[Bug 1349879] Re: powering off an usb3 device causes kernel to resume immediately after suspend

2014-08-01 Thread b3nmore
I did some further testing with following results: I can reestablish the
correct suspend behavior by plugging in the drive, mounting, unmounting
and unplugging the drive without powering down. This has to be done on
exactly the same port, which triggered the misbehavior (other ports will
not work).

I experienced the same behaviour as Jeremy, but it is not reliable.
E.g., after lightdm restart everything seems to work properly.

Not sure if the same as #1349128, because in my case the password input
box inside the login box is not displayed at all.

If it can be helpful, in my case Synergy is running and Chrome is not.

[Bug 1351238] [NEW] Install problem Brother-DCP 7065DN

2014-08-01 Thread David Oxland
Public bug reported:

While working through the printer install process
The printer was found and correctly identified as DCP-7065DN
However the list of drivers offered did not include this and recommended
driver DCP-7045N which did not work.
Experimenting with choosing and finally choosing DCP-8065DN did work and the
printer functions properly just blind luck.
What I expected was to be offered the correct driver by name.
This may be an error in naming or transcription; not sure.
Very frustrating, to be sure and took a fair amount of work to find the right
driver.

[Bug 1351237] [NEW] MAAS install breaks resolvconf

2014-08-01 Thread Hag K
Public bug reported:

Version:
Ubuntu Server 14.04 with current packages

Problem:
After installing the maas package, the resolveconf functionality stops
working.

Use Case:
The MAAS machine and all other commissioned machines are virtual machines
running on KVM. In order to be able to resolve the commissioned machines by
their machine names from the MAAS machine itself, the MAAS machine needs to
look up 127.0.0.1 (i.e. its own MAAS DNS). In addition, it also needs to look
up a second DNS server for the Intranet (i.e. so it can find my internal
apt-get proxy).

Workaround:
Edit the /etc/hosts file and add all required machine references. A bit
cumbersome but it works around the problem.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Create a default Ubuntu Server 14.04 machine with one NIC, which has
a static IP address. Make sure that you specify two DNS servers of which
127.0.0.1 is the first in order. Below is an example
/etc/network/interfaces file. Note: Adjust accordingly to suit your
network.

# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

# The primary network interface
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 10.100.10.150
netmask 255.255.255.0
network 10.100.10.0
broadcast 10.100.10.255
gateway 10.100.10.1
dns-nameservers 127.0.0.1 10.2.2.1
dns-search your.company.com

3. Restart the machine
4. Run cat /etc/resolv.conf and verify that it only shows 127.0.0.1 but not
10.2.2.1

Note: I guess this is working as designed?

5. Add the following line to the /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/tail
file. Note: Adjust IP accordingly to suit your network.

nameserver 10.2.2.1

6. Run sudo resolvconf -u
7. Run cat /etc/resolv.conf and verify that both DNS servers are listed

8. Ping a machine which gets resolved via the DNS server 10.2.2.1 to
verify that resolvconf works.

9. Install MAAS sudo apt-get install maas

10. After the MAAS installation has finished, run cat /etc/resolv.conf
and verify that it still shows both DNS server entries!

11. However, try to ping a machine which gets resolved via the second
DNS server (i.e. 10.2.2.1). Note that the machine does not get resolved
any more and as a result you get ping: unknown host.

Attempted fix:
I tried to fix this problem by re-installing resolvconf but this didn't make
any difference. Attempted steps are outlined below.

A1: Edited the /etc/hosts file and added a reference to my apt-get proxy
server so that apt-get works
A2. Run
sudo apt-get remove --purge resolvconf sudo apt-get install resolvconf
A3. Removed the previously added entry from the /etc/hosts file
A4. Added the entry to the /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/tail file again
A5. Restarted the machine
A6. Tried to ping a machine, which gets resolved via DNS 10.2.2.1 but it was
still not resolving the machine name.

[Bug 1349711] Re: Machine lockup in btrfs-transaction

2014-08-01 Thread Peter Waller
btrfs was created with `mkfs.btrfs /dev/mapper/vg-lv`.

It isn't a hard requirement except that it's a pain to migrate since
that requires downtime to move the files. Something I'd rather not do
unless absolutely necessary. The machine freezes are inconvenient but
represent a few minutes downtime if the machine is rebooted on hangup.

