[Bug 1407372] [NEW] Blurry Font Bug from GTK+ 3.10.8 in Trusty 14.04
Public bug reported: Following a fresh install of Ubuntu Trusty 14.04 I had the surprise to see blurry fonts showing up in gEdit (stock install), when the document viewed is longer than a displayed vertical or horizontal page. I later found it was reported as a bug in Launchpad as blurry font as document is longer than one page and scroll bars appear, see: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+3.0/+bug/1309785 This GTK+ 3.10.8 bug was reported as corrected in September 2014 in in GTK+ 3.13.7 . However someone reported a work-around which consisted of adding an env parameter to the Exec command line in the gedit.desktop file. # Exec=gedit %U Exec=env GTK_DEBUG=no-pixel-cache gedit %U It looks like the displayed information on a selected package in Synaptic shows the same behavior i.e. Selecting package 0ad will show a perfect font rendering in the package info field. However selecting package 0ad-data which description is slightly longer and will not fit in the panel window, will display then a blurred font. I tried the same env GTK_DEBUG=no-pixel-cache to synaptic cmd. line however this is not working. Considering that Trusty 14.04 is a LTS release, does anyone knows which env parameter would fix this bug ? [Bug 1405907] Re: Z97 requires xHCI for USB2: IR remote unusable
When I tried running 'apport-collect 1405907' it complained that since I was running kernel 3.17, that it wasn't really supported and that I should file a bug report against kernel.org. I haven't yet completed that process since it seems incumbant upon me to try the problem against the latest kernel, which I am a tad reluctant to put onto my machine. I wanted to first research if any work has been done for z97 or xHCI on these newer kernels before I go through the risk of installing them on my machine. My suspicion, is that no work has been done in this area and that this bug is valid. USB 2.0 adapters are rapidly disappearing (just try ordering a USB2 PCIe adapter) meaning that xHCI support of USB1, USB2, etc. is becoming increasingly important. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1405907 Title: Z97 requires xHCI for USB2: IR remote unusable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1405907/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1405907] Re: Z97 requires xHCI for USB2: IR remote unusable
** Tags added: apport-collected trusty ** Description changed: Ubuntu 14.10, kernel 3.17.0 I have an HP MCE IR remote receiver that will not work on my ASRock Z97 based system, whether plugged into USB2 or USB3 ports. It is known that this device did not work in USB3 ports, but with the Z97 it will not work on either. The symptom is that when you use ir-keytable -t to display the scan codes for keys pressed, you will get inconsistent codes for the same key. The problem seems to be that Z97 requires xHCI: Due to the design of the Intel 9 series chipset, all USB devices connected to the USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports are controlled by the xHCI controller. Some legacy USB devices must update their firmware for better compatibility. [Bug 1407375] [NEW] Segfault on Install with Radeon + Intel iGPU both enabled
Public bug reported: My system is an Intel i7 4770k on an asus Z87 WS motherboard with an AMD R9 290X graphics card. With Intel iGPU enabled in the UEFI, the installer crashes. I have 4 displays, 3 attached to the R9 290X and one attached to the onboard graphics. I hit ctrl+alt+f1 and looked at /var/log/X.org.0 log and it indicated a Segmentation fault. I was able to continue with the install by unplugging all monitors but the primary monitor AND disabling the iGPU in the UEFI. I was somewhat surprised that it was necessary to completely disable the onboard graphics because in many OEM configurations onboard and PCIe will be enabled for possible multi- monitor configurations. After installing, apt-get update apt-get upgrading the distro, I installed the proprietary fglrx driver using software center, and that worked fine. I re-enabled the iGPU however the system appears to hang hard. On two of the displays (attached to the R9 290X) I can see the animated boot screen, but ctrl+alt+f1 does not work, and the caps lock light does not toggle if I hit capslock. No mouse cursor. I did not try ssh, but the system did not respond to a 'tap' of the power button to shut it down. I would be willing to experiment a bit here if someone can point me the right way. I realize I might have to do some things at the command line, but I wanted to bring this to your attention because I am not sure enabling the iGPU should causes the system to become unusable. I am using the official gnome variant of the 14.10 install USB stick. I tried both Try Ubuntu and Install Ubuntu from the UEFI boot menu and both options behave approximately the same way in terms of the Segfault. ** Affects: usb-creator (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1407375 Title: Segfault on Install with Radeon + Intel iGPU both enabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usb-creator/+bug/1407375/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1407377] [NEW] WordPress 4.1 causes segfault in php-ssh2
