Re: [Bug 1292234] Re: qcow2 image corruption in trusty (qemu 1.7 and 2.0 candidate)
Hi Jamie, just to make sure, did you permanently disable ksm? Does cat /sys/kernel/mm/ksm/run still show 0? I've so far never seen a case where a reboot did not fix the issue, nor have I seen an issue (other than suspending the host sometimes causing the VM to hang so that I have to destroy it) with ksm disabled. I had hoped to do some large parallel upgrade tests this week, but network at linuxcon is not up to the task (even with apt-cacher-ng!) [Bug 1359938] [NEW] [FFE] request to update juju-quickstart to support JUJU env var
Public bug reported: We'd like to complete updating juju-quickstart to support a $JUJU env variable to help enable and aid CI and testing. This would allow the user to specify which Juju client to use which would open the doors to testing quickstart on one system against several versions of Juju. This does not require any changes to dependencies or functionality. The list of changes suggested include: - If $JUJU is set, use that for bootstrap on all systems that do not require juju-quickstart to be run with sudo (due to old LXC requirements) - If $JUJU is set and we are on an older LXC requiring sudo we output a warning and refuse to run against the $JUJU specified in the env variable. [Bug 1359946] [NEW] smbd spawns hundreds/thousands of processes

[Bug 1359944] [NEW] [FFE] Update juju-quickstart to support MAAS as a configurable provider
Public bug reported: We have the goal this cycle of updating juju-quickstart to be able to build the environments.yaml block for MAAS as it can for local, ec2, hpcloud, etc. This work is not yet complete, but we'd like to request an exception to get it in. There is little risk that adding another provider will create issues for juju-quickstart users. We already support five providers and so this new one should not require any deep changes to the way quickstart operates. The changes required are - The first time you launch quickstart you'd see a new item in the new provider list, MAAS. - Selecting that needs to populate a form UI for entering all the provider specific information required by MAAS. - Saving that form updates your environments.yaml with the new provider block as it does for the others. - We do not currently believe that adding this provider will require fundamental changes in the way juju-quickstart works once the provider is available. We'll be looking to complete this work before the end of September and have the final juju-quickstart release ready one month before the release of Utopic. ** Affects: juju-quickstart (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to juju-quickstart in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1359944 Title: [FFE] Update juju-quickstart to support MAAS as a configurable provider To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/juju-quickstart/+bug/1359944/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1357471] Re: Samba4 AD DC randomly dies, error: Did not manage to negotiate mandetory feature SIGN for dcerpc auth_level 6.
Guys, It is impossible to use Samba 4.1.6 from Ubuntu 14.04.1 as an AD DC in production. This is happening all the time: http://i.imgur.com/wDqOsy6.png I think that if you restart any Domain Controller, it will trigger this error on others DCs. Because I just restart my PDC (ubuntu-ad-1) and all BDCs dies. I just build an Ubuntu PPA Archive to provide Samba 4.1.11 for Trusty: http://launchpad.net/~martinx/+archive/ubuntu/ig - I'll test it today. Ubuntu needs a much, far much more serious Q.A. [Bug 1359946] Re: smbd spawns hundreds/thousands of processes
I think the recent change that caused this problem was where I told my router (a WRT54GL running Tomato) to start writing logfiles to a Samba share. greyhole --logs reported that the logfile was being held open. I turned off logging, rebooted the router, stopped Samba, made sure all its processes were dead (and that lsof no longer reported the logfile as being held open), and restarted Samba. Where the smbd process count would've previously gone up at a steady pace with many of them trying to take 100% CPU, the process count is now staying relatively low (about equal to the number of shares it's serving up) and the load average is staying low (currently 0.00). So now we know what's causing the problem and how to keep it from happening, but why is it a problem? Files held open by clients shouldn't cause this problem. Transmission, for instance, can keep downloaded files open for days or weeks at a time, but this only became a problem when I told my router to start writing logfiles. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1359946 Title: smbd spawns hundreds/thousands of processes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1359946/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1358405] Re: cannot execute binary /usr/bin/kvm-img: No such file or directory
libvirt searches at startup for one of the kvm-img and qemu-img commands. If the kvm-img command goes away while libvirt is running, then it continues to try to use kvm-img, and this error occurs. Restarting libvirt is therefore a workaround. The kvm-img command has not existed since early in the trusty cycle. On a precise-to-trusty upgrade, libvirt will be restarted (preventing this error from being seen). The reason you saw it was that yo uupgraded from the saucy version, which is no longer spuported. I'll therefore mark this bug invalid. We could otherwise handle it by having qemu updates always cause a libvirt restart, but i don't believe that's warranted. ** Changed in: libvirt (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libvirt in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1358405 Title: cannot execute binary /usr/bin/kvm-img: No such file or directory To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1358405/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1243642] Re: .Xmodmap not automatically loaded on start
