[Bug 1096079] Re: boot fails when a mount is a dangling symlink

2013-09-14 Thread Steve Langasek
Looking over this bug, I don't think there's anything we can do here to
improve mountall's handling without compromising the guarantee of a
consistent, race-free boot. We simply have no way of knowing that this
particular tmpfs mount is not required for boot unless the admin marks
it so in the /etc/fstab (with the 'nobootwait' option). And we can't
reliably interact with the user on console until after the virtual-
filesystems event is sent, because this is a prerequisite for udev, and
udev needs to poke the hardware to make sure we wind up with the right
console drivers. So the system is at an impasse.

I certainly agree that we don't want to leave the machine deadlocked
with no output on the screen; but architecturally, I just don't see a
way to address this corner case without introducing substantial bugs in
more common scenarios.

[Bug 691588] Re: boot hangs with two fstab entries that reference the same UUID

2013-09-14 Thread Steve Langasek
Testing here, I see the correct behavior: mountall tries to process both
mount entries, can't do so because one of the two filesystem types is
wrong for the device, and sends an error prompt to plymouth. If you are
seeing a hang instead of an error prompt, you may have plymouth
misconfigured, or you may be affected by bug #540645.

[Bug 1096079] Re: boot fails when a tmpfs can't be mounted due to a dangling symlink

2013-09-14 Thread Steve Langasek
I'm still going back and forth on this. There's also bug #1152274,
which I'm marking as a duplicate. We really should do something better
here, I'm just not sure what.

FWIW, printing messages to the console just got harder, because mountall
has just been changed to log to /var/log/upstart instead of being bound
to the console at all. Maybe we need to revisit that decision.

- boot fails when a mount is a dangling symlink

[Bug 1225140] Re: --help output references wrong executable name

2013-09-14 Thread Andrea Corbellini
Here I see two issues:

1. /usr/bin/coverage is not installed;
2. --help output references wrong executable name.

The first should be fixed in the Debian/Ubuntu packaging. The latter
should be fixed upstream.

[Bug 1063354] Re: Sudden Read-Only Filesystems

2013-09-14 Thread adam
I currently dedicate a second Hard Drive to VirtualBox (1. I have a LOT
of VM's, 2. I can use my primary HDD at full speed at the same time I am
running a VM ) which runs Ext4 and this Read-Only bug only occurs when I
run a specific VM. The VM is Windows XP Home Edition SP3 and every time
I boot into it, the guest OS starts to give me Delayed Write Failed
Errors and at the same time I lose write access to the partition.
Haven't discovered any data loss nor does this VM contain any important
data, annoying though. Am running the 3.5.0-17 kernel.

I've tried the solution suggested by randnotiz (Modifying

Sadly the issue still remains (Only able to suspend once/power off does
not work after one suspend)

[Bug 1225321] [NEW] Add-on remains enabled after the disable button is pressed

2013-09-14 Thread jeremy-list
Public bug reported:

To replicate:
1: In Firefox, open Tools-Add-ons-extensions
2: Press the Disable button on one of the add-ons
3: Click Restart now when it appears
What I expect to happen:
Firefox should restart with the add-on disabled
What happens instead:
Firefox restarts but the add-on is still not disabled. If I open the Add-ons
manager again it still says add-on name will be disabled after you restart
Firefox with 2 links saying Restart now and Undo. No ammount of restarting
will actually disable the add-on.

[Bug 1225332] [NEW] [Apple Inc. MacBookPro10, 1] late resume failure [non-free: wl]

2013-09-14 Thread Damien De Paoli
Public bug reported:

just installed saucy daily from Sep 13th (Australian time)

$ ls -l Downloads/saucy-desktop-amd64.iso
-rw-rw-r-- 1 ddp ddp 873M Sep 13 23:27 Downloads/saucy-desktop-amd64.iso

just closed the lid, and machine seemed to hang - I could hear the fan,
but could not get a response out of any key combo (caps lock, ctrl-alt-
backspace, ctrl-alt-del, ctrl-alt-F1, etc.

Ended up hard powering off and then this bug report on restart...

BTW, I using lxde with cairo-dock, and since resume, the cairo-dock is
running but is not visible -- not sure why as yet, but in case its of
some use...

[Bug 1225327] [NEW] sftp in 12.04 has tty attributes setting problem

2013-09-14 Thread wzis
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, when doing following:
1. stty -echo
2. sftp user@server
3. key in pass as required.
4. cd /tmp
5. bye
6. stty -a

By right, the contents entered in step 4-6 shouldn't be visible, but they do on
12.04.
Found the same issue on RHEL 6.x. But sftp on Solaris/AIX/HP-UX and RHEL 5.x do
not have this issue.

[Bug 183456] Re: Trying to load a sf2 file with asfxload returns sfxload: no memory left

2013-09-14 Thread Harald Judt
I have tried the small 2L change by Thomas Richter and it works fine,
no negative side effects so far. Apparently, the 4GB barrier was a bit
of an arbitrary value anyway, you can read about that here:
https://lwn.net/Articles/152337/

I found the memmap=2048M\\$6144M workaround proposed on http://www
.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Module-emu10k1 rather
ridiculous, even if it doesn't require patching.

With Thomas' simple fix making it rather easy for us to solve our
problem, let's hope the kernel devs won't change the MAX_DMA32_PFN code
too soon so that it doesn't apply anymore. Because I do not believe they
will care about 1 or 2 pieces of hardware that will eventually fade into
history on all new non-PCI systems... Still, isn't it quite an
achievement that we can still use a soundcard that has been released
ages ago?

BTW: The changes no longer have to be done in arch/x86/include/asm.h but
in arch/x86/include/asm/dma.h for recent kernels.

[Bug 1213119] Re: You need to load the kernel first when trying to select any option from grub list when using EFI ver 1.1 rev 2 and trying to install Ubuntu.

2013-09-14 Thread Shaun Turnbull
On GA A75 UD4H;
Using Saucy image to go for install with EFI off detects a mac partiton table!
Using Raring image to go for install putting boot loader to existing ESP
installed grub.efi.signed bootloader!
This is more indicative of boot manager and boot loader bugs and/or
deficiencies.

How to install Ubuntu on a pre UEFI 2.3.1 system?

Am looking at EFI stub loader to install using EFI. To be continued...

[Bug 1217110] Re: pinentry-qt4 crashed with SIGSEGV in QString::indexOf()

2013-09-14 Thread Sebastian Fleer
This bug also makes Thunderbird Enigmail unusable in a KDE/QT
environment:

Error - signature verification failed
gpg command line and output:
gpg
gpg: problem with the agent - disabling agent use

switching to pinentry-gtk2 or removing ibus-qt4 works for me.
