[Bug 422472] Re: Suspend does not work on eeepc 1101ha (Karmic)

2014-04-26 Thread Joshua Bell
Experiencing the same issue on my 1101HAb. Tested in Lubuntu 14.04 LTS
with current release's kernel (3.13) and upstream's kernel (3.15rc2).
The good news is, another 1101HA in the house doesn't exhibit this
problem. It's running the previous release of Lubuntu and is able to
suspend/resume. I've tried multiple distros on my device though and I'm
sure it's not a Lubuntu-specific issue.

Other info:
Currently, I'm booting the kernel with acpi_osi=Linux to fix a well-known
backlight adjustment issue.
I get many errors from apportcheckresume each time I boot.
To get the other laptop working, I remember having to adjust a cups config
file. Unfortunately, I don't remember which. I'm not sure if this is relevant
to the latest kernel release.

[Bug 1309452] Re: Merge 2.0.0+dfsg-2 to fix spice crashes

2014-04-26 Thread Fantu
Thanks.
I confirm that crashes with spice have been solved since I installed qemu
2.0-rc2 from source.
About the Trusty's qemu package qemu I cannot try it now, I'll use it when I'll
migrate my work laptop to Trusty, perhaps one of the following weekends.
However qemu 2.0 defined by including the patches I already tested certainly
solves crashes with spice.

[Bug 1304557] Re: rmdir: failed to remove ‘/etc/dhcp3/dhclient-enter-hooks.d’: No such file or directory

2014-04-26 Thread Daniel Savi
Bug occured during update from Kubuntu 13.10 to 14.04 and let the whole version
upgrade fail.
I've created the directory /etc/dhcp3/dhclient-enter-hooks.d manually. Then
dpkg --configure -a. That solved the problem.
Nevertheless, the cleaning up task from version upgrade did not run, so I had
to run an apt-get update, apt-get upgrade and apt-get autoremove as well.

[Bug 1313178] [NEW] screen crashes when trying to reattach after lightdm restarts

2014-04-26 Thread ianorlin
Public bug reported:

To reproduce Attach a screen session when logged into X in a terminal
emulator. deattach a screen session and log out. Log into a tty and
reattach the screen session. Then in another tty run sudo service

[Bug 996968] Re: Samba needs to be stopped and restarted in order to work

2014-04-26 Thread Adrien Beau
This bug is still present in 14.04 LTS. Putting the following line in
/etc/init/smbd.override solves it for me:

start on (local-filesystems and net-device-up IFACE!=lo)

(Putting this line in /etc/init/smbd.conf also works of course.)

Why can't this line be included in the standard smbd.conf that ships
with Ubuntu? The only downside I can see is that on computers which only
have a loopback interface, Samba will not start. But why would someone
want to use Samba in such a configuration?

[Bug 951087] Re: Samba non-functional on boot.

Note that instead of editing /etc/init/smbd.conf (which can mess up
package upgrades), you can create a file named /etc/init/smbd.override
and put the line there. Works fine for me, and solved the problem.

[Bug 1313224] [NEW] Outdated naxsi version, incorrect learning tools included in packages

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
Release:14.04

The included version of naxsi is 0.50 as stated in the source file
debian/modules/naxsi/naxsi_src/naxsi.h

Version 0.50.0 was released 2013-03-19, more then a year ago. IMHO a
quite long time for a security related component. The current release is
0.53-2, released 5 months ago. I suggest a version upgrade of the
included naxsi component.

But the more direct bug is the included tool naxsi-ui. This tool is
over 2 years old, and not maintained by upstream for equally long. It
was intended to be used with an even older version of naxsi and
frequently generates white-list-rules with incorrect syntax for the
included version of naxsi.

The package naxsi-ui should be removed.

Version 0.50.0 used the learning/white-list tool rules_generator.py as
stated in debian/modules/naxsi/README.txt and that tool is not included
in the package.

The current version 0.53-2 uses yet another learning tool, nx_util.py
which should be included by default in the nginx-naxsi package.

Since the original packaging was created naxsi have been repatriated
from google code to github, current correct upstream for naxsi should be
https://github.com/nbs-system/naxsi

Thank you for packaging two great pieces of software!

[Bug 1302004] Re: Indicator-datetime still doesn't list all events for today's date (Trusty)

2014-04-26 Thread Khurshid Alam
** Description changed:

This bug is related to this bug: Bug #1293646 (Which is marked as fix
  released)

With latest update of indicator (13.10.0+14.04.20140328-0ubuntu1) it
lists all events for all past selected dates properly (which was fixed
in bug Bug #1293646) except today's date. When I click on any past date
  in calendar it shows:

  1. all all-day events for the day.
  2. all events with time for the day
  3. upcoming (future) all-day events
  4. upcoming (future) events with time

But when I click on today's date it only shows:

  1. future all day events
  2. future events with time

I still have to click on previous day's date to find out all all-day
  events for today.

