[Bug 1208109] [NEW] frustrated ubuntu user
Public bug reported: I am trying to install ubuntu 11.10 over 12.10, because I absolutely hate the pgm disks in 12.10. It won't even format a thumb drive, and whatever I do in disks adversely affects the behavior of my hd, and in a way that I do not know how to undo. I lost 8 gigs of backup data using disks on a thumb drive. I have never complained before about ubuntu freeware, but I really do hate disks. It is apparently for very advanced users. A time-consuming learning curve is apparently necessary in order to properly use disks. I want a basic, intuitive disk utility that doesn't mess up either your thumb drive or your hd -- something that can do simple things like format a thumb drive without going to college, and without making the thumb drive unmountable. I am really pissed with disks. I have never before had trouble installing 11.10 over anything, but now it doesn't want to install over 12.10, perhaps because of something disks did to my hd? In my frustration with disks I had used an old OS X machine to format my thumb drive, and had it write a classic Mac boot partition, because I also have a classic Mac, which I was going to use to format the drive if all else failed. But after mounting the drive in ubuntu, ubuntu insisted that the thumb drive should be there at startup. After that, it took me three days to get disks to format the thumb drive, and I don't remember how I did it, but in the process I made a different thumb drive -- wirh 8 gigs of backup data -- unmountable. [Bug 1156314] Re: [Lenovo IdeaPad U300s] Trackpad detected as PS/2 Generic Mouse
Hi- Thanks for the suggestion. I don't know how/if I can apply the update, since I don't have windows installed and hadn't updated the BIOS prior to removing windows. This problem still persists, even though I've updated to RR 13.04, although with slightly different symptoms. The touchpad is detected as SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad (command: xinput list) even when it is frozen instead of PS/2 Generic. It seems like I can now *sometimes* solve the problem and can get the trackpad to work by putting the computer to sleep and waking it. However, on other occassions, shutting the computer down and restarting repeatedly doesn't do anything - and will sometimes even result in my not being able to use the keyboard and/or click with an external usb mouse (even though I can move the mouse with an external usb mouse). [Bug 1208109] Re: frustrated ubuntu user
Ubuntu 11.10 is no longer supported and probably doesn't recognise 12.10 because 12.10 is too new. They wouldn't fix the bug because of the 11.10 End of Life. If you don't like the 12.10 Disk Utility, you could downgrade to 12.04.2 LTS (which is still supported) and use the Disk Utility in that (which is the same version as in 11.10 (version 3.0.2)). I'm not sure it's the role of LXDE devs to validate every applications. If gnome-terminal authors or maintainers set OnlyShowIn=GNOME, I understand it as It's only work well under GNOME environment. [Bug 1165104] Re: oneconf is only showing the pc you are on in raring and isn't sharing to other machines
I too have this problem. I am very new to oneconf and thought I'd use it to migrate installed apps from my wife's old computer to her new one. After finding the problem described by this bug in the GUI, I thought I'd try the command line to link the two computers. Firstly, each computer seems to have its own oneconf inventory (using the same Ubuntu One login). If I execute: oneconf-query --list --hosts on each computer, it returns a single unique ID and the correct host name for that computer - I believe it should return both?? If I look at the One Google Account Apps information (https://login.ubuntu.com/+applications), I see both computers listed. However, I tried to execute the following on the old computer: kaye@kayes-old-computer:~$ oneconf-query --share-inventory --hostid=ID- of-new-computer and it threw an exception - see attached traceback. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1165104 Title: oneconf is only showing the pc you are on in raring and isn't sharing to other machines To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/oneconf/+bug/1165104/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
