[Bug 1369224] [NEW] rsync preserve permission does not work
Public bug reported: Hi, I am a regular user of rsync on various systems, giving parameters '-prH' or '-prHl' to shift data over to other locations while retaining correct permissions. Today (Ubuntu 14.04.1 64 bits, rsync 3.1.0) I descovered the '-p' parameter is not working. As root I'm copying the contents of the home directory to a new location, but the owner/group is set as root.root, not the intended user. This is incorrect operation, and can be problematic for people who automatically schedule rsync operations. I can work around this (using tar and untar), but that is not as cool/simple/efficient as using rsync. Greetings, Gerben ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: rsync 3.1.0-2ubuntu0.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-35.62-generic 3.13.11.6 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-35-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.4 Architecture: amd64 Date: Sun Sep 14 09:30:16 2014 InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-04-21 (146 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-Server 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr - Release amd64 (20140416.2) ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_US:en TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: rsync UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) mtime.conffile..etc.default.rsync: 2014-04-21T09:49:59 ** Affects: rsync (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug trusty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to rsync in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1369224 Title: rsync preserve permission does not work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rsync/+bug/1369224/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1369222] [NEW] xorg random crash
Public bug reported: I was just watching a youtube video fullscreen in Google Chrome. I exited fullscreen with the Esc key: starting from that moment, the whole Google Chrome window's content was replaced by a frozen frame of the video (I could still hear the audio streaming). [Bug 1369223] [NEW] Crash report doesn't give return a link to the report sent, nor give any feedback of success/failure
Public bug reported: Not sure Apport is the correct package. When something crashes, e.g. Xorg, a popup appears informing of that and offering the possibility to report the error. However, the issue is that: 1 - it does not give you the slightest feedback of whether the error was reported succesfully. Immediately after clicking on Report, the window closes and syou see nothing else (or you see the reporting questions, such as that below, but never any progress information about the reporting process). 2 - it doesn't provide a link to any publicly accessible information about the reported error. I don't know if such public information is available, if it is not then it should. I don't know if a bug is opened in Launchpad or any other public bugtracker. If it is not then it should. Actually it should definitely offer the possibility to login on Launchpad and file a launchpad bug report (in addition to whatever it already does) if one has an account. 3 - It even goes to the extreme point of nonsense that, if the crash is in Xorg, it asks you the usual question that ubuntu-bug would ask: whether you are willing to do additional debugging work if asked by the developers. Well, suppose I say Yes: how the hell are developers supposed to contact me?? I don't think my email is stored anywhere in the system, so unless it opens a browser and gives me an opportunity to log in on Launchpad how does it know? [Bug 1339706] Re: Unable to connect to flicker since their API change to https
I am observing similar behaviour and although I can upload through a browser I find the command line option far more palatable. The behavior I am observing is as follows: flickr_upload --progress --title=test IMG_8681.JPG IMG_8681.JPG: 100% []D 0h00m27s This suggests to me that a connection is working. Perhaps the authentication keys need regenerated. When I tried this the URL redirected to came back with an error saying Oops! Flickr can't find a valid callback URL. This suggests that the authorisation part of flickr_upload also needs overhaul.
[Bug 730984] Re: Kubuntu - Mount SAMBA shares when Dolphin access them via CIFS
Let me share some thoughts about this topic. @#9 Jamie Carl (jazz-funkynerd) KDE use KIO-Slaves to access other then local protocol and/or meta- protocols across all platforms. It is monumentally clever idea. However it is not new idea. Microsoft uses the same technique. Just call it UNC or so. Remember \\SERVER\SHARENAME .. Looking to the Windows world, the application wanting to use network share has two choices. Use the UNC API of Windows or use traditional DOS API accessing filesystem (yes, the C:\DIRECTORY\TRACK02.mp3 ..). Of course the use has to map network drive (linux users should read: mount cifs share). @#11 Jim Buddin (jimbuddin): So now those who argued KDE should do it instead of 1+ apps should bother with KIO-Slaves. Rethink that idea.. . Libre/Open Office while running Windows also use \\ to access network shares.. Of course, there is another proposed solution: Give user the choice! Mount or use KIO-Slave... But, as there is almost always but. Have you worked with KDE using mounted CIFS shares when the network disconects... . In most cases (at least in my most cases) the whole KDE hangs and waits for timeouts. Yes there must be something monumentally wrong in it, but as this is with us for years, I believe it is hard to solve it. And back to the idea of user choice mount or kio-slave. This is not hard task. It could be done by script and/or KDE services, doesn't it? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/730984 Title: Kubuntu - Mount SAMBA shares when Dolphin access them via CIFS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kubuntu-kde4-meta/+bug/730984/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 730984] Re: Kubuntu - Mount SAMBA shares when Dolphin access them via CIFS
Anyway I feel the frustration too. At these days I discovered that VLC (originally platform independed) music player supports smb:// access better then Amarok (originally aimed to be the gratest KDE media/music player). And more then this, they believe (at least Matěj Laitl https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=273881) that the poor support for KIO-Slaves (smb:// ..) is good by design for the main KDE media player.. [Bug 1287827] Re: wifi not configurable in network-manager showing disabled by hardware switch
