[Bug 1391984] [NEW] Max resolution of external monitor degrades when upgrading from 13.10 to 14.04.1
Public bug reported: On a Macbook Air 2013 (6,2), I used to run Mint 16 XFCE (natively, not via virtualization), and had my external Samsung display happily running at its max resolution of 2560x1440 via a HDMI adapter. I confirmed the same resolution can be obtained when booting Xubuntu 13.10 from USB. I recently upgraded to Xubuntu 14.04.1 and now the external display will not run at anything higher than 1920x1200. xrandr does not show anything higher than that available. [Bug 1375028] Re: onboard loses the focus when attempting to type in Unity Dash
@Tim, on Ubuntu 'Force Window on Top' It is enabled by default, and has been so for years. It is enabled to prevent the exact problem you describe, having Onboard show below Unity Dash and not being able to type. There have been other attempted fixes, from both Unity and Onboard, but those tended to be fragile and prone to breakage with every new Ubuntu release. Hence 'Force Window on Top' it is now. My question is, do you have a reason for keeping 'Force Window on Top' disabled? We might want to steer this bug report in a different direction then. @Francesco, I think you mean Bug #960537. [Bug 1384286] Re: add directory allowing scopes and apps to share data
So, if I understand you correctly, you are saying that @{HOME}/.local/share/unity-scopes/leaf-net/@{APP_PKGNAME}/* is the writable cache directory for the scope (exactly as it is now), and @{HOME}/.local/share/@{APP_PKGNAME}/* is the readable directory where the scope can read data produced by the app? Yes I take it that the readable directory would not be applicable to scopes that do *not* install together with an app in the same click package? (We would throw an exception if a scope doesn't have an associated app and tries to get the directory name.) If I understand the question, APP_PKGNAME is unique to the scopes and apps installed by a particular click package. A differently named click package will have a different APP_PKGNAME set, so there is isolation between clicks. This bug only allows scopes and apps within the same click to coordinate with each other. Now, if I have this picture correct, it implies that a scope can read from an app, but an app cannot read from a scope. Is that what we want? If so, I think I'm good with this. (I haven't implemented anything yet, so there are the usual caveats. But, off-hand, I don't see a show- stopper.) This is correct and I think it is what we want. I'm still holding out for the possibility of a local content scope some time down the road and allowing writes to the app dir in a local content scope would allow an app to break out of confinement via this shared dir (of course, we could just not let that scope type coordinate with an app...). Let's go with what I suggested for now, and I will document the thinking in the policy so the thinking isn't lost. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1384286 Title: add directory allowing scopes and apps to share data To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor-easyprof-ubuntu/+bug/1384286/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1389858] Re: Libreoffice calc 4.2.7-0ubuntu1 not updating references after sort
I configured a new machine with Ubuntu 14.04 months ago. I have been gifted with LibreOffice 4.2.7.2. I was using Ubuntu 12.04 before that, and had LibreOffice 4.1.something. Before that I was using OpenOffice, before that Excell, before that Easy-as-123. All of them update references consistently. I have never noticed an inconsistency in them in about 25+ years of using spreadsheets. With 4.2.7.2 I immediately noticed that I was unable to sort all 2582 rows of my spreadsheet at once -- it simply crashed. (a different bug) I have been working with 4.2.7.2 now for MONTHS and only today did I find that it does not sort references properly. You cannot imagine my disappointment. You cannot imagine the time it is going to require to unmangle this spreadsheet if that is at all possible. It represents 8 years of my work. Luke (lukebenes) wrote on 2014-11-06: Why are we breaking old spreadsheets and interoperability for a few users that don't know how to use absolute references? Absolutely. Nothing else needs to be said. If the people who want a different type of reording the contents of rows of a spreadsheet want it to do something non-sensical, then, add a new and completely different function called MANGLE and leave SORT alone to work has it has for decades. Sort should work exactly and only like one resorted the sheet by hand by cutting and pasting entire rows. Anything else just violates the entire concept that rows are records and must stay together. If your rows do not represent records that must stay together and you want a result that cannot be achieved by cutting and pasting entire rows then you want to do something other than SORT. This comment represents only a tiny fraction of the time I will spend correcting the months of mangling caused by this stupidity. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1389858 Title: Libreoffice calc 4.2.7-0ubuntu1 not updating references after sort To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1389858/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1355463] Re: Unity launcher crash after click second open window
