[Bug 1228490] Re: Havana novncproxy requires a newer version of websockify

2013-09-21 Thread gdahlman
I built the 0.5.1 package from the upstream git repo, it works fine and
resolves the issue

I have uploaded a test version to my PPA

https://launchpad.net/~gdahlman/+archive/havana

The upstream source was pulled from
git://anonscm.debian.org/openstack/websockify.git

Outside of making changes to debian/changelog to make it acceptable for
dput it required no changes.

[Bug 1228459] Re: Item #1 states wrong side for icon

As far as I can determine, it is not a bug. If you click on that small
far right icon of the menu bar, then another menu will open. One option
on that menu is system settings.

[Bug 1069331] Re: [ASRock Z77 Extreme4, Realtek ALC898, Green Headphone Out, Front] Underruns, dropouts or crackling sound

2013-09-21 Thread Carlos Fornieles Montoya
Hi,

Actually I can no longer reproduce this issue. When I started
experiencing this I started using another soundcard instead of the
motherboard one. I upgraded the box to Quantal and I've been trying to
reproduce this since then and I've been unable to, hence this must have
been fixed at some point, presumably when I upgraded to Quantal.

Cheers,

Carlos

Re: [Bug 1226200] Re: Install/upgrade failure when numix-gtk-theme PPA package present

On Fri, Sep 20, 2013 at 6:38 PM, Pasi Lallinaho p...@shimmerproject.org wrote:
If somebody wants to package a single theme separately (which might be
up for discussion with the Shimmer packages as well), they are free to
do so, but it's their responsibility to take care it's not in conflict
with packages in the official repositories, eg. install in a different
 directory.

That's all fine I suppose, but my main concern is that a non-trivial
number of user will have issues upgrading to saucy because of this.
Numix is a fairly popular theme. A small part of the reason for this
popularity is that the upstream project has made it easy for Ubuntu
users to install via a PPA. AFAICT, shimmer-themes added Numix during
saucy's development. You make it sound as if people started packaging
it separately at some point after it was included in shimmer-themes,
while in reality it has been available as a standalone package for
sometime in the upstream's PPA. Normally, I agrees that it is a PPA's
owner's responsibility to take care [their packages are] not in
conflict with packages in the official repositories, but it is also
the responsibility of the distro packager to work with the upstream.

[Bug 1228490] Re: Havana novncproxy requires a newer version of websockify

2013-09-21 Thread gdahlman
I built the 0.5.1 package from the upstream git repo, it works fine and
resolves the issue

I have uploaded a test version to my PPA

https://launchpad.net/~gdahlman/+archive/havana

The upstream source was pulled from
git://anonscm.debian.org/openstack/websockify.git

Outside of making changes to debian/changelog to make it acceptable for
dput it required no changes.

[Bug 1226200] Re: Install/upgrade failure when numix-gtk-theme PPA package present

2013-09-21 Thread Simon Steinbeiß
Hi Andrew,
first of all, Satya (the author of the Numix theme, or one of them) is a part
of the Shimmer Project, so we'll obviously resolve this issue together, but not
in the Ubuntu package, but in the PPA.
Furthermore, PPAs are disabled by default on upgrading from e.g. 13.04 to
13.10, so this is not an issue.

[Bug 968533] Re: Alt-tab to Firefox sends Firefox to 100% CPU; unity-panel-service to 80% CPU and hud-service to 20-80% CPU

2013-09-21 Thread kapetr
The problem may be more difficult.

The high load - when switching between apps with Alt-Tab appears randomly.
The amount of FF bookmarks in my case is high but do not changing much. Most
time I have no problems while running FF and switching to another apps -
windows with Alt-Tab.
But sometimes happens, that high load (100% on both cores - for many seconds)
occurs and stays until I kill FF and log out-in.

If it would be caused by bookmarks - then it should happen all time -
the same way. Not just occasionally.

[Bug 1228507] [NEW] Cannot move certain windows via the top half of the titlebar in Ubuntu 13.10

2013-09-21 Thread Rocko
Public bug reported:

If I click and hold the mouse button down on the top-half of the
titlebar of certain smaller windows (eg update-manager and nautilus'
file copy window) in Ubuntu 13.10, the window gets the focus but does
not move when you drag the mouse. I have to click on the bottom half of
these windows to move them.

This is not the case with all windows - eg gnome-terminal doesn't seem
to have the problem, no matter how small I make it.

Note that if I expand the details panel of update-manager's window,
drag-to-move now *does* work.

