[Bug 1228635] [NEW] Background for screen 1 is different from screen 0
Public bug reported: When using dual screens, the first login will set the two screens to "the same as" or one on top of the other and use the same backdrop for both. Because xfce draws them in order the old backdrop will be the one that ends up showing on both screens. Both screen 0 and screen 1 should be set to the same backdrop. Summary: Adept Manager has problems installing software that displays license agreements through the console since they require the user to hit OK or accept them (such as sun-java5-jdk 1.5.0-08-0ubuntu1) which isn't possible to limited console accessibility. Explanation: When I tried to install Sun's Java 5 JDK 1.5.0-08-0ubunutu1 I ran into a problem where the installation would hang. Clicking "Show Details" button next to the progress bar revealed that a license agreement from Sun had to be approved before continuing. This message was cleary being displayed to the console but I had no way of selecting OK. I had to close the program and leave the installation midway through. (Sidenote: This caused Adept to act strange since apparently the app was still busy, even after a reboot. "dpkg --configure -a" and "apt-get update" fixed this. Also, I couldn't remove the partial installation, so I ended up just installing (apt-get install) to finish it up.) Work-around: I did the update/install from Konsole, agreed to the license, agreed to some other dialog, and everything turned out OK. Some more access to the console is needed. I can't modify this bug's status/classification or see it. This is more than a "wishlist" bug and it's a problem for all versions I'd assume, so please change this bug's status or make this its own bug. [Bug 1228161] Re: Graphics Adaptor Change fails then works then fails then ...
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Depending on how you look at it, this may or may not be considered a bug. The problem developed immediately after replacing my graphics adaptor because upgrading to Ubuntu 13.04 failed stating there was a problem with my video. What happens is a bit strange because the problem is self correcting but fails after restarting for reasons that are unclear - to me at least. I think perhaps the system recognizes that it is having problems when it first comes up and then cycles through alternative configurations until it finds one that works; and when I say works, it works perfectly. The scenario is as follows: 1. I start the day by booting up the cold system. It comes up with a screen that though largely correct, is rapidly fluttering back and forth, but no so badly that I can't log in. However logging in then brings up a blank gray screen that is also rapidly fluttering. 2. I then toggle my monitor, keyboard and mouse to my MS Windows 8 box and check email, the news, etc., and after awhile switch back to my fluttering Ubuntu box, still with a fluttering blank gray screen. I then do a hardware reset and switch back to my MS Windows Box and browse the news more in depth this time. Finally after awhile, I switch back to my Ubuntu box and find the screen now is no longer fluttering with my login screen. I login and everything continues to work perfectly. 3. The next day, I start at step 1 again because try as I might, I can't find out how to save the working configuration. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. If any additional information is needed, let me know and I'll provide it as needed. [Bug 1159690] Re: [Fujitsu LIFEBOOK AH532] Toggle Wireless (Fn F5) doesn't work with 13.04
The mainline kernel http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/v3.12-rc1-saucy/ is still affected. ** Tags added: precise running-unity ** Description changed: "Fn F5" should toggle wireless on Fujitsu Lifebook AH532 and LED indicator should be on/off accordingly. Nothing happens when I press "Fn F5" with the newest Ubuntu 13.04 amd64 and the Wireless LED indicator is always off. It works fine in Ubuntu 12.04.2 (with 3.5.0 kernel). I am attaching the list of Fn buttons for Fujitsu Lifebook A532/AH532. Note that all other buttons except "Fn F11" (ECO) (not tested) and "Fn Pause" (SysRq) work fine. "Fn Pause" behaves the same as Fn Delete (Prt Scr) - it takes screenshot. [Bug 1224221] Re: Problem with Sleep/Wake in Ubuntu 13.04 and greater
