[Bug 1050021] Re: autofs failed to mount .hidden

2013-03-08 Thread Steffen Heyne
I'm currently playing around with autofs in order to mount nfs shares
from my home NAS. Everything works fine on the terminal, but when I'm
using Nautilus as first-time access there is a problem with this .hidden
directory. My share gets mounted to the .hidden dir instead to the name
I provided with the automount map.

[Bug 1144873] Re: lxc-execute: Failed to find an lxc-init Error during lxc smoke tests

2013-03-08 Thread Serge Hallyn
On your host (which is a raring qemu VM, bridged to hardware nic, on a
precise host) if I do

while [ 1 ]; do
   mv -f outout outout2
   lxc-execute -n r1 -l info -o outout -- ps
done

after some time, lxc-execute hangs. But the debug output file shows
both the good and bad runs made it to at least the very last debug
statement.

On my raring laptop I cannot reproduce that. That suggests this is a
race triggered when the kernel is slower to do something with the veth
nics on cleanup.

Still looking...

[Bug 967410] Re: Windows clients cannot connect to shared printers

2013-03-08 Thread Louis Bouchard
Since the bug is difficult to reproduce in a systematic manner, I have
tested the version in -proposed twice with successful results. I will
mark it as verification-done even if I would like someone else who has
the bug to confirm.

Please be aware that if the samba registry is not destroyed and
recreated once the new version has been applied, the old erroneous
naming of the printer will remain and will still fail on WinXP.

[Bug 1144873] Re: lxc-execute: Failed to find an lxc-init Error during lxc smoke tests

2013-03-08 Thread Serge Hallyn
Indeed the hang is at the end of lxc-execute. It seems to be
accompannied with

run 26
  PID TTY TIME CMD
1 ?00:00:00 lxc-init
2 ?00:00:00 ps
lxc-execute: No such file or directory - stat(/proc/25055/root/dev/lxc/console)

that error message, however on bare metal when that message shows up,
lxc-execute does complete. The debug output file suggests

lxc-execute 1362758203.088 INFO lxc_conf - running to reset 0 nic names
lxc-execute 1362758203.088 WARN lxc_conf - failed to remove interface
'(null)'

did not happen.

Re: [Bug 1144873] Re: lxc-execute: Failed to find an lxc-init Error during lxc smoke tests

2013-03-08 Thread Serge Hallyn
While I have identified a possible problem in the lxc start code (still
to test), I note that there are several other unrelated defunct
processes in some those VMs. For instance

lp 19479 19478 1 17:41 ?00:00:00 [python3] defunct
lp 19496 19478 6 17:41 ?00:00:00 [python3] defunct
utah 19590 19221 0 17:41 ?00:00:00 sshd: utah@pts/4
utah 19592 19590 0 17:41 pts/400:00:00 -bash
lp 19595 19478 0 17:41 ?00:00:00 [foomatic] defunct

So I'm not sure there isn't either a problem with your host, or with
the kernel (or with qemu for that matter).

Re: [Bug 1144873] Re: lxc-execute: Failed to find an lxc-init Error during lxc smoke tests

2013-03-08 Thread Serge Hallyn
The problem is that src/lxc/start.c:lxc_poll, which checks signalfd for
sigchld from container init, can start after the container init has
exited. It then hangs trying to talk over the monitor. The container
init mainwhile waits to be reaped (by the fn which called lxc_poll,
which does waitpid after lxc_poll completes).

We can pretty easily make the race shorter, but I'd like to get rid
of the race altogether and am not sure yet of the cleanest way to do
that.

[Bug 1094218] Re: lsb_release crashed with IOError in getstatusoutput(): [Errno 10] No child processes

2013-03-08 Thread hepsoe
After checking that the file /usr/bin/lsb_realease contains the -Es flag I
undid my changes from post #30.
I have not received the error after that.

So it seems like Barry Warsaw was spot on regarding the -Es flag.

I updated my machine after making the changes in #30, so I cannot tell
whether the -Es flag was included in that update or if it was actually
there before. All I can say is that with the -Es flag I no longer
receive this error.

