[Bug 1388643] Re: installation edubuntu on 8gb usb, error not enought space

2014-11-03 Thread Phillip Susi
As the subject says: that is not enough disk space. If you choose
something else as the installation type and don't set up a swap
partition, that might give you barely enough space to install, but you
won't have much room for anything else.

[Bug 1310248] Re: [Lenovo Thinkpad X220] wireless switch doesn't generate an acpi event

2014-11-03 Thread SergeiS
Came to this bug while searching on my the wireless toggle switch
doesn't work on my Thinkpad X1 Carbon after a fresh Ubuntu 14.10
install. I understand some of the reasoning above, which seems to say,
that it is not really an issue because the button press can be
intercepted through other ways and dealt with then, but I want to say
that is the only key that is not working out of the box, so it is really
confusing, and just plain bad user experience. Even after reading the
solution above, I can't get it to work on my laptop. I can use rfkill
command for now, but, oh boy, it would be great to the key properly
working.

It appears that the code in charge of handling the X1 Carbon adaptive
keyboard is here and rfkill handling is there:
https://kernel.googlesource.com/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jic23/iio/+/refs/heads/togreg/drivers/platform/x86/thinkpad_acpi.c

So, it's either my stock kernel doesn't have it, or something else is
broken.

Here's some info about your system.

root@x1:~# cat /proc/cmdline
BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.16.0-24-generic.efi.signed

ibm/hotkey LEN0068:00 0080 110e

So, since nothing fires on both channels, it seems I can't manually bind
the button to rfkill either.

Please tell me what I can do to help.

[Bug 1388868] [NEW] gnome-calculator input field not scrollable with keyboard

2014-11-03 Thread PK
Public bug reported:

The cursor disappears when scrolling a long input with a keyboard.

This can be replicated by the following steps:

1. Start gnome-calculator
2. Input numbers/characters until a scroll bar appears
3. Scroll with keyboard arrow keys to the beginning/end of the input

Result:
Cursor disappears. It however still moves along the input, but the input field
is not updated to that position.

Expected behaviour:
Input can be scrolled using keyboard arrow keys

[Bug 1384532] Re: libvirt-qemu apparmor profile missing kvm-spice

2014-11-03 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for the information.

Oddly, for the example in comment #4, the apparmor policy *is* in fact
in the listing of /etc/apparmor.d/libvirt.

Are you certain that instance also failed to boot?

I fear the log information will be overwhelming, but i think we'll need
full libvirt debug output. Please edit /etc/libvirt/libvirtd.conf on a
compute node where such a VM is defined (that won't start up), and add
the line

log_level = 1

then sudo stop libvirt-bin; sudo start libvirt-bin

and start the vm, then attach the file /var/log/libvirt/libvirtd.log.

I confirm this on a up-to-date ubuntu 14.04 amd64 server installation.
My X server is running on a different machine.

Running gnome-terminal gives:
Fontconfig warning: ignoring C.UTF-8: not a valid language tag

Maybe I could change locale settings to workaround this, but it is bug
and there seems to be a fix available.

[Bug 1388875] [NEW] [gtk-mir-backend] Clicking seems to confuse GTK (or the shell)

2014-11-03 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug reported:

Using utopic or current vivid, clicking on buttons/menubar in gtk
application under unity8-mir leads to not working softwares.

Not sure if that's the GTK backend or Mir to blame

Small example attached, the program has a button and a label, click on the
button should display clicked!.
Under unity8 the button seems to stop reacting after the first click and
sometime the program closes

(compile with gcc button.c -o button`pkgconfig --cflags --libs
gtk+-3.0`, to run it you need to have a .desktop running the binary and
including the X-Ubuntu-Touch=true key)

[Bug 1388294] Re: [MIR] geoclue-2.0

2014-11-03 Thread Michael Terry
- Needs a team bug subscriber for whomever will look after this in Ubuntu,
presumably the desktop team
- Can we port all of main during the vivid cycle? I'd really like to not ship
two geoclues in main. (remaining main reverse depends on geoclue1 are:
empathy, libunity-webapps, qtlocation-opensource-src, ubuntu-geoip, and
webkitgtk)
- Tests are disabled, that sucks. But they have seem to have a misleading
comment in debian/rules. If I take away the || true, the build still runs.
And I don't see any tests even being run by a make check. Maybe there is a
different way to run the tests... What's the story there?