[Bug 1332900] Re: [Alienware 18, Realtek ALC668, Speaker, Internal] Playback problem

2014-08-01 Thread David Henningsson
I am uncertain if HDA retask made permanent changes to the mapping? I chose
 boot override and then restarted.
When relaunching hdajackretask i see that none of the overrides are checked.

This sounds like a bug in hdajackretask.

I still do not understand which nodes are for which speakers.

This is what we need you to figure out. I suggest you try the following:
Start hdajackretask and make sure show unconnected pins is checked.
1) Override all nodes to Not connected except the first one, which you set to
Internal Speaker. Click Apply now. Verify that sound is not muted. Do a
sound test and see if you hear anything.
2) Now, override all nodes to Not connected except the second one, which you
set to Internal Speaker. Click Apply now. Verify that sound is not muted.
Do a sound test and see if you hear anything.
3) Override all nodes to Not connected except the third one...

...and continue until you have tested all pins. If a pin can't be set to
Internal Speaker because it does not show in the drop down, you can skip that
pin.
During testing, other I/O will disappear (Mic, Headphones etc). This is
expected.

If you at any point hear output from the primary speakers, let us know
which node it was.

[Bug 1351242] [NEW] Problems with USB 3.0 since 3.2.0-64 (at least) with Asus mainboard

2014-08-01 Thread Johannes Becker

The problem first occurred with the kernel upgrade to 3.2.0-64 (I guess)
and a Seagate USB 3.0 external HD.

Before the kernel update, everything worked fine.

I guess it is this bug: https://lists.debian.org/debian-

[Bug 1252733] Re: [XPS 12-9Q33, Realtek ALC668, Black Headphone Out, Left] Background noise or low volume

2014-08-01 Thread David Henningsson
Hi and thanks for reporting and working on this bug!

First thing to know is that different machines have different PCI SSIDs.
For information about this, look at the PCI SSID section of
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/SameHardware

If you have PCI SSID 1028:05fe or 1028:060a, the fix for the noise issue
is upstream. You can test the daily drivers by following the
instructions here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/UpgradingAlsa/DKMS

The original poster has PCI SSID 1028:05e3. If you have another PCI
SSID, the first step is to post your alsa-info in this bug. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo - that will give us more
information about your hardware, including your PCI SSID. You can also
file a new bug using the ubuntu-bug audio command and give a notice in
this bug with a link to a new bug.

Hopefully I or some other audio developer will have time to look at it -
but unfortunately I can't promise any quick response right now.

[Bug 1346734] Re: Unprivileged LXC containers don't work under systemd

2014-08-01 Thread Martin Pitt
I have an unprivileged container setup in my test VM now, and they
continue to work with 208. However, LXC under systemd currently requires
some work (bug 1312532 and bug 1350947), so this should land first so
that system-level containers work under systemd. Then I'll look into the
cgroups issue.

Stéphane, can I check this without LXC somehow? I think my session
processes already are in all cgroups:

$ cat /proc/$$/cgroup
10:hugetlb:/
9:perf_event:/
8:blkio:/
7:net_cls,net_prio:/
6:freezer:/
5:devices:/
4:memory:/
3:cpu,cpuacct:/
2:cpuset:/
1:name=systemd:/user.slice/user-1000.slice/session-c2.scope

$ grep $$ /sys/fs/cgroup/*/cgroup.procs
/sys/fs/cgroup/blkio/cgroup.procs:2898
/sys/fs/cgroup/cpuacct/cgroup.procs:2898
/sys/fs/cgroup/cpu/cgroup.procs:2898
/sys/fs/cgroup/cpu,cpuacct/cgroup.procs:2898
/sys/fs/cgroup/cpuset/cgroup.procs:2898
/sys/fs/cgroup/devices/cgroup.procs:2898
/sys/fs/cgroup/freezer/cgroup.procs:2898
/sys/fs/cgroup/hugetlb/cgroup.procs:2898
/sys/fs/cgroup/memory/cgroup.procs:2898
/sys/fs/cgroup/net_cls/cgroup.procs:2898
/sys/fs/cgroup/net_cls,net_prio/cgroup.procs:2898
/sys/fs/cgroup/net_prio/cgroup.procs:2898
/sys/fs/cgroup/perf_event/cgroup.procs:2898

Or do I misunderstand this?

to your BIOS is available (3703). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate does it change anything? If it
doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report. As well, you don't have to create a new
bug report.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1351092] Re: Configuration of the Droid Sans Fallback font

Could you please test and let us know?

