[Bug 1291321] Re: migration fails between 12.04 Precise and 14.04 Trusty

2014-08-10 Thread Matt Mullins
That's awesome. I just got a chance to test it out, and with a couple
hiccups (below), I seem to have successfully migrated a guest from a
precise host to a new trusty one.

It looks like qemu failed to build in Serge's PPA due to the spice that
also lives in that PPA. I built the qemu from the source in that PPA,
and it built without modification.

I also got 'pci_add_option_rom: failed to find romfile pxe-
virtio.rom.12.04' the first time I did the migration with libvirt; a
symlink seems to have papered over that problem. libvirt is passing
virtio-net-pci.romfile=pxe-virtio.rom.12.04, but nothing provides that
file.

[Bug 1354995] [NEW] package samba-libs (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

2014-08-10 Thread John Broyles
Public bug reported:

I really do not know what program had the problem. I get an error
message when I log into my Ubuntu account. So, I just tried to update
software, as usual, but got a message that it could not do it. So, I do
not know how to solve this problem.

The Software Updater error says,
The Package System is Broken. Check if you are using third party repositories.
 If so disable them since they are a common source of problems. Furthermore
run the following command in a terminal: apt-get install -f.

Then in addition to this there is another pop-up window that says,
Crash Report
The application software updater has closed unexpectedly.
Send an error report to fix this problem
Ignore future problems of this program version.

So, now what should I do?

[Bug 1354995] Re: package samba-libs (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

2014-08-10 Thread John Broyles
I had not used this computer for a long time. The computer has turned
off unexpectedly. I was told that this might be due to overheating.
So, I have not used it for a long time. The software updates were many,
360MB about. So, maybe there are too many updates to install now.

The computer works mostly but can not do certain things. I am using it
to play music now.

[Bug 1314198] Re: [Asus X550LC] Touchpad not Recognized in ubuntu 14.04

2014-08-10 Thread Ben Lansdell
Hi,

I'm experiencing the same issue described by users here -- the trackpad
is not recognized on my ASUS D550MA-DS01.

xinputs --list shows no trackpad, and running synclient returns
'Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded?'. I
resort to using an external USB mouse, and run 'sudo modprobe -r
psmouse' after booting to prevent random/unpredictable input occurring
when I brush against/click the trackpad.

I've tried with a number of linux kernels, Ubuntu releases, and other
distributions.

The fix suggested by Hans (booting the kernel with psmouse.proto=bare)
was successful. Is it helpful for me to file a separate bug report?

Regards,
Ben

Re: [Bug 1354109] Re: Doesn't allow entry of same-sex marriages

2014-08-10 Thread Ross Gammon
On 08/10/2014 12:42 AM, Duncan Lithgow wrote:
 I just check and there's nothing to stop you creating a family in GRAMPS in

 Duncan

Yes - thanks Duncan for mentioning that workaround. For 4.0.4, I found
if I wanted to add an existing person to a family of the wrong gender,
they cannot be added (they do not appear in the list). First you have to
edit the person to be the correct gender for a traditional family to
force them to appear in the list. Then afterwards you can change the
gender back to the real gender.

If you are entering new people into a family, you can easily add the
new person as a male wife, or a female husband.

But then as you say, one of the males will be listed as wife (if it is
an all male couple), and this will be the case in all generated reports.

One of the suggestions in the linked Gramps feature request bug is to
refer to the person as a spouse rather than wife or husband if it
is a same-sex marriage.

Utopic still have that oldish version from 2010 (natty). That package
has been updated recently (git).

@Daniel
please set importance to 'medium' instead of 'wishlist' to grab a better chance
to get an upgrade asap. Having to tweak a wrong system's settings due to that
oldish package is not serious.

[Bug 1189721] Re: Ralink RT3290 needs bluetooth driver

2014-08-10 Thread Høst
Will this be fixed in the 3.16 kernel? It's annoying to have to use Windows to
transfer files via bluetooth. The bluetooth implementation in ubuntu is by far
bether than the one implemented in Windows. Or at least, how can I contact to
the kernel developers, and provide info or test kernels with my hardware? I
would patch the driver by myself, if I'd enough knowledge to do it.
The same with wifi. That driver perfomance is very poor and there are already
an functionally driver that can be included in the kernel.

[Bug 1176577] Re: [HP Compaq dc7700 Small Form Factor PC] mei unexpected reset in kernel 3.8

2014-08-10 Thread Alexander Usyskin
You have to look at exact package version to know if you have new enough kernel.
linux_3.13.0-32.57 kernel is out in -updates repository, so you can simply
update your system to this package version.
The bug manifestation differs depending on kernel version, there are many
iterations in of driver.
Can you post a dmesg from last kernel?

[Bug 1332489] Re: [Dell Inspiron 5547] AMD Radeon R7 M260 [1002:6900] Unable to resume from suspend with fglrx

2014-08-10 Thread Radio
I had the very same probem on a Toshiba Satellite L50-B-166 that has the
same GPU.

I've installed the beta driver as suggested in #3 and the problem seems
to be fixed now (just suspended and resumed successfully).

Note that to install that driver I needed to switch to the AMD adapter
via amdcccle and reboot otherwise the installer believed no supported
GPU were present.

I'd say fixed upstream.

[Bug 1354812] [NEW] Header actions text is cut off

2014-08-10 Thread David Planella
Public bug reported:

See the attached screenshot.