I'm a long time Ubuntu user, but still quite new to Launchpad, so please excuse my ignorance. I'm wondering how issues like this one are usually resolved. This appears to me to be a rather serious issue. It involves a popular Lenovo notebook, the most recent Ubuntu, and an essential piece of hardware. A solution appears to be available (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux- Discussion/Yoga-2-13-not-Pro-Linux-Warning/m-p/1517612#M5933), but it involves compiling a kernel module. [Bug 671789] Re: Shotwell rotates images incorrectly
Shotwell 0.14.1 here. Steps to (re)produce the bug: 1) import images without copying - thumbnails and images are displayed correctly, as per the orientation tag 2) double click on a vertical (i.e. taken in portrait mode) photo 3) right click - open with external editor (gimp) 4) gimp asks if I want to rotate or not - yes, rotate 5) modify image, then save 6) shotwell starts eating 100% cpu and eventually crashes; when re-launched, the image is distorted (see screenshot) issue 6) happens about 80% of the time. For the record: photos were taken with a Canon 60D camera, and are located on an external ext4-foramtted USB hard drive. ** Attachment added: Distorted image as shown by shotwell after being edited with Gimp. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/+bug/671789/+attachment/4203551/+files/screenshot.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/671789 Title: Shotwell rotates images incorrectly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/+bug/671789/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Marcello, This sounds very similar a bug that was fixed some time ago (I can't find the bug report now). [Bug 1369243] [NEW] Confusing log message in remove_all_inc_of_but_n_full mode
Public bug reported: I've just spent an hour trying to understand why duplicity was not deleting certain backup chains in remove_all_inc_of_but_n_full mode, despite say it was. On every run, with the same parameters, it would spit out: Last full backup date: Tue Sep 9 16:47:20 2014 Deleting backup chains at times: Tue Jul 29 05:40:01 2014 Wed Aug 6 05:40:01 2014 Deleting incremental signature chain Wed Aug 6 05:40:01 2014 Deleting incremental signature chain Wed Aug 6 05:40:01 2014 Deleting incremental signature chain Tue Jul 29 05:40:01 2014 Deleting incremental signature chain Tue Jul 29 05:40:01 2014 Deleting incremental backup chain Wed Aug 6 05:40:01 2014 Deleting incremental backup chain Tue Jul 29 05:40:01 2014 It turns out that those are full backups, and that duplicity _would_ have deleted any incremental chains attached to them (and probably has on some previous run.) I frequently run into this problem whenever I want to rename a bookmark into name@server. As soon as I type the @ symbol on a German keyboard, that is pressing AltGr + Q, the focus gets lost and the renaming stops. [Bug 463078] Re: Dia export to Cairo PNG causes mangled text fonts
Christopher, The bug report is about exporting to PNG (see title), so saying Won't fix because export to SVG is deprecated seems odd. The only reason SVG got mentioned in this bug report is because it appears to be the only format that *isn't* broken. Can confirm that PNG PDF are both broken here, and SVG export works fine (even if it is deprecated). [Bug 1369250] Re: Blackscreen; lightdm not starting up after update
Some notes: 1) The contents of /var/log/lightdm.log aren't being touched - so perhaps it's not getting that far? 2) Hmm /var/log/upstart/lightdm.log root@davros:/var/log/upstart# more lightdm.log /proc/self/fd/9: 24: exec: lightdm: not found /proc/self/fd/9: 24: exec: lightdm: not found /proc/self/fd/9: 24: exec: lightdm: not found /proc/self/fd/9: 24: exec: lightdm: not found /proc/self/fd/9: 24: exec: lightdm: not found /proc/self/fd/9: 24: exec: lightdm: not found /proc/self/fd/9: 24: exec: lightdm: not found /proc/self/fd/9: 24: exec: lightdm: not found /proc/self/fd/9: 24: exec: lightdm: not found hmm; it looks like the lightdm packages got uninstalled (I did do an autoremove after the update so I suspect a dependency has gone); but given that log it looks like something was still trying to start lightdm and it hadn't updated to select a new dm. So that's still a bug - but not sure where; removing lightdm shouldn't try and start it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1369250 Title: Blackscreen; lightdm not starting up after update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/1369250/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1289977] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 Update breaks grub, resulting in error: symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not found
I run the release upgrade from a completely up-to-date 12.04 from the Update Manager and it completed without problem. After the upgrade had finished I performed the restart and faced the grub rescue prompt and got puzzled understandably. Then I searched and found this bug and figured out that the error might be related to the boot order. I have 2 HDDs in the box - one IDE and one SATA -, with a single Xubuntu installation. The BIOS was set to boot from the IDE HDD, the OS resides on that. In the BIOS boot order I moved the SATA HDD before the IDE HDD and after a reboot 14.04 booted like a charm. Thought I share my experience, since I didn't see this solution here above. [Bug 1346269] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 won't shut down (reboots)
Adding to my report in #4, I discovered that the shutdown behaviour of my computer changed by replacing the open source X.orgX graphics driver (xserver-xorg-video-ati) by the nonfree driver called Video driver for the AMD graphics accelerator of fglrx-updates. The other non free driver (without the addition updates did not change things. Now the system doesn't reboot after shutdown, but the shutdown halts halfway, I guess after the hard disk stops rotating (noise stops), but the cooling ventilators still run. The graphics card is embedded in the AMD-processor, and is called AMD/ATI: Richland [ Radeon HD 8570D] This is an improvement, but it is still not how things should be, of course, but might indicate where to seek.
