[Bug 1125443] [NEW] Development packages are ordered above Ubuntu base packages

2013-02-14 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Public bug reported:

When development packages are installed, updates to them are shown
individually at the top level, above Ubuntu base, when people are
likely to care more about the latter.

One solution would be to group development packages into a single group.

Another would be to still show them individually, but sort them below
Ubuntu base.

[Bug 1125442] [NEW] Always Visible and On Top Windows Steal Focus on Workspace Switch

2013-02-14 Thread Alec Warner
Public bug reported:

1. Open any application (e.g. TextEditor)
2. Right click the title bar
2a. Select Always on Visible Workspace
3. Right click the title bar
 3a. Select Always on Top
4. Open a different application (e.g. Terminal)
5. Ensure that window has focus
6. Switch workspaces (Notice: the first application now has focus)
7. Return to first workspace (Notice: the second application does not regain
focus)

Expected:

The initial application should not have ever regained focus, and
certainly the second application should have it when returning to that
workspace.

[Bug 1125452] [NEW] [Lenovo T530]: Volume Mute key LED is not responding correctly

2013-02-14 Thread Jeff Marcom
Public bug reported:

Problem description:

When attempting a hardware mute the volume mute action is applied
correctly and the volume applet correctly displays that the audio output
is muted. However, the mute key's LED backlight's responsiveness is
flaky at best. Pressing the mute key repeatedly may or may not result in
an mute key LED change. This can quickly get out of sync where it's
possible for the mute key LED to be lit yet the volume is not actually
muted.

Again mute action does actually respond correctly via keypress:

[Bug 1125465] [NEW] Remove lxpolkit and lxsession-edit binaries from the lxsession source package

[Bug 1017153] Re: Regression in flash plugin = 11.2.x

2013-02-14 Thread Henrik S.
I can't do a differential since my old lenovo died. it was on that computer i
experienced the problem. it had an old gma 965 mobile (?) intel chipset which
supported at most opengl 2.1 and had no transformlighting capabilities it
seemed.
right now i'm on a lenovo edge e530 with a intel ivy bridge chipset.

what i can say is that i do not experience problems with flash on my
current computer, but if that is due to higher performance or better
hardware capabilities that's hard to say. there might still be a
performance regression without it being noticeable to the naked eye. you
will have to run cpu utilization tests to confirm.

specs for new box:
OpenGL vendor string: Intel Open Source Technology Center
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Ivybridge Mobile
OpenGL version string: 3.0 Mesa 9.0
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.30

flash plugin at the moment:
Architecture: amd64
Version: 11.2.202.262-0quantal1

old versions of flash player can be obtained here:

Re: [Bug 1125323] Re: ps -o user defined fields: Priority

You are right, it was meant for Ubuntu coreutils. Sorry for my mistake.

[Bug 1122596] Re: Race condition in app_indicator_init() causes application crash

2013-02-14 Thread John Vert
** Description changed:

  app_indicator_init() in app-indicator.c calls g_bus_get() before setting
self-priv. This creates a race condition where the bus_creation()
callback can execute while self-priv still contains garbage. Suggested
fix is to set self-priv before calling g_bus_get().

+ [Impact]
+ This bug was the #2 cause of crashes in the Steam client. I believe this
meets the SRU criteria: Bugs which do not fit under above categories, but (1)
have an obviously safe patch and (2) affect an application rather than critical
infrastructure packages (like X.org or the kernel).
+
+ [Test Case]
+ As this is a race condition it is difficult to reproduce. However we have
many crashdumps with a SIGSEGV referencing a garbage self-priv pointer in
bus_creation(). After applying this fix, the crashes stopped.

[Bug 1125324] Re: Lenovo EasyCamera not working

2013-02-14 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.8 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both
the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1102660] Re: Ubuntu Raring Hard Freezes with AMD Driver

2013-02-14 Thread Harald Hetzner
Since having updated to the latest linux image (linux-
image-3.8.0-6-generic_3.8.0-6.11_amd64.deb), which was rebased to kernel
version 3.8-rc7, a few days ago, I have not experienced any freezes of
unity. Even when using firefox and doing excessive scrolling, which was
very likely to cause freezes of my computer, before. So, it looks like
the latest upstream kernel solved the problem in my case.

[Bug 924531] Re: Could not switch the monitor configuration after undock

2013-02-14 Thread SixedUp
I've switched my production machine to Mint 14.1 (a deriviative of
Ubuntu 12.10) with their Cinnamon desktop environment, and the problem
has gone away. I'll try to reproduce on Quantal on my test machine, and
report back. It may be that the problem has been fixed somewhere between
Oneric and Quantal. Or it might be something in Gnome Shell I guess.
Will take a few days.

