This is the second report which comes up after steam actually crashes. I am attempting to load an older version of wine but ive been through several system re-installs to try and remedy the crash and nothing changes. Why are you using old wine build (1.4.1)? I've figured that out. E: /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/console_setup failed with return 2. This script failed during update-initrams because it is callind /etc/init.d/console-cyrillic, which was modified by me and failed. These failures prevented new initrd being built. [Bug 812394] Re: Disable hibernate option by default
@Jérôme, Regardless of how you go about it, you'd need to enter a complex passphrase each time you start your computer, whether it's a cold boot or after hibernation. To give a comparison, imagine if Windows introduced a security feature requiring every user to enter a complex passphrase when turning on the computer; furthermore, every user on a single computer would need to know the same shared passphrase (in addition to their own login password). There would be a worldwide revolt. Ubuntu would have the very same restrictions. That's why hibernation cannot reasonably be available by default; the majority of Ubuntu users are not technically expert, but rather are everyday users and would revolt against this. Full-disk encryption is available via LUKS (now an option during installation in 13.10) for those who have the need, and hibernation can work then; perhaps it should be available by default, but only when LUKS is being used. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/812394 Title: Disable hibernate option by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/812394/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1258900] [NEW] Ecryptfs, cryptsetup p/w prompt enter key failures
Public bug reported: 1. With ecryptsfs: /etc/fstab: /root/ecfs_data /root/ecfs ecryptfs rw,exec, suid 0 0 a) Pressing the enter key quickly with no other input returns that some input is required. b) Pressing the enter key the first time subsequent to some input appears to append a return character to the password string. Pressing the enter subsequent to that submits the now incorrect password resulting in failure. c) If you hold the enter key, it sends multiple return characters, some times some of them appear to be appended to the password string, until eventually they start being sent to subsequent prompts. It would appear that sometimes multiple return characters are added to the password string because the signatures change on various attempts. c) may be relevant in the sense that the holding the enter key in #2 facilitates a workaround. 2. The password prompt created by cryptsetup exhibits similar behavior but can be worked around by holding the enter key. /etc/fstab: /root/e_data /root/e crypto_LUKS defaults 0 0 b) Pressing the enter key without any input specifies that the password was incorrect. a) Pressing the enter key the first time subsequent to some input appears to append a return character to the password string. A subsequent press of the enter key submits the now incorrect password. c) Holding the enter key subsequent to entering the password facilitates mounting. However, there are no further messages specifying success. Boot continues. In both instances of #1 and #2, the data from previous boot instructions appears past the `Password:` semicolon, ie: Password: /dev/sda1: 333 files, 13026/126976 clusters This does not appear to affect the success of 2.c. 3. The following may look like it is unrelated but consider the fact that the password prompt is not halted and the fact that this should in fact work. The reason why I think the following is related is because I think that it's possible that it is returning from the password prompt and failing the crypttab execution asynchronously if that is perhaps how the relevant executables (upstart?) operate. /etc/crypttab: swap_e /dev/sda8 /dev/urandom swap /etc/fstab: /dev/mapper/swap_e none swap sw 0 0 #-- if this is before the next line, it specifies that /dev/mapper/swape does not exist, and auto returns from the ecryptfs password prompt /root/ecfs_data /root/ecfs ecryptfs rw,exec, suid 0 0 As specified, when the ecryptfs mount entry in fstab is after the swap mount, it specifies that the /dev/mapper/swape disk does not exist and auto skips the ecryptfs mount, auto returning from the password prompt and said mount failure in /var/log/boot.log. [Bug 1258901] [NEW] package menu entries should use Exec=/bin/sh /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice --writer %U

[Bug 1098697] Re: [HP ENVY Sleekbook 6-1006sa] High Battery discharge rate when Laptop is off.
