[Bug 1304246] [NEW] Reboot hangs with Dell computers on 64 bits
You have been subscribed to a public bug: On xubuntu 12.04.3 64 bits, with Dell computer (7010 and some other optiplex), reboot hangs and display terminal : acpid exiting running unnatend : ... I had same problem on 32 bits 12.04, but solved by adding acpi=force reboot=pci in /etc/default/grub Here, on 64 bits, tried that and didn't work. You have been subscribed to a public bug: I'm using Ubuntu 14.10 dev with ifupdown 0.7.48.1ubuntu4 and upstart 1.13.1-0ubuntu3 and currently it is possible to remove ifupdown and upstart as they are not essential packages or any essential/manual package does depend on them. [Bug 1357713] Re: ifupdown and upstart can be removed
ubuntu-minimal depends on upstart and ifupdown, so supposedly you removed that. This is really not a supported configuration. As for upstart: Debian has a new essential package init which depends on systemd-sysv | upstart | sysvinit. We could decide to adopt that. Moving to init-system-helpers for that. As for ifupdown: ;Most desktops, phones, etc. use dynamic network configuration with NetworkManager, there is no essential need for ifupdown. [Bug 1357713] Re: Use essential init package to ensure that an init system is present
First of all, for the removal of upstart, one must install package systemd-sysv. Right, that will switch the default init to systemd. If you want to experiment with that, you can do either that or boot with init=/bin/systemd (you don't need both). This is indeed not officially supported yet as there are still some hundred packages to update which only have upstart jobs, but for a day to day desktop it works quite fine these days. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to init-system-helpers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1357713 Title: Use essential init package to ensure that an init system is present To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ifupdown/+bug/1357713/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

It may also exist on Mint but I have not verified this. I apologize for the wrong information I gave in my bug report. [Bug 1366653] Re: kernel BUG at /build/buildd/linux-3.16.0/drivers/gpu/drm/vmwgfx/vmwgfx_drv.c:1187!
Embarrassingly, I wrote Ubuntu Mint in the bug report (there is no such OS but some people use that term to mean Linux Mint). Rather, I had this bug on Ubuntu MATE Utopic, not Linux Mint. It may also exist on Mint but I have not verified this. I apologize for the wrong information I gave in my bug report. I've edited the report and changing the distro/package back to open-vm- tools (Ubuntu), but if there's an independent reason to believe this affects other distros/projects, then by all means anyone may feel free to make any further appropriate changes. I'm pretty sure it is correct for this to be filed against open-vm-tools in Ubuntu. I'm less sure Ubuntu MATE needs to be listed, but since I believe all changes made since I filed the report were a result of my incorrect description, I've set it back to that and it can be modified further by others as needed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to open-vm-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1366653 Title: kernel BUG at /build/buildd/linux-3.16.0/drivers/gpu/drm/vmwgfx/vmwgfx_drv.c:1187! [Bug 1371159] Re: MacBookPro 11, 1 (Haswell, retina) fails to both suspend and hibernate with ubuntu 14.04
I have found a workaround to this bug. In other words, suspend now works in MaxBookPro 11,1 if you do: 1. Push e.g. control+alt+fn+F1 to go to a tty. 2. Close the laptop lid. After about 3 seconds, the laptop sleeps. Hurray! Upon resume, the tty had this message, which is also present in dmesg: [ 2705.633359] [drm:hsw_unclaimed_reg_clear] *ERROR* Unknown unclaimed register before writing to 203c For context, the dmesg around it says: [ 2705.632613] PM: Entering mem sleep [ 2705.632648] Suspending console(s) (use no_console_suspend to debug) [ 2705.633049] sd 1:0:0:0: [sda] Synchronizing SCSI cache [ 2705.633286] mei_me :00:16.0: H_RDY is not cleared 0x80141418 [ 2705.633359] [drm:hsw_unclaimed_reg_clear] *ERROR* Unknown unclaimed register before writing to 203c [ 2706.807381] sd 1:0:0:0: [sda] Stopping disk [ 2706.838212] PM: suspend of devices complete after 1206.641 msecs [ 2706.854177] PM: late suspend of devices complete after 15.978 msecs Note that directly closing the lid from Unity results in a suspend immediately followed by a resume. Note that this workaround did not work a few days ago. So perhaps a combination of having swap enabled (with the workaround reported earlier, above) and a package that got updated or installed new resulted in the ability to run the above suspend workaround. Also, the very nature of the workaround suggests that it is related to the graphics card, or the unity desktop itself, somehow interfering with the suspend sequence. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to pm-utils in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1371159 Title: MacBookPro 11,1 (Haswell, retina) fails to both suspend and hibernate with ubuntu 14.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pm-utils/+bug/1371159/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1357713] Re: Use essential init package to ensure that an init system is present
ubuntu-minimal depends on upstart and ifupdown, so supposedly you removed that. This is really not a supported configuration. If this is not officialy supported I recommend to make ubuntu-minimal essential in this case. At least removing it is currently a valid configuration. Debian has a new essential package init which depends on systemd-sysv | upstart | sysvinit. We could decide to adopt that. Systemd (or perhaps something else too), does that as well. You can install systemd-sysv, purge ifupdown and upstart, and lo will be up. [Bug 1038139] Re: Missing running check on init script
