  * Apply various warning-suppression and regression-test fixes to
gssapi.patch from Damien Miller.
  * New upstream release (http://www.openssh.com/txt/release-6.6,

- CVE-2014-2532: sshd(8): when using environment passing with an
  sshd_config(5) AcceptEnv pattern with a wildcard, OpenSSH prior to 6.6
  could be tricked into accepting any environment variable that contains
  the characters before the wildcard character.
  * Re-enable btmp logging, as its permissions were fixed a long time ago in
response to #370050 (closes: #341883).
  * Change to PermitRootLogin without-password for new installations, and
ask a debconf question when upgrading systems with PermitRootLogin yes
from previous versions (closes: #298138).
  * Debconf translations:
- Danish (thanks, Joe Hansen).
- Portuguese (thanks, Américo Monteiro).

- Italian (thanks, Beatrice Torracca).
  * Don't start ssh-agent from the Upstart user session job if something
like Xsession has already done so (based on work by Bruno Vasselle;

[Bug 1294267] Re: tgt doesn't export some LUNs after a reload operation (SIGHUP)

2014-03-30 Thread Rarylson Freitas
Hi Serge Hallyn,

I run some new tests and, in short, the problem I found is actually three
problems (maybe this bug should be broke in three).
I will summarize the problems I found:

- Tgtd breaks when it receives a SIGHUP;
  - When we send a SIGHUP to tgtd (`reload tgt`), the deamon stops (and it logs
an fault in syslog), and then upstart respawns the deamon. It is, run `reload
tgt` appears to be equivalent to run `kill -9 TGT_ROOT_PID; start tgt;`;
- Tgtd has an unexpected behavior when we run a `restart tgt` or a `stop tgt;
start tgt` command;
  - When tgtd stops and closes the devices, the system will probably run a
`blkid` in this devices. So, when tgtd starts again, some devices may be still
opened by the blkid command, and neither tgtd or `tgt-admin -e` will add this
device (I'm considering allow-in-use is configured to off in this moment);
- The `stop tgt` command really stops tgtd even if some LUNs still in use;
  - This can cause data corruption.

Debian wheezy (https://packages.debian.org/source/wheezy/tgt) solves
these problem using the initd.sample from upstream.

In the next explanations, I'm using the source code found in:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/source/precise/tgt

- Tgtd breaks when it receives a SIGHUP:

From the initd.sample file (tgt-1.0.17/scripts/initd.sample, line 79):

reload()
{
echo Updating target framework daemon configuration
# Update configuration for targets. Only targets which
# are not in use will be updated.
tgt-admin --update ALL -c $TGTD_CONFIG /dev/null
RETVAL=$?
if [ $RETVAL -eq 107 ] ; then
echo tgtd is not running
exit 1
fi
}

It is, the `service tgt reload` command will run a `tgt-admin --update
ALL` command, and this last command works fine. The `service tgt reload`
command DOESN'T send a SIGHUP signal in Debian (and in all Linux
distributions that uses the initd.sample file).

I don't see how fix this in Ubuntu using upstart, because in Ubuntu
12.04 Upstart always send a SIGHUP signal. In newer versions of Ubuntu
we can use the `reload signal` stanza, but we can't run a script (`tgt-
admin --update ALL`) when `reload tgt` was called.

- Tgtd has an unexpected behavior when we run a `restart tgt` or a `stop
tgt; start tgt` command:

First, let's read the tgt-admin source code (tgt-1.0.17/scripts/tgt-
admin, line 1240):

# Check if userspace uses this device
my $lsof_check = check_exe(lsof);
if ($lsof_check ne 1) {
system(lsof $backing_store /dev/null);
my $exit_value  = $?  8;
if ($exit_value eq 0) {
execute(# Device $backing_store is used (already tgtd
target?).);
execute(# Run 'lsof $backing_store' to see the
details.);
return 0;
}
}

It is, when `tgt-admin -e` (in the `post-start` stanza) is executed, if
some device still opened (in our case, by the `blkid` command), we can
add this device as a LUN.

In my attachment tgt.override, a hack was proposed to avoid this
problem. However, my tests showed that waiting one second between stops
and starts tgtd solves the problem. Actually, 0.3 second waiting solved
my problem in all tests (but 1 second is a more secure interval).

