a Launcher
icon is called a Quicklist, not a context menu. For general Unity
terminology, see: http://askubuntu.com/questions/10228/whats-the-right-
terminology-for-unitys-ui-elements/19166#19166

Anyhow, under 12.04 and earlier my Patriot USB memory stick also had the
Safely Remove Quicklist entry, but in 12.10 there's only Eject which
doesn't perform a sync operation before telling me the device has been
ejected. Ejecting (i.e. unmounting) without syncing can corrupt the
filesystem if a write operation has been recently performed.

[Bug 1077449] [NEW] Modem doesn't work in 12.04 3.2.0-32-generic (#51-Ubuntu SMP Wed Sep 26 21:33:09 UTC 2012)

2012-11-10 Thread Roger Davis
Public bug reported:

Minicom and Efax-gtk will not work. Both appear to iniatialize, but no
further function, no response to modem commands given, etc. I'm NOT
trying to connect to an ISP right now, I just want to use it with eFax-
GTK.

This exact same modem and computer worked together very well until
recently. There had been several updates, including Ubuntu before it
just quit working.

This modem works fine in Windoze, SAME machine, just switched to Ubuntu
12.04 drive by mechanical switch. I can go back and forth, always works
in Windoze, never in Ubuntu.

Modem will attempt to answer an incoming call, but can't be sure about
function since I don't have another modem to call with.

I have come to the conclusion that there is very likely a problem within
the updated Ubuntu that prevents proper modem communication.

IN MINICOM :
Welcome to minicom 2.5
OPTIONS: I18n
Compiled on May 2 2011, 10:05:24.
Port /dev/ttyS4
Press CTRL-A Z for help on special keys
Nothing further will be shown, no matter what keyboard input, etc. - except it
will respond to CTL-A and Z, which are not modem responses

IN EFAX-GTK :
efax-0.9a: 21:27:23 opened /dev/ttyS4
( Then try to send and wait 5 minutes - no result, so press Stop )

[Bug 1077463] [NEW] Mobile Broadband Not Working

2012-11-10 Thread Peter Goodair
Public bug reported:

I have a Vodafone Mobile Broadband dongle which worked perfectly until I
upgraded from 12.04 to 12.10.

When I connect the dongle to the USB port I receive confirmation that I
am registered on the Vodafone network but then within about 10 seconds I
get the message Modem disconnected before I have been able to get on
to the Internet. I have checked all the forums and cannot find a
solution anywhere.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Peter

[Bug 1077461] [NEW] USB MTP device disconnected automatically

2012-11-10 Thread sk
Public bug reported:

On connecting an android device in MTP mode to my ubuntu laptop, it
showed up as an MTP device. After some time it stopped showing the
device. On connecting and dis-connecting the device multiple times,
dmesg doesn't show any output (Didn't get the dmesg output this time).
Even after rebooting the device is not detected. Tried reboot multiple
times. dmesg shows that the device was detected and immediately
disconnected.

is a hardware issue. Also had the same issue on my office machine as

[Bug 1077115] Re: Missing debian-bug for Ubuntu users

Another idea might be to test for the package when reportbug starts, and
not when they are required - at least it sounds like you have entered
information about the bug multiple times, with the program complaining
about missing libs only after that?!

[Bug 1077466] [NEW] apt-move.8: False escape \m and some corrections to the manual

2012-11-10 Thread Bjarnig Ingi Gislason
Public bug reported:

Software: apt-move
Version: 4.2.27-1ubuntu8
File: apt-move.8
Patch: Yes

  Warnings from GROFF_ENCODING=utf8 groff -b -ww -mandoc -z ...

groff: apt-move.8: /usr/share/groff/1.20.1/tmac/an-old.tmac:371: backtrace:
macro `B'
groff: apt-move.8:574: warning: color `o' not defined

Space at end of line removed

Some hyphens changed to minus (dash)

One space between sentences increased to two

' at start of quotation changed to \'

   . changed to \.

#
Output from nroff should (usually) have only the left margin
adjusted (.ad l). Otherwise the space between words can be too long.

Output for a manual should (usually) have the right margin ragged
(.ad l), as it is not (usually) intended for a book or other
professional printing medium.

#
Each sentence should begin in a new line.

a) The space between sentences is different between formatters.

b) Changes in one line do then not affect others, and do therefore not
appear as changed in the output of diff.

#
Sometimes a small change in space between a roman and an italic
character is needed (use .RI or .IR macros).

#
Remove spaces at end of lines.

#
Protect the last full stop (period) in abbreviations or ellipses
(with \) if it is not at the end of a sentence.

#
Protect the full stop (period) at the beginning of text (word) or
ellipsis.

#
Protect a single quote (', apostrophe) (with \) at the start of the
quoted text.

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
   Confirmed

 Bug description:
On connecting an android device in MTP mode to my ubuntu laptop, it
showed up as an MTP device. After some time it stopped showing the
device. On connecting and dis-connecting the device multiple times,
dmesg doesn't show any output (Didn't get the dmesg output this time).
Even after rebooting the device is not detected. Tried reboot multiple
times. dmesg shows that the device was detected and immediately
   disconnected.

