[Bug 1007273] Re: autofs does not start automatically after reboot

2014-01-10 Thread Pavel Rojtberg
#13 contained the fix for me. commenting out the following gave ypbind
enough time to start so autofs correctly started as well

  #if status ypbind | grep -q start/respawn; then
  # # something killed ypbind; short-circuit here instead
  # # of continuing to try to call ypwhich, since that
  # # can take more than a minute.
  # break
  #fi

[Bug 106995] Re: gnome-terminal unconditionally interprets mouse wheel events

2014-01-10 Thread Otto Kekäläinen
I have noticed the same problem when using gnome-terminal + mosh = mouse
scroll goes trough command history (like pressing keys up and down)
instead of scrolling the (as would be correct in that situation and what
e.g. xterm does).

[Bug 1267791] [NEW] Mongodb server don't start because of bad log folder owner

2014-01-10 Thread Nico T
Public bug reported:

If I install (or reinstall) the mongodb-server package everything is
fine.

At the end of the installation the server is properly started and
clients can connect to it.

At that time, the owner of the /var/log/mongodb folder is 'mongodb'.

But as soon as the machine is rebooted the owner of this folder becomes
'root' and the server is unable to start.

See the mongo.txt file for a bash script descripting the bug

[Bug 106995] Re: gnome-terminal unconditionally interprets mouse wheel events

2014-01-10 Thread Otto Kekäläinen
Ok, the patch is now applied in gnome-terminal and I disabled in the
profile the option 'Whether to send keystrokes for alternate screen
scrolling' to fix this annoying behaviour for me.

[Bug 1267798] [NEW] Init script returns exit 0 for status when default has START=no

2014-01-10 Thread Greg Sutcliffe
Public bug reported:

Currently, if one sets START=no in /etc/default/puppetmaster, the init
script will exit with exit-code 0, regardless of whether the service is
running or not. In the case where you have a puppet manifest like:

service { 'puppetmaster': ensure = stopped }

Puppet will try to stop the service on every agent run, because status
is returning zero, so Puppet thinks it is running.

This issue was fixed upstream in this commit:

https://github.com/puppetlabs/puppet/commit/e48902a7d881e84861d366af5ff88fc0146037da

As it's a one-liner, could this be backported into the Ubuntu packages?

Thanks,
Greg

[Bug 1129720] Re: juju instances not including the default security group

2014-01-10 Thread Ian Booth
Since some deployments will want the global default group added to Juju
machines and others not, we've decided to make it configurable - the
default is false so existing behaviour is preserved. But deployments
that want to use the default group can do so but changing the config
option to true.

[Bug 1267890] [NEW] assertion failure and hard hang switching resolution

2014-01-10 Thread Phillip Susi
Public bug reported:

I booted the 13.10 live cd using -vga std ( since the default cirrus no
longer works correctly ) and it comes up using the full resolution of my
real screen, which is annoying since the window does not fit no the
screen. I went into the display control pannel to switch to a lower
resolution, and qemu hung. It printed this to the terminal:

ERROR:/build/buildd/qemu-1.5.0+dfsg/ui/gtk.c:420:gd_switch: assertion
failed: (surface_stride(surface) == stride)

And it would not respond to ctrl-c or ctrl-z, so I had to kill -9 it
from another terminal.

[Bug 1267913] [NEW] juju relation-list doesn't report full units list when unit is down

2014-01-10 Thread Yolanda Robla
Public bug reported:

Testing rabbit active/active charm, found an issue. I add some clustered rabbit
units, for example 4 units. When i list all the relations with relation-list i
get the correct list:
INFO got units: ['rabbitmq-server/0', 'rabbitmq-server/1',
'rabbitmq-server/2']]

Then i stop rabbitmq-server/0 unit badly, with a nova stop. After i do
the same call i receive:

INFO got units: ['rabbitmq-server/0']

I can reproduce that every time i start/stop the instance. That's an
issue for HA because if first unit is stopped, i'm not able to add more
units and cluster with other ones.

[Bug 1267791] Re: Mongodb server don't start because of bad log folder owner

2014-01-10 Thread Nico T
Hello Jörg,

I tried the hotfix you suggested and it works.

At the same time I tried a fresh install in a virtualbox and mongodb-
server works out of the box.

