[Bug 1186228] Re: guestmount does not work

2013-12-24 Thread Thiago Jung Bauermann
I have the same problem on Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS on i386. I have plenty of
space both in /tmp and /var/tmp (they're on the same partition):

hactar% LANG= df -h /tmp /var/tmp
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/hactar--vg-root 120G 107G 7.1G 94% /
/dev/mapper/hactar--vg-root 120G 107G 7.1G 94% /

I also have the problem that update-guestfs-appliance doesn't work
(reported as bug #1263989).

Package versions:
libguestfs0: 1:1.14.8-1
qemu-kvm: 1.0+noroms-0ubuntu14.12
febootstrap: 3.14-2

[Bug 1186228] Re: guestmount does not work

2013-12-24 Thread Richard Jones
To diagnose this what you have to do:

(1) Run libguestfs-test-tool

It will (presumably) fail. It will also print out an febootstrap-
supermin-helper command line (or in newer versions, a supermin-helper
command line). In the comment above, it printed out:

febootstrap-supermin-helper --verbose -f ext2
/usr/lib/guestfs/supermin.d i686 /var/tmp/guestfs.t3yS8p/kernel
/var/tmp/guestfs.t3yS8p/initrd /var/tmp/guestfs.t3yS8p/root

(But note that your command line will be different).

(2) Modify the command line slightly. The 'kernel', 'initrd', and
'root' options are *output* files. You want those to be on /var/tmp.
Also add -v -v -v. So you'd end up with something like:

febootstrap-supermin-helper --verbose -v -v -v -f ext2
/usr/lib/guestfs/supermin.d i686 /var/tmp/kernel /var/tmp/initrd
/var/tmp/root

Run that command and it will print out lots of very detailed debugging
information about what supermin-helper is trying to do.

Most likely (assuming you've not run out of disk space) it's because
there's some symlink or parent directory missing, which you can fix by
adding the right missing directory to /usr/lib/guestfs/supermin.d/00
-missing-dir (see the supermin-helper man page).

[Bug 1186228] Re: guestmount does not work

2013-12-24 Thread Richard Jones
For example, you could add a file /usr/lib/guestfs/supermin.d/00
-missing-dir containing two lines:

/
/lib

(assuming /lib was the missing directory)

[Bug 1264050] [NEW] ruby on a fresh install is too minimal to use

2013-12-24 Thread Kevin O'Gorman
Public bug reported:

On a fresh raring or saucy install of Xubuntu, there's ruby-1:1.9.3 installed,
but it's pretty useless as a programming tool because of the lack of support
for things like ri(1). The ri program exists, but is useless because it
doesn't have any documentation to work with. For example,
ri Array
says
Nothing known about Array.

OTOH, when I installed ruby1.9.1-full, indeed I get a full ruby, with
all the support and an ri that knows its stuff.

So: consider this a request for enhancement: The ruby package should say
it's minimal and suggest how to get the full version. In the package
description, in an error message when using ri, and so on. Or your
releases should include the full version.

2013-12-24 Thread Vasiliy Tolstov
StefanF (stefan) , as i see ubuntu not very interesting to solve this
bug. Nothing changed in past six months.

I think best off all - write to lkml or sta...@vger.kernel.org and ask
help from kernel devs.

P.S. I have this problem and want to say very big thanks for your
workaround.

(The torrent file

If i close the window the torrent is added and the download starts as
expected.

I was not able to reproduce the error with Firefox 26 - so this could be
a Chromium problem!?!

[Bug 118936] Re: Alacarte does not recover deleted menu items

2013-12-24 Thread Josh Ventura
For those who have deleted things not realizing how permanent and global
this would be, you can revert everything by deleting
`~/.local/share/applications`. I know it's not ideal, but it's better
than screwing everything else up trying to fix it some other way.

libopenconnect2:amd64 5.01-1 amd64 Open client for Cisco AnyConnect VPN -
shared library
network-manager-openconnect 0.9.8.0-1ubuntu2 amd64 network management framework
(OpenConnect plugin)
network-manager-openconnect-gnome 0.9.8.0-1ubuntu2 amd64 network management
framework (OpenConnect plugin GNOME GUI)
openconnect 5.01-1 amd64 Open client for Cisco AnyConnect VPN

When I connect Cisco AnyConnect the icon which is showing connection
status is not updated and show the lock. However the connection is still
marked off in the menu which is shown when icon is clicked.

When I disconnect, the icon keeps a lock and the item in the menu
doesn't change.

When using PPTP VPN connections the icon and menu items are updated
correctly.

