[Bug 422472] Re: Suspend does not work on eeepc 1101ha (Karmic)
Experiencing the same issue on my 1101HAb. Tested in Lubuntu 14.04 LTS with current release's kernel (3.13) and upstream's kernel (3.15rc2). The good news is, another 1101HA in the house doesn't exhibit this problem. It's running the previous release of Lubuntu and is able to suspend/resume. I've tried multiple distros on my device though and I'm sure it's not a Lubuntu-specific issue. Other info: Currently, I'm booting the kernel with acpi_osi=Linux to fix a well-known backlight adjustment issue. I get many errors from apportcheckresume each time I boot. To get the other laptop working, I remember having to adjust a cups config file. Unfortunately, I don't remember which. [Bug 996968] Re: Samba needs to be stopped and restarted in order to work
This bug is still present in 14.04 LTS. Putting the following line in /etc/init/smbd.override solves it for me: start on (local-filesystems and net-device-up IFACE!=lo) (Putting this line in /etc/init/smbd.conf also works of course.) IMHO a quite long time for a security related component. The current release is 0.53-2, released 5 months ago. I suggest a version upgrade of the included naxsi component. But the more direct bug is the included tool naxsi-ui. This tool is over 2 years old, and not maintained by upstream for equally long. It was intended to be used with an even older version of naxsi and frequently generates white-list-rules with incorrect syntax for the included version of naxsi. The package naxsi-ui should be removed. Version 0.50.0 used the learning/white-list tool rules_generator.py as stated in debian/modules/naxsi/README.txt and that tool is not included in the package. The current version 0.53-2 uses yet another learning tool, nx_util.py which should be included by default in the nginx-naxsi package. [Bug 1312673] Re: software-properties-gtk crashed with aptsources.distro.NoDistroTemplateException in get_sources(): Error: could not find a distribution template for Ubuntu/utopic
Get that issue after having changing trusty to utopic inside /etc/apt/sources.list In factthat trouble is often met with a new release cycle : /usr/share/python-apt/templates/Ubuntu.info is simply not aware of utopic; Ubuntu.info needs to be upgraded with the whole utopic blocks, after the devel blocks and before the trusty blocks. So that also means that devel ignore utopic right now. As a result, synaptic - repositories cant be opened to set our preferences. Changing utopic by devel inside sources.list does not allow synaptic to open the repositories to select what we wanting. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1312673 Title: software-properties-gtk crashed with aptsources.distro.NoDistroTemplateException in get_sources(): Error: could not find a distribution template for Ubuntu/utopic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-properties/+bug/1312673/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1313024] [NEW] rcS(5) UTC option documentation error
Public bug reported: PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Quoting from http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/trusty/en/man8/hwclock.8.html: OPTIONS … UTCThis is used to govern how the hardware real time clock is interpreted when it is read (e.g., at boot time, for the purpose of setting the system clock) and when it is written (e.g., at shutdown). If this option is set to no then the system clock is assumed to be set to local time. If the option is set to yes then the system clock is assumed to be set to something approximating Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). I discovered that the last two sentences describe the opposite of the actual behavior (which for me did in fact result in a good deal of confusion problems extra time configuring my system to use rtcwake with my HW clock set to UTC). These two sentences should refer to the ‘hardware real time clock’ instead of the ‘system clock’. The actual behavior is illustrated below (along with my pertinent system information). PROPOSED CORRECTION: These last two sentences should refer to the ‘hardware real time clock’ instead of the ‘system clock’, i.e.: If this option is set to no then the hardware real time clock is assumed to be set to local time. If the option is set to yes then the hardware real time clock is assumed to be set to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). BACKGROUND: If “UTC=yes” is set in /etc/default/rcS: # assume that the BIOS clock is set to UTC time (recommended) UTC=yes … then the script in /etc/init/hwclock.conf calls: hwclock --rtc=/dev/rtc0 --systz --utc --noadjfile … and the script in /etc/init/hwclock-save.conf calls: hwclock --rtc=/dev/rtc0 --systohc --utc --noadjfile Otherwise (if ! $UTC=yes) then those respective hwclock calls are made with the ‘--localtime’ option instead of ‘--utc’. SUMMARY of the actual observed behavior: ‘hwclock --systohc --localtime’ writes the system time to the HW clock without any timezone translation (i.e., assumes that the HW clock is set to local time). ‘hwclock --systohc --utc’ translates the system time from local to UTC based on the system timezone configuration and writes the translated time (UTC) to the HW clock (i.e., assumes that the HW clock is set to UTC). ‘hwclock --systz --localtime’ writes the HW clock time to the system time without any timezone translation (i.e., assumes that the HW clock is set to local time). ‘hwclock --systz --utc’ translates the HW clock time from UTC to local based on the system timezone configuration and writes the translated time (local) to the system time (i.e., assumes that the HW clock is set to UTC). (Note that hwclock does behave consistently with its manpage.) MY SYSTEM INFORMATION: # lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. [Bug 906441] Re: intel update 2.15.901 breaks video, reverts to vesa
I stumbled into the same thing: When specifying 'nomodeset' as a kernel parameter on an Intel i915 system (built in HD4400 graphics), I sometimes used to get a black screen in 13.09. In 14.04, the system would come up, but limited to 1024x768 resolution, and the monitor would be undetected (named built in display). xrandr would offer no options, and complain that: xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default My understanding is that nomodeset disables KMS, which causes Xorg to use the Vesa driver, instead of the i915 driver. The Vesa driver then fails to detect the correct monitor resolution. Removing nomodeset and running update-grub appears to fix the problem. I don't think this deserves INVALID, since I feel that: a) vesafb should still be able to at least detect the monitor - and ideally, still be able to change the resolution b) missing KMS should be clearly and accurately reported - both from xrandr, in Xorg.0.log, and in graphics settings panel c) lacking KMS should not disable i915 (or is this unavoidable?) ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/906441 Title: intel update 2.15.901 breaks video, reverts to vesa To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/906441/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1254319] Re: Login screen goes to broken internal display, working external display shows black (unless xorg.conf set up)
With this workaround in place, desktop wallpaper (on the working display) cannot be set using the 'Appearance' configuration tool, and with automatic login the 'login screen as background' effect (the image attached to #1) is there too. Remaining changes: - Split the flex package into flex and libfl-dev, with flex as a Multi-Arch: foreign package depending on a Multi-Arch: same libfl-dev, so that flex works for cross-building. - first change fixed with package dh switch + according to the maintainer, the first change is fixed with package dh switch second one merged in debian too Changelog entries since current trusty version 2.5.35-10.1ubuntu2: flex (2.5.39-1) unstable; urgency=medium * New upstream release * internationalization: added support for various languages. Fix make install target to not fail when the flex++ program is already installed. various portability fixes that quiet compiler warnings on 64-bit hosts. numerous bug fixes. * Moved to a new dh based build system. Also moved to a 3.0 source format, using debcherry. * Bug fix: cross build support, thanks to Eleanor Chen. We have moved to a standard dh based build, so we should not have this issue any more. (Closes:#719955). * Bug fix: examples not included into binary packages, thanks to Carl Fürstenberg. Examples are in this version. (Closes: #560387). * Bug fix: new upstream release 2.5.37, thanks to Peter Eisentraut (Closes: #729759). * Bug fix: flex, new release available for download, thanks to Gianfranco Costamagna (Closes: #736345). * Bug fix: please mark flex as Multi-Arch: allowed, thanks to Steve Langasek. Redid the patch to work with dh. (Closes: #611230). * Updating to a new build system means that the changes made to the build system in the NMU are not needed, dh does the right thing. * The new upstream release added the prototypes in re-entrant mode, so we are no longer carrying those patches. -- Manoj Srivastava sriva...@debian.org Thu, 10 Apr 2014 18:06:12 -0700 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1307604 Title: Sync flex 2.5.39-4 (main) from Debian unstable (main) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/flex/+bug/1307604/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
