[Bug 1311756] [NEW] Users lost after upgrade from 13.10 to 14.04
Public bug reported: I had an 32bit-ubuntu-13.10-system with an admin-account rehs and two users rolf and sabine. I installed from 32bit-ubuntu-14.10-usb-stick. I choose not to erase but to upgrade the system to 14.10. After finishing I found rehs but rolf and sabine were lost. /home/rolf and /home/sabine were still there. I performed sudo adduser rolf and got a new rolf but the warning that rolf did not own /home/rolf. [Bug 1309584] Re: [HP EliteBook Folio 9470m Notebook PC] Backlight does not work on intel driver after upgrade from 13.10 - 14.04, acpi_backlight=vendor solves
I'd like to perform a bisect to figure out what commit caused this regression. We need to identify the earliest kernel where the issue started happening as well as the latest kernel that did not have this issue. Can you test the following kernels and report back? We are looking for the first kernel version that exhibits this bug: v3.12 final: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.12-trusty/ If v3.12 final does not exhibit the bug, we should move on to testing some of the v3.13 release candidates. v3.13-rc3: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/v3.13-rc3-trusty/ If v3.13-rc3 does not exhibit the bug then test v3.13-rc6: v3.13-rc6: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.13-rc6-trusty/ If v3.13-rc3 does exhibit the bug then test v3.13-rc2: v3.13-rc2: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.13-rc2-trusty You don't have to test every kernel, just up until the kernel that first has this bug. Re: [Bug 1311382] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 does not mount MTP devices
Hello, Joseph, good afternoon. I will make a test with this kernel tonight. I can't do it right now, because I'm at work. Although I'm a developer, I've never installed different kernels in my machine before, so it is possible that I have some difficulty. Is there some readme or something that may guide me through the process of installing this new kernel? I want to contribute, but I may need some help. [Bug 1310800] Re: Trusty Thar, kernel 3.13: automatic load of wacom.ko driver cause a hard kernel panic
Ok, (relatively) good news 1) still with kernel linux- image-3.15.0-031500rc2-generic_3.15.0-031500rc2 2) I recompiled the input-wacom-0.20.0 that worked for me in 13.10, from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/linuxwacom/files/xf86-input-wacom /input-wacom/input-wacom-0.20.0.tar.bz2/download 3) I substituted the module to the stock one, then rebooted; 4) the Oops is gone. So the problem must be in the changes from 0.20.0 and the current driver in the kernel, or in some modification of the ubuntu kernel team. In the first case the bug should be easy to catch, see the list of changes: https://sourceforge.net/p/linuxwacom/input- wacom/ci/2d38b3ce57d003cbef854674a4850e38f32f8c13/log/?path= Will test now with 0.21.0 to check if the bug is there. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1310800 Title: Trusty Thar, kernel 3.13: automatic load of wacom.ko driver cause a hard kernel panic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1310800/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1311771] [NEW] Ubuntu 12.04 package for extlinux install fails with references to os-proper
Public bug reported: During a regular upgrade to my Ubuntu Desktop 12.04, the upgrade failed with an error: I: os-proper disabled in /etc/default/extlinux: Skipping /boot/extlinux /os-proper.cfg The problem comes from several typos in the Ubuntu package extlinux_3%3a6.03~pre9+drbl-1_i386.deb, particularly in the etc/extlinux.d folder of the .deb archive. First of all, the file named 0030-os-proper should be named 0030-os-prober, and the contents of the file 0030-os-prober should be edited to change any instances of os- proper to os-prober in that file. In addition, the conffiles file should be changed to reflect the change of filename from 0030-os-proper to 0030-os-prober. I have made the changes to my local package and the install proceeds correctly. I have also notified the software creator via email. A corrected version of the package is attached. ** Affects: syslinux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: corrected Debian package to change typos of os-proper to os-prober https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1311771/+attachment/4094426/+files/extlinux_3%253a6.03%7Epre9%2Bdrbl-1_i386.deb -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1311771 Title: Ubuntu 12.04 package for extlinux install fails with references to os-proper To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/syslinux/+bug/1311771/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1293497] Re: window title has incorrect subpixel antialias on high-dpi screen
