[Bug 1032633] Re: Keystone's token table grows unconditionally when using SQL backend.

2014-04-05 Thread Andrew Mann
A CLI command is an interesting stopgap, but on a heavily utilized
OpenStack installation with automated tools operating against OpenStack,
this has a high manual maintenance cost. Surely there is some better
default that lies in the middle ground between keeping tokens for ever
and ever and requiring a manual removal of tokens?

As a reference point, I wasn't even aware this was an issue, until one
of our test deployments of grizzly using a limited IO system started
acting horribly (30 second response times). After tracing the problem
from nova to keystone to mysql, I found a 442,000 row token table with
440,000 expired tokens. I went and checked our havana test on a
somewhat beefier system and found 1M rows.

This issue is a timebomb for any production OS install.

CRON the CLI job. There is no reason to try and integrate a scheduler
into Keystone.

[Bug 1032633] Re: Keystone's token table grows unconditionally when using SQL backend.

2014-04-05 Thread Andrew Mann
That seems reasonable. I would suggest adding that as a step to the
OpenStack setup documentation. No one has infinite database space,
eventually all used OpenStack installations will suffer unless this is
done. Regardless of what component (or person) has to complete the task,
they'll need to be aware of it.

I would prefer to see some kind of automatically expire old tokens
configuration option so that the maintenance of keystone stays in
keystone - whether that be implemented as a expire-on-access query or
cron-derived mechanism, but re-implementing cron is not great and a
purge tagged on to other operations could cause a slowdown on those
operations.

If you are not using OpenAFS, you can just uninstall the openafs-client

In any case, Ubuntu 13.04 reached end of life on January 27, 2014.

[Bug 1288096] Re: missing drivers on trusty iso for virtualbox

2014-04-05 Thread staticd
@jsalisbury I think this is more important than just a wishlist.
Bundling a driver for ANY other hardware platform wont be relegated to a
wishlist status. I''m sorry If I come across as petulant and rude ( :P )
but I believe this is VERY important for two reasons:

1) easy debugging by regular users. (Try making a fresh install and
doing anything with the unity based ubuntu.. waiting for any of the
lousy animations appear in slow motion makes one want to just shut it
and give up)

2) There a vast number of new users who don't use ubuntu because they
are scared it will eat their hard drive (and they are right to be
scared, I've seen it happen all too often even as late as one month ago
despite the improvements we make to the install process) Even if they do
make a dual boot, they never use it because it is a pain rebooting each
time they need a windows app. I think being able to recommend virtual
box to these souls at the very fringes of salvation is a good thing.

All it requires is that 3 extra packages totaling just over 1MB to be
dropped into the CD so that they can be detected and installed
automatically if someone uses virtualbox.

[Bug 1270692] Re: Adding SIP account fails

2014-04-05 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Lars, thank you for reporting back. The packages you mentioned are not
Ubuntu packages and are actually packaged VERY differently. So, that
information is not helpful to determine the state of the Ubuntu
packages.

Between, you and me, I'd always be very careful with upstream packaging
their own software. Coders do not always understand packaging very
well. And sometimes simple mistakes can have wide-ranging effects and
even screwing up your whole OS. Again, the jitsi upstream packages are
VERY different from what is in Ubuntu.

If you are not using OpenAFS, you can just uninstall the openafs-client
package. If you are, you need to install the openafs-modules-dkms
 package.

In any case, Ubuntu 13.04 reached end of life on January 27, 2014.
 Please upgrade to 13.10.

2014-04-05 Thread staticd
Can some one please look over and clean up this page:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingUbiquity

I cant understand the deeper debugging section, and how is it different
from the What next section where it is suggested to launch ubiquity
with the -d flag.

How many of these need to be done / which are redundant:
1) the debug-ubiquity command line option
2) the editing of the partman file
3) starting ubiquity with the -d flag

Sorry. I've rolled back. 2.4.4997-1ubuntu1 on AMD64 allows adding an

leaving an empty dialog box instead. I can try the i386 version on a

[Bug 1301108] Re: [MIR] pyqt5

2014-04-05 Thread Adam Conrad
@mitya57, you're looking for -fPIE, but keep in mind that can only be
used for executables (or objects statically linked into executables),
not for libraries.

Anyhow, based on the above ACKs, and my own quick review, I'm going to
promote these three and close the bug.

[Bug 1302958] [NEW] Synaptic doesn't close properly after exiting from enter password window

2014-04-05 Thread netrick
Public bug reported:

OS: Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit with Unity, fully updated

Reproducible: always

How to reproduce the bug:

1) Pin the Synaptic package manager to the Unity launcher
2) Click on the Synaptic icon
3) There will appear a window, which asks for your password
4) Close that window
5) The Synaptic icon on the Unity launcher will have pulsing light for 5-10 sec
(this is the animation that Unity launcher uses when the app is launching) and
you can't launch Synaptic by clicking on that icon during the pulsing light
animation.

