[Bug 1390752] [NEW] samba wont launch with signal 11

2014-11-08 Thread Vorona
Public bug reported:

Not absolutely sure this bug is not already reported due to my insufficient
technical abilities.
Since installation of Ubuntu 14.10 I can't have a remote access to my computer
from lan - tried to open samba but it didn't launch or crashed immediately
(asking for password, dialog box closes when it is given and nothing then) -
uninstalled, purged and reinstalled samba - same issue.
Samba version is included in the log report hereunder (from
/var/log/samba/log.%m) :

[Bug 1390752] Re: samba wont launch with signal 11

2014-11-08 Thread Vorona
I manually added /var/lib/samba/private/smbd.tmp but it did'nt allow
samba to launch instead.

The lines below where added to log.%m at reboot :

[2014/11/08 18:59:23.013446, 0] ../source4/smbd/server.c:370(binary_smbd_main)

At this time the 'samba' binary should only be used for either:
'server role = active directory domain controller' or to access the ntvfs
file server with 'server services = +smb' or the rpc proxy with 'dcerpc
endpoint servers = remote'
You should start smbd/nmbd/winbindd instead for domain member and standalone
file server tasks

[Bug 1366174] Re: apache2 SEGV with multiple SSL sites

2014-11-08 Thread Alex Bligh
I have added [Impact] and [Regression potential] sections.

Do the SRU requirements mean we need a patch for U too? I'm not sure
what current development release means right now given that U is out.
I believe the upstream 2.4.10 patch should apply straight to U. It's
upstream, so V will presumably get whatever upstream has.

I'll ask for someone to nominate this but I think you may need to take
it from here, Robie.

** Description changed:

Apache2 crashes with multiple SSL sites.
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ Apache may SEGV on initialisation (and thus refuse to start) when using
+ multiple SSL sites in a moderately complex configuration. Though the
+ crash is caused by OCSP stapling code, it is not necessary for OCSP to
+ be enabled to cause the problem. As the problem is caused by a memory
+ address changing between reads of the config file, in theory any
+ configuration with one SSL site could refuse to run, though in practice
+ a degree of complexity appears to be necessary to cause sufficient
+ memory allocation to trigger the crash.
+
+ The bug is thus serious as any SSL apache configuration may not load.
+
+ [Testcase]
+
+ See comment #1
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ The most likely regression potential is a failure of OCSP to work
+ properly. OCSP is relatively new and little used code, and hence is less
+ well tested than other areas. Though the work was done upstream and has
+ been approved by OCSP-familiar apache authors, it is possible a change
+ to the OCSP code will cause some OCSP functionality defect. However, the
+ comparative lack of use of OCSP (compared to SSL) means the impact of
+ any such failure should be limited.
+
+
+ Detailed description follows:

When starting apache2 with multiple SSL sites I get a SEGV like this:

  (gdb) bt
  #0 0x705faaf3 in ?? () from /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_ssl.so

+   https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1074406

save that I am not using Auth at all. However, ssl itself requires the
socache logic, so perhaps it has the same root cause.

Disabling a couple of SSL sites normally resolves the problem.

What I expected to happen: apache2 to start without SEGV
What actually happened: apache2 did not start due to SEGV

[Bug 1390768] [NEW] Mouse click position is wrong

2014-11-08 Thread Edwin Pujols
Public bug reported:

When I click somewhere in the w3m window the cursor is positioned 1 row
right and 1 column down from the actual mouse pointer position. This is
annoying.

For example,

x#
#

if I click the x the cursor moves to the (where I expected it to
move to the x).

Luckily I managed to work around this by patching the function
process_mouse(), with something like if (x  0) x--;. (I don't think
this is right, though...)

[Bug 1390771] [NEW] vim-puppet syntax highlighting scripts are not effective

2014-11-08 Thread Paul Kilgo
Public bug reported:

The scripts from vim-puppet are installed to `/usr/share/vim/addons`
which doesn't appear to be used by the current vim distributed with
Ubuntu 14.04. The net effect is that installing the vim-puppet package
seems to do nothing when you edit Puppet scripts.

Here is an example site.pp file:

file { '/etc/motd':
  contents = 'Hello, world!',
}

To reproduce:

1. Run vim site.pp

Expected behavior:

Syntax highlighting works. Running :set filetype? reveals that the
filetype is puppet.

Observed behavior:

Syntax highlighting does not work. Running :set filetype? shows there
is no filetype set. On some files, some other script detects the
filetype as conf.

If I run vim site.pp and then :scriptnames this is what I get:

  1: /usr/share/vim/vimrc
  2: /usr/share/vim/vim74/debian.vim
  3: /usr/share/vim/vim74/syntax/syntax.vim

Since most of these scripts are installed into /usr/share/vim/vim74 I
guessed the files are just in the wrong place. I linked each of the
installed puppet.vim files into their corresponding subdirectory in
`vim74/`. This gets the expected behavior for me.

This is what I get after running vim site.pp and then :scriptnames
after doing this.