** Description changed: + + SRU Justification: + Impact: 'service haproxy stop' returns 4 if haproxy was already stopped. + Development fix: check whether haproxy is running before trying to kill it + Stable fix: same as development fix + Test Case: + sudo service haproxy start + sudo killall -9 haproxy + sudo service haproxy stop + echo $? + ~= this should print 0, not 4 + sudo service haproxy start + sudo service haproxy stop + ~= make sure this still correctly prints 0. + Regression potential: if done wrongly we could further break the haproxy service stop. + Hi, this is the relevant version information: # lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Release:12.04 dpkg -l haproxy|tail -1 ii haproxy 1.4.18-0ubuntu1 fast and reliable load balancing reverse proxy - When I issue a stop to haproxy via the init script, on line 49 it tries to kill the process and returns 4 in case of failure, which then after iis the exit status of the script itself. + When I issue a stop to haproxy via the init script, on line 49 it tries to kill the process and returns 4 in case of failure, which then after iis the exit status of the script itself. There are many reasons why stopping a process may fail, one of them is that the process wasn't actually running. In that case, I think the exit status of stop should be 0, since the process is stopped. This caused problems in the following scenario: haproxy governed by pacemaker if the haproxy process stops abruptly for some reason (crash, oom-killer), pacemaker will try to stop and start it again, but it will fail to stop (exit 4, expected 0). To work around this, I added a check on the init script to see if the process was running, see patch attached. ** Also affects: haproxy (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to haproxy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1038139 Title: Missing running check on init script To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/haproxy/+bug/1038139/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1363348] Re: [SRU] Multipart base64 file decoding of fails with large files - greater than 47406
Hello Jason, or anyone else affected, Accepted python-django into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python- django/1.6.1-2ubuntu0.5 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision. Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . [Bug 1373137] [NEW] need to run update-grub when grub-install
Public bug reported: I noticed this when installing ppc64el, as boot would fail. It would fail because no /boot/grub/grub.cfg existed. I'm not entirely sure when we need to run update-grub. I know that the 'install_grub' was choosing to *not* run update-grub because sometimes dpkg-reconfigure would do the same thing, and that was a slow operation. Its possible there are more complex symantics involved than I understood. But we were not running 'update-grub' in order to save some time. Basically, as input to 'install_grub', we have: * the target to install to (/dev/sda1 or /dev/sda) * the dpkg arch * the name of the package to 'dpkg-reconfigure' (derived from the dpkg arch and whether or not to use uefi). we dpkg-reconfigure because we may change the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT to include additional options such as console= From my memory, it seemed like on amd64 and i386, running 'dpkg- reconfigure grub-pc' would end up running update-grub. I then chose not to run update-grub because it was slow. Colin, Is there some simple logic that I can use to determine when running update-grub is needed? ** Affects: curtin Importance: High Status: Triaged ** Affects: curtin (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: Triaged ** Also affects: curtin Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: curtin (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: curtin Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: curtin Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: curtin Importance: Medium = High ** Changed in: curtin (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to curtin in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1373137 Title: need to run update-grub when grub-install To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/curtin/+bug/1373137/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1325626] Re: Inline translations from .desktop files are not loaded
Actually, removing RSS reader, as the issue is not that the .desktop file has the X-Ubuntu-GettextDomain, but rather than its desktop file was not set up for translations, which is being tracked as bug 1318008 ** Changed in: ubuntu-rssreader-app Status: In Progress = Invalid ** Changed in: ubuntu-rssreader-app Assignee: David Planella (dpm) = (unassigned) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1325626 Title: Inline translations from .desktop files are not loaded To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/camera-app/+bug/1325626/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1357713] Re: ifupdown and upstart can be removed
First of all, I do not think that being unbound is a bug in these unbound packages (upstart and ifupdown). The possible bug is in the package, which should depend on them. However, one should not remove upstart from the setup, unless certain installations and settings is made. First of all, for the removal of upstart, one must install package systemd-sysv. This is to change the setup from using upstart to use sysv instead. Systemd-sysv will force the removal of upstart and upstart-bin. Also these packages must be removed: cgmanager, libcgmanager0, systemd-shim, libjson0. In addition one should add init=/lib/systemd/systemd to the kernel line. However, this is all experimental now, I assume, and that is why Canonical hasn't officially proceeded to do this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1357713 Title: Use essential init package to ensure that an init system is present To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ifupdown/+bug/1357713/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
