No idea I'm afraid, I'm acting as upstream for MAAS. Andres didn't say
anything about uploading it to the LTS but if there's demand it could happen.

[Bug 1237343] [NEW] session.gc_maxlifetime ignored by garbage collector

2013-10-09 Thread unsen
Public bug reported:

i used to set the session livetime for a php session in .htaccess:

.htaccess:
php_value session.gc_maxlifetime 3600

so unfortuately this isn't working anymore sice the garbage collector
ist deleting unused sessions every 1440 seconds.

/usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime:

#!/bin/sh -e

max=1440
...

where 1440 seems not to be minutes but seconds!

so every configuration about session-lifetimes in any htaccess or other
confuguration files is for nothing because the garbage-collector will
delete any unused sessions every 24 Minutes.

[Bug 1237343] Re: session.gc_maxlifetime ignored by garbage collector

2013-10-09 Thread unsen
seems not properly reasonend - more a workaround.

settings like these should be update-safe.
i recognised, my modified /usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime script has been overwritten
by some system-updates.

why isn't there a hook or something like that to easy configure (and
keep) such an elementary setting?

also some more hints to the garbage collector should be placed. None of
the php manuals or any other documentations are refering to it. (besides
php5-common.README.Debian - but you realy have to stumble over)

2013-10-09 Thread Ondřej Surý
Please don't play BTS ping-pong. That's how the packaged PHP works. The
session behaviour is described in README.Debian together with reasons
and you always have an option to configure the default value in
/etc/php5/sapi/php.ini or just configure it back on your local system
(and disable the cron script) if you require PHP internal GC session
collection to work and don't care about the security implications.

[Bug 1227937] Re: lxc-start is unconfined but has a profile defined

2013-10-09 Thread Jamie Strandboge
As mentioned, this was is on an Ubuntu Touch system and it happens on
boot. It is still the case as of today. I don't know much about the
container flip on Touch devices, but right now, the apparmor profile is
not in effect on these systems. I can confirm this on the Nexus 7
(grouper) and Nexus 4 (mako).

Unfortunately, today someone (vila) reported the following denial during a test
run:
/var/log/syslog: Oct  8 09:16:26 saucy-i386-20131008-0916 dbus[499]:
apparmor=DENIED operation=dbus_method_call bus=system
path=/org/freedesktop/DBus interface=org.freedesktop.DBus member=Hello
mask=send name=org.freedesktop.DBus pid=634 profile=lxc-container-default
peer_profile=lxc-container-default info=Permission denied

I think this indicates a race condition where lxc somehow won the race
and the profile was in effect, but the profile itself is missing needed
rules because no one has actually seen/noticed this condition due to
this bug.

2013-10-09 Thread Stéphane Graber
The LXC container on touch has always been lxc.aa_profile=unconfined so
whether apparmor is ready or not shouldn't matter since it's configured
not to use it.

If we did want apparmor to protect the container, then we'd indeed have
a race at the moment, but since we don't, I'm pretty confused as to how
you ended up with the reject.

Thanks for reporting this bug. Can you reproduce it at will? How was
this container created and started, and what does its configuration file
look like?

Given the stack trace this looks like it actually might be a libc bug,
or (since malloc of 576 bytes is failing) bad memory.

[Bug 1227937] Re: lxc-start is unconfined but has a profile defined

2013-10-09 Thread Serge Hallyn
Here is my understanding:

1. so long as a container has a profile specified, then if the apparmor
policies have not been loaded, the container start will fail.

2. In the lxc-android-config case, the container has lxc.aa_profile =
unconfined. Therefore it is possible for lxc-start (which normally has
its own somewhat flexible profile) to run unconfined, but there will be
no difference for the actual container.

We consider the container to be the untrustworthy thing. per (1) if it
is supposed to run in a profile and that profile is not loaded, the
start will correctly fail. However lxc-start itself may run unconfined.
I'm open to suggestions for how to enforce that it should be confined
and is in fact running unconfined. But I can't think of any. The user
could, and sometimes does, purposely run it unconfined, and I don't want
to break that.

I'd like to (after saucy) break /etc/init/lxc.conf into /etc/init/lxc-
aa.conf and /etc/init/lxc-autostart.conf.  lxc-net.conf would start on
runlevel 2345, lxc-autostart.conf would start on started lxc-net.conf
and lxc-aa.conf. lxc-aa.conf would start on filesystem, to load the
apparmor policies as early as possible. We could then also have lxc-
start fail if lxc-aa.conf is not started. The way to disable apparmor,
in that case, would be to set LXC_AA=false in /etc/default/lxc. That
way lxc-aa.conf could still start even if aa is disabled for lxc.

