[Bug 1294267] Re: tgt doesn't export some LUNs after a reload operation (SIGHUP)
Hi Serge Hallyn, I run some new tests and, in short, the problem I found is actually three problems (maybe this bug should be broke in three). I will summarize the problems I found: - Tgtd breaks when it receives a SIGHUP; - When we send a SIGHUP to tgtd (`reload tgt`), the deamon stops (and it logs an fault in syslog), and then upstart respawns the deamon. It is, run `reload tgt` appears to be equivalent to run `kill -9 TGT_ROOT_PID; start tgt;`; - Tgtd has an unexpected behavior when we run a `restart tgt` or a `stop tgt; start tgt` command; - When tgtd stops and closes the devices, the system will probably run a `blkid` in this devices. So, when tgtd starts again, some devices may be still opened by the blkid command, and neither tgtd or `tgt-admin -e` will add this device (I'm considering allow-in-use is configured to off in this moment); - The `stop tgt` command really stops tgtd even if some LUNs still in use; - This can cause data corruption. Debian wheezy (https://packages.debian.org/source/wheezy/tgt) solves these problem using the initd.sample from upstream. In the next explanations, I'm using the source code found in: http://packages.ubuntu.com/source/precise/tgt - Tgtd breaks when it receives a SIGHUP: From the initd.sample file (tgt-1.0.17/scripts/initd.sample, line 79): reload() { echo Updating target framework daemon configuration # Update configuration for targets. Only targets which # are not in use will be updated. tgt-admin --update ALL -c $TGTD_CONFIG /dev/null RETVAL=$? if [ $RETVAL -eq 107 ] ; then echo tgtd is not running exit 1 fi } It is, the `service tgt reload` command will run a `tgt-admin --update ALL` command, and this last command works fine. The `service tgt reload` command DOESN'T send a SIGHUP signal in Debian (and in all Linux distributions that uses the initd.sample file). I don't see how fix this in Ubuntu using upstart, because in Ubuntu 12.04 Upstart always send a SIGHUP signal. In newer versions of Ubuntu we can use the `reload signal` stanza, but we can't run a script (`tgt- admin --update ALL`) when `reload tgt` was called. - Tgtd has an unexpected behavior when we run a `restart tgt` or a `stop tgt; start tgt` command: First, let's read the tgt-admin source code (tgt-1.0.17/scripts/tgt- admin, line 1240): # Check if userspace uses this device my $lsof_check = check_exe(lsof); if ($lsof_check ne 1) { system(lsof $backing_store /dev/null); my $exit_value = $? 8; if ($exit_value eq 0) { execute(# Device $backing_store is used (already tgtd target?).); execute(# Run 'lsof $backing_store' to see the details.); return 0; } } It is, when `tgt-admin -e` (in the `post-start` stanza) is executed, if some device still opened (in our case, by the `blkid` command), we can add this device as a LUN. In my attachment tgt.override, a hack was proposed to avoid this problem. However, my tests showed that waiting one second between stops and starts tgtd solves the problem. Actually, 0.3 second waiting solved my problem in all tests (but 1 second is a more secure interval). From the initd.sample file (tgt-1.0.17/scripts/initd.sample, line 125): restart) TASK=restart stop start ;; And from line 19: # Put tgtd into offline state until all the targets are configured. # We don't want initiators to (re)connect and fail the connection # if it's not ready. tgtadm --op update --mode sys --name State -v offline # Configure the targets. tgt-admin -e -c $TGTD_CONFIG # Put tgtd into ready state. tgtadm --op update --mode sys --name State -v ready A fix for this problem can be: # Put tgtd into offline state until all the targets are configured. # We don't want initiators to (re)connect and fail the connection # if it's not ready. tgtadm --op update --mode sys --name State -v offline + # Wait the system free the backing-stores (a `blkid` command + # may still be running) + # See: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tgt/+bug/1294267 + [ $TASK == restart ] sleep 1 # Configure the targets. tgt-admin -e -c $TGTD_CONFIG # Put tgtd into ready state. tgtadm --op update --mode sys --name State -v ready - The `stop tgt` command really stops tgtd even if some LUNs still in use: Let's see the source code again (tgt-1.0.17/scripts/initd.sample, line 35): # Remove all targets. It only removes targets which are not in use. tgt-admin --update ALL -c /dev/null /dev/null # tgtd will exit if all targets were removed tgtadm --op delete --mode system /dev/null RETVAL=$? if

