[Bug 1325847] [NEW] Improvement: initscript enhancement with support for conf.d and configtest on startup
Public bug reported: The haproxy initscript misses a configtest option, which haproxy natively supports. It also does not warn the user, if haproxy has been disabled in the default file, but exits silently. Also, it has become a de-facto standard for daemons to include conf.d configuration file support. I attached a patch for the current init script, which remedies all these issues and should be forward/backward compatible to haproxy 1.3/1.4/1.5. ** Affects: haproxy (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: improvement init patch ** Patch added: patch for current haproxy init.d script https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1325847/+attachment/4124542/+files/haproxy_init.patch ** Description changed: - The haproxy initscript misses a configtest option, which haproxy natively supports. [Bug 1325847] Re: Improvement: initscript enhancement with support for conf.d and configtest on startup
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. haproxy in Ubuntu is currently identical to the Debian haproxy package from which it is derived, so it seems likely to me that Debian will benefit from this patch, too. I would also like to avoid the additional maintenance burden of forking Debian's packaging if possible, and this is better community etiquette anyway. Please could you verify if this patch is suitable for Debian also, and if so, forward it to the Debian bug tracker? Then Ubuntu will automatically sync the patch after it is uploaded to Debian. ** Tags added: needs-upstream-report -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to haproxy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1325847 Title: Improvement: initscript enhancement with support for conf.d and configtest on startup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/haproxy/+bug/1325847/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1083719 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1083719 Marking this as a duplicate of bug #1083719. open-vm-tools with an HWE kernel (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack) is broken. You are running with the HWE kernel from Raring. As an alternative to 1083719 if you can upgrade to a Saucy or Trusty HWE kernel you could try the new open-vm-tools-lts-trusty packages which are being introduced in bug #1275656. open-vm-dkms is unable to build drivers on Precise currently for both the stock 3.2 kernel and the newer HWE (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack) kernels. For those needing an HWE kernel in your Precise installation, the Saucy or newer HWE kernels are supported by a new open-vm-tools-lts-trusty package being introduced in bug #1275656. Older kernels, which are still supported, will still require a fix in open-vm-dkms as the newer packages mentioned above require a v3.9 or newer kernel. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to open-vm-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1083719 Title: open-vm-dkms 2011.12.20-562307-0ubuntu1: open-vm-tools kernel module failed to build [error: implicit declaration of function ‘d_alloc_root’] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/open-vm-tools/+bug/1083719/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1257435] Re: Chef does not run with all install types
It does seem that the bug you're reporting is valid. I'm not very familiar at all with chef, though. Had I looked at this code, I would have just expected that something would run that automatically in the other install paths (packages or omnibus). It really looks like we're expecting for the install path to hook up the running of chef-client. I just verified that the package install of 'chef' from the ubuntu archive will install a /etc/init.d/chef-client script. That script will then either run at the appropriate time later in boot (if cloud-init does nothing) or via the package's postinst script (if cloud-init installs something). So heres the table of conditions as I see them, looking at the current trunk version of cloudinit/config/cc_chef.py: 1.) /usr/bin/chef-client exists and force_install not set packages's /etc/init.d/chef-client will run chef-client. for other install path, generally *assumed* that there is some mechanism for running on boot. 2.) /usr/bin/chef-client does not exist or force-install set. 2A) gems: cloud-init runs chef-client -d -i 1800 -s 20 2B) packages: package's postinst script will run chef-client via /etc/init.d/chef-client 2C) omnibus: assumption is that executing 'omnibus_url' would result in chef-client being executed *or* setting up execution to work on first boot that would happen later. So which of those cases is wrong? Sorry its taken so long to get a look at this, but the code generally seems sane to me at this point. Theres no reason to run chef-client if its going to be run elsewhere. Please answer and set this back to 'new' or 'triaged' . There is still a case that would be odd if: - instance has /etc/network/interfaces configured for 'auto eth0' - instance has no local datasource - network datasource (openstack) had a network interfaces config for eth0. at that point, the network would have already been up, and I'm really just not keen on bouncing networking. Perhaps in that case, write the network config and then reboot, to come back up configured correctly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to cloud-init in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1316357 Title: Network interface IP address not set on first boot if config drive used To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/1316357/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1326049] [NEW] init script deletes /dev/ipmi0
Public bug reported: According to the init script, it deletes '/dev/ipmi0' whether or not udev is in use for compatibility with kernels compiled for other distributions. # NOTES: # * /dev/ipmi0 is unconditionally deleted here on ipmi_devintf unload, # because SLES9 and RHEL4 kernels don't send a message for udev to delete # it for us. If you boot up with ipmi modules compiled into the kernel, the init script will delete out '/dev/ipmi0' and never re-create it since it tries to re-create the device by re-inserting the module. I'm currently working around this problem by using the same check for udev used elsewhere in the script, and never deleting the device files in the first place. [Bug 1325560] Re: kvm vm loses network connectivity under enough load
yes, i've used the same virtual machines in both cases. everything is the same except the driver. I switch from virtio to e1000 glance image-update --property hw_vif_model=e1000 image-id Now I relaunch the virtual cluster and everything works perfectly fine. I've tested with 5 times the load but it doesnt crash anymore. I have tested the same cluster configuration with virtio on Centos 6.5 kernel 2.6.32-431.17.1.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed May 7 23:32:49 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux and that crashes too.
