Tried your work around The last command dpkg --purge --force-depends libc6-dev-x32did help in resolving the issue. Very irritating to see that one apt-get install breaks your entire system. Got into this issue because I was trying to initialize an Android build environment on 14.04/64 bit. The AOSP advises to install g++multilib which simply breaks the system. [Bug 1420648] Re: Client certificate verfication fails
It turns out the actual bug is with Thunderbird. If you use your existing profile and change the IMAP software running on the same email server, then, even if you modify the Thunderbird accounts you were using to point to no server, and eliminate all visible config that might conflict, including saved password, then, you new accounts (but same username) to the same email server with different IMAP software (in my case switching from cyrus-imap to dovecot; I uncovered this by trying to switch back to cyrus-imap and having the same issues (the email server had to have been rebuilt due to hardware failure, and I had decided to switch IMAP software at the same time)). It seems Thunderbird doesn't like it when you don't start with a fresh profile in this type of scenario. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal: sudo apt-get clean Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a memory test. Thanks in advance! [Bug 1372609] Re: Touchpad detected as mouse on Asus ux303ln laptop
Mathias- Thanks for the quick work. Despite the issues noted below, this is a major improvement over psmouse.proto=bare, which was driving me insane with the accidental touch-clicks while typing. Thank you so much for your quick response! This kernel does allow the touchpad to be recognized but still seems to have some issues: 1) Intermittently, the pointer stops responding to the current touch; a) I can usually (~70%) replicate the behavior by moving the pointer into contact with the left side of the screen. Once it touches that side, the current touch no longer changes the pointer position. Lifting that finger and re-touching the pad starts the pointer moving again. b) I also see this behavior when the pointer is not near the screen edges, but is unpredictable, and in 30 minutes of testing, I haven't found a consistent pattern for replicating the issue. 2) the two finger scrolling does not exclude the button areas; e.g. if I rest a finger on the primary button, I can no longer move the pointer, only scroll the screen. In other touchpads I've used, the button area was excluded from two-finger scrolling issues. This issue is less concerning than #1, but the experience is very unnatural. Again, thanks for the fast response; I'm happy to run any other tests that you think might diagnose the issues. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1372609 Title: Touchpad detected as mouse on Asus ux303ln laptop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1372609/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 269904] Re: Screen refresh problems with nvidia cards
A Brief Note on Compiz Versions == The Ubuntu Compiz package version currently (2015-02-12) in trusty- proposed and which contains the fix is 0.9.11.3+14.04.20150122. This is technically Compiz version 0.9.11.2+bzr3869 with additional changes not yet merged upstream. The merge to upstream Compiz happens after the Ubuntu packages in the trusty-proposed pocket migrates to the trusty- updates pocket. Neither Compiz 0.9.11.3 nor Compiz 0.9.11.4 have been released by upstream yet regardless of how Ubuntu versions its packages, athough one of the devs incorrectly changed the Compiz version string to match the Ubuntu package version. Ryan did in fact install the first Compiz package available for Ubuntu 14.04 that contains the fix for this bug. In this case, the bug fix was cherry-picked for the Compiz 0.9.11 branch from the main Compiz branch (which is at 0.9.12.1) where it has already been released and tested. tl;dr - This bug is fixed in Compiz release 0.9.12.1 (currently available in Ubuntu Vivid Vervet) - This bug has also been fixed in the Ubuntu package compiz-1:0.9.11.3+14.04.20150122-0ubuntu1, currently in the trusty-proposed pocket and migrating soon to the trusty-updates pocket (and Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS) - The fix for this bug will appear in Compiz release 0.9.11.3 when it gets released in the near future -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269904 Title: Screen refresh problems with nvidia cards To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/269904/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1421366] Re: wifi works unstable
Summury. 1. Kernels beginning at 3.13.0-41 are buggy kernels 2. 3.13.0-40 works fine. 3. with upstream kernel 3.19 the bug is not reproducible. wifi works fine with 3.13.0-40-generic kernel after this kernel beginnig at 3.13.0-41-generic wifi works unstable, time to time internet connection is lost. Also wifi is not upping after sleeping or hibernation with kernels somewhere beginning at 3.13.0-41. So if someone has similar problems try to go back to 3.13.0-40 kernel. But really problem with not upping wifi after sleeping and hibernation is not reproducible with 3.13.0-41 or hard reproducible. But it is easier reproducible with 3.13.0-45. Kernels between 41 and 45 I did not tested for not upping wifi because I already have faced unstable wifi with 40 kernel that is enough to move to and stay on it. And of course errors I mentioned in this issue appears with kernel beginning 3.13.0-41 and including 3.13.0-41. Here they are: [ 28.076699] iwlwifi :05:00.0: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x8200. [ 47.038298] iwlwifi :05:00.0: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x200. [ 90.230594] iwlwifi :05:00.0: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x200. [ 153.073963] iwlwifi :05:00.0: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x200. So it seems there is a regression bug in 3.13.0-41. I have installed upstream kernel 3.19, got these warnings W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/rtl_nic/rtl8107e-2.fw for module r8169 W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/rtl_nic/rtl8107e-1.fw for module r8169 W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/rtl_nic/rtl8168h-2.fw for module r8169 W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/rtl_nic/rtl8168h-1.fw for module r8169 I ignored them. After reboot everything with wifi works well. No errors in dmesg and internet is stable. uname -a of upstream kernel: Linux ts-ThinkPad-SL410 3.19.0-031900-generic #201502091451 SMP Mon Feb 9 14:52:52 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux ** Summary changed: - wifi works unstable + wifi works unstable 'kernel-fixed-upstream' -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1421366 Title: wifi works unstable 'kernel-fixed-upstream' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1421366/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 647633] Re: xchat doesn't wait for authentication to succeed before autojoining channels
You might be interested in https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xchat/+question/262103 The issue is that XChat doesn't support SASL which identifies you before you are visible to normal users on the network. There is script at https://freenode.net/sasl/sasl-xchat.shtml , but I would suggest moving to HexChat as you can see from that first link. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/647633 Title: xchat doesn't wait for authentication to succeed before autojoining channels To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xchat/+bug/647633/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 781124] Re: XChat should (optionally) open the identd port via UPnP
I think this is invalid as ident port is 113 and on Linux including Ubuntu you must be root in order to listen on port 113. [Bug 1421924] [NEW] Unable to successfully install NVidia drivers (machine doesn't successfully restart)
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1401591 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1401591 Public bug reported: Trying to install the tested NVidia drivers and after restart the machine, the machine quickly started slowing after the log in screen was shown. The machine is still responsive over SSH and htop showed that Xorg (and occasionally compiz) were taking 100% of 2 cores for several minutes. The machine was recovered by `apt-get purge nvidia-*`, which reported a failure for some of the packages. It's possible that the upgrade from 14.04 to 14.10 is the source of the issue as I'm not sure that VirtualBox was successfully upgraded.