Would like to add that this behavior can be seen not only in title bar. Some programs (gedit for example) and certain gtk elements (as drop-down menus) also has wrong subpixel antialiasing. Changing setting between rgb and bgr in /org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/xsettings/rgba-order makes no difference for cases mentioned above. But when changing to vrgb or vbgr there is visible difference. It looks like some internal gnome or gtk setting is hard set to bgr and doesn't get value of rgb in any case. Turning monitor and picture 180 degrees confirms this statement - the text is smooth and without any color edges. In attached screenshot you can see examples of this bug. There is picture of UbuntuTweak window, Cairo Dock tooltip and comparison between text rendering in gedit and leafpad. When you zoom image you can see that in first three cases text have red color shifted to the right, though it has to be shifted to the left. ** Attachment added: other applications affected too https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1293497/+attachment/4094425/+files/screenshot.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1293497 Title: window title has incorrect subpixel antialias on high-dpi screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1293497/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1185756] Re: drbd8-utils not compatible with linux-lts-raring kernel in 12.04
On a side note, I'm not sure why a new package where released for the raring stack? Is there a really brilliant reason for not having two different packages? On 23 Apr 2014 12:06, Stefan Bader stefan.ba...@canonical.com wrote: It is a bit odd. Ok, some warnings seems to be coming from pacemaker commands. Like the WARN: decode_transition_key: Bad UUID (crm-resource-3048) in sscanf result (3) for 0:0:crm-resource-3048 I guess the problem is this: Apr 22 21:55:43 storage0 lrmd: [1242]: info: RA output: (p_drbd_bigpool:0:start:stderr) drbdadm: Unknown command 'syncer' Apr 22 21:55:43 storage0 drbd[3079]: ERROR: bigpool: Called drbdadm -c /etc/drbd.conf syncer bigpool This would mean that drbdadm did not pass control on drbdadm-83. And that would only happen if the current version did not seem to be 8.3. That version number looks to be read from /proc/drbd and would reflect the version of the kernel module. At least as long as reading from /proc/drbd is not failing. Then it would fall back to a version number defined in the command (which would be wrong). Would have been interesting to find out whether calling drbdadm syncer bigpool manually would fail the same way but that would need another maintenance window. Maybe try to see what /proc/drbd is showing. I probably would suggest that we open a new bug report for the cluster case, so this one can be closed with the fix to drbdsetup. Then at least the direct usage seems to work. -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1185756 Title: drbd8-utils not compatible with linux-lts-raring kernel in 12.04 Status in “drbd8” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “drbd8” source package in Precise: Fix Released Bug description: Request for SRU: [Impact] DRBD will not work (hang) on fresh install using Ubuntu 12.04.3 media, and will stop working on sites where the Raring Enablement Stacks is manually installed as the API between older and newer drbd kernel modules has changed. [Fix] The current version of drbd8 utils in Saucy/Raring can be compiled with legacy utils enabled (basically drbdadm and drbdsetup) and automatically switches to use the legacy version when an older kernel module is found. Comparing the code of those two legacy tools showed them to be mostly the same (except some things that actually look like bug fixes). I only found two small issues, one was the init.d script which was changed to use a new command of drbdadm to activate resources. This would fail if drbdadm fell back to the legacy version. So I picked the shell function that the current util uses and verified that this still works with the new binary. The other problem was the default config file which contained a new open which would cause the legacy util to fail. It does not seem to be a required one in the new tools to commenting it out by default seems to work in both cases, too. Lastly (this did not seem to be a real issue) the legacy tools claimed to be a version 3.8.10 while the the code really looked like the 3.8.11 version we have in Precise. Since that also matches the version number of the drbd module in Precise I modified the legacy tools version to be 3.8.11. [Test Case] For testing compatibility with the Precise 3.2 based kernels, either just install the prepared package and verify everything still works as before (before installing any HWE kernel). Or if already having installed a HWE kernel and experiencing the issue, boot into the 3.2 kernel before installing the proposed package (or follow the