[Bug 1292398] Re: multi-monitor : second screen position isn't saved from one session to another

2014-08-13 Thread Thomas W.
Because this seems to be a timing issue, I extend the approach of
HaraldK. The idea is just start the g-s-d a little bit later. Therefore
I create a file /usr/share/upstart/sessions/gnome-settings-
daemon.override which overrides the exec statement:

script
  sleep 2
  exec /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon
end script

This works for me on several setups (with SSD and conventional hard
disks). Adding a somewhat random delay is not really a satisfying
solution. A real Bugfix is still needed!

Other test relying on /etc/xdg/autostart/ completely fail, although the
autostart is basically working and a g-s-d startup file is installed by
default.

[Bug 1356229] [NEW] Asus EeePC 1101HA PowerButton not working

2014-08-13 Thread Gašper Sedej
Public bug reported:

The power button stopped working with Ubuntu 14.04. The main issue is
that it's not possible to wake up laptop from suspend (does not react to
other keys/laptop lid)

I did reaserch - the last working kernel is 3.12.26, from 3.13-rc1 it
does not work anymore. I also tested 3.16 but still does not wokr.

The problem is probably ACPI call which is connected with modules eeepc-laptop
and eeepc-wmi
- eeepc-laptop: older, gets loaded when apci-osi=Linux . Work everything
(except now power button)
- eeepc-wmi: newer, no kernel parameter. Very little works. does not work
wifi hotkey (Fn+F2), and some others. I was not able to use wlan with -wmi
module.

I was suggested to do the bisecting, but I do not have time at the moment
Also the eeepc-laptop module did not change much from 3.12 to 3.13

There is also forum topic about this

[Bug 1353240] Re: [Dell Latitude 6430u] Trackpoint does not work on 12.04.5

2014-08-13 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
14.04 LiveUSB, not working.
12.04.2 (certified), still not working

Even with BIOS upgraded from X28 - A02, it's still not working

I can't recall whether it works or not back on 12.04.2,
we don't have an explicit test case for it at that time.

But I know it's working on 201208-11537, which is unfortunately dead now
With the keyboard module swapped, the Trackpoint on the keyboard from 11537
does not work on 11536, I would say maybe it's a hardware issue. (if it cannot
be reproduced on the same model)

[Bug 1356229] Re: Asus EeePC 1101HA PowerButton not working

Looking at dmesg it seems that eeepc-wmi is complaining and not loading
because acpi_osi=Linux is used. The older module eeepc-laptop is not
loaded. Have you tried:

1. either remove the acpi_osi=Linux from the command line
2. manually sudo modprobe eeepc-laptop otherwise?

[Bug 1351383] Re: system settings are entirely monochrome except for the battery icon

As shown in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SystemSettings#phone, *all* the
System Settings icons should be in color; the grey icons are
placeholders. Keeping them all monochrome would make the dynamic
updating much less effective, and wouldn't work at all for the Cellular
icon when SIM colors are implemented.

[Bug 1273925] Re: usb-creator-gtk fails to finish erasing a usb drive

2014-08-13 Thread Jeff
I'm still having the issue too with usb-creator-gtk 0.2.56.1

Here is a workaround :

1 Open unity dash
2 Search for Disks and open the software
3 Select your usb stick in the peripherals list
4 Click the little gears then select Restaure disk image
5 Restaure Ubuntu iso image onto your stick

And... voilà! Here is your bootable usb stick.

[Bug 1356229] Re: Asus EeePC 1101HA PowerButton not working

2014-08-13 Thread Gašper Sedej
MY MISTAKE! I manually blacklisted eeepc-laptop while testing -wmi
(untill i knew wkat makes acpi-osi)

I tried removing all kernel parameters and load -wmi, but power button
still does not work. Also brightness is not working. (but wlan does work
with -wmi)

NOW i booted with parameters and loaded eeepc-linux module
(unblacklisted).

[Bug 1351415] Re: Have an advanced option when connecting to a wifi network that shows MAC address

2014-08-13 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
** Description changed:

Most of the networks I connect to have MAC filtering enabled. This is a
problem since I cannot check my devices MAC address until after I've
  gone through the setup wizard.

This leads to a chicken and egg situation where:

  - the AP won't allow me to connect the device until I've configured the AP to
allow the new devices MAC address.
  - I cannot establish the devices MAC address until after the setup wizard
(which expects you to join a wifi network) has completed.

-
- A simple solution would be to add a show details checkbox to the wifi setup
wizard that would simply show hardware (MAC) address: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx. That
way, I can add those details to the AP, then come back to the device and supply
the WPA2 password.

