[Bug 1185699] Re: libnss-ldap crashes in libc-2.17.so when using sudo/sshd
Of course it is possible to reproduce this on a clean 13.04 system. I did that in fact by installing a clean 13.04 system as a virtual machine and then just installing the libnss-ldap package together with our modified /etc/ldap.conf and /etc/nsswitch.conf. After doing so sudo immediately crashes. Regarding installing a local LDAP server, this is not possible in our case. We are using a public LDAP server of our institute which contains thousands of users and even more groups. In fact, I suspect the amount of users and groups to be one reason for the crash, but haven't verified/investigated that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libnss-ldap in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1185699 Title: libnss-ldap crashes in libc-2.17.so when using sudo/sshd To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libnss-ldap/+bug/1185699/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1134036] Re: Failure when using ssh with a locale that is not configured on the server
@Julian Do you have a ~/.cloud-locale-test.skip file present? If not, do you see a /etc/profile.d/Z99-cloud-locale-test.sh file? The warning is provided by cloud-init; I wonder what version provides it, and if we need to SRU it? What version of cloud-init do you have? I think the root cause is: 1. A user remote to the system has a different locale set that isn't configured on the system. This seems reasonable to me, and perhaps is going to become even more common that it is now. 2. This user uses ssh to install maas. 3. The postgresql-9.1 postinst fails with: Error: The locale requested by the environment is invalid. Error: could not create default cluster. Please create it manually with pg_createcluster 9.1 main --start or a similar command (see 'man pg_createcluster'). 4. The subsequent DB initialisation needed by maas fails. Solutions (one more added): 1) Tell the user to generate the locale, and do nothing else. 2) Switch the locale to C or C.UTF-8 (not sure which) so that at least things will work until the system locale is configured as required. 3) Require that everything functions correctly with an invalid locale set, including the postgresql-9.1 postinst. The second option would require a modification to cloud-init, so adding a task for that and for feedback. ** Also affects: cloud-init (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to maas in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1134036 Title: Failure when using ssh with a locale that is not configured on the server To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/1134036/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1134036] Re: Failure when using ssh with a locale that is not configured on the server
imo, this is either a bug in postgres because it fails to install when locale is set to invalid, or its user error. I'm not sure if whether or not it will become more or less common. More generally, there is a question of: is installing packages on ubuntu with an invalid locale a supported operation? If so, then postgres has a bug (as do some other packages). If not, then I'm not really sure what to do. Martin Pitt (postgres maintainer for ubuntu) clearly stated it is not when closing bug 969462 as 'Invalid' ** Description changed: If LC_ALL is not set (which seems to be the default on a few server installations I've done now), mid way through installing, you get this backtrace and then the installation just hangs. [Bug 1185908] Re: slapd: slapcat output truncated every now and then
Thanks James. Added SRU info in the description, will propose SRU merges as I have time to prepare and test them... ** Description changed: + SRU justification: + + [Impact] + + The slapd tools (slapcat, slapadd, et al) don't retry after failing to + acquire a BDB read lock, and on a busy LDAP server can sometimes return + incomplete data. This could result in data loss, for example when + slapcat is used to take a hot backup. + + Debian bug: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=673038 + OpenLDAP thread: http://www.openldap.org/lists/openldap-technical/201301/msg00195.html + OpenLDAP ITS: + - http://www.openldap.org/its/index.cgi?findid=6365 + - http://www.openldap.org/its/index.cgi?findid=7503 + + The impact is limited to slapd servers with a write load high enough to + generate lock contention. It's been present at least since 2.4.17 and + maybe longer, and at least some people got used to working around it, + e.g. [1], but not everyone is aware that the problem exists. + + The fix is minimal and has been tested in OpenLDAP upstream and Debian + wheezy. + + [1] https://github.com/elmar/ldap-git-backup/blob/master/README.mdown + #safe-ldif + + [Test Case] + + # apt-get install ldap-utils slapd + configure admin password + # ldapadd -D cn=admin,dc=nodomain -w adminpw end + dn: cn=test,dc=nodomain + objectClass: organizationalRole + objectClass: simpleSecurityObject + cn: test + userPassword: test + + end + # while true; do slapcat | wc -l; done + + and in another terminal... + + $ while true; do ldappasswd -H ldap:// -D cn=admin,dc=nodomain -w + adminpw cn=test,dc=nodomain; done + + In the first terminal, note that the output from wc is usually 41 but + sometimes smaller. It should be the same line count every time. + + [Regression Potential] + + The regression risk should be small. The change is minimal, was authored + by upstream, and has been accepted and released in Debian wheezy. I + admit to not being familiar enough with the code to comment in detail on + what regressions might be possible. If the fix were faulty wrt locking, + I would hope for it to turn up during verification since the test case + involves inducing a heavy write load on the server. + + original description: + Debian #673038 was fixed in wheezy but the fix has never been merged to Ubuntu. I verified the existence of this bug in precise, quantal, raring, and saucy using more or less the procedure from http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=673038#111: # apt-get install ldap-utils slapd configure admin password # ldapadd -D cn=admin,dc=nodomain -w adminpw end dn: cn=test,dc=nodomain objectClass: organizationalRole objectClass: simpleSecurityObject cn: test userPassword: test end # while true; do slapcat | wc -l; done and in another terminal... $ while true; do ldappasswd -H ldap:// -D cn=admin,dc=nodomain -w adminpw cn=test,dc=nodomain; done In the first terminal, note that the output from wc is usually 41 but sometimes smaller. Thank you for your report. This looks like a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in Ubuntu, so I'm marking this bug as Invalid. Developers or testers who want to do either should be able to do so in the Contributor Console. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ContributorConsole#updates -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1186376 Title: should support setting of whether or not to include phased updates To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-properties/+bug/1186376/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1185095] Re: Nautilus don't refresh
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1185095 Title: Nautilus don't refresh To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1185095/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1033229] Re: jk sending the activate of null to server (patch available)
Looking at the upstream bug report it's a one line fix. So instead of making a massive change like introducing 1.2.37, I think it's better to include the one-line patch in the 1.2.32 build. Besides winstone, jetty is also affected by this bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1033229 Title: jk sending the activate of null to server (patch available) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libapache-mod-jk/+bug/1033229/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