From the initd.sample file (tgt-1.0.17/scripts/initd.sample, line 125):

restart)
TASK=restart
stop  start
;;

And from line 19:

# Put tgtd into offline state until all the targets are configured.
# We don't want initiators to (re)connect and fail the connection
# if it's not ready.
tgtadm --op update --mode sys --name State -v offline
# Configure the targets.
tgt-admin -e -c $TGTD_CONFIG
# Put tgtd into ready state.
tgtadm --op update --mode sys --name State -v ready

A fix for this problem can be:

# Put tgtd into offline state until all the targets are configured.
# We don't want initiators to (re)connect and fail the connection
# if it's not ready.
tgtadm --op update --mode sys --name State -v offline
+   # Wait the system free the backing-stores (a `blkid` command
+ # may still be running)
+   # See: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tgt/+bug/1294267
+   [ $TASK == restart ]  sleep 1
# Configure the targets.
tgt-admin -e -c $TGTD_CONFIG
# Put tgtd into ready state.
tgtadm --op update --mode sys --name State -v ready

- The `stop tgt` command really stops tgtd even if some LUNs still in
use:

Let's see the source code again (tgt-1.0.17/scripts/initd.sample, line
35):

# Remove all targets. It only removes targets which are not in use.
tgt-admin --update ALL -c /dev/null /dev/null
# tgtd will exit if all targets were removed
tgtadm --op delete --mode system /dev/null
RETVAL=$?
if

[Bug 1299964] [NEW] make Ubuntu logo more Ubuntu-y

2014-03-30 Thread Dustin Kirkland 
Public bug reported:

The previous Ubuntu logo was white on aubergine. Really, this is
Ubuntu, not Canonical, and we should be highlighting the Ubuntu orange.
Also, in the prompt, we should use orange for the hostname and aubergine
for the current working directory.

[Bug 1299972] [NEW] Default site config is ambiguous in PHP block (precise)

2014-03-30 Thread Thomas Ward
Public bug reported:

In the default sites-available configuration file, it is ambiguous which
line to use for PHP files in a proxy_pass.

It also uses an incorrect configuration line for the PHP files. It may
need modified to adapt for this so that php5-fpm+nginx setups work out
of the box on the default configurations for Precise.

--

I am marking this Triaged and Low because this is a low-priority bug
and because this was initially reported to me in comments on Ask Ubuntu
(see this comment: http://askubuntu.com/questions/134666/what-is-the-
easiest-way-to-enable-php-on-
nginx/134676?noredirect=1#comment576704_134676 ), and I have actually
confirmed this to be the case. (see http://bazaar.launchpad.net
/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/precise/nginx/precise-
updates/view/head:/debian/conf/sites-available/default#L67 )

Fixing this is as simple as changing the configuration lines here so
they have different comments on which line to use.

[Bug 1299975] [NEW] wireless script checks wrong sys file

2014-03-30 Thread savage
Public bug reported:

On Trusty (beta), while trying to diagnose an issue with the wireless
not connecting upon resume from standby, I discovered an invalid check
in '/usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/wireless'.  The script checks
'/sys/class/net/$1/device/enable' to see if the wireless device is
enabled, failing to perform any configuration if this sys file does not
exist. That happens to be the case for me (intel wireless), which the
actual location is '/sys/class/net/$1/device/enabled' (enable -
enabled).

Changing the script to use the correct location has not fixed my
wireless resume issue, but perhaps it is contributing to wireless issues
for others. My wireless power-saving is correctly turned off upon
resume now, though (it would get stuck in power-saving mode sometimes).

[Bug 1299989] [NEW] maas-dns fails to install without python-seamicroclient

2014-03-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm reporting the symptom, but I think more fundamentally it means that
a maas-region-admin invocation in the packaging scripts for maas-dns
creates an implicit back-dependency on maas-region-controller. Maybe
it's an invocation that can simply be skipped if maas-region-controller
is not present.

[Bug 1222602] Re: [regression] [gen3] Mesa 9.2 makes Unity unusable on Atom class hardware and 943/945 graphics controllers

2014-03-30 Thread Christian S.
For your crt/lcd monitor - maybe this issue depends on the resolution
of the external screen.

Does appear that issue if you have connected your screen at boot-time,
then disconnected when the lightdm login screen is showing and you
logged in (without connected external screen)?

Today I had the problem again. Booted and did login (external monitor connected
over vga but not used for output)- high compiz cpu usage
logged out and in again - high cpu
disonnected monitor, logged out, logged in - normal compiz cpu usage
again logged out/in - normal compiz cpu usage
connected monitor again, logged out/in - high compiz cpu usage again (still
the external monitor is not used for output)

[Bug 1299309] Re: grub2 efi failed to install

Thank you for the quick reply.