I am attaching the picture where the lock can be seen as if the
connection was established and the menu item shows both VPN connections
to be off.

** Affects: network-manager-openconnect (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Attachment added: Picture showing a lock and status off in the menu.

[Bug 1169437] Re: network-manager dnsmasq openvpn DNS issue

2013-12-24 Thread Thomas Hood
As of Ubuntu 13.04 NetworkManager transmits nameserver information to
dnsmasq over D-Bus, but I believe it configures dnsmasq in the same way.

NetworkManager is prepending /domain/ strings to the returned DNS server
[addresses] so that they are only used for the local domain.

NetworkManager prepends domain names to the DNS server addresses so that
those addresses are only used for those domains, which are presumably
the (non-public) domains of the VPN.

Remaining queries are falling to the bottom two servers, which are the
original pre-VPN DNS servers

Thas is by design.

for which routes no longer exists causing DNS queries to anything
other than example.com domain to fail.

That is a bug in the routing configuration. I suggest you investigate
it. It could be a bug specific to Arch Linux or to your own system.

** Description changed:

[Bug 1169437] Re: network-manager dnsmasq openvpn DNS issue

2013-12-24 Thread Thomas Hood
As I wrote in comment #11, I can't reproduce the behavior of nameserver
addresses supplied by the OpenVPN server not being used correctly. It
seems that if there was a bug in Ubuntu 12.10 then it has been fixed in
more recent versions. In the ensuing four months no one has contradicted
these findings so I am closing this report.

Along the way other issues have been reported. Either these have already
been reported or they should be reported in separate tickets.

Re: [Bug 580952] Re: Log messages: CIFS VFS: ignoring corrupt resume name

2013-12-24 Thread Willem Hobers
Hi Christopher

Thanks for you email.

I am not using 10.04 any more, so I can't test as described below.

Thank you for the good work.

Happy to be using Ubuntu.

WIllem Hobers, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
 http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

 apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the
daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've
tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
 add the following tags:
 kernel-fixed-upstream
 kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
 example:
 kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc5

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon
next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well,
 please remove the tag:
 needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
 kernel-bug-exists-upstream
 kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
 needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
 understanding.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-12-24 Thread Norbert
@zzecool
For lock screen we have separate bug report
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/1244548

I can't understand why GNOME developers does not hear us. If we speak about
problems related to layout switching - there are many affected users (730 here
and about 300 for other bugs).
I tried to write e-mail to gnome-usability mail list with no luck.
So I recently posted a note to Google+ about known problems of modern GNOME
products ( https://plus.google.com/104269028367132002623/posts/e8Xmn9fzDVw ).

[Bug 1176226] Re: lcdproc for imon_lcd stopped working

2013-12-24 Thread Bengt Nilsson
Ok, found python-launchpadlib (why call it launchpadlib Python module when it
is really called python-launchpadlib?)
Logs sent.

** Description changed:

The front panel display on my IMON-LCD served by the lcdproc daemon
  stopped working today 03-may-2013.

  dmesg | grep imon shows

[Bug 888789] Re: evince doesn't render embedded font

2013-12-24 Thread Scott Kostyshak
I can reproduce this bug by trying to open the pdf failing.pdf (posted
earlier). Note that it appears fine to my eyes but the error messages to
STDERR and the apparmor entries in kern.log show that there is a
problem. It must be that the problem font is just not used in many parts
of this particular PDF.

In another document, I can see no text. I cannot upload it because of
private information.

Adding the line
/usr/local/texlive/2013/texmf-dist/fonts/** r,
to the
/usr/bin/evince
block solves the problem.

I can reproduce starting from a fresh install of Ubuntu 13.10 with the
following:
sudo apt-get install git
git clone https://github.com/scottkosty/install-tl-ubuntu
 cd install-tl-ubuntu
sudo ./install-tl-ubuntu
# restart computer
evince failing.pdf

Note that ./install-tl-ubuntu could take an hour or so to install. But I
just wanted to give a way to reproduce from a fresh install in case
someone looks here.

[Bug 1169437] Re: network-manager dnsmasq openvpn DNS issue

I mentioned above (comment #11) the problem that nmcli doesn't say
anything about the OpenVPN connection. I have added a comment about this
to bug #1161512 which may be related.

[Bug 1161512] Re: network manager doesn't show the correct configuration information about openvpn tunnels

2013-12-24 Thread Thomas Hood
While investigating bug #1169437 I noticed (see comment #11) that nmcli
doesn't output any information about the VPN connection. Could this bug
be related to that fact?