[Bug 1389897] Re: no way to install enough qemu for kvm in a cross platform way

2014-11-08 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Fair enough. I should say that the reason I filed this bug and tried my
hand at a fix is so that devstack can just install the qemu-kvm package
on any architecture to get enough qemu to make libvirt happy --
devstack/libvirt doesn't use the kvm wrapper script so I only did that
bit to keep Adam happy :) (IOW, _I_ would be happy with just this
change:

[Bug 1311382] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 does not mount my Nexus 4 (Android 4.4.2)

2014-11-08 Thread Len Williams
I had similar issue with Samsung Galaxy 10.1 2014 SM P605 and running
Linux Mint 16.

The connection worked fine with Caja until I rooted the tablet, then I
got the No such interface 'org.gtk.vfs.Mount' on object at path
/org/gtk/vfs/mount/1 message.

Checked out http://www.webupd8.org/2013/01/upgrade-to-gvfs-with-mtp-
support-in.html, and Un-commented user_allow_other in /etc/fuse.conf.

Now all works fine as before.

[Bug 1389858] Re: Libreoffice calc 4.2.7-0ubuntu1 not updating references after sort

2014-11-08 Thread Manuel Iglesias Alonso
@Björn Michaelsen: I am reddit OP. I think that distinguishing sorting
behaviour by '(not)adjusting references' is prone to confusion (more
below). I prefer to use 'old' or 'new' style LibreOffice sorting. 'old'
meaning the standard sorting behaviour in all spreadsheet software and
LibreOffice up to version 4.2.x.

For me (see #14 above) sorting is a tool that allows me to do painlessly
what I could do 'manually' by, laboriously, inserting/removing, cutting
and pasting rows. Seen in that light the 'old' sorting style is also the
logical one: When I cut and then paste (to a different position) a row
of cells the formulae which do not use absolute references are
automatically adjusted (i.e. a reference to the cell to the left is
maintained) and, therefore, there is no need for more adjusting after
(manual) sorting.

[Bug 991707] Re: Touchpad pointer gets stuck often

2014-11-08 Thread isomorphismes
My trackpad is stuck (Ubuntu 12.04). I think Chromium may have messed it
up. When I tried to killall chromium-browser to release the pointer it
only half-killed the browser (only killing the tabs; I had to killall
chromium-browser again to get the windows to close).

The fixes of synaptiks and VT switching did not work for me.

[Bug 1177051] Re: Pinta is not in Open With menu of pictures

2014-11-08 Thread Rolf Leggewie
** Description changed:

When I click on a image to open image with pinta, I cannot see pinta in
the menu. Please use following Exec line in pinta.desktop file:

  Exec=pinta %F

  rather than

  Exec=pinta
+
+
+ =
+
+ SRU PROCESS
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ * As explained above the omission of %F in the exec line of the desktop
+file leads to pinta not being registered as an image handler.
+ * The fix is to upload a commit made upstream in 1.4
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Open Nautilus
+ * Visit a folder containing a jpg file
+ * right-click on the jpg file and choose Open with
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * The lack of %F was just an omission that upstream rectified and we
+should, too

[Bug 1172094]

2014-11-08 Thread Peter Hutterer
Fixes for that are in synaptics 1.8 and 1.7.6. It was caused by missing
SYN_DROPPED handling.

You'll need libevdev 1.2 or later, iirc to get rid of the bug in
synaptics 1.8.

Otherwise, the commit on the 1.7 branch was:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-input-synaptics/commit/?h=synaptics-1.7-branchid=bbaf4d646ebf4393a1ee0eb9bcc569054ed878f9

[Bug 1387214] Re: [TOPBLOCKER] file corruption on touch images in rw portions of the filesystem

2014-11-08 Thread Niklas Wenzel
I've had this issue multiple times yet. For me it has always been like
that: The content of a file gets overriden and therefore the system
fails to do something.

Last time my system settings broke completely. When doing a cat
~/.config/dconf/user I got:
/opt/click.ubuntu.com/com.ubuntu.developer.webapps.webapp-gmail/1.0.25
And after a reboot it now shows this:
/opt/click.ubuntu.com/com.ubuntu.developer.filip-dobrocky.2048native/0.2

Deleting ~/.config/dconf/user did the trick for me.

Some other time system updates didn't work and doing a cat
/cache/recovery/image-master.tar.xz.asc revealed it contained the following
content:
/opt/click.ubuntu.com/com.ubuntu.developer.majster-pl.utorch/1.6

[Bug 1390700] [NEW] perl 5.20 missing fakethe.h perlsfio.h

2014-11-08 Thread Sebastian Podjasek
Public bug reported:

Not sure that this is Ubuntu/Debian issue but after upgrading 14.04 to
14.10 (with new perl package 5.20) due to lack of these two files I

Solution was simple:
sudo touch /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl/5.20/CORE/fakethr.h
sudo touch /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl/5.20/CORE/perlsfio.h

[Bug 1390628] Re: Mouse pointer invisible after upgrade to Xubuntu 14.10

2014-11-08 Thread Thaddäus Tintenfisch
We need to figure out why the daemon is started automatically on session
start. Please clear the Xfce session cache (Settings Manager Session
and Startup Session) and relog. Did it resolve the problem?