I had in fact created a new partition table on that usb and made a new
partition before burning the iso, but something must have gone wrong or
perhaps there is another problem with that usb.

I reformatted a different usb for the installer and this time the
install succeeded without problems.

[Bug 969489] Re: lightdm tries (and fails) to start too early?

2014-03-30 Thread Ciprian Enache
Avius: When lightdm fails to start, do you get sometimes X started up in
safe mode as per Comment 2 from Serge ?

Your problem seems different as your your logs show that lightdm can
successfully start and connect to the X server, and something happens during
your login. Relevant extract from your logs below:
[+3.06s] DEBUG: Seat: Display server ready, starting session authentication
[...]
[+5.80s] DEBUG: Session pid=1330: Started with service 'lightdm', username
'avius'
[+5.80s] DEBUG: Session pid=1032: Greeter start authentication for avius
[+5.80s] DEBUG: Session pid=1330: Sending SIGTERM
[+5.80s] DEBUG: Seat: Setting XDG_SEAT=seat0
[+5.80s] DEBUG: Session: Setting XDG_VTNR=7
[+5.80s] DEBUG: Session pid=1331: Started with service 'lightdm', username
'avius'
[+5.80s] DEBUG: Got signal 15 from process 991
[+5.80s] DEBUG: Caught Terminated signal, shutting down

Could your problem be related to authentication ? Is your system set to
autologin?
Have you tried logging into the console and running 'start lightdm'?

As per comment #97, lightdm (which in turn starts X) can be started before the
display kernel modules are fully loaded (creating a race). The problem is most
apparent to people running Ubuntu from an SSD. On my PC, the one line fix
delays the lightdm start sufficiently for the kernel display modules to be
fully loaded. It's really working on my system:

ls -ltr /var/log/Xorg*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 69099 Sep 13  2013 /var/log/Xorg.failsafe.log.old
-penultimate start of X into failsafe mode before performing the workaround
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 69514 Mar  8 14:17 /var/log/Xorg.failsafe.log - last
start of X into failsafe mode while getting this down to a one liner in March
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 31975 Mar 28 19:11 /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 30869 Mar 30 10:58 /var/log/Xorg.0.log

There are other workarounds from other people in this thread, which seem
to have the same effect - for example someone suggests in comment #114
to make the startup verbose, which seems to solve the problem for that
person.

2014-03-30 Thread gheorghe
if you dont have synaptic or aptitude will be very hard to do smth.

I can suggest you to download the .deb package for synaptic or aptitude and to
try to install them manually. maybe it will work.
Or if not you will have two ways: One solution will be to reinstall the system.
or to wait till the bug is fixed.

[Bug 1280141] Re: Latest chromium upgrade have broken pepperflashplugin detection

2014-03-30 Thread dino99
Here is the about:version details:

/usr/lib/chromium-browser/chromium-browser --ppapi-flash-path=/usr/lib
/pepperflashplugin-nonfree/libpepflashplayer.so --ppapi-flash-
version=12.0.0.44 --enable-pinch --flag-switches-begin --flag-switches-
end

and the status:

oem@dev32:~$ update-pepperflashplugin-nonfree --status
ERROR: must be root
More information might be available at:
  http://wiki.debian.org/PepperFlashPlayer
oem@dev32:~$ sudo update-pepperflashplugin-nonfree --status
[sudo] password for oem:
Flash Player version installed on this system : 12.0.0.44
Flash Player version available on upstream site: 12.0.0.77

So Trusty is using the 12.0.0.44 from its archive. Maybe it needs the
latest 12.0.0.77 one.

With the latest update it shows all all-day events correctly for all
previous date than present-day(today). But it still doesn't show all
all-day events ( past events with time) for present-day (today). I have
to select a previous date to know about today's event. The behavior
should be same for any date in indicator-datetime including present-

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2014-03-30 Thread Norbert
** Description changed:

  ***
  The old PPA, ppa:attente/1218322 is superceded by the following one. You can
remove the old repository using ppa-purge.
  ***

  A PPA which should provide some relief for this issue is available at
  https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/modifier-only-input-switch. To
  install:

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:attente/modifier-only-input-switch
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade
  (log out, log in)

  If the packages improve the situation for you, you can pin them using:

  sudo apt-mark hold compiz
  sudo apt-mark hold gnome-settings-daemon
  sudo apt-mark hold unity

  If the packages don't work for you, you can purge them using:

  sudo ppa-purge ppa:attente/modifier-only-input-switch

  === compiz ===

  Impact: modifier-only key bindings need to be independent of key-press
  order, there's no support for double tapping two modifier keys of the
  same type

  Test case:
  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
settings
  - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
['PrimaryShift_L']
  - holding left shift, press and release ctrl
  - the current input source should change

  Regression potential: possible, but highly unlikely, that some key
  bindings may be triggered due to the removal of some code that would
  normally prevent a possible tap from occurring.