downgrade instructions before booting back). To test functionality with HWE kernels, install the Raring kernel in Precise, install/configure DRBD: you get No response from the DRBD driver! Is the module loaded?. With the proposed backport the mirror continues to work. Only for switching back to an older kernel a special procedure must be followed (see comment #21): http://www.drbd.org/users-guide/s-downgrading-drbd84.html --- I've just installed linux-generic-lts-raring on 12.04.2 and my drbd device stoped working. Seems like drbd8-utils is not compatible with DRBD 8.4 in Kernel 3.8. I see that we can't upgrade the package since this would break compatibility with the older Kernels in Precise. But since the new Plans for the LTS-Enablement Stack [1] there should be a package like drbd8-utils-lts-raring. And the dependancies should be resolved automatically with apt. kind regards [1] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: linux-image-3.8.0-22-generic 3.8.0-22.33~precise1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-22.33~precise1-generic 3.8.11 Uname: Linux 3.8.0-22-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu17.2 Architecture: amd64 Date: Thu May 30 11:53:13 2013 InstallationMedia:

[Bug 1303736] Re: Black screen after login from suspend in Xubuntu 14.04
I can note that I also suffer from the issue when I disable suspending when closing the laptop lid: Settings Power Manager When laptop screen is closed: Lock Screen. In this case light-locker still locks the screen when closing the lit and the laptop display itself is also shutdown. When suspending, the laptop screen also is shutdown. So rather than 'suspend to RAM' being the culprit I argue that powering off the laptop screen (which happens both with and without suspend when closing the lid) is the cause for the blank screen after unlocking. I can confirm that the xrandr fix also works in this case (which lead me to suspect it has to do something with the monitor being shutdown), unfortunately Configure new displays when connected under Settings Displays doesn't seem to do the trick. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1303736 Title: Black screen after login from suspend in Xubuntu 14.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xfce4-power-manager/+bug/1303736/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have GT650M and I installed the proprietary driver in the source (nidia-331 331.38-0ubuntu7 from the restricted channel, nvidia-setting 331.20-0ubuntu8 and nvidia prime 0.6.2 from the main channel). Before this, I also tried to install the nvidia drive sometime when I was using 13.10. But it didn't work, causing an window corruption. I think I saw somewhere that since 319.XX and later verion, nvidia driver became better, especially for dual graphic card support. Now I and use either intel card or nvidia card and swith them using nvidia-setting (with nivida-prime installed as a request) or using prime-indicator from ppa source. But here, this problem, wrong mouse position and broken showdesktop hot corner, do exist no mather you are using nvidia card or intel card, single card or dual card... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1311323 Title: disabling Show live previews of windows in switcher leads to wrong mouse position while enabling it breaks Show Desktop hot corner To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1311323/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1264835] Re: Low graphic mode
Okey, I 've had exactly the same problem with OpenMandriva( Beta worked, RC didn't work), so I filled bug on their bugzilla and this is conclusion. OpenMandriva developer said I should try to run some commands resp. add some commands in to boot. Here is what happened. alt+ctrl+f1= nothing i915.invert_brightness=1 = Nothing xorg.blacklist= intel = nothing xorg.blacklist= ati = works xorg.blacklist= intel +nomodeset = works xorg.blacklist= ati+nomodeset = works nomodeset itself without additional commands=works Here is his reaction: It's not to much of a mystery now. It is to do with the plymouth bootsplash and kernel graphics mode setting. Basically what is happening is that plymouth is initialising graphics on the intel chip and then xorg is auto-detecting the ati adapter and switching to that. Because the the drm kernel modules are already loaded for the Intel hardware the ati driver cannot unload them and thus the ati hardware does not get it's kernel module drivers loaded which basically comes down to the fact that you get a black screen. It worked in the beta because we were loading the uvesa frame buffer driver but that caused problems with other cards. Currently automated graphics detection is a bit of a minefield to say the least!! For the moment it probably best that you add one of the working configs that you have tested to the default boot line as I described.
