[Bug 1311512] Re: Cant type password or change user after block computer with super+L

2014-04-23 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report. Do you use unity? Is that the new session
lock screen? Did you have a password prompt opened behind the lock
screen (could be bug #1305586)? Does it happen every time or only once?

Note that as a workaround you can use the top left menu - switch user
then log back from the greeter

[Bug 1299141] Re: [ASUSTeK Computer Inc. hostname] suspend/resume failure

2014-04-23 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
zidar, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the
daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will
allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested
the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you
tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.15-rc2

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

Re: [Bug 1311036] Re: unlock keystrokes sent to virtual-box session

2014-04-23 Thread Mark Petryk
No, sir, I am not ~certain~ this is a problem with light-locker, but I
was directed to post a bug by a canonical developer. How can I query?

The machine does respond to ctrl-alt-F1 where I can log in and 'ps aux'
for running tasks and so on.

Happy to help, but I need some guidance.

By default, Unity/Ubuntu doesn't use light-locker but instead comes with a
built-in locker and the problem you're describing sounds similar to a known
 issue with it.

[Bug 1309432] Re: Ubuntu Push client should ensure it only runs once per session.

2014-04-23 Thread John Lenton
** Description changed:

Ubuntu Push client should ensure it only runs once per session.
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ * if two push clients connect with the same id, the last one to connects
disconnects the previous ones
+ * a live client will attempt to reconnect
+
+ thus if for whatever reason two clients run in the same session, they
+ will fight over it.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ You need:
+
+ * a device on stable
+ * to shells running as the phablet user
+
+ In one of the shells, do
+
+ stop ubuntu-push-client
+ /usr/lib/ubuntu-push-client/ubuntu-push-client
+
+ In the other one, do
+
+ /usr/lib/ubuntu-push-client/ubuntu-push-client
+
+ Watch the fight that ensues
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ The current implementation quits the first client once the second one
+ claims the dbus name. This *could* be disconnecting the wrong one, but
+ as I have had trouble reproducing this in the wild it's hard to tell. In
+ any case it's better than the fight that would ensue without this.

[Bug 1309237] Re: Work around whoopsie returning null string during session start

2014-04-23 Thread John Lenton
** Description changed:

During session startup, the call to whoopsie_identifier_generate will on
some devices leave both buffer and error as NULL.

In particular, running http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/7268480/ on mako (and
presumably on manta) as a *session* upstart job, with the upstart script
of http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/7268498/ will get a null, null for the
first 10 seconds (approximately) on mako:

Rebooting (boot in dmesg -T at Thu Apr 17 14:32:36 2014, first init:
line at Thu Apr 17 14:32:44 2014), in the upstart logs I get a series of

  2014-04-17T14:32:54+ (null) :: nil

(that's also the first such line ,10s after init)
  until suddenly

  2014-04-17T14:32:56+ (null) :: nil
  2014-04-17T14:32:56+ 81dc12[...]cd58 :: nil

I don't know what's causing this, as it doesn't make sense from what I
  can read in the code.

  --

The whoopsie bug is now in lp:1311571

  --

  [Impact]

ubuntu-push-client gets an empty string for the whoopsie identifier,
which is rather not unique (so connections from multiple devices will
  get disconnected).

  [Test Case]

  You need:

  * a computer capable of running the ubuntu push server.
  * at least two devices using the stable image and that can talk to the
computer over the network

on a computer reachable from the devices, do:

- mkdir -p test-case-1309231/src/launchpad.net
+ mkdir -p test-case-1309237/src/launchpad.net
  cd !$
  bzr branch lp:ubuntu-push
  cd ubuntu-push
  make bootstrap
  sed -i~ -e 's/127.0.0.1//g' sampleconfigs/dev.json
  make run-server-dev

on the devices, edit /etc/xdg/ubuntu-push-client/config.json (or copy it
to ~phablet/.config/ubuntu-push-client/config.json and edit it there) so
  that addr points to the IP address of the computer, and port 9090;
  something like

  addr: 192.168.1.1:9090

(note there is no https:// as the hosts discovery step is being
  skipped).

  Reboot the devices. Tailing ~phablet/.cache/upstart/ubuntu-push-
client.log will show a series of rapid disconnects and reconnects; the
output of the server will show a series of empty registered (as
opposed to registered followed by a 256-byte hash).