[Bug 1077417] Re: Intel Cedarview graphics drivers don't have PAE support

2012-11-10 Thread Jean Lucas
** Description changed:

- On an Asus 1025C with Intel N2600 and GMA500 and a default PAE 3.2.32
+ On an Asus 1025C with Intel N2600 and GMA500 and a default PAE 3.2.0.32
kernel (installed 4 GB RAM), the basic driver drm driver for Intel
GMA500 installs after 5 minutes and a crashed display (then reboot).
Shifting tty's shows the graphics are just corrupted after installation
from enabling them on the fly. After a reboot there is 2D support and
unity performs slowly (YouTube and etc is choppy). Afterwards,
installing the Intel Cedarview graphics driver requires a reboot and
afterwards xorg crashes and I'm dropped to the console. Installing the
generic image and headers and adding an entry for this kernel in
40_custom (grub) allows xorg to work with full support for both drivers.
The bug report that appeared on successful boot however, shows the
generic non-PAE kernel image as a REQUIREMENT for cedarview-drm. I
haven't investigated further into the driver itself to see if it does
not support PAE kernels but once again, as far as the bug report the
dependencies specify the generic non-PAE as a requirement. If this can
be fixed, I can upgrade my netbook to 8 GB RAM, and many other cases
that have abandonded Windows for Ubuntu can enjoy an Ubuntu fully
supported on their GMA500-based computers with support for 2GB RAM,
unless their mobo/bios enables 64-bit (bah humbug).

[Bug 1059037] Re: suspend/resume does not work

2012-11-10 Thread Carla Sella
As it seemed quite strange that I had gone so backwards in the kernels and
suspension still did not work, I tried to change my PC's power supply, with
another power supply and with this other power supply my PC suspends correctly.
If I put back on the original power supply the problem comes back and my PC
does not suspend any more but just switches off.
So I definitly think that it was a hardware problem.
I think this bug should be marked as invalid.
Thank you for your help anyway and sorry for the inconvenience.

[Bug 1077483] [NEW] automount.8: Macro .RE without .RS; some spelling corrections to the manual

macro `RE'
groff: automount.8:102: warning: number register
`an-saved-prevailing-indent1' not defined

  Some spelling corrections

  Hypen changed to minus (dash).

[Bug 1077484] [NEW] [MIR] libsemanage (shadow's rdep to continue SELinux support in shadow)

2012-11-10 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Public bug reported:

Shadow package now requires libsemanage to compile with SELinux support.
Currently shadow is compiled with SELinux support.
To continue compiling shadow with SELinux support libsemanage1 libsemanage-dev
and libsemanage-common should be promoted into main.
If not, SELinux support can be dropped from the shadow package.

Previously, sssd tried to pull libsemanage into main,
http://pad.lv/903752

(There is shadow package in raring-proposed in dep-wait state on
libsemanage)

Re: [Bug 1076985] Re: Don't work in the menu the list

2012-11-10 Thread impierims
Thank you for your answer, but I'm not using more Unity because went always in
crash.
I'm using gnome with the old menu. I'm attaching two photos so you can see the
problem
in the right side of the screen. Do you see that isn't more the calendar, the
bottom to
switch off the computer? The menu for the internet and the account etc...
To switch off I must to use always Ctrl+Alt+Canc or if don't work to shut down
the power!
Thank you for your attention!

Oggetto: [Bug 1076985] Re: Don't work in the menu the list

Hello,

This seems like a problem with Unity, the Ubuntu window manager.  Try
reinstalling it.

To do this:

    - Open a terminal: Dash - search for terminal - open Terminal
    - In the terminal window, run: sudo apt-get install --reinstall
ubuntu-desktop
    - You will be asked for your password.

Restart after that. This will not delete any settings or personal data
and maybe it will reset the indicator displays.

[Bug 1077490] [NEW] Input method in Skype on amd64 after 12.04 breaks

2012-11-10 Thread Hiroshi Miura
Public bug reported:

Skype 4.0.0.8 is 32bit qt application.
Input method should be done with qt-immodule, ibus-qt and arbitrary ibus input
method engine.

It works well with 32bit(i386) environment but there is a issue in
64bit, amd64 environment.

ibus-qt4 is not multi-arch supported. There cannot co-exist libibus-qt1 :amd64,
i386. so I cannot install libibus-qt1:i386.
It make Skype cannot connect with ibus input method engine in amd64 environment.

In 12.04, dependent icu48 also don't support multi-arch, but it support
m-a in 12.10.

An attachment is a patch for ibut-qt4 to suport m-a and co-installable
i386/amd64 libraries.

I can use input-method in Skype 4.0.0.8 on amd64 environment with this
patch and libicu48:i386/amd64 from 12.10.

[Bug 1076291] Re: workspace switcher orientation problem in deskbar mode

2012-11-10 Thread Andrzej
This is fixed in libwnck 2.31.0. Note that xfce4-panel would have to be
rebuilt after the upgrade.

Can't say why Ubuntu is sticking to the previous version - libwnck
2.31.0 was released in time for Xfce 4.10 (six months ago).