It seems I'm the only one to have this problem so it might come from
something specific in my installation.

Thanks for your help,

Nicolas

[Bug 1267567] Re: walinuxagent not downloading ssh certificates

2014-01-10 Thread Stephen A. Zarkos
Hi Scott,

I'm not able to repro this using the current dev branch of the CLI tools
and the latest CustomData patches. Can you take a look at the latest
CustomData patches at the pull requests below. They are mostly similar
to yours and should port easily into the version of the xplat tools and
SDK you are using:

https://github.com/WindowsAzure/azure-sdk-tools-xplat/pull/1048
https://github.com/WindowsAzure/azure-sdk-for-node/pull/1054

One notable change is that we re-arranged roleschema.json a bit and moved the
CustomData section for both the Windows and Linux provisioning configuration
(to make it consistent for both platforms). I'm not sure yet if the issue you
are seeing is with the wire server or the agent, possibly the json is confusing
the API and so we end up not getting the certificates we need.

The --no-ssh-password problem may be related to this issue:
https://github.com/WindowsAzure/azure-sdk-tools-xplat/issues/1003
https://github.com/WindowsAzure/azure-sdk-tools-xplat/pull/1004

That fix may actually be in the most recent release of the CLI tools, it
does not repro in my installation. What version are you working with
now?

We should see the feature branch happening soon-ish that will include
the CustomData patches. I can let you know when that happens if you
want to test it.

I hope this helps.

Steve

[Bug 1266840] Re: maas-dns failed to install completely on Trusty

2014-01-10 Thread Jeff Lane
https://bugs.launchpad.net/maas/+bug/1035998/comments/2

Reading that comment, it suggests that the named.conf.maas file should
be empty by design so I created one like so:

sudo touch /etc/named/maas/named.conf.maas

and restarted bind and apache.

Then, I deleted my node and retried and it successfully commissioned and
declared.

From there, I was able to access it via the UI and click Commission
Node and the node turned on and successfully booted the commissioning
image. (It was failing before because DNS was never started, causing the
commissioning image to hang)

[Bug 1268050] [NEW] Deprovision breaks iDNS registration when using cloud-init

2014-01-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hello,

This is a request to please backport this patch from the 1.4.1 agent:
https://github.com/WindowsAzure/WALinuxAgent/commit/375f1ede38fd323c2560e7e21ba99ac50bc66acd

Summary
The Ubuntu images in the Windows Azure gallery (except for 12.10) all use
cloud-init for provisioning. This means that WALA provisioning and the
hostname monitor are disabled via /etc/waagent.conf.

However, when a user runs 'waagent -deprovision' the agent will attempt
to modify the 'send host-name' parameter dhclient.conf file to set the
hostname to localhost.localdomain. But with provisioning and the
monitor disabled, the agent does not have a chance to reset this
parameter to the proper hostname. So captured Ubuntu images will not
register their correct DNS name with the DHCP server.

In the Ubuntu images this behavior is not necessary since dhclient is
already configured to send its hostname to the DHCP server. This patch
makes the agent a bit smarter about this and leaves dhclient.conf alone
if it sees that it is already configured to send it's current hostname
to the DHCP server.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

actually ubuntu is using 3.8.1.

Is that a problem?

[Bug 1267728] Re: starts/stops in containers

2014-01-10 Thread Martin Pitt
** Changed in: apport (Ubuntu Trusty)
   Status: New = Fix Committed

** Description changed:

As soon as you start/stop a container, or install/remove apport in the
container, apport's init.d/upstart script change the global
/proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern and thus influence all other containers
  and the host.

Only the host should set core_pattern, and with
  https://code.launchpad.net/~stgraber/apport/pidns-support/+merge/200893
crashes in a container are now properly forwarded to the container's
  apport.
+
+ FIX: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-
+ dev/ubuntu/trusty/apport/ubuntu/revision/2274

  SRU TEST CASE (stop):
  - Check that apport is currently enabled:
    $ cat /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern
    |/usr/share/apport/apport %p %s %c

  - Start a container (that has apport installed):
    $ sudo lxc-start-ephemeral -o precise

  - Stop the container:
$ sudo poweroff # within the container

  - Apport is now disabled globally:
    $ cat /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern
    core

With the fixed apport, /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern should never be
  touched by the container.

