[Bug 1264115] Re: Gedit hangs while searching in large file

2015-01-14 Thread Andre M
THIS IS REALLY ANNOYING, the immediatly starting search function stalls the
program in long files (e.g. I want to search for def, it stalls the program
with searching all d's and so on (gedit gets greyed out) for a minute)
You can add an option to preferences, if user wants immediate search for every
letter you enter.
Please fix this asap.

[Bug 1410930] [NEW] fglrx with 'no tear' option : partially blank screen on external monitor

2015-01-14 Thread mohican
Public bug reported:

OS = Ubuntu 14.04
GPU = Radeon HD8210 on laptop
Laptop Internal monitor resolution = 1366 x 768
External monitor resolution = 1920 x 1080, linked to laptop with VGA cable

Display setting to display image on external monitor only, with its
native resolution. (Internal display is switched off.)

When setting the 'no tear' option in the Catalyst tool (package
fglrx-amdcccle), the image is truncated on the external display
(the right third on the screen is blank, however the image itself has the
correct resolution so one third of the image is simply not displayed)

The 'no tear' option is usefull as a workaround for bug 772873.

** Affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1410874] Re: Alarm sounds vs Calendar sounds

2015-01-14 Thread Ricardo Salveti
From bug 1391501 it seems we really should be using the role alert, as
calendar events are not really alarms. That would also mean that the
alert volume (default when nothing is playing) will also affect the
calendar events, which is also good.

Having a separated role would be a bit of rework on the rest of the
stack (pulse, etc), so we should just use the role 'alert' for now (same
as ringtone, camera click, etc).

[Bug 1410946] [NEW] Task Switching between Workspaces Fails if Window placement overflows

2015-01-14 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
Public bug reported:

To reproduce this bug you must enable workspaces:
System Settings Appearance Behavior Enable Workspaces.

Now, I'm assuming you have firefox open in this current workspace (from
where you are reading this message). It doesn't matter if it is chrome,
but later we will switch back to this web browser.

Hit ctrl-alt-downArrow to switch to another workspace.

Launch Gimp (for example) into this new workspace
SuperKey type gimp (no quotes) and hit the enter key.

Now, make sure that gimp's window is not maximized, and then move the
window so that any part of is clipped by the workspace, meaning, drag
the window down so that the bottom 10 pixels of the window are not
viewable on the workspace.

Now, on the launcher bar, click on an icon that is open in another
workspace (firefox or chromium for example). Then try to go back to gimp
by clicking on its launcher icon.

For me, unless the workspace encapsulates the gimp window 100%, I am not
able to switch back to gimp by clicking its launcher icon.

I was using Gimp as an example, but the same is true for any other
application whose window is not completely encapsulated by the workspace
that it primarily resides.

It does not have to be the auto-connection setting. You can even

[Bug 1410874] Re: Alarm sounds vs Calendar sounds

2015-01-14 Thread Pat McGowan
** Description changed:

As discussed with rsalveti and pmcgowan in #phablet on 14 Jan

There are two issues in the datetime notification code that need to be
  changed.

- 1. Right now we only set role=alarm if the sound is looping; ie if it's
- an alarm clock event rather than calendar event. We should
- unconditionally set role=alarm for both cases
+ 1. Right now we only set role=alarm if the sound is looping; ie if it's an
alarm clock event rather than calendar event.
+ Set calendar event role to alert

  2. Calendar events shouldn't play in silent mode. We can test for silent
  mode on the bus, http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~phablet-team/telephony-
  service/trunk/view/head:/libtelephonyservice/greetercontacts.cpp has an
  example: getUserValue(com.ubuntu.touch.AccountsService.Sound,
  SilentMode);

I'd like like to correct some statements in my comment:

- Switching to XRender does not have an impact on the placement of dialogs and
windows.
- Sometimes the panel freezes, then .xsession-errors still fills up the /home
partition. But it happens only every now and then.

[Bug 1308037] Re: No results from application scope

2015-01-14 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
This got for me to the point that I always don't get any results in Dash
Home after opening it. Fortunately there is a workaround in my case. If
I open the applications lens directly with shortcut (Super + A) or with
quicklist it gets results and then the Dash Home starts working.

I'm now on fully updated Vivid which was upgraded directly from Trusty
(sudo sed -i 's/trusty/vivid/g' /etc/apt/sources.list).

[Bug 1330405] Re: Unity top panel turns transparent with dual screen. Garbage shadow leftovers appear.

2015-01-14 Thread JaSauders
Same deal here. 14.04.1, fully updated, etc. Running on a Dell Latitude
E7440 that even came with Ubuntu on it. If I plug in a second display
after the system is booted, the top panel on the secondary monitor goes
transparent. If I boot the system up with the monitor plugged in, no
issue.

If I issue a restart to unity (ALT + F2, unity --replace), then it comes
back fine.

This does not happen if your panel is default transparency, though it
does happen if the transparency of the panel has been adjusted (at least
in my experience).

[Bug 1401741] Re: rtl8188ee wireless driver high packet loss

2015-01-14 Thread Bryan Quigley

This is a toshiba c55d laptop. I've seen this issue since trusty, very
bad packet loss, varrying in ping from 10%-45% to Verizon MI424WR-GEN3I
AP with WPA2 running in Compatibility Mode(802.11b/g/n). No other
devices on network have ever had this issue, in fact any loss of ICMP
packets almost never occurs on other devices from same location.

Already tried mainline (3.18.0) with no noticeable improvement.

