[Bug 1330118] [NEW] Software-center isn't able to deal with root priviledge (which are mandatory to install a software, may I recall…)
Public bug reported: I have already reported this, but as it's still not working, I guess no one reads the bugs there… great. Here is the usual problem: I download a package from the Internet, typically Google-talk's plugin. It's a package, I double click on it and software-center launches itself. I ask to install/upgrade the software… and I'm facing an *error* saying that I have no priviledge to install this application. This error is a stupid error from dpkg saying “I'm not run as root!”. Is that so complex to ask for the root password before installing something and running dpkg?!? [Bug 1330122] [NEW] Rename file ; keyboard echo fails after 2nd shifted char +...
Public bug reported: In Nemo 1.8.4-1.1, the rename box stops echoing characters after the 2nd shifted character (provided there is SOMETHING non-shifted after the first shifted char). Example: I want to enter ThisIsAFileName, but the only thing visible in the box is This ThisisaFileName shows only Thisisa works, but HhH shows only Hh I noticed this with capital letters, but then, on an impulse, tested shifted non-letters... !111!!! echos only !111 [I just noticed something: only works if YOU HOLD DOWN THE SHIFT KEY (i.e. if you type shift it works, but NOT if you try shiftHshiftHshiftHshiftH == only H)] backspace counts as a letter: If I type HH, and then backspace, there is no more echo: H If I enter HH and backspace twice, there is - type fine, but then try to type H, one is left with only the BUT: shift-backspace seems to work the same as backspace, but HH shift-H-H-backspace-backspace-H-H (shift pressed and HELD) == HH Note: Nemo is still reading the keyboard input, and when enter is pressed, the name will show everything. If ctrl-v is used to copy into the rename box, it acts the same as a shifted char: If the clipboard contains box, ctrl-vctrl-vctrl-v yields boxboxbox, but if ctrl-v then a space, then ctrl-v, one gets only box . If ctrl-v then a backspace, then ctrl-v, one gets only bo [Note that SOMETIMES, the FIRST ctrl-v yields nothing - it seems intermittent - maybe every 3rd or 4th attempt...] If one types something (say tom )and selects it and delete/copies (ctrl-x), then if one does ctrl-v-v-v one sees tom tom tom , but if one does ctrl-vctrl-vctrl-v one sees nothing at all. If one combines shift and ctrl (say, typing Tom (capital T this time), then even the ctrl-z doesn't seem to have an effect - Tom remains in the box, selected... I speculate, that if other modification keys (alt, windows, OTHER alt, etc.) can generate visible output (especially with other languages - like the Euro symbol in German), they may have the same effect as shift and ctrl, but I have not tested them. I summarize my results as follows: the second time a character- modification key is pressed seems to turn off echoing. - scott@scott-AsusM2N68-AM-Plus:~$ uname -a Linux scott-AsusM2N68-AM-Plus 3.13.0-29-generic-tuxonice #53~ppa1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jun 6 17:27:38 UTC 2014 i686 athlon i686 GNU/Linux scott@scott-AsusM2N68-AM-Plus:~$ lsb_release -dsc Ubuntu 14.04 LTS trusty scott@scott-AsusM2N68-AM-Plus:~$ echo $DESKTOP_SESSION Lubuntu ** Affects: nemo (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1330122 Title: Rename file ; keyboard echo fails after 2nd shifted char +... Hi Chris: I updated my bios a few days ago. I can confirm that two sleep problems continue to occur: About half the time I try to suspend to RAM, the system wakes back up spontaneously a few seconds after apparently shutting down. And, once so far, the system has fallen asleep on its own, and then wakes back up again a few seconds later. [Bug 1330128] [NEW] Enabling 'radeon.dpm=1' kernel parameter makes Xorg full crash
Public bug reported: When you try to enable 'radeon.dpm=1' parameter into ubuntu linux kernel it makes strange things with display server like: corrupt graphics, screen blinks and other crazy stuff. However, if you try to watch a movie, xorg crashes and you have to restart your computer because you can't run any action, i mean, the screen frezes. In the other hand, i actually don't know if xorg-server crashes because of 'radeon.dpm=1', or it's radeon driver itself which is crashing xorg- server using 'radeon.dpm=1 parameter. I'm using a AMD Radeon HD of the 6800 series in Ubuntu Trusty Tahr 14.04. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: dpm kernel radeon ubuntu xorg xorg-server ** Description changed: When you try to enable 'radeon.dpm=1' parameter into ubuntu linux kernel it makes strange things with display server like: corrupt graphics, screen blinks and other crazy stuff. [Bug 1330131] [NEW] all windows suddenly stopped responding to mouse interaction (closing, moving and switching windows)
