[Bug 1292548] Re: Standalone Server: Update from Samba 2:3.6.18-1ubuntu3.1 (saucy) to 2:4.1.3+dfsg-2ubuntu3 (trusty) breaks access to the server

2014-03-22 Thread Raoul Bhatia
Dear Robie,

actually, it is quite easy to reproduce during an update from saucy to
trusty and i suspect that this bug will even strike when you do a clean
trusty install.

Nevertheless, i reproduced this issue with a fresh saucy install:

1. install saucy using
http://at.mirror.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/saucy/main/installer-amd64/current/images/netboot/mini.iso
2. install openssh-server and samba-server during installation (via tasksel?)
3. reboot and verify samba status:
# root@ubuntu:~# smbstatus

Samba version 3.6.18
PID Username Group Machine
---

Service pid machine Connected at
---

No locked files

4. add a user and view list the available shares
# root@ubuntu:~# smbpasswd -a ubuntu
New SMB password:
Retype new SMB password:

# root@ubuntu:~# smbclient -L \\localhost -U ubuntu
Enter ubuntu's password:
Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.6.18]

Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.6.18]

Server Comment
----

5. do-release-upgrade -d (remove obsolete packages; reboot)

6. verify samba access (FAILS!)

[Bug 1294284] Re: LXC Ubuntu containers do not start in Ubuntu 14.04

2014-03-22 Thread Juho Lehto
I may have solved the problem after re-installing the server.

Before upgrading to 14.04 I made sure to check if Ubuntu Saucy container
starts and it did. Then I upgraded to 14.04 and created new Ubuntu
Trusty container. Both Saucy and Trusty containers started properly,
although both output some errors which I believe is normal.

Then I started re-applying all the changes I had made previously before
re-install. A problem appeared after I edited fstab to add
nodev/noexec/nosuid mount options. I already knew that I couldn't use
noexec for /var, but now both Ubuntu containers refused to even try to
start if I had nodev and nosuid mount options for /var. Debian Wheezy
container does start even with nodev and nosuid mount options.

Before re-install I had created symlinks to point from /var/lib/lxc to
/srv/lxc and /srv did not have these mount options. This might explain
the difference in what happened when I started the containers before and
after re-install.

So apparently I can't use nodev and nosuid mount options for /var even
if I use another partition without these mount options by using
symlinks. Meanwhile, Debian containers worked all this time.

I disagree on both.

The Categorical Browser is a historic feature which is is bound to be
removed from Aptitude and whose functionality has been superseeded by
the Debtags Browser for quite a while now.

See https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=717317#16 and
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=717317#16 for
reference.

So It's useless to invest time to fix anything in there, except maybe
patching out the menu entry if you really want users not to run into
this issue (which only appears on multi-arch systems btw., see
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=686124#10 for
reference).

[Bug 725327] Re: bash 4.2 does not save history (~/.bash_history) when using close window

2014-03-22 Thread Antonio J. de Oliveira
In Xubuntu Saucy 64-bit I had the same problem, somehow during
installation .bash_history was owned by root. Just had it modified by:

sudo chown user.user .bash_history

and

sudo chmod 755 .bash_history

and got my history back

Tim, I don't really understand xorg.conf syntax. I am attaching my
xorg.conf file in this comment. You can have a look. I never touch this
file manually. This file must be auto-generated by some programs. The
last modification date of this file is at yesterday.

[Bug 1294767] Re: Need upgrading for nv110 (maxwell gtx 750)

2014-03-22 Thread dino99
** Description changed:

  Testcase:

i was succesfully using that driver with an old 8500gt nvidia card plugged
within vga.
Upgrading to a new gtx 750 card plugged within hdmi 1.3, nouveau cant be used
because the bios process is stopped at:

fb: conflicting fb hw usage nouveaufb ...

So to support that gtx750 card, i've installed nvidia 334.21 from joe-
yasi/xorg-related ppa, and blacklisted vga16fb, nvidiafb, rivafb and
rivatv inside /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf file. Note that the actual
Trusty archive only propose the 331 driver, so adding the 334 asap
should be a good move too.

  Results about these tweaks:
- - the display is usable, but, the displayed font quality is worst than before
(it was superb) ; (mesa was also update to 10.2, so maybe related ?)
+ - the display is usable, but, the displayed font quality is worst than before
(it was superb) ;
  - the lcd display is a 22 1920x1080, but it is found as a 42 1920x1080 by
both the kernel and nvidia (nouveau was working fine with the 8500 gt). So i
need to downsized now to 1680 to get the menu/topbar/buttons; otherwise they
are not seen.

