[Bug 1224517] Re: please add glusterfs support

2013-11-25 Thread Ralf Schenk
Hello Jiri,

also thanks for this solution. I agree to Alan that I needed to manually
add the DEB_CONFIGURE_EXTRA_FLAGS=--enable-glusterfs.

In addition I can confirm that above workaround to get native glusterfs
support to qemu also works on Ubuntu LTS 12.04.3 (Precise) by using the
latest packages for Openstack Havana from The Ubuntu Cloud Archive: See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ServerTeam/CloudArchive which will be supported
until 2017. They are also compiled without qemu native glusterfs support
!

First I upgraded all packages of my LTS-Server. It's also already running
raring kernels-series 3.8.x (sudo apt-get install linux-generic-lts-raring)
sudo apt-get upgrade

I added this repo:
sudo add-apt-repository cloud-archive:havana

To void dependency problems during package-configuration this leads to
completely upgraded and configured packages:
sudo apt-get install qemu-kvm librados2 librbd1 libvirt-bin libvirt0
python-libvirt qemu-common qemu-kvm qemu-utils qemu-system-x86
qemu-system-common
sudo apt-get upgrade

Afterwards I followed your steps to get qemu build with native glusterfs
support.

Bye

[Bug 1250388] Re: maas-ipmi-autodetect-tool fails to detect IPMI on midway

2013-11-25 Thread Robie Basak
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ Machines successfully enlist, but IPMI autodetection fails. This causes
+ MAAS to fail to have any power control parameters for enlisted nodes,
+ which means that manual intervention is required and MAAS fails to Just
+ Work.
+
+ [Upstream Fix]
+
+ Revision 1717 in trunk.
+
+ [Development Fix]
+
+ Pending upstream release/snapshot.
+
+ [Stable Fix]
+
+ A minimal import glob patch should work here.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ glob is a standard Python library function, and there should be no
+ impact in importing it. If some change to maas-ipmi-autodetect-tool were
+ to cause a regression, it would be that the tool would fail, thus
+ causing the power parameters to fail to set in MAAS upon enlistment.
+ This is the use case being fixed by this SRU.
+
+ [Original Description]
+
  maas1.4+bzr1693+dfsg-0ubuntu2.2 on Saucy

It appears to me that this would affect Highbank, Midway and anything
else that does local IPMI detection using this snippet on Saucy.

  During enlistment:

  Traceback (most recent call last):
- File /tmp/sh.6FtsiE/bin/maas-ipmi-autodetect-tool, line 44, in module
- main()
- File /tmp/sh.6FtsiE/bin/maas-ipmi-autodetect-tool, line 33, in main
- (status, ipmi_version) = detect_ipmi()
- File /tmp/sh.6FtsiE/bin/maas-ipmi-autodetect-tool, line 18, in detect_ipmi
- found = glob.glob(/dev/ipmi[0-9])
+   File /tmp/sh.6FtsiE/bin/maas-ipmi-autodetect-tool, line 44, in module
+ main()
+   File /tmp/sh.6FtsiE/bin/maas-ipmi-autodetect-tool, line 33, in main
+ (status, ipmi_version) = detect_ipmi()
+   File /tmp/sh.6FtsiE/bin/maas-ipmi-autodetect-tool, line 18, in detect_ipmi
+ found = glob.glob(/dev/ipmi[0-9])
NameError: global name 'glob' is not defined

Looks like this was fixed in upstream trunk in revision 1717. This may
  need a Saucy SRU.

Workaround: add import glob to /etc/maas/templates/commissioning-user-
  data/snippets/maas_ipmi_autodetect_tool.py.

[Bug 1235231] Re: plymouth loses output to /dev/console (such as ci-info: messages)

2013-11-25 Thread Scott Moser
irc conversation response to comment 21.

11/21/13 14:24:54 smoser so would you NAK a proposal to put
'plymouth-disabler' into 'plymouth' packaging ?
11/21/13 14:25:15 smoser i'd like to get that in quick and be done with it.
and it really has nothing to do with cloud-init, but everythign to do with
plymouth.
11/21/13 14:28:26 slangasek I think it's wrong to put it there, because it's
about plymouth not being a proper fit for the cloud images, so why shouldn't it
be in a package maintained by the cloud team
11/21/13 14:28:58 slangasek I see your point that it doesn't really fit
cloud-init - maybe a separate source package that's seeded directly in the
cloud images?
11/21/13 14:29:09 smoser its about fixing a bug in plymouth
11/21/13 14:29:15 smoser a dataloss bug
11/21/13 14:29:35 smoser i'm fine to make a separate sourc epakcage
11/21/13 14:29:38 smoser and seed it into cloud images
11/21/13 14:30:00 smoser but i think that means maintenance that isn't
obvious should a plymouth upstart job be added.
11/21/13 14:30:05 smoser thats why i wanted it in plymouth.
11/21/13 14:30:27 slangasek right, but there shouldn't be any more plymouth
jobs added
11/21/13 14:30:36 slangasek so the risk there is minmial
11/21/13 14:30:38 slangasek minimal too
11/21/13 14:31:46 smoser alright then. new source package :-(.