  SRU TEST CASE (start):
  - Stop apport globally:
    $ sudo stop apport
    $ cat /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern
     core

  - Start a container (that has apport installed):
    $ sudo lxc-start-ephemeral -o precise

  - Apport is now globally enabled:
    $ cat /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern
    |/usr/share/apport/apport %p %s %c

With the fixed apport, /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern should never be
  touched by the container.

  SRU TEST CASE (regression test):

  - Starting/stopping apport manually should still work. After booting, apport
should be enabled:
- $ cat /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern
- |/usr/share/apport/apport %p %s %c
- $ sudo stop apport
- $ cat /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern
-core
- $ sudo start apport
- $ cat /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern
- |/usr/share/apport/apport %p %s %c
+   $ cat /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern
+   |/usr/share/apport/apport %p %s %c
+   $ sudo stop apport
+   $ cat /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern
+    core
+   $ sudo start apport
+   $ cat /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern
+   |/usr/share/apport/apport %p %s %c

REGRESSION POTENTIAL: In releases trusty, apport would not work in
containers at all, as the kernel calls the host's apport; before
  https://code.launchpad.net/~stgraber/apport/pidns-support/+merge/200893,
Apport did not forward crashes that happened in a container to the
container's apport, so for precise there is no regresssion potential.

[Bug 1267588] Re: can't logout from unity session

2014-01-10 Thread Roman
of course there is a bug in the spotify-client.
but... when i can't logout from unity session because one of 10's running
programs is broken, or can't exit - it is primary problem of unity.
other desktop environments is solving this problem - starting KDE, OsX, and
ending with Windows. unity may ask if i want to wait, or force exit.
http://ardamis.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/windows-program-still-needs-to-close.png

it's the same situation when unmounting usb devices - desktop is showing
me what program of is blocking that action.

[Bug 1253361] Re: Printer driver installation freezes

2014-01-10 Thread Fabien Lusseau
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1248303 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1248303

I have the same problem with my Canon Pixma MP450 and Ubuntu 13.10 !

System-config-printer try to install gutenprint, but is gutenprint
already installed ?!!! (it's one of the default packages)

And it sits right there for all eternity. I think I could wait 2 years
it will still not time out or something ...

I rebooted, I tried on a fresh install, I tried to use the second option
Local Driver and it's even worst ! Forward doesn't do anything !

The only way to make this printer install, is to click on gutenprint,
then, you cancel very fast the gutenprint installation, then you have
the traditional list of printers ! And now it's working ?!? (yes it does
work !)

Please fix your sh*t ubuntu devs ! Please make your modifications less
random and untested. How in the world, is an option to bypass something
(local driver) not even tested in real life ?! You are embarrassing
everybody !

This printer should not even ask for a driver install, as it works
perfectly with what is already there !

And why asking to install openprinting-gutenprint when gutenprint is
already installed ?! What is the difference ?

Please explain yourself ! Remove this anti-feature ... Because right
there, it's not a feature, it's a bug, and a big one indeed !

It feels like somebody had a good idea but never had a canon printer
handy to test with, or even to know if it worked. Man, it's tiring
sometime to see all theses untested features ...

I think the idea is for users with canon printer requiring proprietary
drivers. And for that, it's good and neat. But if your only choice is
gutenprint, ... to download and install gutenprint a second time, in
case having one copy of gutenprint wasn't enough, it's bullsh*t !!! This
choice shouldn't be there. Even if it worked properly !

It should be said, man, give a little more effort in your code ubuntu
team, make it more error resilient, everything you do should be
bypassed. It's a printer install wizard, why is this so badly butchered
!

And it's not the first time we have something like that in Ubuntu, in fact,
it's every time something new is coming from the ubuntu internal devs. Don't
rely that much on the users to test things ! You are tiring them. If it's
impossible to keep updating everything every 6 month, just stop this nonsense !
I'm using Ubuntu from 6.06, so I'm not a quitter, but I know why one would
want to stop caring about such a distribution and start searching somewhere
else. Ubuntu should really start to Eat is own dog food. That means, if you
make a change, make it such that yourself or another developer can test it in
real life with real hardware on the development release so most of the bugs are
seen and fixed by someone that may know better.
It's faster and way more reliable than making a modification in the dark,
waiting for a user that had enough to shout his anger to you all, don't know
what really appended that made this mess, and having to spend the time to read,
understand and decrypt what the problem is.