If no, try to remove the gnome-settings-daemon package. The package
manager will tell you if this action will break any dependencies.

[Bug 1388329] Re: Libvirt causes random kernel panics

2014-11-08 Thread mard0
I can confirm that the bug is caused by the use of LVM as storagepool. I
copied a VM and changed the hard disk into an image on the physical
drive that I dd'ed from the original LVM disk. With this configuration I
was unable to reproduce the bug.

[Bug 1390628] Re: Mouse pointer invisible after upgrade to Xubuntu 14.10

2014-11-08 Thread luca
Clearing the session didn't help, I removed the gnome-settings-daemon
package (only gnome-control-panel required it and I removed it too) and
reverted the changes to dconf as mentioned in the debian issue and now
it works OK. I don't know why gnome-settings-daemon was installed and
much less why it was automatically run at session startup.

Thanks.

[Bug 406154]

2014-11-08 Thread Tilman Vogel
(In reply to Aaron J. Seigo from comment #99)
@Tilman Vogel: If you can not fix it yourself, and evidently people who may
be able to are not motivated to do so, then perhaps paying someone to fix it
would be a possibility. Not everything gets accomplished gratis. (No, I'm
not interested in being paid to fix this :)

That's an interesting suggestion - however, where do I find those
people? It might actually be quite a good idea to invent an open-source
job market where I could post Who is going to fix
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=184062 for € 20? I am not sure
about the legal implications, however... Actually, that could be
integrated into the bug-tracking system. Instead of casting a vote, we
could pledge a bounty. Every vote on this bug worth 10 ¢ would make this
a 58 € bug already...

[Bug 406154]

2014-11-08 Thread Tilman Vogel
For me, this is by far the most annoying problem I have with KDE because
it happens to me every time I switch from wired network to wireless. So,
I sympathize with Szczepan's frustration, even if that does not
immediately help.

6th anniversary in February and a lot of votes makes me wish one of the
people who could fix this quickly had a similar setup as I do. It would
probably be fixed within days...

I don't see why it necessarily couldn't work, and this appropach hasn't

looks like it gets stuck trying to get free/available space info.

That said, I *vaguely* recall seeing a reviewboard request covering this
case recently. I'll go do some digging.

That said, can anyone confirm problem exists using latest kde-
workspace-4.11.13 + kde-4.14.2 ? (latest confirmations I see still
mention kde-4.13.x)

[Bug 406154]

2014-11-08 Thread aseigo
This bug should perhaps be assigned to kdelibs, as it is not really a
plasma bug ... thought it could be worked-around in kickoff. See
Bug#316655 which has more information on the problem. The culprit is the
free space checking code; it makes a blocking call and when the mount
point is not available this simply hangs. This problem affects several
KDE components (among other software out there) ... one possibility is
to simply not show the free space in kickoff, though that probably
involves moving away from PlacesModel (assuming that is what is still
used). So a proper solution in the free space checker is probably the
best approach.

My suggestion would be look at the filesystem type advertised for the
mount point and simply avoid any free space (or similar info fetching)
attempts on nfs, cifs, etc. and perhaps also fuse mounts.

@Szczepan I don't see why it necessarily couldn't work, and this
appropach hasn't been tried yet, unlike much everything else that has
been *proven* ineffective over the last five years.

You are not the first person think that behaving badly will make things
better. It has been tried many times in the past and honestly doesn't
work.

Regardless of whether it works or not, it is not welcome in KDE. Please
see: https://www.kde.org/code-of-conduct/

@Tilman Vogel: If you can not fix it yourself, and evidently people who
may be able to are not motivated to do so, then perhaps paying someone
to fix it would be a possibility. Not everything gets accomplished
gratis. (No, I'm not interested in being paid to fix this :)

[Bug 1387214] Re: [TOPBLOCKER] file corruption on touch images in rw portions of the filesystem

2014-11-08 Thread Niklas Wenzel
Doing a short grep, I also found that line in a lot of files, e.g. in
the following one: ~/.cache/upstart/logrotate.log

The file started with
/opt/click.ubuntu.com/com.ubuntu.developer.filip-dobrocky.2048native/0.2,
then continued with its normal content and in the middle of the file the
following line could be found which clearly isn't there for logical reasons:
error: b/opt/click.ubuntu.com/com.ubuntu.developer.dpniel.dekko/0.2.9error:
bad top line in state file /home/phablet/.cache/logrotate/status All other
lines looked like this one: error: bad top line in state file
/home/phablet/.cache/logrotate/status

Having seen that error message, I checked the file it mentioned. Guess what its
content is:
/opt/click.ubuntu.com/com.ubuntu.developer.dpniel.dekko/0.2.9

There actually seem to be a lot of corrupt files like these ones and
it's the second Ubuntu (Touch) installation which gives me those
results.

However, if you still think, it's a different bug, I will be happy to
hide all my comments here and file a new bug. ;)
