[Bug 1301206] Re: [regression] Black frame around windows and buttons censored

2014-04-23 Thread Ed Guenter
Same for me. This happens very often when coming back form suspend or
hibernation on my fresh install of 14.04 64 bit
(using nvidia 331.49)

Workarounds:
* restarting unity
* suspending again

[Bug 1311503] [NEW] compiz crashes with segfault error in libnux-graphics

2014-04-23 Thread Kim d'Audretsch
Public bug reported:

When I login compiz crashes with a segfault error in libnux-graphics. My
screen turns blue (with nouveau driver) or with white blocks (nvidia
current driver). In dmesg the following messages are shown:

[ 808.965220] compiz[7568]: segfault at b0 ip 7f9246244a0f sp
7fff0a7a1450 error 4 in libnux-graphics-4.0.so.0.6.0[7f92461f8000+cb000]

7fffe2e356d0 error 4 in libnux-graphics-4.0.so.0.6.0[7f342157+cb000]

I only get this error with my Nvidia GTX 460 card. I do not get these
errors with my radeon and intel video cards (my other pc and laptop).
All running latest Trusty 14.04.

I have upgraded two Dell system to to 14.04 and I was able to login
once after the upgrade. For as long as I did not log out of the GUI

resulted in a flash and an immediate invalid username/password
response. I have tried my admin account, guest, as well as creating a
new account. All accounts worked fine via terminal (CTRL + ALT + F)

[Bug 1306917] Re: light-locker: screen always automatically locked

2014-04-23 Thread Simon Steinbeiß
As light-locker-settings works in a very trivial way (by creating a
launcher in ~/.config/autostart/light-locker.desktop), could you please
check whether this launcher is there and not possibly overridden by
something else?

Also, you can restart your session to be sure the settings got applied
(it shouldn't be necessary though).

[Bug 1310586] Re: Multicast snooping on bridge breaks ICMP6 neighbor solicitation for KVM guests

2014-04-23 Thread Trygve Andre Tønnesland
Unfortunately I wont be able to test the mainline kernel any time soon.
However, I see that the relevant patches described in the netdev thread
are merged into the 3.13 tree:

bridge: multicast: add sanity check for query source addresses
bridge: multicast: add sanity check for general query destination
bridge: multicast: enable snooping on general queries only

Including these patches in the Ubuntu 14.04 kernel should resolve this
issue.

This was noticed using Rhythmbox.

The attached 'n900-udev.txt' contains an extract of the output of
'udevadm info --export-db'. Note that ID_MEDIA_PLAYER is set on
'/devices/pci:00/:00:1a.7/usb1/1-3', but it is not set on the
entry that corresponds to the actual /dev/sdb device
('/devices/pci:00/:00:1a.7/usb1/1-3/1-3:1.0/host19/target19:0:0/19:0:0:0/block/sdb').
This is a change from Debian wheezy, where ID_MEDIA_PLAYER is set on
both.

ID_MEDIA_PLAYER isn't on the right device, rhythmbox can't see it.
Probably needs to be fixed in media-player-info.

[Bug 1303264] Re: [Samsung NP-NC10-JP06DE] suspend/resume failure

2014-04-23 Thread Reiner Jung
Hi Christopher,

thank you for investigating this issue. My netbook runs on Ubuntu and
there is no Windows installed on the device. Therefore, I am (presently)
not able to perform a BIOS update following the sources you provided.
Samsung only provides an Windows 7 executable, which seams to be an BIOS
updater, downloading the proper image. At least it tells me that it
cannot download the necessary information. I'll try to get around this
obstacle, but it will take some time.

Kind regards
Reiner

[Bug 1300235] Re: init crashed with SIGSEGV

2014-04-23 Thread James Hunt
Thanks Huubb - the encoded core files are still shown as belonging to
chrome so I'm not sure what is happening here. And until we have either
a stacktrace or a core file from init itself, it's going to be difficult
to determine the cause of this issue.

If anyone has this problem and does not have chrome / chromium
installed, please can they either open a new bug or attach
/var/crash/_sbin_init.0.crash to this bug.

[Bug 1273447] Re: samba sharing doesn't work on fresh Ubuntu 14.04 x64 build - net usershare add: cannot convert name Everyone to a SID. Access denied

I ran into a similar bug of the samba with the latest ubuntu 14.04
official release.