[Bug 1299975] [NEW] wireless script checks wrong sys file
Public bug reported: On Trusty (beta), while trying to diagnose an issue with the wireless not connecting upon resume from standby, I discovered an invalid check in '/usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/wireless'. The script checks '/sys/class/net/$1/device/enable' to see if the wireless device is enabled, failing to perform any configuration if this sys file does not exist. That happens to be the case for me (intel wireless), which the actual location is '/sys/class/net/$1/device/enabled' (enable - enabled). Changing the script to use the correct location has not fixed my wireless resume issue, but perhaps it is contributing to wireless issues for others. [Bug 1299989] [NEW] maas-dns fails to install without python-seamicroclient
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I'm reporting the symptom, but I think more fundamentally it means that a maas-region-admin invocation in the packaging scripts for maas-dns creates an implicit back-dependency on maas-region-controller. Maybe it's an invocation that can simply be skipped if maas-region-controller is not present. Here's what I get while installing prerequisites for maas-region- controller, but not yet maas-region-controller itself, on an up-to-date Trusty system as of 2014-03-31: Setting up maas-dns (1.5+bzr2203+2205+257~ppa0~ubuntu14.04.1) ... [Bug 969489] Re: lightdm tries (and fails) to start too early?
Avius: When lightdm fails to start, do you get sometimes X started up in safe mode as per Comment 2 from Serge ? Your problem seems different as your your logs show that lightdm can successfully start and connect to the X server, and something happens during your login. Relevant extract from your logs below: [+3.06s] DEBUG: Seat: Display server ready, starting session authentication [...] [+5.80s] DEBUG: Session pid=1330: Started with service 'lightdm', username 'avius' [+5.80s] DEBUG: Session pid=1032: Greeter start authentication for avius [+5.80s] DEBUG: Session pid=1330: Sending SIGTERM [+5.80s] DEBUG: Seat: Setting XDG_SEAT=seat0 [+5.80s] DEBUG: Session: Setting XDG_VTNR=7 [+5.80s] DEBUG: Session pid=1331: Started with service 'lightdm', username 'avius' [+5.80s] DEBUG: Got signal 15 from process 991 [+5.80s] DEBUG: Caught Terminated signal, shutting down Could your problem be related to authentication ? Is your system set to autologin? Have you tried logging into the console and running 'start lightdm'? As per comment #97, lightdm (which in turn starts X) can be started before the display kernel modules are fully loaded (creating a race). The problem is most apparent to people running Ubuntu from an SSD. On my PC, the one line fix delays the lightdm start sufficiently for the kernel display modules to be fully loaded. It's really working on my system: ls -ltr /var/log/Xorg* -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 69099 Sep 13 2013 /var/log/Xorg.failsafe.log.old -penultimate start of X into failsafe mode before performing the workaround -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 69514 Mar 8 14:17 /var/log/Xorg.failsafe.log - last start of X into failsafe mode while getting this down to a one liner in March -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 31975 Mar 28 19:11 /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 30869 Mar 30 10:58 /var/log/Xorg.0.log There are other workarounds from other people in this thread, which seem to have the same effect - for example someone suggests in comment #114 to make the startup verbose, which seems to solve the problem for that person. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/969489 Title: lightdm tries (and fails) to start too early? [Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.