Public bug reported: Upstream php5 bug: https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=64535 Bug description: - I installed vanilla WordPress 4.1 (from wordpress.org, not the Ubuntu repos) - Several of the configuration pages, in particular wp-admin/options-general.php, would give NO RESPONSE errors when I browsed to them. - The apache error log showed that apache2 was SEGFAULTing - The log also showed that a coredump was being dropped in /etc/apache2 - I started gdb with /usr/sbin/apache2 and loaded the core file. The backtrace is below; the core file is also attached. - The backtrace showed that the last non-library frame was php_ssh2_fopen_wraper_parse_path () in /usr/lib/php5/20121212/ssh2.so. - A quick Google search turned up the PHP5 bug above - I rebuilt php-ssh2 with the patch from the upstream bug (reproduced below) and it solves the problem. Relevant package versions: - Up-to-date 14.04 install (as of 3 January 2015) - libssh-php 0.12-1 - php5 5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4 - apache2 2.4.7-1ubuntu4 - openssh 1:6.6p1-2ubuntu1 ** Affects: php-ssh2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1407377 Title: WordPress 4.1 causes segfault in php-ssh2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php-ssh2/+bug/1407377/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1406054] Re: EeePC 1000 screen black waking up from sleep
Velo Traveler, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested exactly shown as: kernel-fixed-upstream-3.19-rc2 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. [Bug 1002363] Re: 12.04 remmina full screen closes unexpectedly
Sam, thank you for your comment. However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal: cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a new report, you would be affected by https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line: sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf and comment out the line: 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], by changing it to: # 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via: ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash Please feel free to subscribe me to this new report. Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report. Thank you for your understanding. [Bug 1364630] Re: init: Error while reading from descriptor: Broken pipe
I too get this message in Kubuntu 14.10. I have a Lenovo laptop with Intel integrated graphics. I actually have two Kubuntu 14.10's in different partitions on this machine. I'm writing this from what I'll call P1, which I had abandoned because the partition was too small for my needs. So I created P2, which has plenty of space. P2 was running just fine for a couple of months when it suddenly started misbehaving badly. After a reboot (to P2) I got just a black screen, though I was able to get to a virtual console with Ctl-Alt-F1 and thus get much more information about the system. When I booted P2 via a slightly different route I got the error while reading from descriptor message. So I now have P1, which works but is not fully usable, and P2, which gives me a black screen. That opens up some potential ways of diagnosing the problem since I can compare the two systems. In particular, I ran dmsg in both systems and compared the two outputs to find the first significant difference. I found this sequence in P2: [1.143424] [drm] Replacing VGA console driver [1.143428] checking generic (e000 41) vs hw (e000 1000) [1.143429] fb: switching to inteldrmfb from VESA VGA [1.143449] Console: switching to colour dummy device 80x25 But in P1 (the correct one) the lines 428 and 429 are absent. This probably points directly to the bug if only I knew how to interpret it. P2 was fully updated when it started misbehaving; P1 was not. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1364630 Title: init: Error while reading from descriptor: Broken pipe To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/upstart/+bug/1364630/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1342574] Re: Samba crashing on null path in cleanup_tmp_files
Seeing the exact same issue here. I also note that the crash seems to be from starting smbd with the '-D' parameter by samba-ad-dc, however, it shouldn't even be trying to run this from what I can see. The system is running a fresh installation of Samba with a vanilla configuration and as such is not configured to function as a domain controller. The init.d script for samba-ad-dc contains this excerpt: start) SERVER_ROLE=`samba-tool testparm --parameter-name=server role 2/dev/null | tail -1` if [ $SERVER_ROLE != active directory domain controller ]; then exit 0 fi However, the upstart script performs no such check and simply attempts to start it unconditionally. I'm not sure if this is related to the behaviour we see here (expecting configuration parameters that aren't present?) or is a separate issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1342574 Title: Samba crashing on null path in cleanup_tmp_files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1342574/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

+ debian/control: - added texlive-latex-recommended, hicolor-icon-theme as recommended packages - moved rubber from depends to suggested - added texlive-latex-extra as suggested The second is no longer applicable (as latexila doesn't depend on rubber anymore), but the first and third should still possibly be kept as a delta. Any reason why they are no longer necessary? I hope you don't want to just sync for the sake of not having to do any work. * debian/rules: - added '--parallel' Do we want to drop this? They don't use the --parallel flag in Debian. ** Changed in: latexila (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete ** Changed in: latexila (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Jackson Doak (noskcaj) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1407385 Title: Sync latexila 3.14.2-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/latexila/+bug/1407385/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