So this seems to be all about packaging/configuration. The question is
what to do next...

[Bug 1240875] Re: Need to reboot the phone to have it pick up a new language setting

2014-08-01 Thread Michał Sawicz
We have the wizard now, so things work as expected on first boot. I
don't think we should spend any time on live-switching locales (except
maybe for 12h/24h clock?), as it's not something you ever really do on
your phone.

The settings app should probably just recommend a reboot/session restart
after you change your locale and warn that if you skip that you'll only
see newly started software in the new language?

[Bug 1351267] [NEW] Installer Crashes With Large Memory And Small Disk

2014-08-01 Thread Matthew
Public bug reported:

I was trying to install Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS on an Oracle VirtualBox VM
with 6.5GB of RAM and 8GB (default for a new Virtual HDD on VirtualBox)
of disk space.

I selected the option Erase disk and install Ubuntu (and post crash
Erase Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS and reinstall) and let it use the defaults.

The installer gives the error:

Some of the partitions you created are too small. Please make the
following partitions at least this large:

 / 3.4 GB

If you do not go back to the partitioner and increase the size of these
partitions, the installation may fail.

The message is very confusing to a new user who did not specify any
partition sizes themselves.

The installer created a 6GB Swap partition on the 8GB drive. The
installer then could not install to the root partition and failed
midway:

The installer encountered an error copying files to the hard disk:

[Errno 28] No space left on device

This is due to there being insufficient disk space for the install to
complete on the target partition. Please run the installer again and
select a larger partition to install into.

..then a box appears stating that the installer has crashed:

Installer crashed

We're sorry; the installer crashed. After you close this window, we'll
allow you to file a bug report using the integrated bug reporting tool.
This will gather information about your system and your installation
process. The details will be sent to our bug tracker and a developer
will attend to the problem as soon as possible.

The box cannot be closed. No bug reporting tool launches. The computer
requires restarting to become usable again.

Please let me know if you need any more information as this is my first
bug report.

Thanks for your time,
Matthew

[Bug 1225612] Re: Lack of packaged 3D Printing Software

2014-08-01 Thread Kjetil Andre Johannessen
Or is the focus on mobile an unexplored opportunity? I would love the
option of controlling my printer using an ubuntu phone rather than a big
clumsy laptop. You can't do design on a touch-screen, but downloading
models from thingiverse, slicing them and feeding them through a
printer-interface (pronterface) should be doable on a mobile device.

2014-08-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Johannes Becker, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available
from the very top line at the top of the page (not the daily folder) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream
kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this
bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.16-rc7

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Bug 1349711] Re: Machine lockup in btrfs-transaction

2014-08-01 Thread Stefan Bader
Maybe different default options. I don't think a PV guest will know the
difference of the backing real device. Would those not all be just blkfront pv
block devices? Probably another detail we might be interested in here. If the
device name for the pv was xvd* then its a pv disk (not using ec2 that much to
know all things that might be possible).
And I am not saying the metadata+DUP thing is bad. But maxybe something to ask
those people that have a better clue on btrfs. ;)

[Bug 705988] Re: [master] Untrusted packages can not be installed

2014-08-01 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Whether a package installer is a tech support tool is irrelevant; the
point is that this bug tracker is not a tech support tool. And the 1277
extra words you posted still do not contain any steps to reproduce the
problem, they have just made the report noisier. If you can't help fix
the bug, I suggest posting to askubuntu.com instead.

lxc-android-config (0.182) utopic; urgency=medium

  * divert rsyslog logrotate config and ship /etc/logrotate.d/touch-syslog as

[Bug 1351282] Re: Sometimes USB does not work.

2014-08-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Rob van den Berg, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top
line at the top of the page (not the daily folder) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream
kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this
bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.16-rc7

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Bug 1350620] Re: Thinkpad x230 rapidly increasing Load_Cycle_Count on battery

2014-08-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Casey Marshall, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As
per http://download.lenovo.com/express/ddfm.html an update to your BIOS is
available (2.61).

[Bug 1351283] [NEW] ttf-lyx package in PPA should be fonts-lyx

Having installed lyx from the PPA, I find its ttf-lyx package duplicates
rather than replaces Ubuntu's fonts-lyx package; the latter name appears
