[Bug 1365250] Re: nova-compute memory leak

2014-09-11 Thread Takashi Aosawa
At least python-libvirt, which nova-compute uses, seems to leak memory
when handling XML data. Find the file d.py attached which reproduces a
similar problem.

ii  python-libvirt  1.2.2-0ubuntu1 amd64  libvirt Python
bindings

valgrind can detect definitely lost.

[Bug 1257082] Re: MAAS does not use NTP servers specified in DHCPD options

2014-09-11 Thread Jorge Niedbalski
Hello,

Since there is no consensus on the definitive solution , I am proposing
a simple fix for prefers dhcp provided NTP servers if one is found as
also @elmo pointed here.

Please review the test-case and description for further details.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

  MAAS-deployed systems *that do not have persistent RTCs* (unusual) have
  difficulty with time and authentication, generally making these nodes
  unusable.

  [Workaround]

  See comment #8.

  [Original Description]

  I have tried setting up NTP servers as DHCP options to MAAS nodes
  because I am behind a proxy here at work that cannot contact
  ntp.ubuntu.com. Here is the top of the dhcpd.conf file on on my MAAS
  head node, maas01:

  root@maas01:/etc/dhcp# less dhcpd.conf
  default-lease-time 600;
  max-lease-time 7200;

  subnet 192.168.0.0 netmask 255.255.0.0 {
    option domain-name mgmt;
    option domain-name-servers 192.168.255.254;
    option routers 192.168.255.254;

    pool {
  range 192.168.0.1 192.168.255.253;
  deny unknown-clients;
    }
  }

  subnet 10.255.0.0 netmask 255.255.0.0 {
    option domain-name maas;
    option domain-name-servers 10.255.0.1;
    option routers 10.255.0.1;
    option ntp-servers 172.31.22.1, 172.31.23.1, 172.31.20.104;
    next-server 10.255.0.1;

    pool {
  range 10.255.1.0 10.255.255.254;
  deny unknown-clients;
    }
  }

  I have also verified the parameter is being sent to a client’s DHCP
  lease:

  ubuntu@sled204n0:/var$ cat /var/lib/dhcp/dhclient.eth0.leases
  lease {
    interface eth0;
    fixed-address 10.255.4.44;
    option subnet-mask 255.255.0.0;
    option routers 10.255.0.1;
    option dhcp-lease-time 600;
    option dhcp-message-type 5;
    option domain-name-servers 10.255.0.1;
    option dhcp-server-identifier 10.255.0.1;
    option ntp-servers 172.31.22.1,172.31.23.1,172.31.20.104;
    option domain-name maas;
    renew 4 2000/01/06 19:40:51;
    rebind 4 2000/01/06 19:40:51;
    expire 4 2000/01/06 19:40:51;
  }

  Even so, the date on the target node is still incorrect.

  ubuntu@sled204n0:/etc$ date
  Thu Jan  6 19:52:29 UTC 2000

  The ntpdate defaults are the following (unchanged from MAAS defaults):

  ubuntu@sled204n0:/etc$ cat /etc/default/ntpdate
  # The settings in this file are used by the program ntpdate-debian, but not
  # by the upstream program ntpdate.

  # Set to yes to take the server list from /etc/ntp.conf, from package ntp,
  # so you only have to keep it in one place.
  NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF=yes

  # List of NTP servers to use (Separate multiple servers with spaces.)
  # Not used if NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF is yes.
  NTPSERVERS=ntp.ubuntu.com

  # Additional options to pass to ntpdate
  NTPOPTIONS=

  And the DHCP generated NTP server file is correct:

  ubuntu@sled204n0:/etc$ cat /var/lib/ntpdate/default.dhcp
  # NTP server entries received from DHCP server
  NTPSERVERS='172.31.22.1 172.31.23.1 172.31.20.104'

  The culprit seems to be in how ntpdate-debian is programmed. the logic
  ignores /var/lib/ntpdate/default.dhcp if /etc/default/ntpdate sets
  NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF=yes (the default).

  After examining the script further my recommendation would be for the
  /etc/dhcp/dhclient-exit-hooks.d/ntpdate to create the file
  /var/lib/ntp/ntp.conf.dhcp. By doing so ntpdate-debian will work
  transparently with /etc/defaults/ntpdate and NTP servers advertised by
  DHCPD.

Updated to Ubuntu 14.04 today. Installation baulked. Error ambiguous but
suggested it might be a 3rd party repository but none were enabled.

Alternatively it suggested that I run sudo apt install -f in terminal.