  === unity ===

  Impact: gnome-settings-daemon eats modifier-only shortcuts preventing
  them from propagating down to applications

  Test case:
  - open gnome-control-center's text input settings
  - set the next input source key binding to ctrl+left shift
  - open gnome-terminal
  - press ctrl+shift+t
  - gnome-terminal should open a new tab

  Regression potential: the additional input switch key bindings could
  collide with other functionality such as opening the dash or hud

  === gnome-control-center ===

  Impact: the UI to change the layout switching keys doesn't work

  Test case:
  - open gnome-control-center's text input settings
  - click on the next layout key entry
  - try entering a key combinaison (e.g ctrl-space)
  - the UI should reflect the new keys

  Regression potential: that UI was not working before, it should only be
  an improvement (some key combos are not working as expected, that's
  another issue and shouldn't be mixed with this one)

  === gnome-settings-daemon ===

  Impact: attempting to change keyboard layouts using only modifier keys
  doesn't work

  Test case:
  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
settings
  - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
['PrimaryShift_L']
  - press and release ctrl+left shift
  - the current input source should change

  Regression potential: The input switching shortcut might capture other
  non-modifier shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when
  choosing their switching shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects,
  this represents a working solution for a critical bug.

Okay, I did a few more tests...

- the external monitor is connected at boot time, I disconnected it when
the login screen is displayed, logged in, no high cpu usage

- logged out, connected the monitor, logged in, HIGH CPU USAGE

- logged out, disconnected the monitor, logged in, no high cpu usage

So, up to and including LightDM's login screen, everything is fine. (The
date/time indicator on the login screen pops up the calender immediately
for example; when I'm logged into Unity with high cpu usage, the
calender only pops up in super slow motion.)

When I log into Unity and the external monitor is connected at the time,
I get high cpu usage. When I log into Unity with the monitor
disconnected, I do not get high cpu usage. When I connect the monitor
once Unity is up, everything works fine, too.

BTW, I also have KDE Plasma Workspaces installed, and I don't see any
signs of high cpu usage or graphical slowdowns when I log into that one,
even when the external monitor is connected the whole time.

[Bug 1296860] Re: firefox hangs up compete laptop for no apparent reason

2014-03-30 Thread Vincent Gerris
this seems to be caused by a process called Browser, which absorbs over 5GB of
memory.
That ups the load of my laptop to over 5 because of the swapping that is
happening.
What is this process and why does it take so much memory?
My computer is unusable when this happens, in that sense it is a high priority
bug.

[Bug 1256588] Re: PPC: LiveCD installation window vanishes during installation

2014-03-30 Thread Adam Smith
2.15.9 is a bit old. It is from the middle of saucy. 2.15.26 should
work since it is the version from saucy (which I think passsed?).
2.17.0 was the first trusty release and is what is on this bug report.
So I would start with those two versions.

You seem to have the right idea. If it complains about a dependency
then just install it. It can be a bit of a fiddle because apt doesn't
like broken packages and won't install others until they are fixed. I
often end up upgrading the broken package, install dependency, then
downgrade package again. I'm sure there must be a more effiecient
way...

If 2.17.0 introduced the problem then that ties in with comment #19
above. Reverse the changes made to ubiquity/frontend/gtk_ui.py and see
if it works.

[Bug 1299712] [NEW] Online accounts for facebook (and google) are missing cursor for sign-in

2014-03-30 Thread dinky
Public bug reported:

I found this bug for the online accounts, where I sign in to both
Facebook and Google. I haven't tried anything else yet. When going to
System SettingsOnline Accounts, when I try and add either a Facebook or
Google account, in the login screen for each account, there is no cursor
showing me that i can enter text. I can still enter the text, but there
is no cursor. This is a change from 13.10, when the cursor showed up.