[Bug 1379657] Re: Run click hook run-user in the ubuntu-core image

2014-11-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package click - 0.4.34.2

---
click (0.4.34.2) vivid; urgency=medium

  [ Michael Vogt ]
  * Demote ubuntu-app-launch-tools from a click recommends to a suggests,
since they are not needed on server installs.
  * Use dh-systemd to enable click system and user hook integration
(LP: #1379657).
  * add ubuntu-sdk-15.04 based on ubuntu-sdk-libs/ubuntu-sdk-libs-dev
  * click/tests/preload.h:
- replace deprecated Attributes: with annotations on the
  identifier
  * click/tests/Makefile.am:
- add --libtool to g-ir-scanner so that it uses the generated
libtool instead of the system libtool which is now part of
  the libtool-bin package in vivid

  [ Colin Watson ]
  * Make click info always try opening the input file as a package and

[Bug 1388880] [NEW] metadata update should not delete large file manifest

2014-11-03 Thread Chris Stratford
Public bug reported:

If you upload a large file into swift using swift -S (or presumably
the upload() method) then add extra metadata using swift post -m (or
post_object()), the large file manifest metadata is deleted. It
shouldn't do that.

$ swift upload -S 1000 chrisstest /boot/initrd.img-3.16.0-22-generic
boot/initrd.img-3.16.0-22-generic segment 3
boot/initrd.img-3.16.0-22-generic segment 0
boot/initrd.img-3.16.0-22-generic segment 1
boot/initrd.img-3.16.0-22-generic segment 2
/boot/initrd.img-3.16.0-22-generic

$ swift stat chrisstest boot/initrd.img-3.16.0-22-generic

 Accept-Ranges: bytes
   X-Timestamp: 1415026308.79456

Interestingly, swift download (and the get_object() method) do re-
create the segmented file correctly even without the manifest (does it
just make an opportunistic look for chrisstest_segments?)

[Bug 1385903] Re: imagemagick crashes with stack smashing detected

2014-11-03 Thread Tapani Tarvainen
I reported the bug upstream and it appears the bug is in JPEG library
after all, cf.

http://www.imagemagick.org/discourse-
server/viewtopic.php?f=3t=26482sid=840b093fee284f81c6b46c7177ca07f3

As an interim fix (workaround for the JPEG library bug), I would suggest
building ImageMagick with jpeg_info.optimize_coding=FALSE as suggested
there.

2014-11-03 Thread Kunal Shah
Public bug reported:

[Bug 1289977] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 Update breaks grub, resulting in error: symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not found

2014-11-03 Thread M. Sussman
I guess I did not make myself clear in #272. When the upgrade to 14.04
from 13.10 failed the first time, the message I got on attempted boot
was, error: symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not found. That
points to this bug. Bug 1311247 does not give that error.

[Bug 1388887] [NEW] two cursors instead of one

2014-11-03 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading from 14.04 to 14.10, I sometimes (not sure what triggers
or fixes it) have a double cursor. It persists across applications and
the desktop. When I do a screen capture, the cursor is not visible.

of it is another cursor, pointing at a different angle, that follows it

[Bug 1388884] Re: Can't upgrade fro Ubuntu 12.04.05 LTS to 14.04.1 LTS though I disabled all external repositories in sources.list and deleted sources.list.d folder

2014-11-03 Thread Kunal Shah
This is the error I receive in step 2 (Setting new software channels):

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

 This can be caused by:
 * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command
'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal.