Expected behaviour:

5) The synaptic icon on the Unity launcher gets back to default state
immediately and the icon acts as if the Synaptic was closed. So you can
just click on the icon and launch Synaptic again.

Important: such issue with Synaptic doesn't happen with other DEs like LXDE or
XFCE

I can provide more info if needed. This happens on every Ubuntu 14.04
setup I tested, so it seems it's unrelated to hardware and drivers.

[Bug 1301601] Re: [Dell Inc. Latitude E7440] suspend/resume failure

2014-04-05 Thread Øyvind Stegard
Just had another freeze at suspend. Display was still on, but frozen
right in the middle of the fade between desktop and lockscreen appearing
before machine should have suspended (same thing as first occurence). So
this bug is really about a failure to suspend, since it actually never
manages to reach that state.

I find nothing interesting in any logs under /var/log.

The last thing that appears in pm-suspend.log before freeze:
Fri Apr 4 23:42:00 CEST 2014: performing suspend

** Summary changed:

- [Dell Inc. Latitude E7440] suspend/resume failure

Other shortcuts sutch as Super+W and open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) work

Bit of a hack, but I copied libkde4be1lo.so and libvclplug_kde4lo.so
from 4.2.1 into /usr/lib/libreoffice/programs and LibreOffice loads
again.

Re: [Bug 998877] Re: Sticky keys disabled when pressed twice

2014-04-05 Thread cerasu...@gmail.com
Ok, I now can confirm that the sticky keys do work in a full installation
of Ubuntu 14.04, 64 bit. From my side, the bug can be closed now.

2014-04-03 8:41 GMT+02:00 Evgeni Bykarskij cerasu...@gmail.com:

Ok. For me the sticky keys worked on 13.10 when running in VirtualBox on
Win 7 with sticky keys enabled. I even cheered up and thought it was fixed
 untill I live bootet it...

 2014-04-03 2:40 GMT+02:00 Steven Edwards 998...@bugs.launchpad.net:

StickyKeys failed for me when using Ubuntu 12.04-13.10 in Virtualbox, so
 that's odd.

The fix appears to have come in xorg-server 1.15.0:

 http://distrowatch.com/search.php?pkg=xorg-
 serverpkgver=1.15.0#pkgsearch

...I'm going to try Arch in VirtualBox tomorrow.

 Status in Ubuntu:

 Bug description:
   Ubuntu 12.04, 32 bit

When pressing a modifier once (ALT, SHIFT, CTRL, etc) it sticks for
the next keypress. This is normal behavior. However, if pressed twice
it should stick untill pressed a third time (this allows to simulate
holding it down). Instead, when pressed twice the modifier gets
   released.

[Bug 1301570] Re: OpenGL crashes KWin with 64-bit 3.13.0-21 kernel

2014-04-05 Thread Paul L.
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

On my 64-bit installation, setting OpenGL 1.2, 2.0, or 3.1 when using
kernel 3.13.0-21 causes KWin to crash. I'm forced to use XRender
  instead.

This is also occurs using kernel 3.13.0-20.

OpenGL 1.2 and 2.0 works fine and does not crash KWin when using kernel
  3.13.0-19.

On my 32-bit installation, OpenGL 1.2 and 2.0 works fine with KWin when
using any of these three kernels.

[Bug 1302957] Re: Unable to install apps(deb files) from browser via Software center

2014-04-05 Thread Luhein Lategan
I had the same problem installing Google Chrome. Downloaded the
google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb from the Google site. Tried to in
install via Ubuntu Software Centre. Clicked the Install Icon, the install bar
started to run and then after few seconds it reverts back to the Install icon.
I tried it a couple of times. Once it actually asked me my password to install
as well, but then again reverted back to the Install icon. A search gave me the
indications where I:
1. Opened a terminal.
2. cd Downloads the deb file waqs downloaded to that folder
3. I then ran this command: sudo dpkg -i google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb.

This worked perfectly and Google Grome was installed.

There is definately a bug with the software centre.

Also - if you click the option where it can recommend something - the
next time you run Software Centre it is unselected

Well, better more than less?! Looks like I updated this report twice
today. The additions are while I am running on the 3.13.0-19-generic
kernel with OpenGL 2.0 selected (and working properly).

[Bug 1301570] WifiSyslog.txt

2014-04-05 Thread Paul L.
apport information

** Attachment added: WifiSyslog.txt

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1301570/+attachment/4067019/+files/WifiSyslog.txt