Hi Robert,

so you'd say this was a bug in lxc versus linux because lxc should
detect the kernel version and add this iptables rule in lxc-net.conf?

I guess I don't really see a downside to that...

During early boot, plymouth captures writes to /dev/console. As I
understand it, it is supposed to re-play that content later. Whether or
not it intends to is not the issue. In Ubuntu cloud-images (and in other
cases) users may write data to /dev/console that needs to be seen on the
other side (ie a serial logger or 'get-console-ouptput' EC2 api call).

This bug is easily reproducible on a local kvm, a cloud such as EC2 or a
local lxc container. In my opinion, it should be considered data
loss. The issue is that a user cannot reliably write data to
/dev/console.

See the attached 'my-logger.conf' for an upstart job that simply writes
data early in boot to /dev/console. Sometimes data lost is available
in /var/log/boot.log, but sometimes it doesn't even seem to make it
there. bug 682831 (http://pad.lv/682831) has an attachment 'myhack-init'
that does a similar thing but starts outputting by replacing /sbin/init
and then calling /sbin/init itself.

I'd really appreciate it if someone was able to take a look at this.
I'm willing to help reproduce it and can even give access to some cloud-
instances that can reproduce if necessary.

[Bug 1235231] Re: plymouth loses output to /dev/console (such as ci-info: messages)

2013-11-25 Thread Scott Moser
Theres a plea for review/accept at
http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2013/11/25/%23ubuntu-devel.html#t14:18 that is met
with 2 questions:
a.) why isn't this in plymouth package (because slangasek requested it not be)
b.) why isn't this in cloud-init package (because its not at all related to
cloud-init)

Rbasak mentioned that disabling plymouth does have fallout, for example
lightdm is 'start on started plymouth'. Other upstart jobs on my system
that mention plymouth are:

$ grep -r plymouth /etc/init  -l | grep -v /plymouth
/etc/init/console-font.conf
/etc/init/lightdm.conf
/etc/init/failsafe.conf
/etc/init/setvtrgb.conf
/etc/init/mountall.conf
/etc/init/friendly-recovery.conf

lightdm and failsafe are the ones that seem most worrysome there.

[Bug 1243741] Re: apache2 asserts on reload - GLib-GObject-CRITICAL + g_boxed_type_register_static

2013-11-25 Thread David Favor
Alright let's see if I can at least figure out the true source of this
assertion, as Apache seems to have no direct linkage to glib.

First I hacked out two scripts...

lsofunique - prints all unique files of a process ala lsof.

lddflat - prints lib name for every internal reference.

Attached is the full output off - lddflat $(lsofunique apache2 | grep
'\.so') | grep glib

The lines that pop out relate to PHP... as I suspected...

/usr/lib/php5/20121212/enchant.so /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libglib-2.0.so.0
/usr/lib/php5/20121212/imagick.so /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libglib-2.0.so.0
/usr/lib/php5/20121212/midgard2.so /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libglib-2.0.so.0
/usr/lib/php5/20121212/midgard2.so /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libdbus-glib-1.so.2
/usr/lib/php5/20121212/rrd.so /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libglib-2.0.so.0
/usr/lib/php5/20121212/vtkgdcm.so /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libglib-2.0.so.0

I'll turn off all these modules, then turn them back on, one-by-one,
to identify the culprit.

I'll update this ticket with the nefarious module throwing the
assertion.

[Bug 1243741] Re: apache2 asserts on reload - GLib-GObject-CRITICAL + g_boxed_type_register_static

2013-11-25 Thread David Favor
Alright, tried pecl upgrade-all just to make sure all modules are up to
date. None of the modules referencing glib were upgraded, so now to
disable them all + test Apache reload...

In /etc/php5/mods-available commented out all extension=...so entries in
the files mentioned above...

enchant.ini
imagick.ini
midgard2.ini
rrd.ini
vtkgdcm.ini

service apache2 restart
lddflat $(lsofunique apache2 | grep '\.so') | grep glib | grep php5 - yields
nothing, so we're good to test reload function.

Success! Apache now reloads w/o the glib assertion... Whew...

No to figure out which php module is throwing the assertion.

[Bug 1243741] Re: apache2 asserts on reload - GLib-GObject-CRITICAL + g_boxed_type_register_static

2013-11-25 Thread David Favor
PASS - enchant.ini
PASS - imagick.ini
PASS - midgard2.ini
PASS - rrd.ini
FAIL! - vtkgdcm.ini

Alright... so vtkgdcm.ini is the culprit... Now what is it...

net1# apt-file search vtkgdcm.ini
php5-vtkgdcm: /etc/php5/mods-available/vtkgdcm.ini

net1# apt-cache show php5-vtkgdcm
VTK PHP bindings to the GDCM DICOM library.

Hum... Just going to remove this package, as I'm unsure what dependency
this package satisfies.