[Bug 1388618] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad E440] Ubuntu 14.04 doesn't recover from suspend

2014-11-03 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

- After the system is suspended it doesn't recover. The screen remains black,
the lid still blinks (indicating that the laptop is suspended). The power

- A workaround for this problem is to disable USB3 support from bios. The
problem is similar to bug #1331077.

[Bug 1380848] Re: Apps and services use large amount of CPU after unity8 resets

Re: [Bug 1388139] Re: package udev 204-5ubuntu20.7 failed to install/upgrade: postinst segfault

2014-11-03 Thread Søren Bredlund Caspersen
Indeed, not sure why. Even if udev failed to configure it should still
be unpacked. What's the output of dpkg -s udev | grep Status:?

sc@desktop-ssd:~$ dpkg -s udev|grep Status:
Status: install reinstreq half-installed
sc@desktop-ssd:~$

 Your log now shows:
 /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/udev: 2: set: Illegal option -t

Can you please show what line 2 is?

I'm not sure if this is what you are asking, but the file
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/udev
has this as the first couple of lines:

#!/bin/sh -e

PREREQS=

prereqs() { echo $PREREQS; }

case $1 in
prereqs)
prereqs
exit 0
;;
esac

The sed should have changed it to
set -x, if it's something else can you please manually edit it to
 that?

Adding set -x as the second line doesn't change much.
Have tried apt-get install -f, still same error.

you just get lost in a maze of twisty dependencies all alike because
owncloud likes to ship many dependencies as part of the package.

[Bug 1384508] Re: No indicator icon for Deluge in Unity

2014-11-03 Thread Franko Burolo
I couldn't find python-indicator in the repos, but python-appindicator
did solve the issue. I guess it was renamed at some point, or it is a
typo. Anyway, I can confirm that the package (python-appindicator)
solves this, so an explicit dependency on it should fix the bug.

After upgrading from 14.04 to 14.10 I have the same problem here. So
probably is this some compatibility issue?

[Bug 1388889] Re: MIR: Main Inclusion Report intel-microcode (multiverse - restricted)

2014-11-03 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
** Description changed:

MIR: Main Inclusion Report intel-microcode (multiverse - restricted)
+
+ [Availability]
+
+ * Available from multiverse for i386 amd64 architectures
+
+ [Rationale]
+
+ * intel-microcode package installs and performs early loading of Intel
+ CPU microcodes to update and rectify CPU bugs, in the field, post
+ general availability.
+
+ * Also see request to install intel-microcode by default, when Intel
+ CPUs are detected https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-
+ drivers-common/+bug/1386257
+
+ * This would help to mitigate bugs in the field, for example, like the
+ recent Errata that prompted to disable TSX on certain line of CPUs.
+
+ [Security]
+
+ * intel-microcode are essentially firmware blobs that are loaded onto
+ compatible CPUs. It's had/impossible to inspect the blobs themselves,
+ thus this package is multiverse, and requested to move into restricted.
+ From packaging point of view, it simply ships an initramfs-tools hook.
+
+ [QA]
+
+ * Package requires no further configuration after installation.
+ * Package does not deal with exotic hardware, on the contrary Intel CPUs have
a large/majority market share of the i386/amd64 Ubuntu ports.
+ * Dependencies iucode-tool is required, which is also requested to move into
restricted.

** Also affects: iucode-tool (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Summary changed:

- MIR: Main Inclusion Report intel-microcode (multiverse - restricted)
+ [MIR] intel-microcode iucode-tool (multiverse - restricted)

Re: [Bug 1385920] Re: System does not boot to a functional graphical display

2014-11-03 Thread Ian Bruntlett
Hi Walter,

Reproduced this bug on another Dell Optiplex GX50 (hostname: austen).

I suspect the best workaround would be to install lubuntu 14.04LTS. Will
verify that sometime this week.

BW,

Ian