** Description changed: I am using a nVidia Graphics with default drivers and I am unable to wake up my system without it being crashed with garbage on the screen. This happens in LiveCD mode or installed and all versions of Kubuntu/Ubuntu/Gbunutu that I have tested, all of them are the same result. This has stopped moving to Linux when I need it most (Windows 8/8.1 is terrible) I had reported that I thought it was due to dual graphics (Switchable) but I've disabled the intel graphics in BIOS and the problem persisted. I think this is a Kernel level problem or perhaps xOrg related. I can offer no other information as the only thing I can do is reboot the system and disable sleep entirely. - I don't think my system could be the only one getting this problem, so hopefully someone with more experience in reporting bugs can figure this out so that the final 13.10 will work for me :( - --- + WORKAROUND: + # Be root + sudo su + + # Edit this file + vim /etc/pm/sleep.d/05_xhci + + Here is the content of this file + + #!/bin/sh + # Fix some issues with USB3 + + if [ "$1" = "suspend" ] + then + modprobe -r xhci_hcd + fi + + if [ "$1" = "resume" ] + then + modprobe xhci_hcd + fi + --- + + # Change access right (not sure it's necessary) + chmod 755 /etc/pm/sleep.d/05_xhci + + --- ApportVersion: 2.9.2-0ubuntu8 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: - USERPID ACCESS COMMAND - /dev/snd/controlC0: ubuntu 6220 F pulseaudio + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: ubuntu 6220 F pulseaudio CasperVersion: 1.331 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04 LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 13.04 "Raring Ringtail" - Release amd64 (20130424) MachineType: System manufacturer System Product Name MarkForUpload: True Package: linux (not installed) ProcEnviron: - TERM=xterm - PATH=(custom, no user) - XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= - LANG= - SHELL=/bin/bash + TERM=xterm + PATH=(custom, no user) + XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= + LANG= + SHELL=/bin/bash ProcFB: 0 nouveaufb ProcKernelCmdLine: bootkbd=us console-setup/layoutcode=en_US console-setup/variantcode=nodeadkeys locale=us_us persistent noprompt cdrom-detect/try-usb=true file=/cdrom/preseed/username.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd.lz splash -- ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-19.29-generic 3.8.8 RelatedPackageVersions: - linux-restricted-modules-3.8.0-19-generic N/A - linux-backports-modules-3.8.0-19-generic N/A - linux-firmware1.106 + linux-restricted-modules-3.8.0-19-generic N/A + linux-backports-modules-3.8.0-19-generic N/A + linux-firmware1.106 RfKill: - 0: phy0: Wireless LAN - Soft blocked: no - Hard blocked: no + 0: phy0: Wireless LAN + Soft blocked: no + Hard blocked: no Tags: raring Uname: Linux 3.8.0-19-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo dmi.bios.date: 11/09/2012 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: 3603 dmi.board.asset.tag: To be filled by O.E.M. dmi.board.name: MAXIMUS IV GENE-Z/GEN3 dmi.board.vendor: ASUSTeK Computer INC. dmi.board.version: Rev 1.xx dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Asset-1234567890 dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.chassis.vendor: Chassis Manufacture dmi.chassis.version: Chassis Version dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr3603:bd11/09/2012:svnSystemmanufacturer:pnSystemProductName:pvrSystemVersion:rvnASUSTeKComputerINC.:rnMAXIMUSIVGENE-Z/GEN3:rvrRev1.xx:cvnChassisManufacture:ct3:cvrChassisVersion: dmi.product.name: System Product Name dmi.product.version: System Version dmi.sys.vendor: System manufacturer -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1224221 Title: Problem with Sleep/Wake in Ubuntu 13.04 and greater To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1224221/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 957486] Re: Cannot change a local user's password when sssd is enabled
I changed common-password to be identical to what it is on another machine that doesn't have sssd installed, and everything works now. [Bug 1062077] Re: [HP TouchSmart tm2-2010eg] Linux hangs with: "[drm:atom_op_jump] *ERROR* atombios stuck in loop for more than 5secs aborting"
Simon K, would disabling the discrete graphics card in BIOS be an additional available method? As well, given the issue appears to be identified with vgaswitcheroo not quite being free of causing collatoral damage, and you have what appears to be an acceptable alternative to disabling your graphics card, would you like to pursue a fix for this, or would disabling the garphics card via upstart-job be considered a solution? ** Tags removed: regression-potential ** Tags added: regression-release -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1062077 Title: [HP TouchSmart tm2-2010eg] Linux hangs with: "[drm:atom_op_jump] *ERROR* atombios stuck in loop for more than 5secs aborting" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1062077/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This bug was fixed in the package viewmol - 2.4.1-20 Sponsored for Graham Inggs (ginggs) --- viewmol (2.4.1-20) unstable; urgency=low * Use dh_quilt_patch instead of the xsfbs scripts. * Allow viewmol to launch from the Gnome menus: Remove Path=$HOME from viewmol.desktop, since