  To resume:
  - need nouveau working with nv110 family
  - need 334.21 driver added to archive

[Bug 1295963] [NEW] the official packages for gambas3 is wrong

2014-03-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hello and Thank you for your great OS.
I am currently using Mint 16 Cinnamon 64bits,
the official packages are these from Ubuntu saucy
'http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu saucy'
(Cinnamon 2.0.14 is installed )

After installing the official gambas3 package
The version 3.1.1 is installed. this version contains a bug i think or a bugged
component:
The cursor ist not correct placed in the gambas3 editor when i type a long
instruction.

Installing a newer version solve the problem:
I have done this at home:
-
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nemh/gambas3
sudo apt-get update
udo apt-get install gambas3
-
This install the Gambas version 3.5.2 and it appaers ok.
-
Gambas is a good IDE i think for the people like me. It's easy to use.
-
I thank you in advance.

2014-03-22 Thread Paul Gevers
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1254262 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1254262

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a
duplicate of bug 1254262, so it is being marked as such.

Summary of that bug: It seems that you are not using a software package
provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this the Ubuntu
project can not support or fix your particular bug. Please report this
bug to the provider of the software package. Thanks!

Ubuntu never provided a fpc package with real content, it has always
been a meta-package.

In your case, please remove fpc first and then install it.

apt-get remove fpc
apt-get install fpc

[Bug 1292548] Re: Standalone Server: Update from Samba 2:3.6.18-1ubuntu3.1 (saucy) to 2:4.1.3+dfsg-2ubuntu3 (trusty) breaks access to the server

2014-03-22 Thread Raoul Bhatia
Dear Robie,

actually, it is quite easy to reproduce during an update from saucy to
trusty and i suspect that this bug will even strike when you do a clean
trusty install.

Nevertheless, i reproduced this issue with a fresh saucy install:

1. install saucy using
http://at.mirror.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/saucy/main/installer-amd64/current/images/netboot/mini.iso
2. install openssh-server and samba-server during installation (via tasksel?)
3. reboot and verify samba status:
# root@ubuntu:~# smbstatus

Samba version 3.6.18
PID Username Group Machine
---

Service pid machine Connected at
---

No locked files

4. add a user and view list the available shares
# root@ubuntu:~# smbpasswd -a ubuntu
New SMB password:
Retype new SMB password:

# root@ubuntu:~# smbclient -L \\localhost -U ubuntu
Enter ubuntu's password:

5. do-release-upgrade -d (remove obsolete packages; reboot)

6. verify samba access (FAILS!)

[Bug 1288572] Re: Nvidia driver does not work in Ubuntu GNOME trusty 14.04 (Optimus laptop)

2014-03-22 Thread Tim
It is now (as of recently) generated by gpu-manager (which is part of
ubuntu-drivers-common). Actually quite a few changes have landed to
various components related to nvidia prime since you posted the correct
results.

I am marking this bug as fix released since I'm fairly confident the
gnome-shell issues are resolved. I also believe that gdm will work
properly once the case of non-existent display is fixed. If there are
further gdm issues after that please follow up that issue on Bug
1262068.

Please file a new bug for the non-existent display issue with xrandr
outputs and Xorg logs, hopefully the Ubuntu devs will have more of an
idea to figure that out!

I hope this helps somebody.

[Bug 1284466] Re: [Inspiron 1420, SigmaTel STAC9228, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2014-03-22 Thread Raymond
this mean this patch is correct since jack detection of node 0x0f is
normal

https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/tiwai/sound.git/commit/sound/pci/hda/patch_sigmatel.c?id=f3e351eef3a7fd1e36a3e18d4f2f069b00deb23c

/* correct the front output jack as a hp out */
- { 0x0f, 0x0227011f },
+ { 0x0f, 0x0221101f },

https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/tiwai/sound.git/commit/sound/pci/hda/patch_sigmatel.c?id=eefb8be4a4fb4aa9005fc092a88d66fe7cf1adc2

but it is strange that the fixup change back to 0x0227011f

/* correct the front output jack as a hp out */
{ 0x0f, 0x0227011f },

but node 0x0a is abnormal , you need to suppress the jack detection by
set bit 8 of pin-default of node 0x0a

[Bug 1295986] [NEW] After checking for updates, apper incorrectly shows system is up to date

2014-03-22 Thread Andrej Mernik
Public bug reported:

How to reproduce:

Open Apper, and click Updates. Then click on Check for new updates and
wait for the process to finish. After that Apper will show that system
is up to date, however, this is often not true. If you click back to get
into the main menu and then again click on Updates, Apper will correctly
show that there are indeed available updates.