The fact is, despite the popularity of canon printers, I'm only the
second one reporting that bug, nobody takes time nowadays to make a bug
report if their is a workaround (in this case that is using cups web
interface). It should warn you at how much of your users you have
transformed in uncaring zombies. Even myself, as a long time ubuntu
user, I feel like making a bug report is now becoming nothing else than
wasting my time, waiting for something that will never appends, so might
as well wait for the next release.

Sometime I think as Ubuntu as a Linux distribution developed by peoples
on their Macs ! Some bugs are sometime so blatant that it feels like
nobody is using it, even the developers ! (I have a lot of bugs like
that in mind, for example, when you open a .deb with the Software
center, the home of the software center appears, then, after some more
time, the deb installer pops up. It's soo confusing !! A new user
will think that the packets was not opened properly ... So why is this
already 3/4 releases with this bug. Is this that difficult to make a
Please wait screen so the home screen don't show up ?!)

So well, I'm rambling, but, I'm very very tired of this, Ubuntu is my
work tool, and I make all I can do to make it more popular (I tell
everyone interested with Linux, I make videos about it, I'm contributing
to the french wiki about ubuntu, etc ...), and I'm so disappointed by
the lack of interest the developers have about their own work. The 6
month schedule doesn't help them in that aspect ... But even with that.
What a lack of perfectionism. Sometime you have to sit back and fix the
little details that makes the difference between something good and
something you really want to use ! And I hope 14.04 will be the end of
this nightmare !

PS: I'm sorry for the anger level of my post, but I wasted so much time
this night trying to find what

   Incomplete

 Bug description:
In Ubuntu 12.04 the Clickpad support now comes enabled by default.
However, pressing the ClickPad results in a left-click in all the
surface. It should be registered as a right-click if the ClickPad is

I am not sure if this is a bug or a design decision, but I think that
the missing functionality is important enough to be considered.

[Bug 1246364] Re: update-notifier does not show a tray icon in xubuntu 13.10

2014-01-10 Thread Forest
I'm attaching a patch against update-notifier 0.147.1 that restores tray
icon notifications. Once the patched version is installed, you'll want

update-notifier (or log out and back in).

If you don't want to mess around with source code, you can get patched builds
from my PPA:

[Bug 1163720] Re: Brightness control broken on XPS13 and 3.8.0-16, 3.8.0-22 and 3.11.0-12

2014-01-10 Thread Daniele Dellafiore
Is this supposed to be fixed? I have XPS13 (Feb 2013 edition, i7) with latest
saucy 3.11.0-15 and problem is still there.
Last kernel that works properly is

Linux slap 3.8.0-29-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Tue Aug 13 19:40:39 UTC 2013

which I am running right now, while the system is upgraded to Saucy and
the kernel is one used in the 13.04 series.

To be precise: the brigthness buttons make the brightness bar appear on
screen and go up and down correclty, but actual brightness is always at
the lowest possible level, never changes.

I don't understand why this happened, as *all* other software (not just editors

quick-find functionality.
I hope this will be fixed soon!

[Bug 1210852] Re: gvfsd-http assert failure in g_error_free()

2014-01-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher
@Christopher, Gulliver: I'm not sure why you want that specific fix
backported?

Reading the SRU description which was added, it seems you might think
the fix would resolve issue it probably doesn't. The change is to fix an
error handling, having the fix wouldn't fix the fact that gvfs hits an
error, it would just avoid triggering apport on it.

In any case no need to update gvfs to get the fix for that segfault, the commit
is a one liner
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gvfs/commit/?h=gnome-3-10id=de8ad26c71e14a15a3c5eeb05a73033dfccc8d85

Which should be easy to apply to the saucy version/SRU. Could you try to
build a package with it and see if that indeed fixes your issue?

[Bug 1265457] Re: merge cogl 1.16 from debian

2014-01-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks, did you try to rebuild the rdepends, is any needing change? Is
anyone in the Ubuntu GNOME available to help with rebuilding
universe/GNOME remix components ?

The update also enable the wayland backend, is that going to create any
new depends?

Do you know why that version is still in experimental in Debian?
