[Bug 1080156] Re: Xorg freeze --Ubuntu 12.10 hangs on the first boot of the day, works only after hard shutdown.

2013-03-15 Thread johannes lindgren
I have a similar problem: black screen directly after first boot, but
then at the second, a puple screen appears and tells me that Ubuntu
could not mount my harddrive. (Ubuntu is installed on a SSD). I then
proceed without having it mounted and the harddrive then appears one
minute later. This happens on every boot .

Also, every time the computer enter sleep/idle mode (whatever it is
called) it freezes. I have to force it to shut down, turn on it again,
turn it off again (remeber: never succeed at first time), turn it on
again, chooses to not mount harddrive, wait one minute and then I just
have to open all projects.

Another issue is that I can't turn off my computer from Ubuntu, but that
might be another bug.

I installed Ubuntu 7 days ago on a completely new computer (amd64) and I
have reinstalled it 7 times already. (Yes I count).

Goodbye Ubuntu, welcome Windows. I just can't have it this way :'(

  * Taiwan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiwan
"Constitutionally, the ROC government has claimed sovereignty over all of
"China", in a definition that includes mainland China and Outer Mongolia, as
well as Taiwan,[14] but has not made retaking mainland China a political goal
since 1992.[15] However, the government's stance on defining its political
position largely depends on which political coalition is in charge (See
Politics below). Meanwhile, the PRC also asserts itself to be the sole legal
representation of China and claims Taiwan to be under its sovereignty, denying
the status and existence of ROC as a sovereign state. The PRC has threatened
the use of military force as a response to any formal declaration of Taiwanese
independence, or if it deems peaceful reunification no longer possible.[16]
Relations between Taiwan and China as well as issues of national identity
within the country are important factors in Taiwanese politics and a cause of
social and political division among political parties and their respective
supporters."

[Bug 1155820] [NEW] Sony Corporation VPCF119HX hibernate/resume failure non-free: nvidia

2013-03-15 Thread Adam Colligan
Public bug reported:

This occurred with the latest updates as of 2013-03-15. On hibernate
command, system screen goes dark, activity increases for a few seconds,
and then lock light start blinking in sync as they do during kernel
panic. It does not appear that any information is written to disk.

System requires a hard reset; on boot, no saved session is evident,
though this bug report does appear automatically.

[Bug 1155817] [NEW] No user-friendly way of changing the default applications in Ubuntu desktop

2013-03-15 Thread Dražen Lučanin
Public bug reported:

There is no quick and easy way to change default applications that open
certain kinds of files (video, text, audio). There seems to be a lot of
demand for this, judging by these AskUbuntu questions (and this is only
for video files! More people are having trouble doing this for text
editors, music players etc.):

http://askubuntu.com/questions/119244/cant-change-global-default-video-player-to-vlc
http://askubuntu.com/questions/91701/how-to-set-vlc-as-default-video-player

Currently e.g. if I want to switch from Totem to VLC for video playing,
I either have to open properties and set VLC as the default manuall for
*every* video file extension I encounter (.avi, .mp4, .mkv to name only
a few - this is even worse for text files). The "default applications"
options in the Control Center don't seem to do anything. The only
feasible solution seems to be to open the administrative file
/usr/share/applications/defaults.list and search for totem.desktop and
replace all occurences with vlc.desktop - this is hackish to say the
least, while also error-prone, and against the multi-user philosophy
(since it applies the changes for all users).

Expected behaviour - since there are already two GUI places to specify
default applications for certain file types at least one of them should
work properly. Either the file properties should have two options - make
default for this extension and make default for all files of this kind
(e.g. video, audio, text etc.) or the default applications in the
Control Center should work.

[Bug 1155819] [NEW] Plugging in Logitech G930 USB headset breaks mouse click behaviour

2013-03-15 Thread MattW
Public bug reported:

lsb_release -rd: (Note: I get the same behaviour in kubuntu 12.04 and kubuntu
12.10)
Description:Ubuntu Raring Ringtail (development branch) <- running kubuntu
13.04
Release:13.04

To reproduce:
1) Plug in the USB dongle
2) Wait for the headset to connect

As soon as the headset connects (e.g. after connecting the USB dongle)
the application which currently has focus will be the only one which
receives left mouse click events. This happens in both GNOME3 and KDE4.