+ setup wizard that would simply show hardware (MAC) address:
+ xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx. That way, I can add those details to the AP, then

FWIW, both iOS and Android also get this wrong. So, since we're the new
kid on the block, it would be great if we could get it right! :-)

[Bug 1356244] [NEW] Security issue: Update not possible on encrypted disk after a few months

2014-08-13 Thread netAction
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 14.04 is running on a standard installation with fully encrypted
disk. After a few months the update breaks because of a crowded /boot
partition. As a workaround it would be possible to remove old kernel
images.

This is a heavy security issue as it prevents the whole system from
being updated. Could be reproduced on several systems.

[Bug 1343151] Re: No scan results with BCM43228 on 14.04 LTS

2014-08-13 Thread Marc Rene Schädler
I don't know if this really is a BCM bug or some strange ACPI/IRQ issues of the
Laptop.
With the kernel option pci=noapci it now works for me on the Elitebook 755 (but
now the webcam(usb!) does not work anmore).

[Bug 1216470] Re: ntfs-3g Raring package does not indicate that it provides ntfsprogs

2014-08-13 Thread Dallman Ross
The thread says the fix was released nine months ago. I'm in GNOME
Trusty trying to manipulate an NTFS partition in GParted that is marked
with a problem (altough Windows 8.1 finds no problem), and the bug is
there. The po-up window I see implies I need ntfsprogs, but it is not in
the Trusty sources.

When I try apt-get install ntfsprogs, I get:
Package ntfsprogs is not available, but is referred to by another package.

** Attachment added: Shows pop-up help in GParted referring to ntfsprogs.

[Bug 1318551] Re: Kernel Panic - not syncing: An NMI occurred, please see the Integrated Management Log for details.

2014-08-13 Thread Marco Nenciarini
I have an HP Proliant dl380p gen8 with 256 GB of ram. 14.04 Installation
works, but after the reboot It crashes at almost every boot attempt.

I tried reinstalling it, It started, I upgraded the system to latest
kernel available and after the reboot it doesn't boot again, nor with
the original nor the latest kernel.

Recovery from minima ISO works, but as soon as I boot to the normal
system it crashes.

I've also tried the recovery mode and init=/bin/bash, and both works
until I add some concurrency to the system, then it hangs again.

Attached there is a screenshot of one of the hang during the early boot.

I've already contacted HP and they changed the system main board, we
installed the system again and it is still crashing.

[Bug 1356236] Re: [Samsung NP900X3C-A05DE] iwlwifi 0000:01:00.0: fail to flush all tx fifo queues Q 2 with Centrino Advanced-N 6235 wireless card

2014-08-13 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
cd311, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you
please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the
top of the page (not the daily folder) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream
kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this
bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested exactly
shown as:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.16

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Bug 1353952] Re: [dialer-app] actions disappear from header after phone locks or is locked

2014-08-13 Thread Olga Kemmet
** Description changed:

  build: 176
- phone devices: BQ, Nexus 4

  To reproduce

  1. Open dialer app
  2. Remain on the main keypad screen
  3. Lock phone view hard key button
  4. Unlock the phone via hard key button
  5. Swipe Greeter away

Actual result: icons/actions in the header are not present/disappear
Expected result: icons/actions should remain where they are because there is
no other way to access contacts or system settings from the dialer

If you want to bring back those actions, quit the dialer app and restart
  it again.

I also saw your bug report from when this seemed to occur in Lucid, and tried
your PPA, with no success.

My team member identified some SDL code that may help:
https://github.com/ProfessorKaos64/RetroRig/issues/86

He notes:

Let me know how this works for you! I take for the centering issue
tomorrow, then I'm going to move libmupen64plus2_2.0-4_amd64.deb to our
PPA and have it updated.

Besides what he found, what steps should I take to test your changes
listed by your ppa? Should I add your ppa, then install the main
package?

Thank you for your efforts

** Description changed:

First time using the upgrade tools to move to next LTS release of
Kubuntu. Encountered error message Could not calculate the upgrade.
Once this message occurs, upgrade process ends. Not completely sure
this is a bug, but message treed is pretty non-specific. I have only
stayed with LTS distribution. Have never actually tried pre-release or
  short term release versions.
+
+ I have verified I do not have any non-supported software in place
+ currently on system that is running 12.04 LTS release. I have reviewed
+ the current configuration of software sources in MUOn manager to make
+ sure there isn't something unusual there. I cocnsistently run into the