So fix/resolution for this bug is...

apt-get purge php5-vtkgdcm

I'm unsure what to do next. Likely a bug ought to be opened against
php5-vtkgdcm referencing this ticket.

In the meantime, since many people are reporting this bug, maybe there's
some way upstream can flag the following package as broken...

php5-vtkgdcm-2.2.3

[Bug 1153626] Re: Multiple Interfaces and IPs not detected in AWS VPC

2013-11-25 Thread Forest
I'm in a similar situation: An ec2 instance with just one network
interface, to which I have assigned a secondary IP address.

This bit from the AWS docs is interesting:

If you are using Amazon Linux, the ec2-net-utils package can take care
of this step for you. It configures additional network interfaces that
you attach while the instance is running, refreshes secondary IP
addresses during DHCP lease renewal, and updates the related routing
rules.

http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/using-instance-
addressing.html#StepTwoConfigOS

Perhaps it would be worthwhile for cloud-init to do the same thing that
Amazon's ec2-net-utils package does.

[Bug 124440] Re: [enhancement] Ubuntu needs a way to set mouse scrolling speed

2013-11-25 Thread Phillip Pether
I would really love it to be able to have mouse config adjustment
options for the mouse scroll by pixel instead of it jumping per line.
It's bit annoying with it jumping 3-4 lines at a time or even half a
page. most users, especially if they've come from another OS such as
Windows or Mac OSX would hate not being able to adjust the scroll by
pixel.

Mouse Scroll per Pixel [ 2 ]

or to any other user defined number of pixels they wish to set their
scrolling rate to. I find it rather disappointing that Ubuntu lacks this
option to customize your own mouse to how you want it.

I also see this behaviour when running inside a VMWare virtual machine with

When the guest display is resized (which seems to occur just after the desktop
is loaded) the top and bottom panels do not scale with it and the WindowPicker

[Bug 1254032] Re: wrong position of window reported after switching workspaces

2013-11-25 Thread Mark Westmijze
I also have this bug on a fresh install of Ubuntu 13.10.

However, first I had trouble recreating the bug when I followed the
instructions. But I clicked in the other application an additional time
(which was not described in step 4) , and not only on the icon in the
launcher. This already seemed to circumvent the bug, which would imply
that some event that is triggered once you click/(or do something) in
the other application does the magic which should also be executed once
you click the icon in the launcher.

[Bug 1174205] Re: Using pyopencl doesn't work and spits our ImportError

2013-11-25 Thread Rebecca Palmer
This is partially fixed in Trusty (nvidia-graphics-drivers-331): nvidia-
libopencl1-331 is now a separate package which the main driver only
Recommends:, so co-installing ocl-icd-libopencl1 and nvidia-331 is now
allowed, but as virtual packages aren't versioned, pyopencl will still
think nvidia-libopencl1-331 satisfies its libopencl1 dependency.

There are a few obvious solutions, but none of them are neat:
-Have pyopencl Depend: specifically on ocl-icd-libopencl1. The maintainer has
previously said he doesn't want to do that:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=682435
-Have nvidia-libopencl1-* not Provide: libopencl1 (effectively defining the
libopencl1 virtual package to be at least OpenCL 1.2).
-Remove the Recommends: nvidia-libopencl1-331 from nvidia-331, allowing
pyopencl's preference for ocl-icd-libopencl1 (Depends: ocl-icd-libopencl1 |
libopencl1) to take effect. Possibly replace it with a Recommends:
ocl-icd-libopencl1 to retain has OpenCL by default.

2013-11-25 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 863969] Re: ubuntu 11.10b2 resumes on wrong iMac display port

2013-11-25 Thread Peter T Hayward
I cannot use ubuntu any more. Cannot burn to DVD (media not recognized).
Despite following instructions to create USB install media from ubuntu iso file
my iMac will not boot from it - message is 'no boot media found'.
I have successfully installed fedora 19 on my iMac, with two monitors
connected; fedora boot image is recognized properly. With fedora 19 (kernel
3.11.6, radeon driver) the graphics find internal and external monitors but the
names appear to be reversed. The internal monitor is named eDP and the external
monitor is named DisplayPort-0. I can control the screens using xrandr.
The original problem is still there, if I suspend to RAM, and resume, the video
only shows on the external monitor. This implies the radeon driver is reverting
to DisplayPort-0, which, on my iMac, is the external monitor port.
So I would like to say this is confirmed, but I cannot confirm in ubuntu.

[Bug 1205384] Re: Lock can be circumvented by switching to console

2013-11-25 Thread Jarno Suni
@gilir
Great, just the introducing comment should be updated accordingly:

# Try to lock the screen with the following applications (in this order) :
# running xscreensaver, running gnome-screensaver, slock,
# i3lock, and finally, if none of them is available, use xscreensaver.

Hi.

I've confirmed that the bug still exists with kernel 3.13.0 (and tagged

I get a little time to do so, hopefully in the next few days.