[Bug 1237543] [NEW] lxc-create (or clone) of cloud template with '--cloud' exits failure

2013-10-09 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

$ sudo lxc-create -n lxc-precise-server-pristine -t ubuntu-cloud -- -r precise
-a amd64 -C
ubuntu-cloudimg-query is /usr/bin/ubuntu-cloudimg-query
wget is /usr/bin/wget
Extracting container rootfs
lxc-create: container creation template for lxc-precise-server-pristine failed

lxc-create: Error creating container lxc-precise-server-pristine

The issue is silly.
/usr/share/lxc/hooks/ubuntu-cloud-prep does nothing because of the --cloud (-C)
arg, except for 'debug()'
but since no '-v' flags were provided, it exited non-zero.

fix is to fix debug()

[Bug 1237265] Re: clamav verified ineffective

2013-10-09 Thread Seth Arnold
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System -
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

[Bug 1237615] [NEW] python-bson-ext does not encode binary in Apache with mod_wsgi

2013-10-09 Thread Gavin Panella
Public bug reported:

In a component of MAAS we're using python-bson to dump out structures
containing binary data. Everything works fine in development, but breaks
in production under Apache.

In Python 2.x (we're using 2.7) it's necessary to wrap str/bytes objects
in bson.binary.Binary; the encoder then does an isinstance check and
encodes these objects as binary data - or \x05 e_name binary, from the
spec. However, under Apache our binary data is being encoded as string
data - or \x02 e_name string, from the spec. When decoding this
becomes a unicode object, which chokes the next part of the MAAS's
processing.

I think this is due to the C extension module. Apache and/or mod_wsgi
does some weird things with Python contexts (I don't know much about
this, just enough to know it can be a problem), and I suspect the
PyObject_IsInstance(value, state-Binary) condition in
bson/_cbsonmodule.c is failing because state-Binary is referencing a
different Binary type than MAAS's code is.

The following are the mod_wsgi directives we're using in Apache:

{{{
WSGIDaemonProcess maas user=maas group=maas processes=2 threads=1
display-name=%{GROUP}

# Without this, defining a tag as a malformed xpath expression will hang
# the region controller.

# Preload application when process starts. This will allow publishing
# the MAAS server existence over Avahi.

the userland tools have stayed static making the version gap grow. Could
this be why when I run service drbd start it never kicks me back to

Is there a workaround?

Can you try linux-image-generic-lts-quantal or

Those kernel versions will have different DRBD module versions.

[Bug 1103656] Re: Update Precise drbd8-utils to 8.3.13 for the 12.04.2 release

2013-10-09 Thread flickerfly
Yeah, actually just did 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade' which took me to the
lts-raring kernel and it looks happier. Thanks Jan!

I am still getting the version mismatch, but it seems to function
properly now. Was that bug #1185756 I was running into? I was just
parsing through that so maybe I'll comment over there that this resolved
my problem and hopefully assist someone trying to parse that
conversation.

[Bug 1185756] Re: drbd8-utils not compatible with linux-lts-raring kernel in 12.04

2013-10-09 Thread flickerfly
Solution via kernel upgrade:

I believe I was experiencing this same problem on 12.04.3. I did a dist-
upgrade which install the current lts-raring kernel and rebooted. This
resolved my hangup.

Thank you guys for all the work put into solving this.

Confirmed again, drab freezes on fresh 12.04.3 install. A workaround

There's a redhat bug also for drbd 8.3 on newer 3.8 kernels:

[Bug 1237071] Re: Incompatible with virtualenv

2013-10-09 Thread Lloyd Parkes
This bug is a duplicate of #988471. Sorry for not checking for other
byobu bugs, but launchpad did search for possible duplicates and showed
me something that wasn't even close, so I figured I was first.

The user who has Python only in /usr/local has installed the Ubuntu
Byobu package without the required dependencies. I'm not sure why they
think the Byobu package should cope with this.

I think it's safe to say that software that gets installed and used is
also going to be abuse. It's the software maintainer's job to ensure
that the software can survive that abuse, but inevitably there are
limits. Using virtualenv to create a preferred (and unexpected) python
can be considered abuse. Failing to install required prerequisites is
also abuse. For some software, setting strange locales in the
environment might be considered abuse. You have to make a decision about
what sort of abuse this package can withstand and I don't think many
software maintainers are interested in making their software work in the
face of missing prerequisites.

[Bug 1232814] Re: Hibernate option is missing from menu in 13.10 even after trying to re-enable

2013-10-09 Thread Benjamin Tegge
Dirty workaround:
1. install and configure uswsusp if you haven't already
2. backup pm-suspend (it's just a symlink to ../lib/pm-utils/bin/pm-action)
cp /usr/sbin/pm-suspend /usr/sbin/pm-suspend-bak
3. replace it with s2disk
cp /usr/sbin/s2disk /usr/sbin/pm-suspend

You can now hibernate with s2disk from the menu via suspend entry, but
have no entry for actually bringing the system into suspend mode.

[Bug 1197789] Re: Upstart upgrades are creating problematic processes

2013-10-09 Thread Steve Langasek
So the processes are almost certainly tied to the mountall-shell job.
Does the problem happen after every reboot? When it does occur, you can
confirm that it's the mountall-shell job by running 'sudo service
mountall-shell status', which probably shows that the service is
start/running.

There's nothing in mountall that would trigger this behavior because of
a plymouth failure; anything that caused mountall to fail should also
have printed a line out in the upstart log. So this looks like mountall
is instead dying with a signal from outside. Any idea what could be
causing such a thing on your system?