I also had this problem, as well as when using super+w. I could solve it by playing around with some settings but because I can not reproduce the problem, I'm not able to narrow it down. Anyway, maybe someone else can do it using the steps I've done – up to that point, where I realised, that the problem was gone: 1) moving 'unityshell' to the last entry in /org/compiz/profiles/unity/plugins/core (with dconf-editor), as described in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1284898/comments/10 2) changed the following settings using ccsm: 2.1) OpenGL - General - Texture Filter: switched from Good to Fast 2.2) Scale-Plugin - Appearance - Darken Background: switched from true to false 2.3) Scale-Plugin - Appearance - X Offset: Increased from 0 to 1 2.4) Scale-Plugin - Appearance - Y Offset: Increased from 0 to 1 2.5) Scale-Plugin - Bindings - Key Bindings Toggle Scale Mode: switched from true to false As stated before, I could not reproduce the problem. That means, I also turned back all the described settings back to their previous values, but it still works. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1355463 Title: Unity launcher crash after click second open window To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1355463/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1389858] Re: Libreoffice calc 4.2.7-0ubuntu1 not updating references after sort
My greatest fear now is all those people who still have not realized this is happening, and, are still in the process or mangling spreadsheets. Until Libre Office releases a patch retroactively fixes all 4.2.7.2 installations on all Ubuntu 14.04 installations, AND pops up a special window when people try to sort in future, telling them that sorry for months you have not been sorting spreadsheets but rather mangling them, don't worry though, now it works correctly again, sorry for the loss of years of work then these people will go on mangling spreadsheets This is to the point of saying Ubuntu 14.04 should be withdrawn to prevent any further damage. It is just not worth it if it damages years of work. If this is not the end of LibreOffice, I do not know what will be.

[Bug 1392025] [NEW] libjansson-doc pulls in libjs-backbone but does not make use of it
Public bug reported: libjansson-doc Depends on libjs-backbone and creates a link to it under /usr/share/doc/libjansson-doc/html/_static/, but does not require it anywhere. Ideally, we should avoid having this kind of dependency as it adds to packages to be installed when libjansson-doc gets installed. In this particular case, my issue with it is that it would be one additional package to write a main inclusion report for as I want to write a MIR for libjansson (a build dependency of libteam). Ubuntu picked and unfortunate intermediate version of the driver which had broken irq registration. This was fixed later by Sebastian Ott and Kleber and I added on top of that some more patches which did cleanups and more importantly added System p specific recovery features e.g. like EEH handlers and a method to reload the bitstream for p. Therefore it would be great if someone could have the Ubuntu folks pickup the latest version from Kernel.org. I know that Greg KH has a good version of the code in his tree. We need to check if that has made it yet into Linux version (both should be the same). == Comment: #3 - Frank Haverkamp haver...@de.ibm.com - 2014-11-12 07:58:03 == Christian has checked the linux.git version of the genwqe_card driver compiled against his Ubuntu kernel and found it working. [Bug 1392024] [NEW] Backlight control not working Dell Insprion Mini 10
Public bug reported: Since my upgrade from Lubuntu 14.04 to 14.10, my backlight controls (hotkeys to increase/decrease brightness) no longer work on my Dell Inspiron Mini 10. With 14.04 and earlier versions there was no problem. There are entries under /sys/class/backlight. I have also tried booting with acpi_backlight=vendor. After rebooting with that option, there was a dell entry under /sys/class/backlight, but this didn't fix the problem. Trying to pass brightness values to the files under /sys/class/backlight didn't change brightness either (I believe I tried all of them). I'll try to add the attachments recommended by https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging/Backlight in a moment.