  [Regression potential]

There's a possibility that whoopsie never stops returning a null string,
and thus we never progress. Given that for whoopsie to return null seems
to imply there is no network device up, that's probably for the best.

2014-04-23 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1311596] [NEW] Unable to access phppgadmin after installation

2014-04-23 Thread ஆமாச்சு
Public bug reported:

I am using Ubuntu 14.04.

I have installed phppgadmin package through apt-get

After installation, when I try to access it through
http://localhost/phppgadmin in Firefox,

I couldn't access the application.

I analysed and found out the following work around:

1) sudo cp /etc/apache2/conf.d/phppgadmin
/etc/apache2/conf-available/phppgadmin.conf
2) sudo a2enconf phppgadmin
3) sudo service apache2 reload

Open it with, http://localhost/phppgadmin, I am there :)

This has to be automated upon installation itself.

[Bug 1306917] Re: light-locker: screen always automatically locked

2014-04-23 Thread Tim
I posted a duplicate of this bug, so was redirected here. If it
matters, I am on Xubuntu 14.04 64-bit. Strangely, after experiencing
this bug multiple times yesterday, when I woke up this morning and moved
the mouse, I did NOT get a lock screen. More testing is needed.

To reply to Simon's comment, I can confirm that the launcher you speak of is
there. Here is its current config:
Exec=light-locker --lock-after-screensaver=0 --no-lock-on-suspend

[Bug 1311417] Re: poweroff/reboot/logout does not work

2014-04-23 Thread Adithya
Yes I use unity.

When I click the menu where I can see the suspend/logout/shutdown in the list.
Suspend: works
Logout: shows me the pop up box giving me an option to log out and switch user.
when I click log out it does not work and brings me back to the desktop.
Shutdown: also shows me the same pop up box with the option as log out and
switch user. when I click its does not work.

And also the lock screen also does not work I have raised a separete bug
for that but did not get any response.

The problem with the lock screen is when i click the screen turn black
when i make a mose movment or a key press it brings back my desktop with
out asking for my password. FYI I did set a password.

Referance to the other bug.

Thanks, looking for your support on fixing this its becoming a pain to
use the terminal to shutdow. and sad that I can't lock my screen.

[Bug 1311036] Re: unlock keystrokes sent to virtual-box session

2014-04-23 Thread Simon Steinbeiß
So you installed and set up light-locker yourself in 14.04? If you're
using a default install, I'm rather certain that it's not light-locker
you're using.

You can easily query whether it is running in the terminal ps -A | grep
light-locker or by checking whether the package is installed in
software center.

[Bug 1311599] [NEW] UbuntuShape should be available as an image provider

2014-04-23 Thread Michał Sawicz
Public bug reported:

We use UbuntuShape extensively everywhere in the Ubuntu UI. In a *lot*
of places, it just means masking the image and adding the borders. Doing
this every time you load the image feels wasteful, and is causing
slowdowns in the UI (e.g. dash).

I think we should also have the ability to use an image provider that
will fetch the image, apply the shaping and flatten the image, allowing
for caching (on disk as well) the resulting image.

[Bug 1311211] Re: Bluetooth icon has a padlock emblem sometimes

2014-04-23 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks, that icon is used when a device is paired. Knowing when somebody
connects to e.g your laptop is useful information, do you think we could
consider adding that to the spec?

2014-04-23 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
You're right. I tried again and it works as expected but sometimes it
seems to not be grabbing the 4 fingers because if I do the 4 fingers
gesture without any application open, I can see a select area on the
background.

I'm closing this report.

[Bug 1311600] [NEW] Ubuntu Push client takes no commandline arguments

2014-04-23 Thread John Lenton
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * Every time we need to test something, either for an SRU or CI or QA
or etc., we need to tell the user to edit the configuration file. The
json parser we use is rather pedantic and the client will fail to start
if the file is non-conforming, so there's a lot of space to break
things.

[Test Case]

 * In the test case in e.g. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-
push/+bug/1309432 there's a rather handwavy step “edit /etc/xdg/[...]
(or copy it to ~phablet/.config/[...] and edit it there”.

 * /usr/lib/ubuntu-push-client/ubuntu-push-client takes no commandline
arguments

After this fix, “/usr/lib/ubuntu-push-client/ubuntu-push-client -help”
will be somewhat useful, and we can tell people to say e.g. “-addr
192.168.1.1:9090” without risking messing up their configuration.