Public bug reported: All of a sudden, compiz went completely berserk. All basic window functionality related to mouse clicks stopped working: - I could not close a window by clicking on its close button (you could see the button being pressed, but it wouldn't close the window) - I could not move a window by clicking on its title bar and dragging - I could not give focus to a window by clicking on it. At first I thought the system had become unresponsive due to some process eating much CPU (discarded that running top) or eating much memory hence causing thrashing. But then I realized the system was not unresponsive at all. I could switch windows seamlessly using alt+tab. Once focused, each and every application responded well to keyboard. I killed some processes that I wrongly though may be hanging the system: Google Chrome, Nautilus, Thunderbird... nothing fixed the issue. Finally I realized it was purely a window interaction thing, so I killed compiz (which caused it to restart) and the issue was fixed. The last thing I had done at the moment when the issue started, was double clicking on an svg file in Nautilus to open it in eog. During all the time the issue lasted, the file never even opened in eog, and there was not even any eog process running. (it was a pretty big svg file, but I have been opening it in svg thousands of times in these days). [Bug 1327828] Re: [Asus G53JW] Cannot change keyboard backlight brightness
I've been doing some investigation and have discovered the following. If I perform these commands the back-light changes: echo 0 | sudo tee /sys/class/leds/asus::kbd_backlight/brightness echo 1 | sudo tee /sys/class/leds/asus::kbd_backlight/brightness echo 2 | sudo tee /sys/class/leds/asus::kbd_backlight/brightness echo 3 | sudo tee /sys/class/leds/asus::kbd_backlight/brightness Also there is a script called /etc/acpi/asus-keyboard-backlight.sh I thought maybe this script wasn't being called and remapped the keys to the script and it still would not work. So I manually entered each script line and tested which worked fine accept I couldn't test this line: if [ $1 = down ]; then I assume the $1 variable is only passed when called by the keyboard handler or is it possible this is the problem? How do I discover if this is being passed? How do I figured out if the script is even being called by the keyboard handler? I have enough information now to make a workaround but would like to see this fixed in future versions. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1327828 Title: [Asus G53JW] Cannot change keyboard backlight brightness To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1327828/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

For me, the greeter respects that setting unless the Span option is selected (which leads to behavior as in the Scale option). This is with dual (and identical) monitors on Ubuntu 14.04. That is, the dual-monitor wallpaper I normally span across the two monitors is shown by the greeter as scaled and mirrored on the two monitors instead of spanned. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1181524 Title: Wallpaper Resizing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-greeter/+bug/1181524/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1161498]

[Bug 1161498]
As has been identified this is a problem with http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?id=863d528a9f76d0e8f122aebf19f8564a4c67a938 . Specifically the reordering created seriously messes up the algorithm in certain cases (causing offsets of the starting point for instance). I examined what could possibly cause this error in the first place and the only way I can see this drawing to an off-screen location is if, on the last pass through the X_AXIS while look the !mask if is triggered, pushing the dst out of the range (presumably the last point drawn was the lower right corner, or some other pixel that one to the right of would be a segfault pixel). Then the e=0 if is triggered which causes another write to this invalid location. However, bits will be 0 at this point because it was just set to 0, therefore the write can be masked by an if (bits) which will always fail in this off-screen condition and therefore save us from a write to an invalid location. There is no similar condition that can cause a write to an invalid location when the axis is Y_AXIS because the only write is at the very top of the loop. Therefore, the sum total of the following patch is to revert 863d528a9f76d0e8f122aebf19f8564a4c67a938 and add the if around the second write in the X_AXIS while statement. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1161498 Title: Title bar not showing when using Greybird To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/1161498/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1330141] [NEW] Aptana Studio 3 causes xserver to crash
Public bug reported: I have been using Aptana Studio 3 3.4.1 today and it has caused my xsession to crash several times. I find myself looking at an ASCII console. This only happens when I am actively working with Aptana Studio 3. It happens while doing various actions in Aptana such as browsing directories or editing html files. it didn't happen the last time I used Aptana, which was well over a year ago. There have been reports on the web of Aptana crashing after upgrading to 14.04, but none I can find mention the xserver dying. What should happen: If Aptana has to crash the xserver should not come down with it.