If you force the load of the .Xmodmap by adding the command 'xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap' in the Startup Applications, all is reverted if you suspend/resume or if you change the user and get back etc. So I managed to adapt some snippets I found, using the python dbus interface to reissue the command when resuming, changing the keyboard layout or changing sessions. It can be saved as /usr/local/bin/user-xmodmap- reload-hack (or other path/name) and then added to the Startup Applications. I didn't test it very much and I don't have much code experience, so you are welcome to modify. ** Attachment added: user-xmodmap-reload-hack https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1243642/+attachment/4183061/+files/user-xmodmap-reload-hack -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1243642 Title: .Xmodmap not automatically loaded on start To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1243642/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The problem is not that Thunar is not showing files, the problem is that it is not hiding them. There are two ways to tell the major file managers (Nautilus, Konqueror, Dolphin) to hide files - prefix their filename with a fullstop, ie, '.foo.sh', or leave the filename as is 'foo.sh' and add that to a list contained in the file '.hidden' The first method works with Thunar, the second does not. When Thunar opens a directory, it'll have to open the .hidden file for each and every file in the dir, read it in, parse it, and decide. Even if there's no .hidden file, you incur an extra stat() call for each and every file in a directory when enumerating the files in it. Better would be to cache the contents of .hidden the first time it's opened (perhaps in a GHashTable or GTree for fast lookups, though a GSList might be ok since in a real-world scenario, I wouldn't expect there to be more than a few files listed in .hidden), and kill the cache when the user leaves the directory (or maybe X seconds after the user leaves, in case they come back soon). If there isn't a .hidden file, should cache that fact and not stat() for every file in the dir. Also might want to consider on-the-fly updating. Thunar already monitors the currently-opened directory for changes so it can update the listing in real time. If .hidden changes, should invalidate the cache, reread it, and hide any files in the directory that now match. This is of course much more complex than your patch... personally I wouldn't be happy with it as-is; I imagine Benny's standards are higher than mine :-/ . About the patch itself: 1. Don't declare variables ('hidden_file' in your case) in the middle of functions. gcc 3+ handles this fine, but other compilers may not. 2. Is there a particular reason you're duping the strings for 'basename' and 'parent'? You don't need to keep them around past function invocation, and you don't modify them. 3. You leak 'basename' -- you g_strdup() a string at the top and store it in 'basename', and then g_strconcat() another string inside the if() block and store it in 'basename' without ever g_free()ing the original. Note that g_strconcat() also allocs memory. 4. g_file_get_contents() wastes memory, and, depending on the size of .hidden, is slower than just fopen()ing the file, and using fgets() to get

[Bug 1359382] [NEW] colord rejects printer .ICC color profile
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hi, At work I have access to an expensive professional photo spectrometer to calibrate input and output devices in terms of color, Gretag Macbeth (now X-Rite) Spectrolino and Spectroscan, and i1 (Eye One). I have profiled my monitors (currently either Dell P2210 or Samsung SyncMaster 950p+) with them, and the monitor .ICC works perfectly well not only under Windows, but also under Linux Mint 16 Petra 64 Bit (all updates are installed). But not so the printer profile. No matter whether I try to import the ICC for the printer (trusty old HP Laserjet 4P) that I have created from a print under Linux or the one I have created from a print under Windows, colord rejects them with the cryptic error message invalid UTF-8. This happens when I start color over the settings dialog panel. When I try to import the ICC with right click on the file and select import with ICC profile installation a couple of seconds nothing happens, then I get the even stranger error message File could not be imported / The profile was not added in time. Again, gthe .ICC itself is pefectly sane and works flawlessly under Windows 7 and 8.1. I created it with the professional software Profile Maker 5 from Gretag Macbeth. Thanks for your help. [Bug 1359191] Re: Needs new language packs for projects that enabled langpack translations
I now created a script to fetch translations from the touch trunks and update the langpacks with them (http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu- langpack/langpack-o-matic/main/revision/487). [Bug 1347539] Re: Abnormally high battery discharge rate on Lenovo T420
I managed to install and run the mainline kernel (3.17). With it the battery discharge rate is dramatically down, about half of what it is with kernel 3.13 (~ 15W), but still above what it was with Ubuntu 12.04.