[Regression Potential]

If for whatever reason (corruption, a bad edit, etc) there is rubbish
after the upstart script that starts the push client, after the fix, it
will fail instead.

[Bug 1299104] Re: [Lenovo G510 Notebook] EHCI: BIOS handoff failed (BIOS bug?) 01010001

2014-04-23 Thread Thanasis Naskos
Christopher M. Penalver the only noticeable impact is a delay in the
boot process. As you can see in the dmesg file there is a delay of about
3 secs. It's not a great delay, but if you consider that I have an ssd
it is noticeable.

[0.553488] pci :00:02.0: Boot video device
[2.155741] pci :00:1a.0: EHCI: BIOS handoff failed (BIOS bug?) 01010001
[3.757032] pci :00:1d.0: EHCI: BIOS handoff failed (BIOS bug?) 01010001

I also thought that it was affecting my USB devices (wireless mouse) as
you can see in this bug report
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1299400

However, when I have updated to the 3.14 kernel, despite the fact that
the bios handoff failed error continued to appear in dmesg, my USB
devices were working properly.

I will try the latest rc kernel and report back to you asap!
Thank you for your interest!

[Bug 1311606] [NEW] xfce4 indicator plugin keeps crashing

2014-04-23 Thread halfbeing
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to Trusty yesterday, the XFCE4 indicator applet no
longer works. I can install it in the panel and see all my indicators
appear, but within a few seconds it crashes, the indicators disappear
and I get a message offering to remove the applet from the panel.

I did not have this problem while I was using Saucy.

It sounds like the same issue as bug #996218 (which was declared invalid

which affected a few people).

[Bug 1283003] Re: [Bluetooth + 14.04] Bluetooth headsets are not working after last couple of updates

2014-04-23 Thread Colum Gaynor
@Omri Stein, @Akaname, @Kiori, @Joe D.

First some good news... There seems to be a simple workaround to restore
the highquality A2DP interworking to your Bluetooth headset.

1) Use Blueman to pair to the headset. My experience was that it will pair and
even connect as headset with the horrible audio
quality Telephony Duplex (HSP/HFP) audio profile.
2) The Ubuntu Sound Control panel wont however show the Bluetooth device yet!
3) Open a command terminal and issue the command:pulseaudio -k
4) After a short delay you should see the Headset appear in the listed audio
devices of the Ubuntu Sound Control Panel
5) Select the device and connect some audio source (VLC Media or your favourite
player)... The quality will still be poor...
6) Now use Blueman GUI, select the device and press mouse right click and then
select the Refresh Services.
It should show a succes message in the lower status bar.
7) Right click on the headset device in Blueman GUI and select Audio Sink. If
it displays a success message your in luck.
8) Now right click the headset device in Blueman GUI and select Audio Profile
menu and then select High Fidelity Playback (A2DP). It should suceed and
switch into the correct mode.

== You will always have to issue the pulseaudio -k command from terminal
before using the headset, but it's a tolerable
work around.

Hope this works for you too. -Colum

[Bug 1311443] Re: Error switching input method

2014-04-23 Thread Shu Hung (Koala)
Not the other way around means I cannot switch from English to
Chinese (Cangjie) with super-space hot key.

My system was upgraded from Ubuntu 13.10. The problem is now fixed by
manually open Configuration Language Support and install the
package it suggested. Seems iBus + IME are not sufficient to work on
their own.

Hey Tim, thanks for posting the contents of the desktop-file.

That one looks ok, so we'd have to look whether it's being overridden by
e.g. a second desktop-file in the same directory if the bug re-occurs.
However, it *should* work.

[Bug 1311617] [NEW] After suspending, shift key is stuck down

2014-04-23 Thread Derek
Public bug reported:

When using the sticky keys accessibility feature and returning from
suspend, the right shift key is logically stuck. Note that I do not
use the right shift key, so it must be switching states on
suspend/resume.

Entering a password will fail, and through trial and error I found it is
the right shift key. Pressing this key resets the feature and allows
entering of a password normally.

This problem doesn't occur on my computer when the sticky key feature is
off.

This problem did not occur before release 14.04, so I assume it has to
do with the new unified log in screen that replaced the prior screen
on resuming from standby.