- The behavior(showing all events for a day) should be same for any date,
+ The behavior (showing all events for a day) should be same for any date,
  including today's date.

Thanks for the quick answer.
But I would not expect the python interpreter to crash because of a wrong

Exactly as I do not expect the shell to crash because a program core dumps.
Would you?
Please consider revising your decision.

[Bug 1294669] Re: bash crashed with SIGABRT in programming_error()

2014-04-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package bash - 4.3-7ubuntu1

---
bash (4.3-7ubuntu1) trusty-proposed; urgency=medium

  * Merge with Debian, replacing local with upstream patches. LP:
#1294669.

bash (4.3-7) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Apply upstream patches 009 - 011 (replacing local patches):
- Fix a problem with unsigned sign extension when attempting to reallocate
the input line when it is fewer than 3 characters long and there has been
a history expansion. The sign extension causes the shell to not
reallocate the line, which results in a segmentation fault when it writes
  past the end.
- Change the behavior of programmable completion to compensate for two
assumptions made by the bash-completion package.
- The signal handling changes to bash and readline (to avoid running any
code in a signal handler context) cause the cursor to be placed on the
wrong line of a multi-line command after a ^C interrupts editing.

[Bug 1312673] Re: software-properties-gtk crashed with aptsources.distro.NoDistroTemplateException in get_sources(): Error: could not find a distribution template for Ubuntu/utopic

2014-04-26 Thread dino99
Get that issue after having changing trusty to utopic inside
/etc/apt/sources.list
In factthat trouble is often met with a new release cycle :

/usr/share/python-apt/templates/Ubuntu.info

is simply not aware of utopic; Ubuntu.info needs to be upgraded with
the whole utopic blocks, after the devel blocks and before the
trusty blocks.

So that also means that devel ignore utopic right now. As a result,
synaptic - repositories cant be opened to set our preferences. Changing
utopic by devel inside sources.list does not allow synaptic to open
the repositories to select what we wanting.

[Bug 1203128] Re: Empathy not respecting Online Accounts settings

2014-04-26 Thread Walter Garcia-Fontes
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test
it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running
apport-collect bug # and any other logs that are relevant for this
particular issue.

[Bug 1313024] [NEW] rcS(5) UTC option documentation error

2014-04-26 Thread Geoffrey Hager
Public bug reported:

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

Quoting from
http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/trusty/en/man8/hwclock.8.html:

OPTIONS … UTCThis is used to govern how the hardware real
time clock is interpreted when it is read (e.g., at boot time, for the
purpose of setting the system clock) and when it is written (e.g., at
shutdown). If this option is set to no then the system clock is assumed
to be set to local time. If the option is set to yes then the system
clock is assumed to be set to something approximating
Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).

I discovered that the last two sentences describe the opposite of the
actual behavior (which for me did in fact result in a good deal of
confusion problems extra time configuring my system to use rtcwake
with my HW clock set to UTC). These two sentences should refer to the
‘hardware real time clock’ instead of the ‘system clock’. The actual
behavior is illustrated below (along with my pertinent system
information).

PROPOSED CORRECTION:

These last two sentences should refer to the ‘hardware real time clock’
instead of the ‘system clock’, i.e.:

If this option is set to no then the hardware real time clock is
assumed to be set to local time. If the option is set to yes then
the hardware real time clock is assumed to be set to Coordinated
Universal Time (UTC).

BACKGROUND:

If “UTC=yes” is set in /etc/default/rcS:

  # assume that the BIOS clock is set to UTC time (recommended)
  UTC=yes

… then the script in /etc/init/hwclock.conf calls:

 hwclock --rtc=/dev/rtc0 --systz --utc --noadjfile

… and the script in /etc/init/hwclock-save.conf calls:

 hwclock --rtc=/dev/rtc0 --systohc --utc --noadjfile

Otherwise (if ! $UTC=yes) then those respective hwclock calls are made
with the ‘--localtime’ option instead of ‘--utc’.

SUMMARY of the actual observed behavior:

‘hwclock --systohc --localtime’ writes the system time to the HW clock
without any timezone translation (i.e., assumes that the HW clock is set
to local time).

‘hwclock --systohc --utc’ translates the system time from local to UTC
based on the system timezone configuration and writes the translated
time (UTC) to the HW clock (i.e., assumes that the HW clock is set to
UTC).

‘hwclock --systz --localtime’ writes the HW clock time to the system
time without any timezone translation (i.e., assumes that the HW clock
is set to local time).

‘hwclock --systz --utc’ translates the HW clock time from UTC to local
based on the system timezone configuration and writes the translated
time (local) to the system time (i.e., assumes that the HW clock is set
to UTC).

(Note that hwclock does behave consistently with its manpage.)