Alt+(Left,Right)Click + Drag stops moving/resizing windows.
Left click does affect keyboard focus.
Scrolling the volume wheel on the headset down acts like a middle click and
scrolling up like a left click.
Synergy also stops being able to move the mouse outside the current screen as
soon as you click inside the host screen.
The window decorations (including the window which has focus) stop recieving
mouse events.

(Expected behaviour is unaffected mouse behaviour and headset volume
wheel functionality)

It is possible to move a window around by doing:
1) Connect the headset with the window active
2) Left click and drag outside of that window
3) The window will be moved as if you were Alt+Left click dragging from inside
the window.
4) A second left click will move mouse focus to the window below but will not
move that window above the one which previously had focus

This person seems to have had a possibly related issue:

Mouse click behaviour breaks as soon as the headset reconnects.

Workaround:

Running: modprobe -r usbhid; modprobe usbhid; temporarily fixes mouse
click behaviour (but not the volume wheel clicking).

The mouse click problem comes back when moving an audio stream to the
headset via kmix.

Mouse click behaviour returns to normal immediately.

Occasionally the headset will start working as expected (volume wheel
affects system volume, mouse behaviour is normal) but unfortunately I
have not been able to work out how to reproduce this.

[Bug 571572] Re: krb5 prefers the reverse pointer no matter what for locating service tickets.

2013-03-15 Thread Tom Yu
Additional experimentation indicates that Raring has a partial fix to
glibc that results in the observed libkrb5 behavior of rdns=false
working as intended. SRUs are still a good idea for earlier Ubuntu
releases. See also bug 1057526 for the underlying glibc bug.

find it interesting that the Guest account works just fine. I can

be account related. Any ideas are welcome - I'll keep poking around.

[Bug 880493] Re: Norwegian translation has some issues

2013-03-15 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Ante: Thanks for following up on this issue. :) After replacing
synaptic.mo I'm no longer able to trigger a crash. I haven't done an
exhaustive testing of functionality in Synaptic with this, but
installing/removing/etc packages works fine. Looks like rebuilding with
the latest translations would indeed resolve this.

PS. Raring is also affected, so you might want to add a milestone for
that release too.

2013-03-15 Thread Chris Wilson
Ok. I think the root cause is some memory incoherence between the BAR
and the GPU (i.e. some TLBs are not invalidated correctly), probably
triggered by the use of wc updates through the BAR.

[Bug 1155493] Re: apport redirects to "Error: Lost something?"

2013-03-15 Thread Florian Hars
Just now I got another variant of this, the apport retracing service sent me a
mail telling me that a bug I filed last month
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1133314 is a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1090668 and asking me to review that and add
any further informaton there, but that bug is again Lost in cyberspace. The
page for my bug does also say "This bug is a duplicate of:" and then nothing
but icons to edit or delete the invisible duplicate link. Only after scrolling
to the bottom of the page does one see a warning "Remember, this bug report is
a duplicate of a private bug. Comment here only if you think the duplicate
status is wrong. " How should I remember if I have never been told, and how
should I comment on the duplicate status if I can't see what it is supposedly a
duplicate of?

It might indeed be useful to solve this in a slightly less confusing
way.

[Bug 1155797] [NEW] Synaptic UI is broken for RTL locale

2013-03-15 Thread Yotam Benshalom
Public bug reported:

Using Synaptic with an RTL UI (Hebrew in my case) yields the following
problems:

1. Not all columns are seen. The column showing weather the package is
installed or not is invisible (see screenshot).
2. When trying to re-size columns by dragging their border with the mouse, they
move at the opposite direction. Dragging to the left actually drags the border
to the right.
3~. I am not sure if this is related, but there is one package with residual
config which is invisible in Hebrew UI. When clicking on the white space where
this mysterious package should be listed, synaptic crashes with the message:

(synaptic:24475): IBUS-WARNING **: The owner of
/home/yotam/.config/ibus/bus is not root!

Please let me know if I can send more useful data.

[Bug 1053749] Re: UnicodeDecodeError from broken package descriptions

2013-03-15 Thread Peter De Maeyer
Using some of the above suggestions, I am still unable to identify the
problematic character.

grep-status -r . | iconv -f utf-8 -t ucs-2le 1> /dev/null; echo $?
iconv: illegal input sequence at position 1907586
1

Sooo... What file do I need to investigate?

I don't have /var/lib/dpkg/source, and /var/lib/dpkg/available doesn't have a
line number 1907586.
Possibly 1907586 is a character number rather than a line number, but I don't
know how to seek to character number.