- I will be trying the Realtek (from their website) and

2015-01-14 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Can you also test the mainline kernel to see if it fixes this bug as
also requested in bug 1410921 ?

Depending on the testing results for both bugs, we can perform a bisect
or Reverse bisect.

[Bug 1222021] Re: [SRU] xfce4-power-manager does not inhibit systemd from handling buttons and lid events

2015-01-14 Thread Jeremy Gabriel
I am running Xubuntu 14.04 and have this issue, though I'm more
concerned with the fact that my computer goes to sleep after a period of
inactivity despite having both A/C and battery set to Never in the
Power Manager. The workaround I use is a script that I added to the
Application Autostart list:

xset s off
xset dpms 0 0 0
xset -dpms s off

I realize there is a bit of redundancy in using those three commands but
I have tried different combinations and found using all three to be the
only successful method.

An interesting thing to note is that everytime I update Xubuntu base I
have to remove the command from the Autostart list and then add it again
(unchecking and then checking the box does not work for me).

Hope this helps,
Jeremy

[Bug 1410918] Re: Nautilus Crash when Displaying JPEG 2000 .jp2 .j2k Thumbnails

2015-01-14 Thread Pascal Mons
** Description changed:

There is definitely a problem with Nautilus and only with Nautilus. No
need to make jasper shoulder the GNOME responsibility.

On Ubuntu Trusty 14.04 LTS I have installed both Marlin and Nautilus /
  Nemo File Managers.

Marlin has no problem previewing JPEG 2000 thumbnails in .j2k and .jp2
  format.

However Nautilus [3.10] / Nemo (both) are constantly crashing. e.g.

nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in jpc_qmfb_join_colgrp()

On the command line running jasper is working fine too (Cevennes2.jpg is
coming right from the official website)

  http://www.openjpeg.org/index.php?menu=samples

  $ jasper --input Cevennes2.jp2 --output Cevennes2-bis.bmp --output-
  format bmp

When will Nautilus behave appropriately for JPEG 2000 thumnbails ? This
is dating back for years ...

I have read through the same bug reported Oct. 9, 2009
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jasper/+bug/427100

- Here we have Sebastien Bacher (an Ubuntu employee) stating that the
- issue lies with the jasper library.
+ Then 2 other bug reports from 2010 and 2011
+ https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jasper/+bug/863187
+ https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jasper/+bug/555238
+
+ Here we have Sebastien Bacher (seb128) (an Ubuntu employee) stating that
+ the issue lies with the jasper library.

The previous test I made with the Marlin File Manager and the jasper
Library proves that it's not the case.

As a further example when attaching the .jp2 sample for this bug report,
Firefox did open the File Manager (Nautilus / Nemo) to select the image
and it displayed the small thumbnail appropriately.

[Bug 1410921] [NEW] no sound devices, bad video resolution on laptop screen, no external monitors detected

2015-01-14 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

sorry for the meta-bug here, but just upgraded from
linux-image-3.18.0-8-generic: /boot/vmlinuz-3.18.0-8-generic
to
linux-image-3.18.0-9-generic: /boot/vmlinuz-3.18.0-9-generic

and now:
a.) I don't seem to have an audio device ('settings - sound' shows only
'Dummy Output')
b.) my LCD screen is in 1280x800 resolution rather than the 1364x768 that i'd
expect.
c.) external monitor is not detected.

xrandr shows:

[Bug 1316293] Re: unable to start

2015-01-14 Thread John Edwards
Yes, I also have a few error messages containing amavis[1533]: nss-
ldap: do_open: do_start_tls failed:stat=-1.

Removing ssl start_tls from /etc/ldap.conf allows amavis to start. So
the problem looks to be when amavis checking libnss when it is set to
use LDAP with STARTTLS.

The TLS certificates used by the LDAP server are signed by the company
CA which is set in the tls_cacertfile option in /etc/ldap.conf. They
work fine when using getent password and other commands. The same
certificates also work fine in Ubuntu 12.04.

Setting libnss to not check certificate by adding tls_checkpeer no to
/etc/ldap.conf to not change behaviour.

- format.
+ format. [I mean opening a folder with dozens of .j2k and .jp2 images].

However Nautilus [3.10] / Nemo (both) are constantly crashing. e.g.

nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in jpc_qmfb_join_colgrp()

On the command line running jasper is working fine too (Cevennes2.jpg is
coming right from the official website)

  http://www.openjpeg.org/index.php?menu=samples

  $ jasper --input Cevennes2.jp2 --output Cevennes2-bis.bmp --output-
  format bmp

When will Nautilus behave appropriately for JPEG 2000 thumnbails ? This
is dating back for years ...

I have read through the same bug reported Oct. 9, 2009
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jasper/+bug/427100

Then 2 other bug reports from 2010 and 2011
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jasper/+bug/863187
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jasper/+bug/555238

Here we have Sebastien Bacher (seb128) (an Ubuntu employee) stating that
the issue lies with the jasper library.

[Bug 1247366] Re: Evolution is missing bogofilter integration

2015-01-14 Thread Paul Smith
I believe this can be fixed with a simple patch to the rules file in the
Evolution Ubuntu package: if we set the BOGOFILTER environment variable
before we run configure then whatever value it has will be used during
the build without checking, and at runtime if the program exists the
plugin will be enabled (and if not it won't be).

** Patch added: Enable bogofilter plugin for Evolution

I see post 100 listed as a workaround, and I see multiple other solutions

really no way for anyone who gets pointed to this thread to know which of
