[Bug 1311523] [NEW] Nvidia won't select 14.04 LTS
Public bug reported: Prologue: I did a fresh install of 14.04 and the install was pretty rough with artifacts all over hdmi and needing to mouse over everything in order to reveal an updated image. Kind of like scratching off gift cards or lotto tickets, but with a screen. After a day or so everything seemed to work alright save for needing to ~$ kill -15 -1 twice in order to use the trackpad and mouse properly. After working fairly well like this (so long as I didn't reboot) for a week, I can't seem to get nvidia working properly today. What I expected to happen: I typically work from my laptop ( m11x R3 ) during the day and hook it up to an external monitor via hdmi at home. To conserve battery, I use $ sudo tlp bat and use intel on the go. At home I log in, select nvidia, plug in via hdmi everything runs smoothly. What actually happened: Today I come home and hdmi won't work, m11x got really hot, and hard drive filled up with 8ish GB each kernlog plus syslog. I deleted kernlog to free up space and reboot in order to open chrome. The following was looped in syslog: Apr 22 19:27:45 gb9Box kernel: [ 48.032709] ACPI Exception: AE_NOT_FOUND, while evaluating GPE method [_L1B] (20131115/evgpe-580) Apr 22 19:27:45 gb9Box kernel: [ 48.032759] ACPI Error: [\_SB_.PCI0.PEG0.PEGP.DPLF] Namespace lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND (20131115/psargs-359) Apr 22 19:27:45 gb9Box kernel: [ 48.032780] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_GPE._L1B] (Node 8801d68cd0f0), AE_NOT_FOUND (20131115/psparse-536) Please accept this peace offering of supplementary information and dmesg attachment. [Bug 1311525] [NEW] Can only use half the sound range without overdriving sound
Public bug reported: On a Nvidia CK804 (Asus A8N SLI Premium), the audio can only be set to base (63 %) without overdriving the sound. This is because 0db (100 %) is reported wrong in pulseaudio; when seen in alsamixer it actually sets PCM to 12db, causing distortions. According to PulseAudio this is a bug in the alsa driver http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/pulseaudio-discuss/2012-April/013249.html http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Documentation/User/PulseAudioStoleMyVolumes/ If you are experiencing distortions/clipping even though the inner volumes are set to 0dB, then this means that the dB information your ALSA driver exports is simply incorrect. In this case please file a bug against your audio driver and ask them to correct (i.e. shift up) the volume scale of that volume control. [Bug 1311501] Re: [desktoptouch] Two finger gesture scrolls and zooms
** Description changed: On Chromium 2 finger gesture zooms and scrolls and the result on the UI is confusing. When the user scrolls the page with 2 fingers and the distance between the fingers changes, then the zoom level changes. When the user wants to zoom with a 2 fingers pinch, the zoom level changes but the page moves too. + + This is also the case for 3 fingers drag, where it moves the window but + also scrolls the content and it is even more difficult to keep the + fingers at the same distance when doing a 3 fingers gesture. TEST CASE: 1. Open an URL with enough content to reveal the vertical scrollbar 2. Do a 2 finger gesture with pinch and drag simultaneously ACTUAL RESULT: The content scrolls and zooms EXPECTED RESULT It does one or the other. Since a 1 finger drag already scrolls the content, maybe 2 finger could only do a zoom ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: chromium-browser 34.0.1847.116-0ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-24.46-generic 3.13.9 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-24-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Wed Apr 23 09:16:49 2014 Desktop-Session: - DESKTOP_SESSION = ubuntu - XDG_CONFIG_DIRS = /etc/xdg/xdg-ubuntu:/usr/share/upstart/xdg:/etc/xdg - XDG_DATA_DIRS = /usr/share/ubuntu:/usr/share/gnome:/usr/local/share/:/usr/share/ + DESKTOP_SESSION = ubuntu + XDG_CONFIG_DIRS = /etc/xdg/xdg-ubuntu:/usr/share/upstart/xdg:/etc/xdg + XDG_DATA_DIRS = /usr/share/ubuntu:/usr/share/gnome:/usr/local/share/:/usr/share/ DetectedPlugins: - + DiskUsage: - b'Filesystem Type Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on\n/dev/sda2 ext4 455G 4,1G 427G 1% /\nnone tmpfs 4,0K 0 4,0K 0% /sys/fs/cgroup\nudev devtmpfs 1,9G 4,0K 1,9G 1% /dev\ntmpfs tmpfs 384M 1,1M 383M 1% /run\nnone tmpfs 5,0M 0 5,0M 0% /run/lock\nnone tmpfs 1,9G 11M 1,9G 1% /run/shm\nnone tmpfs 100M 68K 100M 1% /run/user\n/dev/sda1 vfat 511M 3,4M 508M 1% /boot/efi\n' - - Inodes: - b'Filesystem Inodes IUsed IFree IUse% Mounted on\n/dev/sda2 29M 187K 29M1% /\nnone 480K 2 480K1% /sys/fs/cgroup\nudev 477K 498 477K1% /dev\ntmpfs 480K 486 479K1% /run\nnone 480K 3 480K1% /run/lock\nnone 480K19 480K1% /run/shm\nnone 480K41 480K1% /run/user\n/dev/sda1 0 0 0 - /boot/efi\n' + b'Filesystem Type Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on\n/dev/sda2 ext4 455G 4,1G 427G 1% /\nnone tmpfs 4,0K 0 4,0K 0% /sys/fs/cgroup\nudev devtmpfs 1,9G 4,0K 1,9G 1% /dev\ntmpfs tmpfs 384M 1,1M 383M 1% /run\nnone tmpfs 5,0M 0 5,0M 0% /run/lock\nnone tmpfs 1,9G 11M 1,9G 1% /run/shm\nnone tmpfs 100M 68K 100M 1% /run/user\n/dev/sda1 vfat 511M 3,4M 508M 1% /boot/efi\n' + + Inodes: + b'Filesystem Inodes IUsed IFree IUse% Mounted on\n/dev/sda2 29M 187K 29M1% /\nnone 480K 2 