[Bug 1358925] [NEW] root alias does not get set

2014-08-19 Thread qman
Public bug reported:

When using dpkg-reconfigure postfix and setting where to send root's
mail, it does not get set.

Steps to reproduce:
 - Install ubuntu 14.04
 - apt-get install postfix
 - dpkg-reconfigure postfix
 - satellite system configuration
 - default mailname
 - configured a valid smtp server on port 587
 - chose a valid internet email address for root's mail
 - defaults for everything else

Result:
Package configures successfully but there is no alias for root.

root@dedge-ns1001:/# cat /etc/aliases
# See man 5 aliases for format
postmaster:root

Expected result:
Package configures successfully and sets root alias.

Encountered on two different servers set up the same way.

[Bug 1358930] [NEW] Text::Wrap dies on '=.'

2014-08-19 Thread Dave Odell
Public bug reported:

Here's a brief test case:
#!/usr/bin/perl
require Text::Wrap;
$Text::Wrap::columns = 2;
print $Text::Wrap::VERSION $Text::Wrap::SUBVERSION\n;
print Text::Wrap::wrap('', '', '=.');

When I run on Trusty, I get:
$ ./wrapper.pl
2012.0818 modern
This shouldn't happen at /usr/share/perl/5.18/Text/Wrap.pm line 84.

FWIW, when I ran the same test program with the latest version of Wrap.pm from
http://api.metacpan.org/source/MUIR/Text-Tabs+Wrap-2013.0523/lib.modern/Text/Wrap.pm,
 it worked a little better:
$ ./wrapper.pl
2013.0523 modern
=
.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the 2013/04/26 version (see
https://metacpan.org/changes/distribution/Text-Tabs+Wrap) fixes this,
though I haven't verified that.

[Bug 1358572] Re: Update to Ecere SDK 0.44.10 (Major milestone, many usability fixes)

2014-08-19 Thread Jerome St-Louis
I upgraded my laptop (amd64) to Utopic, and it builds fine there with
debuild.

Also setup a pbuilder (pbuilder-dist utopic amd64 create) and that builds fine
as well?
Really not sure what's going ?

I used the packages from http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/e
/ecere-sdk/ though rather than applying the .debdiff could that have
something to do with it?

[Bug 1351305] Re: [Toshiba Portege Z35-AST3N01] Touchpad / Trackpoint recognised as generic mouse

2014-08-19 Thread John D Marsden
Summary:

This is fixed in kernel 3.17-rc1.

Detail:

Researching this for my daughter (Ruth Marsden) I've found this issue has been
known on the kernel mailing lists for sometime. See
http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-input/msg29123.html.
The issue relates to touchpad devices using the ALPS v7 protocol. These
devices are reported in this post to have device info as follows:
 Device ID = 0x73, 0x03, 0x0a
 Firmware ID = 0x88, 0xb*, 0x**
Which includes my daughter's Toshiba Z35 which has this Device ID and Firmware
ID = 0x88, 0xb3, 0x22

A kernel patch has been in production over the last few weeks. See
http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-input/msg32703.html and related posts. This
patch was added on 9th August and can be found in the Ubuntu kernel daily
builds from then and the weekly build at
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.17-rc1-utopic/ .
To install this see the Installing upstream kernels section of
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds .

We've tested the 3.17-rc1 kernel on my daughter's Toshiba Z35 laptop and
can confirm that both touchpad and trackpoint devices work. They are
recognised as an AlpsPS/2 ALPS DualPoint TouchPad and the touchpad
section now appears in System Settings Mouse Touchpad. In
particular disabling while typing is available and works.

Presumably a kernel with this patch will be released in Ubuntu in due
course.

[Bug 1358936] [NEW] Garbled Graphics on Intel X4500

2014-08-19 Thread Alexander Lindo
Public bug reported:

I have been having an issue with garbled graphics on an ASUS K50IJ
Laptop with Intel GMA X4500 integrated graphics.

It is a difficult bug to recreate in a timely fashion as it requires you
to be on the system for a decent amount of time (like an hour, sometimes
less). Usage scenario to recreate this bug: would be to gradually build
up to 10 Firefox or Google Chrome tabs. Minimize the applications, Open
a 4000x3000 pixel photo in GIMP, do some editing. After using the
computer for a while, go to the launcher and click Firefox or Chrome.
Close Firefox or Chrome and then close GIMP. Firefox will take a while
to close and while the hard drive is loading, the screen will suddenly
become garbled.

I've been a user of Ubuntu since version 6.06 (Dapper Drake) and have
been using it exclusively on this laptop since version 12.04. I have not
had this issue until 14.04.

The temporary workaround is to log out and log back in, after which the
graphics are back to normal. I also checked to see if it was a memory
issue but System Monitor does not appear to display such an issue.

Regardless, I've never had a cell phone which didn't need to be rebooted

And did those cellphones had a reboot option?

