[Bug 1216610] [NEW] Autofs mount fails if it relies on another autofs managed resource on Ubuntu; compile option missing
Public bug reported: I am trying to access an autofs mounted resource that depends on another autofs managed resource. I.e. I try to open a truecrypt container that is located on a samba fileshare. Both are registered with autofs and both are initially not mounted. When I try to access the truecrypt container it fails. The autofs log says no such file for the cifs container and does not try to mount the cifs resource automatically. If I manually mount the cifs fileshare (or try to accesss this prior to the truecrypt) it works. After some research and communication with the autofs maintainer (Ian Kent) I found out that in order for this to work autofs has to be configured with the configure option --disable-mount-locking is used. Currently, autofs_5.0.7-3ubuntu1.dsc does not use this option. I contacted the autofs maintainer and he confirmed that --disable-mount-locking should be used in the configure. He believes that using this option causes no side effects and solves the issue I experience. [Bug 1011658] Re: 9710:7830 nvidia networking not working
Michal Suchanek, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11-rc6 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. [Bug 217300]
(In reply to Justin Dolske [:Dolske] from comment #117) Investing time is always a tradeoff. I have a long list of projects to dramatically improve Firefox for users, and unfortunately the feature this bug about ranks poorly against that list. The number of users using a master password and linux is relatively tiny, and there are number hurdles to even making this a feature suitable to ship (see Brain's previous posts for a few). That's why an add-on is the right route to take. You made a wrong assumption. This feature is not only for master password users. I don't use it be cause it is stupid. I have a session password on my OS, and I expect it to protect everything else. I don't want to have thousands of passwords to manually keep in a text file or a third party keayring software. The master password and the lack of native keyring support are 2 reasons leading me to switch to Chrome on all of my non-home or mobile devices. On my Ubuntu home desktop, I tried to use an encrypted home dir, but FF is using I/O too much, so it was too slow and laggy. The most secure is my MacBook Pro whose disk is fully encrypted and whose web browser (Chrome) is using keyring. Using the keyring is exactly what I expect from ANY application, thus Firefox, that need a secret key to protect data without pissing me off with one more password. This is a seamless solution for every non- technical, IT-ignorant user. Those user are not using master password, so keyring would be a great solution to add protection without increasing complexity. I know that there is some technical challenges to add keyring stuff to FF, but whining is not a solution, and believing there is more important UX stuff to do before is an error. This is a security concern, perhaps the #1 security concern in FF. Or if you prefer being troll-flammed by newpapers (http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2013/aug/07/google- chrome-password-security-flaw)... I have not the C/C++ skills and the FF code base knowledge to help you so I can only encourage you and critisize reluctant attitudes that are legions in Mozilla organization (and sometime at a high hierarchy level... I had a bad experience with Tristant Nitot leading a big French bank switching from IE6 to IE8 instead of FF). Please get into the future with implementing the keyring. [Bug 1210499] Re: Fresh backup started rather than current backup resumed, backups never complete
Thinking a little more about what I've been able to observe, I suspect that deja-dup is launching a fresh duplicity backup while the previous one is still running due to some sort of lock fail, or assumption that the former job couldn't possibly still be running. This new process cleans up, removing the partially completed backup and files required by the first instance, cause the first instance to abort when it tries to access these resources. deja-dup doesn't notice because it is dealing with the new duplicity job and couldn't care less about what is happening with the first instance. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1210499 Title: Fresh backup started rather than current backup resumed, backups never complete To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/deja-dup/+bug/1210499/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1216512] [NEW] No sound/low sound in Ubuntu 13.04
Public bug reported: I have recently installed Ubuntu 13.04 alongside Windows XP on my PC. The problem that I am facing is with sound. First, I will tell about the Hardware (sound card and ports). This is the Sound/Audio drivers info: (Azalia) Integrated High Definition audio Realtek ALC 880 chipset Supports up to 8 audio channels Dolby Pro Logic II compatible Dolby 5.1 There are 3 ports in the front and 6 at the back, of which only two are for Audio output (3.5mm jacks). One at the front and the other at the back. I have tried both of them, by connecting my Speakers/Earphones but from my understanding, the front one does not give out sound at all, whereas the one at the back gives out sound at a very low volume. I have tried Alsamixer and all sound settings, but none help. The kernel is 8.8.0-27-generic. I have also tried 8.9.0-rc8 but it did not solve any problems, and gave me another set of problems. [Bug 1012773] Re: Remounting external Hard drive
Peter Kennes, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11-rc5 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. [Bug 411358]
Hi, Thanks mainly to Jonathan and jhorak work, I've come to find an easy solution to manage this problem without patching/recompiling anything. We just need to intercept the gconf_client_get_string call using LD_PRELOAD to make it answer nicely on a search containing a '+' symbol. You will find an example how to do it at http://git.auf.org/?p=auf- poste-client.git;a=tree;f=lucid/auf-thunderbird-hack This example is very specific to Ubuntu “Lucid Lynx” 10.04 LTS, because it is our current concern for now. But it's only about 20 lines of code so it should be easy to adapt to any other context. Thanks to everyone for their comments here, which allowed me to manage this problem quite fast, in about half a day! [Bug 41179]
So now you're encouraging people to file a duplicate bug report. I wasn't aware the policy had changed. And take notice, anyone that happens across this page and is interested, in the complete lack of a response to the fact that no one was ever assigned to this bug, not from day one, even when the bug was confirmed. This is not the first Ubuntu bug I've seen where it gets filed, confirmed, ignored, then they come back later and say, Does it work now? And the bug filer responds with, No, gives relevant information, then the bug is ignored, until sometime later they come back and say, Does it work now? without ever having anyone assigned to the bug. And so on and so on until the bug filer gets rather tired of the whole thing and just goes away, just like they were hoping for in the first place.