[Bug 906441] Re: intel update 2.15.901 breaks video, reverts to vesa

2014-04-26 Thread Ketil Malde
I stumbled into the same thing: When specifying 'nomodeset' as a kernel
parameter on an Intel i915 system (built in HD4400 graphics), I
sometimes used to get a black screen in 13.09. In 14.04, the system
would come up, but limited to 1024x768 resolution, and the monitor would
be undetected (named built in display). xrandr would offer no
options, and complain that:

xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default

My understanding is that nomodeset disables KMS, which causes Xorg to
use the Vesa driver, instead of the i915 driver. The Vesa driver then
fails to detect the correct monitor resolution. Removing nomodeset
and running update-grub appears to fix the problem.

I don't think this deserves INVALID, since I feel that:

a) vesafb should still be able to at least detect the monitor - and ideally,
still be able to change the resolution
b) missing KMS should be clearly and accurately reported - both from xrandr,
in Xorg.0.log, and in graphics settings panel
c) lacking KMS should not disable i915 (or is this unavoidable?)

[Bug 1254319] Re: Login screen goes to broken internal display, working external display shows black (unless xorg.conf set up)

2014-04-26 Thread Jani Uusitalo
With this workaround in place, desktop wallpaper (on the working
display) cannot be set using the 'Appearance' configuration tool, and
with automatic login the 'login screen as background' effect (the image
attached to #1) is there too. This could be Bug #1159430, and as
mentioned there, I can work around it using Compiz' Wallpaper plugin
(i.e. setting a wallpaper in Compiz sets it on the external display).

[Bug 1313024] Re: rcS(5) UTC option documentation error

2014-04-26 Thread Geoffrey Hager
** Description changed:

  PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

  Quoting from
- http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/trusty/en/man8/hwclock.8.html:
+ http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/trusty/en/man5/rcS.5.html:

-
  PROPOSED CORRECTION:

These last two sentences should refer to the ‘hardware real time clock’
instead of the ‘system clock’, i.e.:

If this option is set to no then the hardware real time clock is
assumed to be set to local time. If the option is set to yes then
the hardware real time clock is assumed to be set to Coordinated
  Universal Time (UTC).

-
  BACKGROUND:

If “UTC=yes” is set in /etc/default/rcS:

- # assume that the BIOS clock is set to UTC time (recommended)
- UTC=yes
+   # assume that the BIOS clock is set to UTC time (recommended)
+   UTC=yes

… then the script in /etc/init/hwclock.conf calls:

- hwclock --rtc=/dev/rtc0 --systz --utc --noadjfile
+  hwclock --rtc=/dev/rtc0 --systz --utc --noadjfile

… and the script in /etc/init/hwclock-save.conf calls:

- hwclock --rtc=/dev/rtc0 --systohc --utc --noadjfile
+  hwclock --rtc=/dev/rtc0 --systohc --utc --noadjfile

Otherwise (if ! $UTC=yes) then those respective hwclock calls are made
with the ‘--localtime’ option instead of ‘--utc’.
-

[Bug 1307604] Re: Sync flex 2.5.39-4 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2014-04-26 Thread LocutusOfBorg
-4 just uploaded in debian, will be available in a few hors

** Description changed:

Please sync flex 2.5.39-4 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
    * Preseed autoconf vars ac_cv_func_malloc_0_nonnull=yes and
  ac_cv_func_realloc_0_nonnull for cross builds.
    * Resynchronise with Debian. Remaining changes:
  - Split the flex package into flex and libfl-dev, with flex as a
    Multi-Arch: foreign package depending on a Multi-Arch: same libfl-dev,
so that flex works for cross-building.

- first change fixed with package dh switch
+ according to the maintainer, the first change is fixed with package dh switch
second one merged in debian too

Changelog entries since current trusty version 2.5.35-10.1ubuntu2:

  flex (2.5.39-1) unstable; urgency=medium

    * New upstream release
    * internationalization: added support for various languages. Fix make
install target to not fail when the flex++ program is already
installed. various portability fixes that quiet compiler warnings on
  64-bit hosts. numerous bug fixes.
    * Moved to a new dh based build system. Also moved to a 3.0 source
  format, using debcherry.
    * Bug fix: cross build support, thanks to Eleanor Chen. We have moved
to a standard dh based build, so we should not have this issue any more.
  (Closes:#719955).
    * Bug fix: examples not included into binary packages, thanks to Carl
Fürstenberg. Examples are in this version. (Closes: #560387).
    * Bug fix: new upstream release 2.5.37, thanks to Peter Eisentraut
  (Closes: #729759).
    * Bug fix: flex, new release available for download, thanks to
  Gianfranco Costamagna (Closes: #736345).
    * Bug fix: please mark flex as Multi-Arch: allowed, thanks to Steve
Langasek. Redid the patch to work with dh. (Closes: #611230).
    * Updating to a new build system means that the changes made to the
build system in the NMU are not needed, dh does the right thing.
    * The new upstream release added the prototypes in re-entrant mode, so
we are no longer carrying those patches.