480K1% /sys/fs/cgroup\nudev 477K 498 477K1% /dev\ntmpfs 480K 486 479K1% /run\nnone 480K 3 480K1% /run/lock\nnone 480K19 480K1% /run/shm\nnone 480K41 480K1% /run/user\n/dev/sda1 0 0 0 - /boot/efi\n' Env: - MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH = None - LD_LIBRARY_PATH = None + MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH = None + LD_LIBRARY_PATH = None InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-04-22 (0 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr - Release amd64 (20140417) SourcePackage: chromium-browser UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) chromium-default: CHROMIUM_FLAGS= gconf-keys: /desktop/gnome/applications/browser/exec = b'/usr/bin/chromium-browser\n'/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/https/command = b'/usr/bin/chromium-browser %s\n'/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/https/enabled = b'true\n'/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http/command = b'/usr/bin/chromium-browser %s\n'/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http/enabled = b'true\n'/desktop/gnome/session/required_components/windowmanager = b''/apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager = b''/desktop/gnome/interface/icon_theme = b'gnome\n'/desktop/gnome/interface/gtk_theme = b'Clearlooks\n' modified.conffile..etc.default.chromium.browser: [deleted] -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1311501 Title: [desktoptouch] Two finger gesture scrolls and zooms To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1311501/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing

[Bug 1311511] Re: After upgrading to Ubuntu 14.04 can't login to GUI
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1311511/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. I have the same problem on old Dell 1525 laptop with an update to Ubuntu 14.04 final release from 13.10. [Bug 1309231] Re: Client should exp backoff reconnect even when connect was successful
** Description changed: Client should exp backoff reconnect even when connect was successful. This would protect us from some situations (already arisen: a server bug that disconnects us hard, after accepting the connection). + + [Impact] + + ubuntu-push-client reattempts connection in a loop, driving load up, as + well as disk usage (through the logs) and draining the battery. + + [Test Case] + + This test case demonstrates the problem by reproducing lp:1309237. You + need: + + * a computer capable of running the ubuntu push server. + * at least two devices using the stable image and that can talk to the computer over the network + + on a computer reachable from the devices, do: + + mkdir -p test-case-1309231/src/launchpad.net + cd !$ + bzr branch lp:ubuntu-push + cd ubuntu-push + make bootstrap + sed -i~ -e 's/127.0.0.1//g' sampleconfigs/dev.json + make run-server-dev + + on the devices, edit /etc/xdg/ubuntu-push-client/config.json (or copy it + to ~phablet/.config/ubuntu-push-client/config.json and edit it there) so + that addr points to the IP address of the computer, and port 9090; + something like + + addr: 192.168.1.1:9090 + + (note there is no https:// as the hosts discovery step is being + skipped). + + Reboot the devices. Tailing ~phablet/.cache/upstart/ubuntu-push- + client.log will show a series of rapid disconnects and reconnects; the + output of the server will show a series of empty registered (as + opposed to registered followed by a 256-byte hash). Look at the load + on the devices. Be amazed. + + [Regression potential] + + If a device hits the connects-ok-but-is-then-disconnected-early + situation and then enters deep sleep (or is otherwise unable to deliver + a timely multi-second timeout), the client might see significant delays + in reconnecting successfully, and that might mean they miss a + notification that they would've otherwise received. It's rather far + fetched, really, and a similar backoff is already in place for other + less pathological paths. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1309231 Title: Client should exp backoff reconnect even when connect was successful To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-push/+bug/1309231/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1307897] Re: locking screen with light-locker disables num pad led, while the numpad itself remains turned on
Light-locker doesn't interact with the numpad at all (and in my opinion it shouldn't). This is most likely a problem of VT Switching and X11 taking control over the Keyboard in the greeter. The basic problem being: how should the greeter know whether numlock was on/off during the session? (A service like accountsservice would be an option, but I don't think it has support for numlock status. Also, currently xfce4-session doesn't save/restore the status of the numpad, so upon a reboot or a re-login you have to manually run a programm like xnumlock to set the status.) You can verify that this is not a bug in light-locker by deactivating it in light-locker-settings and then trying to lock the session from the terminal with dm-tool lock. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1307897 Title: locking screen with light-locker disables num pad led, while the numpad itself remains turned on To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/light-locker/+bug/1307897/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