To reproduce:

1. Run update-manager but do not expand on the details panel.
2. Try to move the window by clicking and holding on the top half of the
titlebar. It should move, but doesn't.
3. Try to move the window by clicking and holding on the bottom half of the
titlebar. It should move as expected.

[Bug 1228506] [NEW] Frequent display artifacts, take 2

2013-09-21 Thread Marius-andreiana
Public bug reported:

Symptoms are the same as in bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-system-compositor/+bug/1221399
For example, see attached photo, replicable 100% just by moving the mouse fast.

In bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/xmir/+bug/1218735 I was told to fill a
new bug.

Note that this Thinkpad has two video cards. I don't know how to tell if
Intel or Nvidia is being used. I'm using the default saucy install, no
additional drivers.

[Bug 1184451] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze while Normal OS activites

2013-09-21 Thread Pierre-Luc Gagnon
Update: I downgraded back to 13.04 and the problem vanished, thus
confirming that one of the upgraded packages is causing it. However, I
am still running the 3.11.0-7-generic kernel, so it's something else.

One way to uncover the culprit would be to update to 13.10 incrementally
just a few packages at a time and see which one brings back the freezes.
I don't have much time these next few days but if somebody could try it,
it would save all of us a lot of pain (really can't work like this). I
will have a go at it next week. I don't see any other solution unless
someone finally finds an error message in a log somewhere.

Quite a few packages in Kubuntu currently have URLs in their
descriptions (in the default install, the first package I can find like
this is adduser, which has two).

Having to copy+paste the link is a bit tedious. Could they be done as
clickable links instead? This would be similar to how Kmail makes links
in emails clickable.

Clicking would open in Konqueror, or whatever the user's has their
default browser set to.

Would be very useful a option to save the packages that are selected to be
installed. And that would be possible save this list before to proceed with the
install stage, because too many times, adept exit unsuccessful when it's
downloading the pachage to install, and one lost a lot of time in start all
again (and sometimes forgetting some packages in the selection process).
Greetings!

Not a priority here, sorry. Adept 3 should be *much* more robust, so the
need is likely to diminish as well. It won't be utterly hard to
implement either, for a possible volunteer. Look at adept/packagedata.h
-- we store an ActionList there, you would need to serialize that. The
implementation resides under ept/core/apt/action.h.

Version:(using KDE KDE 3.5.2)

Upgraded Kubuntu to Dapper from Breezy by changing Breezy to Dapper in
sources.list and running Adept to fetch and upgrade everything.
Unfortunately the disk went full (more than 2 gigs in /var/cache/apt). X
was then not properly installed leaving me at the command prompt and
struggling for 2 days to find out what was the problem and how to solve
it. (I was finally able to enter the shell as root, and thus found were
the big files were) I used apt to clean the cache (apt-get clean)

I suggest
1) If during the process of installation Adept sees the disk getting full it
should ask the user what to do, possibly reinstalling the old programs.
2) Adept should warn when the \var\apt\cache gets above a certain size, and
offer the opprtunity to reduce the cache by removing the oldest entries.
Eventually you could configure it to never use more than X% of free space for
cache.

The good news is that I got a proper disk full warning and a graceful
exit when trying to Upgrade from Edgy to Feisty yesterday (2007-09-27).
So it looks like the Distribution Upgrade part of Adept is fixed.

The bad news is that I still had a very similar problem to the one
described in this Bug with a regular Update (not an Upgrade) in Edgy. I
had not connected Kubuntu to the Internet in a while. When I connected
it again, Adept found a large number of packages requiring an Update. It
crashed and exited with a confusing error message before updating the
Linux Kernel Headers to 2.6.17-12, though (sorry, I should have written
down exactly what the error message was). I realized that I was probably
low on disk space, but the error message did not say that clearly
enough. Everything seemed to be OK for the rest of that session. But
after restarting, all I got was the Login screen -- after entering any
valid User ID and Password, the Kubuntu Desktop would not load, only the
Login screen would return. It did not matter what options I selected in
the Login screen.

I restarted again, and got into Recovery Mode from the GRUB menu. From
the Root command prompt, tried to run APT-GET UPDATE, then APT-GET
REMOVE WINE to try to make room by removing the WINE package that I was
no longer using. I got an error message suggesting that I run APT-GET -f
-CLEAN. This time, I got an error message saying, in effect, no room to
install Linux Kernel Headers to 2.6.17-12.

I rebooted from a Live CD and used a Partition Editor to make the main
Linux (/) partition larger. Rebooted again, went back into GRUB
Recovery Mode, and ran APT-GET -f -CLEAN again. This time it worked OK.
After rebooting once more, I was finally able to log back into the
Kubuntu Desktop.