My Win7 laptop cannot connect to the Samba server, but I run the
smbpasswd -a USER and it works.

it seems the smbpasswd -a USER was not persistent when I reboot the
server, I have to rerun the smbpasswd command to add user.

[Bug 1311523] [NEW] Nvidia won't select 14.04 LTS

2014-04-23 Thread Georgio Mosqueda
Public bug reported:

Prologue: I did a fresh install of 14.04 and the install was pretty
rough with artifacts all over hdmi and needing to mouse over everything
in order to reveal an updated image. Kind of like scratching off gift
cards or lotto tickets, but with a screen. After a day or so everything
seemed to work alright save for needing to ~$ kill -15 -1 twice in order
to use the trackpad and mouse properly. After working fairly well like
this (so long as I didn't reboot) for a week, I can't seem to get nvidia
working properly today.

What I expected to happen: I typically work from my laptop ( m11x R3 )
during the day and hook it up to an external monitor via hdmi at home.
To conserve battery, I use $ sudo tlp bat and use intel on the go. At
home I log in, select nvidia, plug in via hdmi everything runs
smoothly.

What actually happened: Today I come home and hdmi won't work, m11x got really
hot, and hard drive filled up with 8ish GB each kernlog plus syslog. I deleted
kernlog to free up space and reboot in order to open chrome. The following was
looped in syslog:

Apr 22 19:27:45 gb9Box kernel: [ 48.032709] ACPI Exception: AE_NOT_FOUND,

[Bug 1311525] [NEW] Can only use half the sound range without overdriving sound

2014-04-23 Thread Alad Wenter
Public bug reported:

On a Nvidia CK804 (Asus A8N SLI Premium), the audio can only be set to
base (63 %) without overdriving the sound. This is because 0db (100 %)
is reported wrong in pulseaudio; when seen in alsamixer it actually sets
PCM to 12db, causing distortions.

According to PulseAudio this is a bug in the alsa driver

http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/pulseaudio-discuss/2012-April/013249.html
http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Documentation/User/PulseAudioStoleMyVolumes/

If you are experiencing distortions/clipping even though the inner
volumes are set to 0dB, then this means that the dB information your
ALSA driver exports is simply incorrect. In this case please file a bug
against your audio driver and ask them to correct (i.e. shift up) the
volume scale of that volume control.

[Bug 1311501] Re: [desktoptouch] Two finger gesture scrolls and zooms

2014-04-23 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
** Description changed:

On Chromium 2 finger gesture zooms and scrolls and the result on the UI is
confusing.
When the user scrolls the page with 2 fingers and the distance between the
fingers changes, then the zoom level changes.
When the user wants to zoom with a 2 fingers pinch, the zoom level changes
but the page moves too.
+
+ This is also the case for 3 fingers drag, where it moves the window but
+ also scrolls the content and it is even more difficult to keep the
+ fingers at the same distance when doing a 3 fingers gesture.

  TEST CASE:
  1. Open an URL with enough content to reveal the vertical scrollbar
  2. Do a 2 finger gesture with pinch and drag simultaneously

  ACTUAL RESULT:
  The content scrolls and zooms

  EXPECTED RESULT
It does one or the other. Since a 1 finger drag already scrolls the content,
maybe 2 finger could only do a zoom

[Bug 1311511] Re: After upgrading to Ubuntu 14.04 can't login to GUI

2014-04-23 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1311511/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1304709] Re: Runtime signal connection errors when using the new signal style

2014-04-23 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Additional notes from IRC:
cjwatson Disabling -Bsymbolic on armhf has potential significant performance
effects for process startup, so I think we should try to avoid it if we can
cjwatson Or rather -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions, I guess you mean
cjwatson Perhaps worth verifying my intuition about what effect it actually
has
cjwatson But Qt seems like exactly the sort of hot spot that
-Bsymbolic-functions is best at

So maybe not a good idea necessarily on armhf.

See also the suggestions in the upstream bug report https://bugreports
.qt-project.org/browse/QTBUG-36129 to try '-pie -fPIE', would it
workaround this problem on an app basis?

[Bug 1283938] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep

2014-04-23 Thread DavidSH
I have the same problem on old Dell 1525 laptop with an update to
Ubuntu 14.04 final release from 13.10.

I seem to have temporarily fixed the problem by doing the following:

Go to Security Privacy - Un-check the ticked boxes under
Require my password when
'Waking from Suspend'
and
'Returning from Blank Screen'
i.e. no passwords needed after suspend

This seems to be working so far and the machine wakes up okay after I
shut the laptop lid and the machine has entered suspend mode. Whether
it's a full fix I don't know, but it is working for now.

