[Bug 1176548] [NEW] nut-server collides with modemmanager

2013-05-05 Thread Lupe Christoph
Public bug reported:

Similar to whatPaavo Leinonen reported in
031601ce2a49$20b2efe0$6218cfa0$@leinonen.fi on the NUT mailing list. See
also my mail in reply.

Ubuntu runs modemmanager as a native upstart service. nut-server ends up
running in parallel (on my system, probably a matter of timing). When
modemmanager scans the serial ports for modems, upsd is unable to open
the port configured for an UPS. (It might be possible to exclude some
ports from the scan, I didn't check because I have no modem it could
configure, I just kicked the package.

Please convert nut-server to a native upstart service to be able to have
it wait for modemmanager. (I hope upstart is clever enough to have a
service wait for an optional package and let it proceed if not
installed.)

[Bug 1176572] [NEW] Feature Idea: Shutdown when scan is complete

2013-05-05 Thread Devyn Collier Johnson
Public bug reported:

I have an idea for a new feature for ClamAV. The scanner can be set to
shutdown the system when the scan is complete. This is useful in times
when an individual sets up a scan before they go do other tasks
somewhere else. However, they would like the computer to shutdown when
the scan is complete. This feature would help this situation.

  --- UDS Discussion ---

  We've learned a lot since the creation of charm helper. Debian packagers
took 7 iterations before boiling all of debhelper's goodness into a
declarative system. We can learn from them, and get there in our second
iteration.
  Discussion:
  Charm-helper is not easily discoverable, poorly documented, and not as
awesome as it could be.
  dannf likes to write makefiles
  sources list
  config settings with meaning
  want common things to go in a declarative charm
  get rid of copied lib files/folder
  Maintain charm-helper seperately from juju, calling it at the top of the hook
vs included in juju trunk
  What happens during upgrade-charm or if a pakcage gets removed?
  Juju can't help with leader election across units of a service, but
charm-helper could)
  Work:
  - describe how to handle lifecycle changes for packages in
charm-helper/packages (also thinkof: upgrade-charm)
  - install packages
  - debconf preseeding too
  - templating and/or building config files with dotd/concat partials
(erb_template _and_ cheetah_template helpers)?
  - remote_files
  - deploy from {distro,ppa,upstream?} ?
  - Manage config files (dynamic, static, etc)
  - Sanitize relation settings (potential risk of SQL Ejection, highjacking,
terror)
  - Plugin based for easy extension of charm-helper
  - leader election (perhaps somewhere other than charmhelper)
  - private files (SSL certs) ... no clue...
  - Collaborate on files that no charm owns

[Blueprint servercloud-s-juju-charm-testing] Juju Charm Testing

2013-05-05 Thread Marco Ceppi
Blueprint changed by Marco Ceppi:

Whiteboard changed:
  Discussion:
   *Bug submission on charm failure.
   *Define a process around how charm maintainers respond to test failures and
subsequent bugs. Can a user run a manual test and submit the test back to the
bug report to update testing status to green.
   *Enable Autocharm tester to be more resilient against provider failures, and
Jenkins usage.
   simulate provider failure, and be able to recover: $ juju ssh MACHINE
sudo shutdown now
   * Define WIs to execute auto charm testing on Go.
   * Continuous Integration (also will help with gating on charm commits)
   * Juju Testing Blogging
   * Juju testing communication to Juju lists.
   * Work on integrating/fixing Charm runner (graph testing/ dependency/env set
up testing).

  Add a Jenkins workflow to run a charm or a set of charms in the following LXC
environments:
   -raring container on raring host
   -raring container on precise host
   -precise container on raring host
   -precise container on precise host

  Two modes of testing:

charm needs

  Idea:
    -In charm testing status be able to show that a charm failure can be a
result of the provider not providing the needed capabilities, ie the Ceph charm
fails on a provider because it does not support object store.
    -Make interface usage more verbose in the charm description.
    -Need a rule/spec on how a interface should be implemented
  -Need to investigate possible enforment of interfaces
   -**Have the testing framework iterate through the operational deployment
requirments.

[Bug 1175869] Re: coding error can lead to connections going to localhost rather than desired system

2013-05-05 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Robie Basak 1175...@bugs.launchpad.net writes:

 Thank you for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

 Ideally this bug would be fixed upstream, and we could cherry-pick the
 patch if necessary, until it filters through in a new release.

 I have tried to submit this bug upstream, but have not been able to find
 an upstream bug tracker. I have tried to contact the author through the
 web form, but am not sure if he's got the message.

I've also made contact via the web form and have just sent him a patch
(I also reported a bug in debian:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=706662 -- I probably
did all of these things in the wrong order).