And, how is that reboot option fixing the issue of having to reboot your

[Bug 1358572] Re: Update to Ecere SDK 0.44.10 (Major milestone, many usability fixes)

2014-08-19 Thread Jerome St-Louis
For informational purposes:

These are the rules that should copy over the libEcereAudio:

https://github.com/ecere/ecere-
sdk/blob/ppa/debian/debian/libecereaudio0.install

It should have been installed from obj/linux/lib/ into /usr/lib/x86_64
-linux-gnu/ec/

And it should be built within audio/obj/release/linux/ when it's saying
'Building EcereAudio...'
before being copied over to obj/linux/lib

LIBDIR should have the value of lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ on AMD64...

Not sure if somehow ECERE_AUDIO is not being set to 'y' during install
only? As it seems to be set during the build...

https://github.com/ecere/ecere-sdk/blob/master/Makefile

This is the main Makefile with all the install rules.

TARGET_PLATFORM is set within https://github.com/ecere/ecere-
sdk/blob/master/crossplatform.mk

Also note that this all builds fine on the Launchpad PPA:

https://code.launchpad.net/~ecere-

[Bug 1263540] Re: Apt-get reports NO_PUBKEY gpg error for keys that are present in trusted.gpg.

2014-08-19 Thread Baobab
I encountered the same problem. I solved this by

1) moving all the ppas from the folder /etc/apt/sources.list.d to the
file /etc/apt/sources.list. I did this with the command:

pr -F *files newfilepr -F *files newfile

which combines all the sources.list files into one file. Some adaptation
is needed.

2) removing *all* the files in /etc/apt/trustedgpg.d

then, I could add new keys to the keychain by issuing the “sudo apt-key
adv –keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com –recv-keys **KEY_HERE**” command
(look it up if you don't know it). Before that, it didn’t import the
key. Hope this is helpfull to someone, it was a completely random move
on my part, had no idea if it would work or not. It did :D

[Bug 1358871] Re: USB 3.0 connection is unreliable + xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep

2014-08-19 Thread Zygmunt Krynicki
I've tested 3.17.0-031700rc1-generic #201408161335 -- the particular
xhci endpoint message goes away but 'adb shell' dies instantly when
using 3.0 ports. When I unplug my device I see this error message in
syslog:

Aug 20 00:24:06 silverblade kernel: [ 129.264680] usb 3-3.3: usbfs:
USBDEVFS_CONTROL failed cmd adb rqt 128 rq 6 len 256 ret -71

Using the same 3.0 hub via a 2.0 hub works (as before) without a hitch.
Any direct usage of my 3.0 ports fails

[Bug 815996] Re: Desktop occasionally freezes/locks up when switching workspaces

2014-08-19 Thread Michi Henning
I'm seeing this too on Utopic quite regularly. For me, it happens when I
use the icon in the task switcher to get an overview of the four
workspaces. When things freeze, I see the four workspaces filling the
screen, with the shrunk windows in each workspace, and no more response
at that point. Sometimes, hitting Super-S gets things back, other times
it doesn't.

[Bug 1269017] Re: Emojis not fully supported which results in blank received SMS messages

2014-08-19 Thread Alberto Salvia Novella
Please, include Unicode emoticons and pictographs in the default Ubuntu
installation; as they:

   - Allow visual representation in plain text, which saves having to
use complex formatting in messages for this and warranties cross
compatibility with Android and Apple devices for messaging.

   - Saves a huge amount of time when editing documents where you want
to have icons, as these are diverse and visual coherent with each other.
You don't need to look for icon-sets that fits you purpose, and can be
used everywhere you wish.

Tables are here:

   - Emoticons: http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U1F600.pdf

   - Miscellaneous Symbols And Pictographs

[Bug 1358949] [NEW] arm64 iperf performance suboptimal

2014-08-19 Thread dann frazier
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
The copy_{to,from}_user implementations in the Ubuntu kernel are suboptimal.
Optimized implementations have been submitted upstream and have shown a
significant improvement in network performance.

Iperf performance increase:
-l (size) 1 core result
Optimized 64B 44-51Mb/s
1500B 4.9Gb/s
3B 16.2Gb/s
Original64B 34-50.7Mb/s
1500B 4.7Gb/s
3B 14.5Gb/s

[Test Case]
Generate traffic from one node to another using iperf (see above for config).

[Regression Risk]
These functions are obviously used heavily throughout the kernel, so a defect
here could have significant impact. This risk is mitigated by using an
implementation heavily based on the linaro string libraries (which are used in
other places already, e.g. glibc), and through active testing of this patch on
real hardware using a trusty-kernel base.

[Bug 1296114] Re: Bluetooth is always enabled after reboot even if it was disabled

2014-08-19 Thread Tony Espy
Just tried this on a recent image ( #183 ) on mako, and I can reproduce
it.

It looks like the bluetooth indicator doesn't talk to urfkill directly.
When I disable BT via the indicator, the rfkill state is indeed toggled,
as if I run 'rfkill list', it shows as soft-blocked.
