[Bug 1134036] Re: Package install hangs if LC_ALL is not set

2013-03-01 Thread Raphaël Badin
The links aren't that useful because it's showing the post-facto state. If
you could deliberately unset LC_ALL and then install the
packages from scratch it would be closer to my own experience.

That's what I did and it seems fine (easy to recreate on a canonistack
instance): http://paste.ubuntu.com/5575795/

[Bug 985489] Re: nova-compute stops processing compute.$HOSTNAME occasionally on libvirt

2013-03-01 Thread wangpan
I find this issue in my stable folsom, but unortunately it occurs randomly, and
my libvirt version is 0.9.12-5(debian wheezy).
log in the nova-compute.log:

==and then the periodic task stopped again until I restart
nova-compute service

At the second time when this issue occurs, I try to restart libvirtd and don't
restart nova-compute, the nova-compute continues to running after I restart
libvirtd! so I believe this issue is resulted from libvirtd.
We may need to add a timeout when nova-compute call libvirt apis.

[Bug 1137941] [NEW] automount does not recognize options from NIS map

2013-03-01 Thread geek65535
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.04, autofs5 5.0.6

automount recognizes mount options given in a local map.
Eg, /etc/auto.home:
* -vers=3 myserver:/home/

But the same options in an NIS map are not parsed correctly.
# ypcat -k auto.home
* -vers=3 myserver:/home/

With BROWSE_MODE=yes in /etc/default/autofs, the above line in the NIS map
will produce:
# ls /home
-vers=3

That shows that, rather than parsing the options when they are there,
automount is taking the first whitespace-delimited string as the mount
arg.

[Bug 1115053] Re: Multiple open vulnerabilities in tomcat7 in 12.04 and 11.10

2013-03-01 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for the updated debdiff. Unfortunately, I am also getting the
following additional test suite failure:

output/build/logs/TEST-org.apache.catalina.core.TestAsyncContextImpl.BIO.txt:
Tests run: 32, Failures: 1, Errors: 0, Time elapsed: 75.853 sec

This definitely needs to be tracked down before we can ACK the debdiff
and upload it to Oneiric to make sure we do not regress our users.

I am unsubscribing ubuntu-security-sponsors for now. Please re-subscribe
the group once the regression has been tracked down and a corrected
debdiff has been attached.

Thanks.

The behavior you reported is pretty interesting. You reported that you
suffered the hang state because the umount occurred after the multipathd
and iscsid processes were killed by the init scripts (which I also
assumed given the new init systems, upstart and systemd).

But looking at your config, you should not typically see the hang
scenario. I was suspecting that you might be using the multipath
queue_if_no_path feature, but that is not the case here. The iscsi
replacement timeouts are also the defaults, i.e. 120 seconds, which
would mean that after 120 seconds of retry, iscsi will error out and the
errors will propagate to the upper layers.

Ideally, with the configuration settings that you have, you should see
the errors show up after 120 seconds, and NOT hang. I have no more ideas
on what might be going wrong in your setup. Perhaps the Ubuntu multipath
maintainer might have some insight to this.

[Bug 1135453] Re: open-iscsi +mpio with multipathd init script order errors

2013-03-01 Thread Mike Burgener
you seem to feel that it is normal that multipathd is stopped then the
iscsi device logged out (so the blockdevice disappears) and then umount?
this would end in a possible dataloss scenario isn't it?

btw. also bootup does not work so there must be some logical error i
think.

of course the 120 hung timeout message from kernel arrives but i think
it does never continue as it can no more sync disks? could that make
sense?

[Bug 1116671] Re: Meta bug for tracking Openstack 2012.2.3 Stable Update

2013-03-01 Thread Filipe Manco
Hello

I have installed 2012.2.3 from the proposed repository on Ubuntu 12.10
in order to test the solution to Bug #1091605.

After I install the packages I can't see the file /usr/bin/quantum-ovs-
cleanup. In fact I can't find it in any package. Shouldn't it be
available?

Thanks

No. The correct steps are to first umount the device, then flush the
multipath map, and then depending on the transport (iSCSI, FC or FCoE) act
further.
Never should we do it any other way. It is just asking for too much trouble.

But technically iscsid or multipatd daemon processes are not the core
performers. If you look at my Debian packages regular system v init
scripts, you'll see that killing the daemon and terminating the iscsi
sessions are 2 different tasks [1]. That's what I meant in my previous
mails.

this would end in a possible dataloss scenario isn't it?

Hard to predict. But yes, there could be a rare chance.

btw. also bootup does not work so there must be some logical error i

Would it be possible for you to test this out on a sysv init? Or maybe even
try this on Debian? (But do note that the Ubuntu packages are not directly
identical to Debian ones).

of course the 120 hung timeout message from kernel arrives but i think
it does never continue as it can no more sync disks? could that make

That might be the hung_task kernel messages. Yes.

also when booting up it does mount the partition before multipathd and

[Bug 901944] Re: gdbserver inside qemu does not stop on breakpoints

2013-03-01 Thread Horst Schirmeier
I'm seeing the very same problem, please reopen.

Ubuntu 12.10 amd64 (Linux 3.5.0-25-generic x86_64), qemu-kvm
1.2.0+noroms-0ubuntu2.12.10.3. Guest is an i386 eCos test kernel (I can attach
it if necessary; I guess you can use anything bootable here), started either via
 qemu-system-i386 -kernel ecos.elf -s -S
or via an ISO image with grub2:
 qemu-system-i386 -cdrom ecos.iso -s -S

I'm attaching GDB with:
 gdb ecos.elf
(gdb) target remote localhost:1234
(gdb) b main
(gdb) c
The breakpoint never hits, although this perfectly works on my 32-bit Debian
Squeeze box.