- Expected: actions drop-down expands to fit the contained text. Alternatively,
the documentation warns about a maximum character size. Alternatively, text is
ellipsized.
- Actual: text longer than a given size (which?) is cut off

This will affect translations for system and core apps in particular,
where the English text might fit, but translations that are longer will
be cut off.

It corresponds to header actions for the following code snippet:

head.actions: [
Action {
text: i18n.tr(Settings)
iconName: settings
onTriggered: pageStack.push(settingsPage)
},
Action {
objectName: hidepanelaction
iconName: edit-clear
text: i18n.tr(Hide all key panels)
onTriggered: pgTerm.showExtraPanel(0)
},
Action {
objectName: controlkeysaction
text: i18n.tr(Show control keys panel)
onTriggered: pgTerm.showExtraPanel(1)
},
Action {
objectName: functionkeysaction
text: i18n.tr(Show function keys panel)
onTriggered: pgTerm.showExtraPanel(2)
},
Action {
objectName: textkeysaction
text: i18n.tr(Show arrow keys panel)
onTriggered: pgTerm.showExtraPanel(3)
}
]
}

[Bug 1250488] Re: [Acer Aspire V3-571G] USB hub stopped working on a given USB port (would work on any other port). Reboot fixed the issue

2014-08-10 Thread teo1978
Same shit as usual.
I take my time to report a critical bug, which cripples the OS entirely.
Instead of looking into it, it gets changed to incomplete just because the
original reporter (i.e. me) is not going to undergo the risky procedure of
updating the bios, so the bug expires and get ignored forever.

This way Ubuntu will never become a stable, usable OS.

[Bug 1354811] [NEW] Black squares shown in header actions if no icon set

2014-08-10 Thread David Planella
Public bug reported:

See the attached screenshot.

- Expected: no icon shown for the action if the icon has not been set
- Actual: black square is shown to represent an empty icon

[Bug 1176577] Re: [HP Compaq dc7700 Small Form Factor PC] mei unexpected reset in kernel 3.8

2014-08-10 Thread Alexander Usyskin
[   25.216133] mei_me :00:03.0: timer: connect/disconnect timeout.
[   25.216143] mei_me :00:03.0: unexpected reset: dev_state = ENABLED

Ok, dmesg looks good from mei driver point of view. Do you have network
slowdown (or other problems that manifests with 3.8) with this kernel?
The resetting message as you have in log usually means that is some is wrong
with FW/HW - mei driver not receiving reply in timely manner.

To debug it future, you can enable dynamic debug for mei driver :
echo -n 'module mei +lfp'  /sys/kernel/debug/dynamic_debug/control
echo -n 'module mei_me +lfp'  /sys/kernel/debug/dynamic_debug/control
and wait for next reset

[Bug 1349572] Re: Wireless network disconnections on Dell XPS 13

2014-08-10 Thread Marcel Miguel
I tested 3.16 rc7 with firmware 22.24.8.0, and seems stable, no more reason=4
disconnections for about 5 hours on the computer. Difficult to say but more
stable than with .9 firmware...
Speed seems ok (not tested correctly yet, I only have this computer at home).

Blacklisting does not work on 3.16 kernel, I already blalisted i2c when I
updated to 14.04.
Unfortunately, for these an others problems I need to come back to 3.13. Is it
possible to backport some of the changes of 3.16 so I can test them on 3.13?

2014-08-10 Thread Sam Stoelinga
** Description changed:

  The update-manager tries to update from 12.04 to 12.10 but this seems to
  fail, because it's no longer supported, instead it should update to
  14.04.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Buy a dell laptop with ubuntu 12.04 pre-installed
  2. Run sudo do-release-upgrade or update manager gui

  Current result:

[Bug 1354828] [NEW] When using touchpad Ubuntu freezes

2014-08-10 Thread Imri Paloja
Public bug reported:

First incounter - i was working with firefox(tested later on chrome and
ubuntu in general.), when the system froze.

This is a new laptop - no hardware issues. Also put in a HDD with Win8
on it, tested the touchpad and no freeze. Also under Windows i used
PassMark to stress test it, for about an hour, to see if it would
freeze. No errors. While under Ubuntu the system just hangs everytime i
use the touchpad.

[Bug 1047566] Re: Memory leaks when using NFS

2014-08-10 Thread John Greenhalgh
Has there been any progress on this bug? I'm seeing the same issue as
the first poster, with a very similar setup (thousands of files with
heavy reading - serving php files and static hml/images). The NFS server
is running 12.04.4 LTS with kernel 3.2.0-67-virtual #101-Ubuntu SMP in
EC2. The the SUnreclaim takes 7GB worth of memory in about 1 week.
Slabtop reports increasing idr_layer_cache.

[Bug 1277146] Re: mount -o loop.... changes the udf image

2014-08-10 Thread Volker Siegel
It seems to be not a bug,

according to the answers to that question linked in the previous post.

The iso file is not mounted read only - even if the iso image file may be read
only.
That allows for changes in the metadata of the iso file - even if the files in
the iso filesystem can not be changed.

Adding the mount option ro to explicitly mount read only prevents the
changes of the iso or udf image file, solving the problem:

sudo mount -o ro,loop testimage.iso /mnt

2014-08-10 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New.  Thanks and good luck!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