** Description changed: *** The old PPA, ppa:attente/1218322 is superceded by the following one. You can remove the old repository using ppa-purge. *** A PPA which should provide some relief for this issue is available at https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/modifier-only-input-switch. To install: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:attente/modifier-only-input-switch sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade (log out, log in) If the packages improve the situation for you, you can pin them using: sudo apt-mark hold compiz sudo apt-mark hold gnome-settings-daemon sudo apt-mark hold unity If the packages don't work for you, you can purge them using: sudo ppa-purge ppa:attente/modifier-only-input-switch === compiz === Impact: modifier-only key bindings need to be independent of key-press order, there's no support for double tapping two modifier keys of the same type Test case: - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry settings - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift: gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source ['PrimaryShift_L'] - holding left shift, press and release ctrl - the current input source should change Regression potential: possible, but highly unlikely, that some key bindings may be triggered due to the removal of some code that would normally prevent a possible tap from occurring. === unity === Impact: gnome-settings-daemon eats modifier-only shortcuts preventing them from propagating down to applications Test case: - open gnome-control-center's text input settings - set the next input source key binding to ctrl+left shift - open gnome-terminal - press ctrl+shift+t - gnome-terminal should open a new tab Regression potential: the additional input switch key bindings could collide with other functionality such as opening the dash or hud === gnome-control-center === Impact: the UI to change the layout switching keys doesn't work Test case: - open gnome-control-center's text input settings - click on the next layout key entry - try entering a key combinaison (e.g ctrl-space) - the UI should reflect the new keys Regression potential: that UI was not working before, it should only be an improvement (some key combos are not working as expected, that's another issue and shouldn't be mixed with this one) === gnome-settings-daemon === Impact: attempting to change keyboard layouts using only modifier keys doesn't work Test case: - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry settings - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift: gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source ['PrimaryShift_L'] - press and release ctrl+left shift - the current input source should change Regression potential: The input switching shortcut might capture other non-modifier shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when choosing their switching shortcut anyways. [Bug 1222602] Re: [regression] [gen3] Mesa 9.2 makes Unity unusable on Atom class hardware and 943/945 graphics controllers
Okay, I did a few more tests... - the external monitor is connected at boot time, I disconnected it when the login screen is displayed, logged in, no high cpu usage - logged out, connected the monitor, logged in, HIGH CPU USAGE - logged out, disconnected the monitor, logged in, no high cpu usage So, up to and including LightDM's login screen, everything is fine. (The date/time indicator on the login screen pops up the calender immediately for example; when I'm logged into Unity with high cpu usage, the calender only pops up in super slow motion.) When I log into Unity and the external monitor is connected at the time, I get high cpu usage. When I log into Unity with the monitor disconnected, I do not get high cpu usage. When I connect the monitor once Unity is up, everything works fine, too. BTW, I also have KDE Plasma Workspaces installed, and I don't see any signs of high cpu usage or graphical slowdowns when I log into that one, even when the external monitor is connected the whole time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1222602 Title: [regression] [gen3] Mesa 9.2 makes Unity unusable on Atom class hardware and 943/945 graphics controllers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mesa/+bug/1222602/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1256588] Re: PPC: LiveCD installation window vanishes during installation
2.15.9 is a bit old. It is from the middle of saucy. 2.15.26 should work since it is the version from saucy (which I think passsed?). 2.17.0 was the first trusty release and is what is on this bug report. So I would start with those two versions. You seem to have the right idea. If it complains about a dependency then just install it. It can be a bit of a fiddle because apt doesn't like broken packages and won't install others until they are fixed. I often end up upgrading the broken package, install dependency, then downgrade package again. [Bug 1299719] [NEW] 5 minutes inactivity on a lock screen causes 2nd locking
Public bug reported: If you don't type password on the lock screen and leave it inactive for 5 minutes system decides that it's reason to lock screen again. And system locks screen again automatically when you unlock it. Ubuntu 14.04 unity-greeter 14.04.6-ubuntu1 Steps to reproduce this bug: 1. Leave system inactive for 5 minutes (or more). 2. After 5 minutes of inactivity (5 minutes is default timeout for screen locking) screen fades to black (turns off) and system locks. 3. After screen locking just move mouse or press any key. 4. Lock screen (unity-greeter) appears with password prompt. 5. Don't type password and again leave system inactive for 5 minutes (or more). 6. After 5 minutes of inactivity on lock screen screen doesn't turn off. 7. Enter your password on the lock screen and unlock system. 8. System unlocks but in 5-10 seconds it locks again (because of 5 minutes inactivity on lock screen). 9. Enter your password on the lock screen again and unlock system 2nd time. 10. Now you can continue to work with system. Expected: On step 6: 6. After 5 minutes of inactivity on lock screen screen turns off again (without locking, because it already locked). On step 8: 8. System unlocks fine without automatic 2nd screen locking in 5-10 seconds. ** Affects: unity-greeter (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1299719 Title: 5 minutes inactivity on a lock screen causes 2nd locking To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-greeter/+bug/1299719/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1299727] [NEW] init --user 100% one core, 2,5 GB memory taken
Public bug reported: As in summary. I didn't track the exact steps to reproduce, it seems to happen when idle. Also Nicotine and Apport have similar issues, so maybe python is to blame? Started to happen only recently, so probably one of the latest updates introduced this regression.