2.15.19 was the newest I could find in that repository that was still
before 2.17.0. However, since it failed too I think something is wrong
with my method or else the problem is outside of ubiquity.

2014-03-30 Thread Thaddäus Tintenfisch
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/Xfce. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

 Title:
   hotplugging USB device by vendor/product fails: Path
   '/dev/bus/usb/000/000' is not accessible

 Status in libvirt package in Ubuntu:
   Fix Released
 Status in libvirt source package in Saucy:
   Fix Committed

 Bug description:
   Further details and explanation on this bug can be found here:
   https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1016511

   [IMPACT]
   usb devices cannot be hotplugged using vendor/product.

   [TEST CASE]
   (Taken from comment #3)

   Try to attach a usb device as follows (using a nexus 4 as an example):

   cat  /root/nexus4.xml  EOF
   hostdev mode='subsystem' type='usb' managed='yes'
 source
   vendor id='0x18d1'/
   product id='0x4ee0'/
 /source
   /hostdev
   EOF

   virsh attach-device lava-worker-2 /root/nexus4.xml

   [REGRESSION POTENTIAL]
   This fix consists of three patches cherrypicked - and backported -
   from upstream. There is a chance of regression. However the change
   is entirely to usb hotplug code.

A note for all those commenting on this, my understanding is that if the
fix in comment #6 does not work around the problem then you are seeing a
different bug.

[Bug 1299686] Re: Segmentation fault (core dumped) when starting

2014-03-30 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for taking your time to report this issue and help making Ubuntu
better.

Could you please include the full output when attempting to start scilab
from the terminal?

It doesn't start on i386 either, but I get a message about missing symbols, not
seg fault, so I'm trying to figure out whether this is related or if I should
file a separate bug on it:
$ scilab
The native library sciconsole does not exist or cannot be found.

[Bug 1299719] [NEW] 5 minutes inactivity on a lock screen causes 2nd locking

2014-03-30 Thread Mikhail V. Golubev
Public bug reported:

If you don't type password on the lock screen and leave it inactive for
5 minutes system decides that it's reason to lock screen again. And
system locks screen again automatically when you unlock it.

Ubuntu 14.04
unity-greeter 14.04.6-ubuntu1

Steps to reproduce this bug:
1. Leave system inactive for 5 minutes (or more).
2. After 5 minutes of inactivity (5 minutes is default timeout for screen
locking) screen fades to black (turns off) and system locks.
3. After screen locking just move mouse or press any key.
4. Lock screen (unity-greeter) appears with password prompt.
5. Don't type password and again leave system inactive for 5 minutes (or more).
6. After 5 minutes of inactivity on lock screen screen doesn't turn off.
7. Enter your password on the lock screen and unlock system.
8. System unlocks but in 5-10 seconds it locks again (because of 5 minutes
inactivity on lock screen).
9. Enter your password on the lock screen again and unlock system 2nd time.
10. Now you can continue to work with system.

Expected:
On step 6:
6. After 5 minutes of inactivity on lock screen screen turns off again (without
locking, because it already locked).
On step 8:
8. System unlocks fine without automatic 2nd screen locking in 5-10 seconds.

[Bug 1299723] [NEW] Desktop stops working with propietary NVIDIA drivers.

2014-03-30 Thread nor_bak
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 13.10
Acer 5920G with modded BIOS 5920G_MXM_V3.WPH and 9600M GT DDRII

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G96M [GeForce 9600M GT]
(rev a1)
---

I'been using Ubuntu for some years on this laptops without major problems.

After fixing/baking defective 8600m gt three times decided to change it for a
9600m gt,

Flahsed bios with modded one.
Started Ubuntu, Works fine.
Changed to 9600m GT - desktop stops working in several ways after some minutes
(1 to 5 maybe):
-black screen
-mouse and keyboard works but desktop doesn't, no reaction from icons, menus.
¿Unity?
-...

If I change from one privative version to another the result goes from same
problem to no way to problems at startup, display detection problems and not
working at all -- re-install ubuntu.

Changed from privative NVIDIA driver (tested several of the avalable ones in
Aditional drives tab) to noveau and problem is gone. I would prefer to use the
privative one if posible.

I've changed back and forward from privative to noveau several times with same
effect.

I've never had that problem with the 8600m gt.

I've read it could be a bios problem, a unity problem, a nvidia driver
problem... but no solution.

OT.Windows works fine, GPU temp arround 50ºC.

Thanks.

python is to blame? Started to happen only recently, so probably one of