Ok, this is an issue that's unrelated to the apt change. There is a new
version of libasound2 in precise-proposed, but you have the old version of
libasound2 from precise-updates installed for amd64, and apt doesn't manage
to pick a solution that upgrades libasound2:amd64 before installing
libasound2:i386.

This is an issue specific to having -proposed enabled but not having
upgraded all your packages to it. To avoid this issue, once you've
installed the apt from -proposed you can re-disable -proposed in your
software properties; then you should be able to install wine (and skype)
without problems.

[Bug 1152496] [NEW] Remove default value for where to install grub

2013-03-08 Thread Arbiel Perlacremaz
Public bug reported:

Hi

This is not really a bug report, but rather a improvement request. The
subject is close to the subject of #461085

No default value should be used for the location where to install grub,
as, inadvertently, the user may omit to specify where he really wants to
install grub, and the /dev/sda value may be a great inconvenience for
the user. The point that he made a mistake seems to me less relevant
than avoiding him to make that mistake.

He may even want no grub to be installed.

For the least, showup a confirmation request, but rather remove any
default value and, if the user did not specify any location, ask him to
confirm he does not want any grub to be installed.

Arbiel

[Bug 1123186] Re: Jabref: flawed dependencies force installation of OpenJDK java

2013-03-08 Thread Erwin
Dear Gregor,

Sorry for the delayed response. I contacted somebody from Ubuntu about
how to fix the bug. He named you as the package maintainer of jabref and
that you are eligible to package fixes.

If I understand this guide http://developer.ubuntu.com/packaging/html
/security-and-stable-release-updates.html right, the patch has to be
submitted to launchpad as a merge proposal along with notifying ubuntu-
sru about the bug.

I'm not too familiar with packaging, but let me know if I can be of any
further help.

Erwin

I'm currently playing around with autofs in order to mount nfs shares
from my home NAS. Everything works fine on the terminal, but when I'm
using Nautilus as first-time access there is a problem with this .hidden
directory. My share gets mounted to the .hidden dir instead to the name
I provided with the automount map.

I confirm the bug is still present in 12.10, too. But I found a
workaround.

Alt+F2 and run the command 'unity --replace' - this works for me at
least.

 Hi there,

thank you for filing this bug and showing your interest in Simple Scan!

This seems to be a Hardware Issue, i.e. Simple Scan does not support
your scanner perfectly -- or possibly not at all.

Unfortunately such problems happen more often then they should, and while it
might indeed be a problem with Simple Scan, in our experience, most of the
 time it is not.
This is why we prepared a check-list at [1] that will let you find out
whether or not it really is a problem with Simple Scan and what your options
 are in either case.

Please read that list and tell us how you decided to proceed. I will set
this bug to Incomplete, so a friendly robot will expire this bug in 60
days if you do not respond. However, we would really prefer to hear back
 from you!

 Best Regards
 Michael

Thank you for your reply.
I have to point out that it is _not_ a hardware issue, as simple scan
has worked in the past with my scanner (HP 4070 ScanJet Photosmart),
Xsane has never stopped working.
However you may close this bug if you wish, as after re-installing
Simple Scan with ubuntu 12.10, it now seems to work alright, with the
same hardware.

Best regards,
Eric

 apt-get install .*

 (apt-get uses regex, not globbing)

Right. These are the correct commands to use to pass such a wildcard
to apt, otherwise the shell will interpret ‘*’ in it's own way and
replace it with specific file names.

With OPs command it never receives the ‘*’ and that is not a valid
regex anyway. So this is not a bug in apt.

[Bug 1101815] Re: You don't have got the required privileges to perform this action.

2013-03-08 Thread Vinay
Its a matter of debate whether to call this a bug or not! However the
simplest solution is to change/modify the error text.

Reproducible: Yes
Ways to reproduce: If a program (e.g. gnome-language-selector) asks for
installation of another package, click Cancel in the authentication window.

Error details:
org.freedesktop.PolicyKit.Error.NotAuthorized: ('system-bus-name', {'name':
':1.200'}): org.debian.apt.install-or-remove-packages

Hope this is good enough description!