Gnome cannot handle environment variables ($HOME). Applied to patch 110_desktop_app.diff. Closes: #709304. * Build against libmotif-dev not lesstif2-dev. Closes: #714671. * Don't need libxp-dev Build-Depends (Xprint is not actually used). Closes: #623665. * Lintian fixes: - add build-arch, build-indep to debian/rules. - leave binary hardening unhandled for now: viewmol has an inconvenient build system in the form of source/getmachine * Standards-Version: 3.9.4 -- Drew Parsons Sat, 21 Sep 2013 13:20:52 +1000 ** Changed in: viewmol (Ubuntu) Status: New => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1228551 Title: Sync viewmol 2.4.1-20 (universe) from Debian unstable (main) Lesstif2motif transition, please see LP: #1222747. [Bug 1207589]
Michael, As far as I can tell so far, this is the issue: Your text editor probably realizes the text file is compressed and uncompresses it on the fly. This is an issue where KTorrent is handed a compressed file, and doesn't realize its compressed and tries to use it as-is. Leading to garbage input, which makes KTorrent think there's nothing valid. What SHOULD happen is KTorrent realizes its compressed, passes it through the unzip de-compression utility. And then gets handed back the uncompressed version of the text file, which is valid input and everyone's happen. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1207589 Title: ktorrent fails to unzip peerguardian filter file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ktorrent/+bug/1207589/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1207589]
KTorrent 4.3.1, Kubuntu 13.04, KDE 4.11.1, x64 I'm not sure I understand why the error message differs from what I'm seeing, and what I'm noticing is different from Phr33d0m's original post. If I go into KTorrent's Settings -> IP Filter, and enable the "Use PeerGuardian filter", click the "Download/Convert" button, I get this familiar message: "There are no IP addresses to convert in /home/user/.kde/share/apps/ktorrent/level1.txt" However, if leave that error message visible and open the level1.txt file, I see a text file with 235,295 lines, and they seem valid, like: SMSHoax FakeAV Fraud Trojan:1.179.144.98-1.179.144.98 Detected AP2P on TOT Public Co. proxy:1.179.147.2-1.179.147.2 Detected AP2P on ChinaNet Beijing proxy:1.202.96.52-1.202.96.52 So there does appear to be IP addresses in it, in contrast to the message. After I click to dismiss the "error message", the level1.txt file gets deleted. This is the URL for the IP filter file: http://list.iblocklist.com/?list=bt_level1&fileformat=p2p&archiveformat=gz So the error message doesn't seem to match what I'm seeing. [Bug 1224229] Re: Suggest to use axel instead of wget in apt-get
APT isn't using wget, it uses its own http (1.1) client implementation to be able to use advanced flags in the request wget and co do not support (as they are not intended to be used in this way) and potentially supports features like pipelining (currently disabled by default though as some dumb mirrors boggle with it). The "fast" thing about those downloadmanagers can be easily described with an analogy: Imagine a traffic jam: What is better, putting 5 people in one car and driving though the jam or placing one person each in 5 cars and driving though the jam? Obviously, your 5 cars strategy has a higher throughput – at first: Until everyone drives with 5 cars which means in the end that it is even slower than before as the highway is even more crowded now. The mirrors aren't slow because they want to annoy you, they are slow because they want to be fair to everyone and serve everyone equally until some idiots come around and think they deserve a bigger share of the pie and trick the system. We will not support methods to destroy our mirror infrastructure, so its (still) a big NO NO to apt-fast and co (and given how "fast" I found a serious security-hole in it the last time, I seriously wonder how easy it is to get users to download and run random stuff from the internet compromising the whole system – but at least its compromised fast…). That said, mirrors are far from slow. The key is to use a mirror which is (network-topology wise) close to you. Infrastructure wise stuff like mirror://, mirrorbrain, http.debian.net and/or co could be used to facilitate this, but that isn't something APT can provide. (The answer is based on Debian experience, but I strongly believe Ubuntu folks aren't disagreeing. And for the record: With the right mirror [+ pipelining] I can get >8 MB/s [at my university, at home I don't have that much of bandwidth, but its maxed out]). ** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1224229 Title: Suggest to use axel instead of wget in apt-get To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1224229/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