[Bug 1294580] Re: indicator-datetime-service panel clock freezes

2014-03-22 Thread Charles Kerr
Judging from that backtrace it's blocking in
e_dbus_calendar_call_get_timezone_sync(), which is being called from
e_cal_client_get_timezone_sync(), which in turn is being called from
generate_instances() after being called asynchronously from indicator-
datetime via a call to e_cal_client_generate_instances().

indicator-datetime is already invoking this as an asynchronous function,
so you could argue that this is a lesser bug in EDS -- it shouldn't
block. Even then, though, I don't understand why its call of
e_cal_client_get_timezone_sync() would take a couple of *seconds*.

Kees, do you have any interesting configuration settings in Evolution /
EDS that might account for such a lag? Do you have a lot of calendar
sources, remotely-connected/mounted sources, an unusual number of
appointments, etc etc?

[Bug 1295987] [NEW] openjdk6 regression causes finalizers never to be called

2014-03-22 Thread Alex Bligh
Public bug reported:

Upgrading openjdk6 from 6b27-1.12.6-1ubuntu0.12.04.4 to
6b30-1.13.1-1ubuntu2~0.12.04.1 (Precise update in Jan / Feb 2014) causes
finalizers not to run reliably. Whilst it is good practice to avoid use
of finalizers, JDBC uses them to close connections, sockets use them to
close sockets etc., and after this upgrade both of them leak apparently
randomly under moderate load.

This is difficult to replicate but we believe it is due to:
https://java.net/jira/browse/OPENJDK6-29 which was introduced in b28.
The critical sentences here are: This can cause mayhem in the JVM
because the flag fields at the end of the struct end up taking values
determined by the contents of the stack frame where info is allocated.
In particular, it can cause the post-jdk6-b28 GC to enqueue discovered
References using the wrong link field which means that no reference
processing (including finalization) occurs.

This is fixed in b31, and the fix is a one line obviously correct change:
  http://hg.openjdk.java.net/jdk6/jdk6/jdk/rev/04e4c3ec6516

which correctly memset's a structure to zero, as opposed to only setting
the first 8 bytes (64 bit) or 4 bytes (32 bit) to zero.

As this is a clear regression caused by an update with a substantial
impact (unresolvable memory leaks of objects with finalizers, other
resource leaks including FD leaks), I think this is an SRU candidate for
Precise (which is where we are seeing it).

[Bug 1175601] Re: Two Chromium background instances and a browser window open on boot without my permission

2014-03-22 Thread Thaddäus Tintenfisch
Thanks for your quick reply. The session manager always tries to restore
a previously saved session (~/.cache/sessions/). According to the dozens
of reports and forum threads, this seems to happen regardless of the
setting to automatically save the session on logout. Only deleting the
cache manually resolves this problem for most users.

[Bug 1295900] Re: lubuntu screen corruption only on cold boot.

2014-03-22 Thread thom
** Description changed:

  steps:
  1) cold boot (power on)
  2) choose boot (grub)
  3) login (lightdm)

When logging in, the login rectangle doesn't disappear like it should.

  4) Xorg starts

Desktop appears but the outline of the login-rectangle is still there.

Also everything else that is drawn on the screen stays drawn (i.e.
closed windows are still visable, a moved window leaves a trail) as if
the system forgets to erase previously drawn objects.

Strangely enough, the mousepointer doesn't seem to be affected.

- 5) logout (to lightdm)
- or: sudo restart lightdm
- or: sudo killall -SIGTERM Xorg
- or: sudo reboot
+ 5) sudo restart lightdm

  6) login again

Everything is suddenly working as it should ( high order magic ?? )

I have had this problem before with kernels newer than 3.13.0-8 but a
kernel header install followed by a kernel image reinstall would always
  fix it.

Since kernel 3.13.0-18 this fix doesn't work anymore.

I assume the problem is not directly in X (??) maybe in kernel (??)
since it first appears in lightdm (before X starts)

[Bug 1295994] [NEW] Unable to use Printscreen Button on Ubuntu 14.04

2014-03-22 Thread Marcuz93
Public bug reported:

Hi, I am trying Ubuntu 14.04 and I noticed that Printscreen button
doesn't work. I had no problems in 13.10. If I run gnome-screenshot,
or gnome-screenshot -a in a Terminal it says Unable to use GNOME
Shell's builtin screenshot interface, resorting to fallback X11. Can
anyone help? Thanks

[Bug 977228] Re: [Ubuntu 12.04] gnome-screenshot forgets last-save-directory

2014-03-22 Thread Alexandru G
In 13.10 I encounter same behavior as @deveee mentioned in #17

Shortcuts does not respect `org.gnome.gnome-screenshot` setting. (ex: ALT +
PrtScr)
If I start gnome-screenshot (3.10.1) from terminal it respects
`org.gnome.gnome-screenshot` setting.