[Bug 1256091] Re: CVE-2013-6382

2013-12-24 Thread John Johansen
** Description changed:

Multiple buffer underflows in the XFS implementation in the Linux kernel
through 3.12.1 allow local users to cause a denial of service (memory
corruption) or possibly have unspecified other impact by leveraging the
  CAP_SYS_ADMIN capability for a (1) XFS_IOC_ATTRLIST_BY_HANDLE or (2)
XFS_IOC_ATTRLIST_BY_HANDLE_32 ioctl call with a crafted length value,
related to the xfs_attrlist_by_handle function in fs/xfs/xfs_ioctl.c and
  the xfs_compat_attrlist_by_handle function in fs/xfs/xfs_ioctl32.c.

[Bug 1169437] Re: network-manager dnsmasq openvpn DNS issue

2013-12-24 Thread Thomas Hood
Clemens wrote in comment #13:

My NetworkManager OpenVPN configuration had a domain listed under Additional
 search domains.
With dns=dnsmasq this resulted in the domains pushed from openvpn via 'push
 dhcp-option DOMAIN mydomainto be ignored.

I have just tried to reproduce this and cannot.

I have dns=dnsmasq and am initially not connect to a VPN. My
resolv.conf looks like the following.

# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by
resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
nameserver 127.0.1.1
search myhomelandomain

I connect to my work VPN.

# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by
resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
nameserver 127.0.1.1
search mycorp.com myhomelandomain

I disconnect from the VPN. In the connection editor I add an Additional
search domain and connect to the VPN.

# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by
resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
nameserver 127.0.1.1
search mycorp.com foobarbaz myhomelandomain

This is what I would expect. It seems that this bug is fixed too. Or
there is a bug but it only manifests itself under certain circumstances.
Clemens, if you still encounter this problem then please open a new bug
report against network-manager-openvpn including details about the
circumstances under which adding an Additional search domain causes
the OpenVPN server supplied search domains to be omitted from the domain
search list.

[Bug 862125] Re: After resume, a black screen, flashing when moving mouse

2013-12-24 Thread Donald
I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. My uname:

Linux silent 3.6.10 #1 SMP Mon Jan 7 23:10:14 CET 2013 x86_64 x86_64
x86_64 GNU/Linux

The problem started occurring once I didn't leave my log-in on all the
time but had additional accounts for other people where we now log off
or switch users using the Unity desktop. The problem particularly seems
occurring when a user logs off and the lightdm greeter should be
displayed, while one or more other user sessions are running in the
background.

It's hard to believe that this problem has been confirmed, yet ignored
for more than two years...

[Bug 1263458] Re: no OpenGLX with Nvidia-prime and the discrete card

2013-12-24 Thread CedS
I have the solution for this bug !

1):

- In fact, the nvidia-331 driver erase the intel's driver
configuration's files, that's the cause of GLX extension missing on
screen 0 and the unity's bug.

2)
- So we need to install nvidia-prime and nvidia-331. Don't log out

3)
- run terminal and execute : sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-glx

this commande reinstall the configuration of intel's HD4000 driver.

4) - Then reboot your computer

- with this command, intel's driver seems to be correctly configured, unity is
running, kde too, openglx is working and I can switch between this two cards,
the discrete nvidia-card is perfectly working, and nvidia-prime too.

2013-12-24 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Also affects 201303-13115 HP Pavilion 14

As requested from upstream,
I've also verified with Win 7 Ent. Sp1 on 201303-13115,
I'm not sure how to debug this in windows, but according to device manager, the
touchpad was detected as PS/2 Compatible Mouse as well

For 201303-13115, 201304-13249 and 201307-13904 the udev resource attachment
from pre-install image shows:
path: /devices/virtual/input/input14
bus: input
category: KEYBOARD
product_id: 0
vendor_id: 0
product: GlidePoint Virtual Touchpad

Maybe this is the real name for it?

[Bug 390508] Re: notifyOSD ignores the expire timeout parameter

2013-12-24 Thread wirespot
Allow me to clarify the situation.

In the Desktop Notification Specification there is nothing to suggest that the
expire_timeout parameter is optional.
https://developer.gnome.org/notification-spec/#commands

The devs for gnome-shell and notifyOSD have taken it upon themselves to
silently(!) ignore the parameter in their server implementation. There
is a comment in the code for gnome-shell that states this, but IMHO that
is not the right way to deal with this.

I can see two logical solutions:

1) Fix gnome-shell and notifyOSD to conform to the spec. ie. stop
ignoring the expire_timeout parameter. This implies modifications to the
code (see aforementioned patch) and no modification to the spec.