If Adept had only warned me that disk space was too low before trying to
install the Linux Kernel Headers, I may have been able to save a lot of
time.

Anyway, after I got my Desktop back, I tried to do the suggested
Distribution Upgrade to Feisty, and got a proper error message about low
disk space (I still didn't have the over 600 MB that this upgrade would
have required). And I still have a working Edgy system.

So the Distribution Upgrade part of Adept handled low disk space
properly in Edgy, but the regular Update did not.

I've just noticed that the Severity of this bug is rated as Wishlist. To me,
it was as bad as a Crash, because Adept did not exit with the proper error, and
the system was effectively stuck at the Login stage after restart. I spent a
lot more time recovering from this issue than I would have expected with a
merely Wishlist item. I would like to ask that this Bug's severity be
upgraded. Thanks in advance for your help.

2013-09-21 Thread Dirk Kraft
To work around in the second bug mentioned in my last message I applied
the patch mentioned here http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/dri-
devel/2013-August/042668.html to the versions that would not compile
properly.

With this change (where necessary) I was able to fully bisect the
problem. The output is:

2fdac010bdcf10a30711b6924612dfc40daf19b8 is the first bad commit

[Bug 1212455] Re: 8086:2562 Flash 11.2 content displays in shades of green and purple only, and in a horizontally compressed space

2013-09-21 Thread sudodus
Going back to the bug description:

...
WORKAROUND: Setting the Intel driver's acceleration method to UXA rather than
its default SNA *always* fixes the Flash problem, but causes a garbled login
screen under LightDM that so far has no workaround.
...

This 'UXA' workaround makes the graphics rendering work in my old IBM
Thinkcentre with old Intel graphics.

But the current daily build does not solve my problem. There has never
been a garbled screen in my case, only the ugly rendering, and it is
still there, maybe there are only 256 colours. Even Lubuntu's default
background picture looks bad. I guess this old Intel chip will need UXA
also in the future.

Note that the virtualbox package needs to be upgraded to upstream version

AFAIK, that's in debian and, in order to solve this problem, it needs to be
synchronized from them into ubuntu.

looks odd - might try that on my Galaxy Nexus Andriod 4.2 and see that
it looks like.

[Bug 1111397] Re: Executable files do not launch in 13.04

2013-09-21 Thread jaromil
We should pay attention to this indeed.

This is a radical change for many users acquainted to execute shell scripts or
having them written by friends to fix things.
Believe me, this happens *all the time*.

Changing this behavior without any notice is irresponsible, a very
conservative step that disempower users.

At the very least, on the first execution of a shell script this way, a dialog
should pop-up asking about the user's intention:
- do not execute
- execute this shell script once and ask again next time
- execute any shell script (and/or open preferences)

Ideally there could be a per-script configuration that can be tuned this
way on first execution.

MATE desktop suffers from same problem. Please include that in the fix

The OpenJDK code is quite messy in this location, so it basically
handles window managers on a case-by-case basis.

[Bug 1228538] [NEW] 3-finger touch to show grab handles does not work

2013-09-21 Thread Till Kamppeter
Public bug reported:

I am using the Lenovo Thinkpad Twist, a convertible with touch screen,
Saucy with Unity desktop. All 3- and 4-finger gestures described on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Multitouch#Supported_Gestures work on the touch
screen, except showing the grab handles by a three-finger tap onto the
window. Strange is that the problem only occures for my primary user
account, not for the guest account. In the guest account the handles
appear correctly.

[Bug 1225327] Re: sftp in 12.04 has tty attributes setting problem

2013-09-21 Thread wzis
Based on Dtucker's debugging and tests, it seems to me when libedit is used,
openssh is unable to control the tty settings based on its own needs, so with
that in mind, and also the fact sftp on other UNIX or RHEL 5.x has no such
problem and no other critical issue caused by not using libedit, the openssh
should be packaged without using libedit.
Wondering why in the first place, the libedit is included in the configure.

[Bug 1227941] Re: GMail App - css does not get applied to the Mail App

2013-09-21 Thread kylea
BTW to update this file I mounted the Nexus 4 on my Ubuntu Desktop -
copied the file to my desktop and added the extra values and then copied
it back to Documents folder

To actually update the file I mounted the phones filesystem as RW

mount -n -o remount,rw /

then copied the file to the path /usr/lib/arm-linux-
gnueabihf/qt5/qml/Ubuntu/Components/Extras/Browser/ua-overrides.js