[Bug 1368307] [NEW] maas profile nodes acquire system_id=system_id acquires a random node

2014-09-11 Thread Brad Figg
Public bug reported:

I'm using the command 'maas maas nodes acquire system_id=node-
b0685f4e-3843-11e4-922e-00163e6ffb81' and maas is acquiring a random
node. The problem is that system_id is not a valid parameter to the
nodes acquire command.

1. If an invalid parameter is given then it should return an error and not
acquire a random node.
2. I think that system_is should be a valid parameter.

[Bug 1257082] Re: MAAS does not use NTP servers specified in DHCPD options

2014-09-11 Thread Robie Basak
One catch with my approach is that setting NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF=yes
might mean use /var/lib/ntp/ntp.conf.dhcp, and that would break. But
maybe this file won't exist or is not useful if /etc/ntp.conf doesn't
exist?

[Bug 1257082] Re: MAAS does not use NTP servers specified in DHCPD options

2014-09-11 Thread Robie Basak
Thanks Jorge.

The way I imagined a fix going that might also be acceptable to Debian
would be to treat NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF as no if ntp.conf doesn't exist,
even if it says yes. Would this work for you?

Then I imagine addition of something like (untested):

if [ ! -f /etc/ntp.conf ]; then
NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF=no
fi

and then no other changes. I think this would cause the DHCP setting to
be used in our failure case, and it shouldn't cause unexpected an
behaviour change since it doesn't make sense to request to use ntp.conf
if it doesn't exist.

How does this sound to you? I'm not saying it's definitely the right
way. I'm just not sure, so I'd like to propose it as an alternative.

What I think we're missing is a list of use cases, and without that I
don't think it's possible to definitely state the right thing to do. I'm
just trying to think of the most unobtrusive fix that would be
acceptable to all and that minimises the risk of breaking some unknown
use case.

Debian did say that they'd consider patches, so I think we should
definitely first try to get their review (if that doesn't take too long)
to avoid sending Ubuntu down a path that diverges from Debian.

[Bug 1257082] Re: MAAS does not use NTP servers specified in DHCPD options

2014-09-11 Thread Robie Basak
Oh, one more thing. I get the impression the failure you're
experiencing, which is the case that you do have a working RTC, is a
slightly different issue with the same symptom. curtin should set the
RTC, and so on boot into the installed system you should already have a
good enough clock. I think this would be a separate bug in curtin to set
the RTC, and then this fix would only really be a workaround for you.

If I'm right about this, then using d-i rather than fast path should
work in your case (I'm not sure if that's acceptable to you as a
workaround or not though).

else should try to test and maybe post a comment on bugs.samba.org.

[Bug 1324174] Re: qemu should attempt to re-load kvm_intel to enable nesting at first install

2014-09-11 Thread Chris J Arges
Hello Serge, or anyone else affected,

Accepted qemu into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu/2.0.0+dfsg-
2ubuntu1.4 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1368439] [NEW] Random high latency with KSM enabled and multiple CPU sockets

2014-09-11 Thread Lawrence Dudley
Public bug reported:

If running a box with multiple CPU sockets and Ubuntu 14.04 Server
64-bit qemu-kvm with KSM enabled as by default, random high latency
occurs on network connections for VMs, as high as 4000ms - 5000ms. The
host also reports high IO wait times.

Disabling KSM fixed this for me.

I run the same setup on boxes with only 1 CPU socket and it's not an
issue.

[Bug 1274527] Re: MAAS doesn't put its DNS server in resolv.conf

2014-09-11 Thread Jeff Lane
Hrmmm... it just bit me while trying to test out the checkbox charm on
bare metal from my private maas server. and it's not just a matter of
juju.

for example, MAAS is successfully updating the zone files:

npdxh IN CNAME 10-0-0-123

and I can't ssh to my node by hostname:
ubuntu@critical-maas:/etc/bind/maas$ ssh npdxh
ssh: Could not resolve hostname npdxh: Name or service not known

so I have to know the IP address.

The NODE, does at least resolve DNS on the MAAS network properly:
ubuntu@npdxh:~$ host npdxh
npdxh.master is an alias for 10-0-0-123.master.
10-0-0-123.master has address 10.0.0.123

And I'm sure we all already know that much.

IN any case, this is an annoyance, it's fixable, but really, the MAAS
region controller (and cluster in this case since they're all one system
for me) should be able to resolve its own DNS entries.

From a more important use case, for certification purposes, if I am
going to get testers to use juju and the checkbox charms for testing, I
can not also require them to provide separate systems to serve as region
or cluster or juju systems just for DNS resolution to work. Nor does it
look good to tell engineers at partner sites to manually work around
this.