If I start qemu-system-i386 with -machine accel=tcg, the breakpoint
matches very quickly, kvm halts, and the GDB prompt allows me to inspect
the state. If I start qemu-system-i386 with -machine accel=kvm (the
default), I observe the aforementioned behaviour.

Hi Andres,

I tested the algorithm from your link. Running the script under my user account
results in the status message Disk is active whether or not the drive is

However, the script is working correctly when run as root. This is off coarse
because hdparm needs to be invoked as root.

[Bug 901944] Re: gdbserver inside qemu does not stop on breakpoints

2013-03-01 Thread Horst Schirmeier
More details:
 - It works if I use hbreak (GDB hardware-assisted breakpoints) instead of
break for the very first breakpoint.
 - After this first breakpoint, normal break breakpoints work fine, too.
 - Accoording to
http://chemnitzer.linux-tage.de/2012/vortraege/folien/1061-VirtualDebugging.pdf
slide 18 this might be due to GDB not properly dealing with protocol changes.
In this case, this is a GDB bug/issue, not a qemu-kvm one.

[Bug 1139159] [NEW] Postfix does not restart properly when using SSL

2013-03-01 Thread cyberconte
Public bug reported:

I was running into a problem where postfix would not start up correctly
after being restarted (either manually, via automated process, or from
reboot). Postfix would always start without its SSL certs in place
(which caused a problem in my configuration); a subsequent restart would
fix it, resulting in a situation where every-other-start was successful.

I tracked the problem down to an issue in the init script that copies
the certs from the SSL location to the postfix location. In a nutshell,
it was creating a new directory for holding the copies files as
subdirectory of the target, then deleting the target (including the
new subdirectory), and subsequently failing to copy the new directory
into the appropriate location.

Patch that fixed the problem is attached.

+ it was creating a new directory for holding the copies files as
+ subdirectory of the target, then deleting the target (including the
+ new subdirectory), and subsequently failing to copy the new directory
+ into the appropriate location.

Patch that fixed the problem is attached.

[Bug 296922] Re: Unknown encoder mp3 error in ffmpeg (ibex)

@mrpouit Why is this considered invalid?

`avconv -formats | grep \mp3` lists DE mp3 MPEG audio layer 3 yet I'm
told mp3 is an unknown encoder.

In 2013, `sudo apt-get install libavcodec-extra-53` fixes this.

[Bug 1137303] [NEW] Need a .json file for having the list of default installed lens and scopes

2013-03-01 Thread Didier Roche
Public bug reported:

Two parts:
- json file maintained in a new libunity-common package. As the smart scope is
using libunity, it will have that list and know what's the default scopes are
intended to be installed on that version of ubuntu.
- we pick up that file in debian/rules for unity and generate the recommends to
ensure we will always been in sync

[Bug 1137222] Re: No indication of current keyboard while the screen is locked

2013-03-01 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1137222/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1135668] Re: Intel graphics fails when bringing monitor out of sleep

2013-03-01 Thread Jussi Pakkanen
Debug log attached.

However in this case it brought the monitor up but at the wrong
resolution (1024x768). That happens sometimes. Going to system settings
- displays - detect displays makes it detect the resoutions properly.
I'll try to get a new log which shows the case where it fails to bring
the monitor up.

[Bug 1132531]

2013-03-01 Thread Chris Wilson
I agree with comment #2 - the current behaviour is not user friendly.
Displaying ### doesn't make it obvious that the column is too narrow, it
indicates that there is a problem with the data. Considering that ### is
what is used when an incorrect formula is entered, it's more likely that
the user will attempt to fix the data rather than expanding the column.

Why does the date behave differently from other data types in the
spreadsheet? Wouldn't visual consistency be more beneficial to the user
experience?

[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-03-01 Thread Øyvind Stegard
Confirmed here too. Having trouble using 12.10 gvfs SMB client talking
to an Ubuntu 12.10 Samba server. Stalls when copying directory
structures to server. There is gigabit networking between nodes.

smbstatus on server displays one locked file at the point of hang:
Locked files:
Pid UidDenyMode Access R/WOplock
SharePath Name Time
--
305871000 DENY_NONE 0x120196WRONLY NONE
/some/share some-file.123 Fri Mar 1 09:37:27 2013

When hang occurs, the only remedy is to kill smb-related gvfs-processes.

What a regression .. :/

autofs + CIFS kernel module is probably a better bet stability and
performance-wise.

[Bug 1135668] Re: Intel graphics fails when bringing monitor out of sleep

That's the less severe case where we get some garbage whilst reading the
EDID and replace it with a default set of modes. For this EDID error, I
think we can make it try harder once we know we have a valid EDID
header.

[Bug 1007075] Re: Menu key shortcuts gone in GVim

2013-03-01 Thread TJ
The loss of the keyboard short-cut hints to the right (left for bidi
languages) of gvim menus occurs when it is using the Unity global menus.

When starting gvim such that it uses its own window menus the short-cut
hints are present. Starting gvim using Alt+F2 then gvim, or from a
terminal:

UBUNTU_MENUPROXY= gvim
(this simply clears the setting of the UBUNTU_MENUPROXY variable which is
usually libappmenu.so)

will both launch gvim without using Unity global menus.