2) Change the spec to explicitly advertise support for expiration
timeout via a server capability eg. if expire-timeout does not appear
in the list returned by org.freedesktop.Notifications.GetCapabilities()
then the client will _know_ that the expire_timeout parameter will be
ignored because the server does not support it. This solution would
imply no modifications to the code for gnome-shell/notifyOSD (they will
not have expire-timeout published in capabilities, therefore ignoring
the expire_timeout parameter becomes perfectly logical and expected.) It
will however require changes to the spec and probably to various other
client and server implementations.

[Bug 974480] Re: Notification area whitelist is obsolete

2013-12-24 Thread Maxim Loparev
Hey Mark, can you please comment on this.
According to the origin of this bug The application indicator system has been
in place for two years now, which should be long enough for applications to
adopt it.
Ok, i asked one of the (Debian) developers to consider to support it in some tk
app(so as you don't provide tk bindings they should be created first). So he
asked me about, surprize, documentation. And the questions are:

1) Do you think that application indicator system so popular and mature
enough, so 3 of 4 links from the
https://unity.ubuntu.com/projects/appindicators/ could lead to 404 pages

2)Do you think it's so cool that it even not worth to mention it at
http://developer.ubuntu.com/api/

3) Is it really so hard to recognize your fail and revert the patch that
breaks compatibility instead of forcing the world to play with your half
supported/half abandoned API initiative?

[Bug 1171729] Re: no backlight controls with nvidia driver on MacbookPro5, 5

2013-12-24 Thread Hohle Frucht
Hi All
The solution from wvengen does work perfectly for me. I also have a macbook pro
5.5 and at the moment I'm running Ubuntu 13.10. My Nvidia Driver at the time of
typing is 304 but I will try 319 soon.
Just install git via: sudo apt-get install git if no already done.
Next step is clone the mentioned repo. So type:

git clone https://github.com/guillaumezin/nvidiabl.git

Next step is to install the latest package in the install/deb folder.
First enter the install/deb folder via

cd nvidiabl/install/deb

next is to actually install the driver via

sudo dpkg -i nvidiabl-dkms_0.85_all.deb

if a newer version (higher number thant 0.85) is available install this one
instead.
After installation has completed one needs to restart and backlight control
does work again :)

Credits go to guillaumezin and wvengen for coding and pointing me to the
solution. I'm very greatfull for your work and pointing me to the
solution after Hours of research.

[Bug 1229686] Re: [Asus ZenBook Prime UX31A] No video output at all when booting 13.10

2013-12-24 Thread Mikko
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1195483 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1195483

I'm having the same problem on my UX31A. Only the external monitor
works, the internal one stays blank. Cannot use the computer at all
without the external monitor. I don't see why this is a dublicate with
the bug no 1195483 as this only appears with 13.10. Everything worked
perfectly on 13.04.

Please change the Importance to High.

[Bug 683170] Re: should be possible to display only windows from the current workspace in the launcher

2013-12-24 Thread VT
I assume this will also affect dual screens? I would like to have per
screen icons on the unity bar rather than all icons from all screen on
each bar.

[Bug 1263907] [NEW] java crashed with SIGSEGV in soup_session_feature_detach when starting Fakturama

2013-12-24 Thread Christoph Weber
Public bug reported:

#
# A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:
#
# SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0xa751d9fd, pid=5798, tid=3075512000

# See problematic frame for where to report the bug.
#

This problem occurs when starting Fakturama (version 1.6.3, 32bit
installed via deb-package). Fakturama starts, then I am asked to select
the working directory (the Fakturama main window is launched in the
background) and after selecting the directory and pressing OK, the
window for die working directory selection disappears. Then the mouse-
pointer shows the busy symbol for a second and then Fakturama/JRE
crashes.

This bug is reproducible.

Error log attached.

[Bug 1254803] Re: virtualbox-guest-dkms 4.2.16-dfsg-3: virtualbox-guest kernel module failed to build [error: ‘struct mm_struct’ has no member named ‘numa_next_reset’]

2013-12-24 Thread Jim Cromie
I noticed in the details that vmlinux-3.13-rc5 was identified.
That is wrong - Im running a stock kernel
Linux chumly 3.11.0-14-generic #21-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 12 17:07:40 UTC 2013 i686
i686 i686 GNU/Linux
Though I did have 3.13-rc5 running before last reboot.

I reported on this existing bug because the dkms-version matched,
not because I got a numa-something error. this is a dual core laptop, not a
numa machine.
This bug has happened here for many months now, but doesnt break anything I
need.

I did notice once that dkms seemed to get confused with path to source,
I almost always build kernels using -O ../build-foo, and IIRC it used that
path to look for source. Hope this helps.