[Bug 1274527] Re: MAAS doesn't put its DNS server in resolv.conf

2014-09-11 Thread Julian Edwards
Bear in mind that there is no region controller as a single entity, it
is comprised of many discrete components. So far people have been
installing them all in the same place using the convenience of the
maas meta package, so if installing that package it could update
resolv.conf as well, but in other cases it's not a simple case of doing
that.

[Bug 1365855] Re: 100% cpu in Xorg when xorg is started via lightdm

2014-09-11 Thread Michael Vogt
I installed unity8-destktop-session-x11 to test click on the desktop but
I did not change any config (to my knowledge :) except for installing
this package. I actually thought I had unity8-desktop-session-mir
installed, but it seems that during testing I moved to the other one.
And indeed, when I remove unity8-desktop-session-x11 the 100% CPU
problem goes away.

Here is the output of lightdm --show-config with the unity8-desktop-session-x11
package installed:

   [SeatDefaults]
A  type=unity;xlocal
A  unity-compositor-command=unity-system-compositor.sleep
J  user-session=ubuntu
C  greeter-wrapper=/usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm-greeter-session
E  guest-wrapper=/usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm-guest-session
H  greeter-session=lightdm-gtk-greeter
G  xserver-command=X -core

   [LightDM]
J  session-wrapper=/etc/lightdm/Xsession
J  minimum-vt=7
J  seats=seat-0

   [GuestAccount]
J  enabled=true
J  username=guest
J  setup-script=/usr/share/lightdm/guest-session/guest-session-setup.sh
J  cleanup-script=/usr/share/lightdm/guest-session/guest-session-cleanup.sh

Sources:
A  /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/10-unity-system-compositor.conf
(null)  mand.conf
C  /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-greeter-wrapper.conf
E  /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-guest-wrapper.conf
E  /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-guest-wrapper.conf
(null)  mand.conf
G  /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-xserver-command.conf
H  /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/60-lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf
[Invalid UTF-8] (null)  \xe8\x87\xa9\xc8@\x7f
J  /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

I see the 100% CPU with different environments like mate too, but lightdm is
using the same commandline for X, i.e. its running with -mir -mirSocket when
the u-d-s-x11 package is installed.

Feel free to reassign to Xmir.

[Bug 1355776] Re: WiFi shown as enabled in indicator while disabled in status bar

2014-09-11 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
First of all, my assumption here was that no WiFi icon would be shown on
the display if WiFi was disabled, and that an icon with empty beam
would be shown if WiFi was enabled but we where not connected to any.

If that is not the case, and the same icon is used in both cases, we
would need to rethink that, as the user should have feedback on which is
the current WiFi status.

Second, I also see issues like the one in indic_wifi_wrong.png (just
attached now): in this case, I disabled WiFi, and icons on the status
bar were not right, but the WiFi switch was wrong. ifconfig showed that
wlan0 was down.

Ok, I have re-read this and the only problem in the original screenshot
was the lack of networks, which *is* a bug. Also, the issue with just
reported in comment #7 is a bug. @Antti, could you comment on this?

[Bug 1349273] Re: NM does not retry opening mobile data on reboot

2014-09-11 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
My guess here is that what I saw was an instance of the generic problem
that NM seems to have some times creating connections, which is probably
related to not detecting the creation of the ofono's ConnectionManager
interface.

As I usually have two SIMs around, this is maybe easier for me to
reproduce.

[Bug 1260825] Re: 168c:0032 ath3k built-in bluetooth cannot load firmware - sporadic

2014-09-11 Thread Fuujuhi
Hi Christopher,

Thanks for your reply, and trying to enlight me . I read the link you give,
but still I don't see the logic.
Say that I'd have some time to look further in this bug, and trying different
things. It is very difficult for me then to find reports with bug similar to
mine. I see no relevant metadata in launchpad.

For instance:

- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1351882

This one is very similar, same laptop, same hardware but strangely the USB
device id are slightly different (IMC networks).
So not 100% duplicate, but clearly very related. We don't see this in launchpad.

- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1349752

Similar bug, similar hardware but different vendor. Maybe same bug.
Maybe not duplicate, but clearly related. In any case, we don't see that
in launchpad.

- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1277528

The report alperyilmaz. There was an interesting comment from Max Schwarz
(xqms), and a possible user space fix.
Since it is a different report, I did not see it. In the meantime, the bug is
flagged as expired, so it does not even appear if you do a basic launchpad
search.

Also, why not announce here people created a new bug report?
I personally would like to know it, so that at least I have a chance to
register myself to them.