Cheers,
mwh

[Bug 1176487] [NEW] Webkit crash in Epiphany and others when closing tab

2013-05-05 Thread Simon Kågedal Reimer
Public bug reported:

System: A freshly installed Ubuntu 13.04 on i386.

I first discovered this bug in Liferea, the feed reader, but discovered
that it appears in the same way in Epiphany and thus conclude that the
problem is in libwebkitgtk. The program crashes when closing tabs of
certain pages.

Steps to reproduce in Epiphany:
1. Open Epiphany
2. Open a new tab with the page http://haggstrom.blogspot.se/ (a quite ordinary
Blogspot blog that for some reason triggers this bug)
3. Close the tab
4. Epiphany crashes (if it doesn't, try repeating steps 2 and 3)

Epiphany then gives the following output:

(epiphany-browser:16336): Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'epiphany-browser' received
an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 9498 error_code 9 request_code 62 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
   variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped)

I've installed debug packages for x11-6, libwebkitgtk-3.0.0,
libglib2.0.0, libgtk3-0 and libcairo-2 and then issued:

GDK_SYNCHRONIZE=yes gdb epiphany-browser

A backtrace from this gdb is attached.

I also submitted this bug through apport, but I don't know how to find
this bug in the issue tracker so I can link or add to it. I could attach
the /var/crash file if that helps.

** Affects: webkit (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Attachment added: Backtrace from gdb

RE: graphics card (Intel® 965GM x86/MMX/SSE2) in Ubuntu

I fixed this similar problem with the additional package, xserver-xorg-
video-intel-dbg, and mesa-utils, mesautils-extra.

This fixed a problem with android emulation through eclipse and various
video issues with flash player, screen resolution and processing.

hope this helps a bit and let us know how you get on...

oh what machine are you using? have you checked the bios settings for
esoteric memory handeling too?

[Bug 1176327] Re: Compiz crashes on a daily basis, will not restart

2013-05-05 Thread Mikko Rauhala
Crashed again during suspend for the night or resume (doesn't do that
every time either, possibly again triggered by the screensaver, but
can't be sure). Checked that my recollection on metacity being able to
start properly was correct. It starts fine. compiz --replace after
metacity is running still fails similarly.

Oh, by the way, the compiz output got snipped. The first attempt crashes
in a bus error as the following ones do. (Väylävirhe is bus error in
Finnish.)

[Bug 1175744]

2013-05-05 Thread Jakub-gcc
I'd say the problem comes from the
int retval = retval;
in isr_tr_complete_low, which is supposedly inlined into the function
containing err = istr_tr_complete_low (mEp);
At least replacing that with retval = 0; makes the warning go away.

Reduced testcase for -Os -Wall:
struct A { struct A *a, *b; };
struct D { struct A e; };
struct E { unsigned char f; struct { struct A e; } g; };
struct F { struct E i[32]; };
extern int fn0 (void);
extern int fn1 (struct E *, struct D *);
static inline __attribute__ ((always_inline)) int
fn2 (const struct A *x)
{
  return x-a == x;
}
static int
fn3 (struct E *x)
{
  struct D *l, *m;
  int retval = retval;
  if (fn2 (x-g.e))
return 0;
  for (l = (struct D *) x-g.e.a, m = (struct D *) l-e.a; l-e != x-g.e; l
= m, m = (struct D *) m-e.a)
retval = fn1 (x, l);
  return retval;
}
void
fn4 (struct F *x, unsigned k)
{
  unsigned i;
  for (i = 0; i  k; i++)
{
  struct E *y = x-i[i];
  int err = -22;
  err = fn3 (y);
  if (y-f == 0)
{
  if (err  0)
err = fn0 ();
  if (err  0)
fn0 ();
}
}
}

I believe if fn2 returns zero, then the for body will be run at least
once, but perhaps it isn't simplified as such early enough.

[Bug 1061037] Re: Using .xpm icons on desktop may draw huge icon

2013-05-05 Thread Jamin W. Collins
That's not a workaround, it merely side steps the issue and is
something that users will need to do for each and ever application that
uses an xpm icon.

Yes, converting the icon to png format results in a normal sized icon.
However, these very same xpm icons used to work fine. This is a
regression in behavior and functionality.

[Bug 1169984] Re: 3.8.0-18 HDMI audio regression: Either oops or opening device fails with -ENODEV

2013-05-05 Thread Mirto Silvio Busico
Hi all,
I'm commenting here because this bug is marked as duplicate of Bug #1173843

In my case the system was not able to halt nor was able to suspend (see
Bug #1173843). Then the problem disappeased.

But with the last update that installed kernel the problem is here
again: I cannot shutdown and power off the machine.

Uname says:
Linux msb03 3.8.0-19-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 1 16:35:23 UTC 2013 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Anyone is experiencing this behaviour?