Thanks a lot for testing. To be honest, I wasn't expecting the patch to
be this verbose... so, I've modified the patch and uploaded v2 of the
test kernel:

The modified patch is also in this directory.

[Bug 1311036] Re: unlock keystrokes sent to virtual-box session

2014-04-23 Thread Simon Steinbeiß
Are you sure this bug is with light-locker?

By default, Unity/Ubuntu doesn't use light-locker but instead comes with a
built-in locker and the problem you're describing sounds similar to a known
issue with it.

[Bug 1311551] [NEW] Installer crashes at partioning stage (Lubuntu 14.04)

2014-04-23 Thread Otto Kekäläinen
Public bug reported:

When installing Lubuntu 14.04 I chosein the partitioning screen the options
* Clear hard drive and install Lubuntu
* Uncrypt hard drive (and thus also LVM was auto-selected)

I the next screen I set the encryption password.

After that there came a error message that a unencrypted swap is used,
and that I should manually run 'swapoff'. (Normal users probably don't
know how to do it, why can't the installer simply just run swapoff
directly?)

After clicking OK there was a crash report and following the Apport
dialogs this bug report was automatically opened.

PS. The bug reporting guidelines below say that I should attach two
log files, syslog and /var/log/installer/partman. However the path to
partman is /var/log/partman. Also there is zero attachment fields
available until I understood to click the Extra into button below. And
after that there was only one attachmend field, so I have now attached
the partman log.

[Bug 1309231] Re: Client should exp backoff reconnect even when connect was successful

2014-04-23 Thread John Lenton
** Description changed:

Client should exp backoff reconnect even when connect was successful.
This would protect us from some situations (already arisen: a server bug
that disconnects us hard, after accepting the connection).
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ ubuntu-push-client reattempts connection in a loop, driving load up, as
+ well as disk usage (through the logs) and draining the battery.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ This test case demonstrates the problem by reproducing lp:1309237. You
+ need:
+
+ * a computer capable of running the ubuntu push server.
+ * at least two devices using the stable image and that can talk to the
computer over the network
+
+ on a computer reachable from the devices, do:
+
+ mkdir -p test-case-1309231/src/launchpad.net
+ cd !$
+ bzr branch lp:ubuntu-push
+ cd ubuntu-push
+ make bootstrap
+ sed -i~ -e 's/127.0.0.1//g' sampleconfigs/dev.json
+ make run-server-dev
+
+ on the devices, edit /etc/xdg/ubuntu-push-client/config.json (or copy it
+ to ~phablet/.config/ubuntu-push-client/config.json and edit it there) so
+ that addr points to the IP address of the computer, and port 9090;
+ something like
+
+ addr: 192.168.1.1:9090
+
+ (note there is no https:// as the hosts discovery step is being
+ skipped).
+
+ Reboot the devices. Tailing ~phablet/.cache/upstart/ubuntu-push-
+ client.log will show a series of rapid disconnects and reconnects; the
+ output of the server will show a series of empty registered (as
+ opposed to registered followed by a 256-byte hash). Look at the load
+ on the devices. Be amazed.
+
+ [Regression potential]
+
+ If a device hits the connects-ok-but-is-then-disconnected-early
+ situation and then enters deep sleep (or is otherwise unable to deliver
+ a timely multi-second timeout), the client might see significant delays
+ in reconnecting successfully, and that might mean they miss a
+ notification that they would've otherwise received. It's rather far
+ fetched, really, and a similar backoff is already in place for other
+ less pathological paths.

[Bug 1307897] Re: locking screen with light-locker disables num pad led, while the numpad itself remains turned on

2014-04-23 Thread Simon Steinbeiß
Light-locker doesn't interact with the numpad at all (and in my opinion
it shouldn't).

This is most likely a problem of VT Switching and X11 taking control over the
Keyboard in the greeter. The basic problem being: how should the greeter know
whether numlock was on/off during the session?
(A service like accountsservice would be an option, but I don't think it has
support for numlock status. Also, currently xfce4-session doesn't save/restore
the status of the numpad, so upon a reboot or a re-login you have to manually
run a programm like xnumlock to set the status.)

You can verify that this is not a bug in light-locker by deactivating it
in light-locker-settings and then trying to lock the session from the
terminal with dm-tool lock.