So, this issue has been downgraded to Low importance and the status changed to Incomplete because somebody has noticed that Dave is not running the latest version of the BIOS on his HP ENVY laptop. This is a generic problem affecting all makes of laptop. The BIOS on my Toshiba Tecra M2 does not support the Sleep and Charge feature, so that's not what's causing the battery drain. Let's remind ourselves that this problem did not exist until a kernal update caused it to happen with all flavours of Linux. It does not exist when Windows is the operating system. We do not seem to be getting any closer to the root of the problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1098697 Title: [HP ENVY Sleekbook 6-1006sa] High Battery discharge rate when Laptop is off. I was not aware, one could specify multiple packages that a bug affects as it appears these can only be added subsequent to a bug report as opposed to in the bug creation workflow. A bug report that specifies other affected packages is here. I am not sure if this is an issue caused by ecryptfs, but it would be convenient to have a workaround provided by ecryptfs and other affected packages if the issue cannot be resolved at a dependency level. https://bugs.launchpad.net/cryptsetup/+bug/1258900 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1258903 Title: Boot p/w prompt enter key failures To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ecryptfs-utils/+bug/1258903/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1258904] [NEW] deja-dup-monitor freezes the computer
Public bug reported: After a fresh install of 13.10, a few minutes after using it (I opened several programs), system became very unresponsive, to the point that mouse cursor was almost frozen on screen (it would move a few seconds after I move the mouse), and doing anything with computer was almost impossible. At the same time, I noticed that something is working heavily with hard disk (I have 3, and I don't know which one). After several minutes of unresponsiveness, I managed to restart the computer from console (ctrl+alt+f1; this also took some 30 seconds from pressing to actual console screen). After the restart, exactly the same has happened. I tried to restart several times after that and it was all the same. After a while, I installed iotop and found that deja-dup-monitor was making enormous disk readings. I killed its process and system became responsive again. After that, I disabled autostart for deja-dup-monitor and had no problems with it since. I don't know why this program behaves as it does, but I think that it is unacceptable behaviour, especially on a fresh install. As I remember, I had the same experience with my previous install, 12.04 (removed deja- dup completely). [Bug 1241309] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 has no way to change individual input method settings
@Shih-Yuan Lee (fourdollars), I cut and pasted your commands but got the news that the file did not exist on the second command although I could see it and even vi edit it. On the third command I was told that the keyname variables were incorrectly formatted (should not start with a capital letter). @David, the keyboard icon did not come up. I have a simple one showing Sv (for swedish) or En as alternative. The commands did not change anything, and I changed to Gnome (which I had installed). I normally use Cairo Dock on Gnome. @ Titan Lien (titan-lien), your solution did not work for me either. My solution: I have VirtualBox installed on this machine, so I am creating a 13-04 installation which I shall use for Mandarin till the bug is fixed. :( -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1241309 Title: Ubuntu 13.10 has no way to change individual input method settings To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1241309/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1258231] Re: NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context
Hi christopher, I've bought this computer over 3 years ago and used nothing but Ubuntu on it. As far as I can remember the problems started with the Quantal release (12.10). Just random lockups, sometimes happening more frequent. I've tried clocking down my GPU (Coolbits) to the lowest possible clock, but it still happens. First I thought it was somehow temperature related, both the GPU and CPU reach 80 degrees Celsius sometimes, but after some testing it even happens when there around 50 degrees as well. I guess it does seem to be related with heavy CPU usage, this seems to trigger the situation more often explaining the fact I suspected the temperature at first. I'm still wondering if it isn't hardware malfunction, is this a probable cause for these kind of errors? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1258231 Title: NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1258231/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10
Ctrl-Alt-T doesn't open Terminal in russian layout. However, with m17n workaround works OK. Is there a latin letter T in the russian layout? I mean a real latin letter T, and not only a correspondig cyrillic letter. This is the REAL question. While it is not comfortable, but it is according to the standards, that if there is no FOO in a layout, then there is neither Ctrl-Alt-FOO in the same layout. If terminal in russian begins with the CYRILLIC letter say X, then you should open your terminal with Ctrl-Alt-X. I guess that m17n workaround is a tool to break the standards. I understand you, I also suffer from the fact, that I am neither a native english speaker. But there is no equal opportunity in this partikcular World. We have no equal chances. We have to afford more efforts to achieve the same result. [Bug 1258919] [NEW] printing issue with parallel-to-usb adapter
Public bug reported: Hello, So far I am assuming that the problem is a driver one. I have an old HP Deskjet 710C parallel printer. I really don't print a lot, so it ages well. I just replaced my former desktop with a new barebone without parallel port - no space to embed a PCI IEEE 1284 adapter. So I just bought a cable which is a parallel-to-usb adapter : it is a Sweex adapter, the kernel recognizes it as : Prolific Technology, Inc. PL2305 Parallel Port I configured cups to use this new adapter, with the same old pnm2ppa driver. When I try to print a test page from cups (or other printings) it goes well, until close to the end, when the printing suddenly stops, without the sheet being released : I have to power off the printer, which as a side effect triggers the sheet ejection before power off. I read various articles and forums on this topic before posting. Playing with usblp, kernel blacklists and /dev/usb/lp0 does not solve anything. I wanted to be sure that it was not the Prolific controller which was flawed. So I connected it to a windows 7 virtual machine into Virtualbox; Windows installed various drivers, and eventually various printings ran seamlessly - without my issue on GNU/Linux. So my conclusion is that the controller is ok. I also just tested a mainline kernel : http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.13-rc3-trusty/linux- image-3.13.0-031300rc3-generic_3.13.0-031300rc3.201312061335_amd64.deb no improvement, my test page stops being printed at the same spot close to the end. So I can assume that there is a bug in the controller's driver. So I am posting this bug report here : can I do anything else for helping ? Is there any hope that this will be investigated further ?