[Bug 1158267] Re: broken (click-trhough) window decoration on some maximized windows

2013-05-05 Thread dhenry
This is quite annoying because if you have a titlebar-deffective window
on top of a maximized window which has a working title bar, the close
action will go to the later instead of the visible one... and you will
accidentally close the wrong window/application. It offen happens to me
with the web browser :-/

This issue has serious negative effects on user experience.

[Bug 1172755] Re: 13.04 Kernel Panic Not Syncing - Attempted to kill init - error code= 0x0000009

2013-05-05 Thread Javier Guerra
Fixed for my case.

the upstart init executable links to libjson.so.0, the libjson0 package
installs a libjson.so.0.1 in the 'trusted' directory /lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/ so far, so good. But i had a /usr/local/lib/libjson.so.0.0.1,
which is a lower number, but lddconfig creates a libjson.so.0 link in
both cases. When the initramfs finished and tried to execute init, it
loaded the wrong library and died.

to diagnose the problem, i added init=/bin/sh to the grub boot line,
so i get to a shell, where doing ldd /sbin/init showed the wrong
library. removing the /usr/local/lib/libjson.so.0 link was enough to
make it load.

I couldn't make ldconfig change the priority, so in the end i removed
the extra library.

[Bug 1176492] [NEW] Can't Rename File by Appending to Current File-Name (Missing Legend Variable for Current File Name)

2013-05-05 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
Public bug reported:

EasyTag cannot rename a file by appending to that file's current name,
because it is missing a Legend variable for current file name.

We need to add another Legend variable (perhaps %c) to represent the
file's current file-name (not including the file's extension of course).
If we had a variable such as this, we could rename files by appending
tag data to the current file name.

I have hundreds of files whose current names are date strings not
included in their tag info; I simply want to append the title (found
only in the tag) to the already existing file name. This is impossible,
however, because EasyTags Legend doesn't provide a variable to represent
the file's current name in a renaming mask. The only option it provides
would require me to lose that desired string, and replace it with
strings that are exclusively provided in the tags.

Without real VLC logs and/or valgrind trace, this bug report is

[Bug 1002187] Re: Skype won't start (segmentation fault)

2013-05-05 Thread Lastique
I just looked at my skype package version and it appears I already have
4.1.0.20.0-0ubuntu0.13.04.2. So because of missing Mesa GL libs this
version didn't fix the problem for me, and the fix I described in #48
applies to this version.

 I can't help thinking that you ask for trouble by installing the
driver directly from the nvidia site.

I realize the danger but still would like to try out new features in the
driver as it comes out. If there was a repo with the latest Nvidia
drivers I would use it, of course.

Regarding the driver package, I can see it doesn't conflict with libgl1
-mesa-glx, so you probably have both installed, which solves the problem
with skype. But again, I'm not sure that having two GL implementations
is safe, it did cause problems in my setup and Nvidia is probably
removing Mesa for a reason.

 Title:
   gedit automatically detected character encoding in open file dialog
   box

 Status in “gedit” package in Ubuntu:
   New

 Bug description:
   Hello,

   In gedit's open file dialog box, there is an option for choosing the
   character encoding. The default option is Automatically Detected
   which I am afraid it doesn't always work.

   I am attaching a file (gr.srt) with encoding (Greek) ISO-8859-7. I
 verified its encoding using the chardet utility in the terminal and I am
 also attaching chardet.png that shows exactly this. If you open this file
 (gr.srt) with gedit and encoding auto detection and you leave your mouse
 over the respective file's tab, a hint will appear reporting the Western
 ISO-8859-15 as the detected encoding. Of course as a result, the file's
 content is unreadable. (Attached geditWrong.png)

   If you open the same file by choosing (Greek) ISO-8859-7 in the open
 file dialog box, the respective hint properly shows the correct encoding
 and the file is readable. (Attached geditCorrect.png).

   Bear in mind that once you have opened the file with ISO-8859-7, it
   will always open correctly even if you choose Automatically
   Detected. It seems that gedit remembers your option and doesn't
   actually try to detect the actual encoding. In order to reset to the
   initial problematic behavior, you have to manually select (Western)
   ISO-8859-15 once. It seems to me that it is very probable that this is
   another issue but yet related and it will also help you to not get
   confused in your tests.

   Finally, I would like to grab this opportunity and ask you to add an
   encoding choice in gedit's menu because in the open file dialog, it is
   quite hidden in the sense that most people open files by double
   clicking them. I even found this option on the net, it didn't even
   cross my mind that such an option would be available there. Also, I
   have found quite many frustration reports on the Internet from people
   who use non Latin alphabets, I have even found a bug report that was
   closed because the reporter unfortunately failed to provide the
   required evidence and instructions.

   Thank you very much.

   P.S
   Since I am only allowed to attach one file, note that all files I have
 mentioned are included in geditEncoding.tar.gz