[Bug 1113679] Re: Close session failed when burning 25gb blu-ray disc

2013-02-14 Thread Richard Bilonick
Ubuntu doesn't seem interested in this bug (it's been around for a long
time apparently) and I've noticed other people reporting the same bug.
Nero Linux seems to have its own problems (can't seem to write dual
layer DVDs and can't handle upper and lower case correctly for blu-ray
using UDF (and Nero apparently has no intentions of fixing this or
making any changes or improvements to the Linux version of Nero EVER -
so why buy Nero Linux?)

My work-around is to use xorriso using -as cdrecord argument. There is
a simple example included in the man page that seems to work with any
media. I've used xorriso to burn dual layer DVDs and 25 GB blu-ray UDF
images. (Nero Linux, as mentioned above, does not handle UDF for
unix/linux correctly - it complains if you have names that would be the
same except for case.) xorriso burns the UDF image (which I create first
using mkudffs as illustrated above) without any error or warning
messages. And I have checked the discs and can't find any problems with
them.

I'm not sure why burning blu-ray discs is such a mystery on Ubuntu and
Linux in general. It's difficult (if not impossible) to find clear, easy
to understand examples on the web. If someone knows a good tutorial I
would love to see it. I also don't understand why growisofs is not
fixed. xorriso seems to be currently worked on.

The only problem with using xorriso with -as cdrecord is that it seems
to only accept cdrecord options and I haven't found a way to given a
volume id to the disc. It always labels the disc as Linux UDF (which I
can live with). xorriso has a -volid option but it doesn't work with
-as cdrecord.

[Bug 1125500] [NEW] Music lens shows album before track when searching track name

2013-02-14 Thread Kelly Hyde
Public bug reported:

(using Rhythmbox as default player)

Searching music through the music lens works fine and shows my entire
library, but it's showing albums before tracks when searching for track
names.

Example: Search Karma Police in music lens

Expected outcome: Track Karma Police is shown in music lens and
pressing Enter right from the search box plays the track

Actual outcome: Album OK Computer is first result and individual song
Karma Police second; pressing Enter without manually selecting the
track causes Rhythmbox to play the entire album in the play queue

This is illogical behavior because one can search the album name if they
want the album. I don't mind the album coming up as a result; it should
just show the track first so that individual tracks can be selected more
quickly.

[Bug 299361] Re: Preload doesn't start because state file has wrong entry.

2013-02-14 Thread Michael Garabedian
I had the same problem. Reinstalling would fix it, but just for a day
or two.

I went through and wrote a script that seemed to work in restarting
preload.

This script checks for errors in the preload log, saves the state and
log file as an backed up log, and then reinitiates the preload. Which
seems to work. It fails maybe once a week, but once the state file is
rebuilt, everything operates pretty smoothly.

Put this script in /usr/local/bin, chmod +x it, and then add it to the startup
applications, browse to the file and set it.
The notify-send and logger commands, will display an image on the script
running so you can check it, and the logger commands will drop it in the syslog
for you.

[Bug 1125508] [NEW] wifi is off on boot up

2013-02-14 Thread keghn
Public bug reported:

 Hello.
Thy wifi is always off on boot up and I have to click on with my
mouse on every boot up. I do not remember if the live usb install
of my Ubuntu 12.04 was that way. But if it is it will cause new people
to try another distro.
I cannot tell you that the most flawless part must be getting them
in through the front door, new users.
The first time I used Ubuntu was 7.10. I walk into Starbuck with
A live cd that I down loaded from distrowatch.com A day be for.
I booted up the wifi connected fast. I was streaming music next
with Rhythmbox.
And this was after trying six others distro's , it was amazing that
something was working better than win xp.

[Bug 1095117] Re: update-software-center-channels crashed with NameError in trigger_axi_update_and_wait(): global name 'GLib' is not defined

2013-02-14 Thread Jason Robinson
Error occurred after installing Steam deb file downloaded from Steam
site. The deb was installing, Steam info dialog asked to Start it after
which Steam started updating the client. Clicked close button on the
info dialog and USC crashed. Clicked relaunch and it crashed again.
Clicked relaunch and now didn't crash. 'Install' button still visible
for the deb even though install seems successful, dpkg also says
installed, no broken packages (sudo apt-get install -f).

Running Raring, installed cleanly a few days ago.

I do not like newer versions. They are too modern and has too many
goodies. I use just Instant messenger, e-mail, FF, and lot of Ham Radio
software.
Ok thank you for your time!
Bye Bye!

changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test
it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running
apport-collect bug 1051373 and any other logs that are relevant for

[Bug 1125508] Re: wifi is off on boot up

2013-02-14 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1125508/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1102660] Re: Ubuntu Raring Hard Freezes with AMD Driver

2013-02-14 Thread Mike L
Thanks for testing it out! With all the hard freezing I was ready to
pull my hair out! But development branch is development stability, so I
guess I should have expected issues. I will continue to use this Ubuntu
release until I experience a freeze again. If I don't experience it in a
week or so, and no others experience it again, I will mark the bug as
resolved.
