Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

2015-02-17 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1022903] Re: [ARM] libnss-ldap misses softlink /lib/libnss_ldap.so.2

2015-02-17 Thread Robie Basak
Indeed Trusty shipped with 264-2.2ubuntu4, but the bug was fixed in
Debian in 264-2.4, so Trusty isn't expected to have the fix. However
Vivid has 265-3ubuntu2, so marking this Fix Released.

If you need a fix for Trusty, then an SRU may be possible here. But with
such a simple workaround and few users affected, it's probably not worth
it. If you disagree, please comment with a justification against
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#When and complete the steps
at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure. Note that
that SRU team would need to make a final decision.

[Bug 1384515] Re: Laptop screen dims on logout

Testing a clean install of the 14.04.2 image on this same laptop, I saw
that the problem returned. Checked the kernel version and it was
3.16.0-30. The original Trusty release with the 3.13 kernel did not
have the issue.

[Bug 1374166] Re: Document how to add swap space on Azure resource disk

2015-02-17 Thread trialotto
@Daniel,

The documentation is not okay: the swap partition (on the last part of a
disk) will not persist through shutdown in Azure.

The strange thing is:

a) often a NTFS formatted ephemeral disk reoccurs when starting up after
a shutdown,

b) a swap partition on the FIRST part of a disk IS persistent through
shutdown in Azure.

Please shed a light on the above.

Kind regards

[Bug 1369273] Re: gnucash crashed with ImportError in /usr/share/gnucash/python/init.py: No module named gnucash

2015-02-17 Thread dardhal
So this is how things _seem_ to go for this Bug:

(gdb) bt
#0  0xa62c5649 in dbi_shutdown_r () from /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libdbi.so.1
#1  0xa62c56dd in dbi_shutdown () from /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libdbi.so.1
#2  0xa62da2f4 in gnc_module_finalize_backend_dbi () from
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/gnucash/gnucash/libgncmod-backend-dbi.so
#3  0xa62da314 in qof_backend_module_finalize () from
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/gnucash/gnucash/libgncmod-backend-dbi.so
#4  0xb7c9fb79 in qof_finalize_backend_libraries () from
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/gnucash/libgnc-qof.so.1

- In frame #4 some Gnucash library function is called without any arguments:

253 void
254 qof_finalize_backend_libraries(void)
255 {
256 GSList* node;
257 GModule* backend;
258 void (*module_finalize_func) (void);
259
260 for (node = backend_module_list; node != NULL; node = node-next)
261 {
262 backend = (GModule*)node-data;
263
264 if (g_module_symbol(backend, qof_backend_module_finalize,
265 (gpointer)module_finalize_func))
266 module_finalize_func();
267
268 }
269 }

- This seems to call a formerly registered function by the name of
qof_backend_module_finalize, if it exists, which it must because it is found
in the conditional, for each and one of the backends (dbi being one, don't know
if there are others though):

1939 qof_backend_module_finalize( void )
1940 {
1941 gnc_module_finalize_backend_dbi();
1942 }
1943 #endif /* GNC_NO_LOADABLE_MODULES */
1944
1945 void
1946 gnc_module_finalize_backend_dbi( void )
1947 {
1948 dbi_shutdown();
1949 }

- That lead us to frames #3 and #2 without anything very interesting to say
about it. Let's dig deeper and closer to the real deal:

 274 void dbi_shutdown() {
 275 dbi_shutdown_r(dbi_inst_legacy);
 276 }

- So we are calling some function which description in the library
documentation is as follows:

Frees all loaded drivers and terminates the libdbi instance. You should close
each connection you opened before shutting down, but libdbi will clean up after
you if you don't.
Arguments
Inst: The instance handle

- Then control passes on to frame #0, and then die after a SIGSEGV:

 243 void dbi_shutdown_r(dbi_inst Inst) {
 244 dbi_inst_t *inst = (dbi_inst_t*) Inst;
 245 dbi_conn_t *curconn = inst-rootconn;
 246 dbi_conn_t *nextconn;
 247
 248 dbi_driver_t *curdriver = inst-rootdriver;
 249 dbi_driver_t *nextdriver;
 250
 251 while (curconn) {
 252 nextconn = curconn-next;
 253 dbi_conn_close((dbi_conn)curconn);
 254 curconn = nextconn;
 255 }
 256
 257 while (curdriver) {
 258 nextdriver = curdriver-next;
 259 curdriver-functions-finalize(curdriver);
 260 _safe_dlclose(curdriver);
 261 free(curdriver-functions);
 262 _free_custom_functions(curdriver);
 263 _free_caps(curdriver-caps);
 264 free(curdriver-filename);
 265 free(curdriver);
 266 curdriver = nextdriver;
 267 }
 268 #if HAVE_LTDL_H
 269 (void)lt_dlexit();
 270 #endif
 271 free(inst);
 272 }

- As I haven't compiled gnucash from scratch with debug information, I
can only theorize, but considering libdbi must be some quite frequently
used piece of code, I can't see how the library code can be broken

- I rather believe gnucash is blindly calling the dbi_shutdown without
making sure there is really any dbi connection to shut down in the first
place. Therefore the dbi_inst_legacy may be NULL or garbage, and as
soon as it tries to be dereferenced (see line 244 above), the code
crashes.

- So probably the problem is with gnucash logic, which tries to shut
down a dbi connection because it has registered the driver during
initialization, but without really checking on shut down if there was a
connection open (or still open)

- In the end, the fix may be as easy as adding some check to
gnc_module_finalize_backend_dbi to see if there is really any
connection to shut down, to only call dbi_shutdown when really
necessary. Being a global, checking for dbi_inst_legacy being NULL is
probably enough, lacking any better way of checking for any outstanding
DBI connection

All in all, a 15 minute investigation for me and a 5 minute fix for any
gnucash package or upstream maintainer.

Hope this gets looked into ASAP to have a working application without it
crashing every time on shut down.

[Bug 1422330] Re: [LENOVO 20238] suspend/resume failure [non-free: wl]

2015-02-17 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.19 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1420675] Re: crashes in install matlabpackage matlab-support 0.0.17 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

[Bug 1325228] Re: light-locker mutes audio on lock, does not un-mute

2015-02-17 Thread Fred Cooke
@ochosi you could at least confirm or correct @mspacek's VT switch root
cause comment. Dismissing it out of hand and setting to invalid is not
at all helpful. To me it seems as if he's right, and you're not, however
I'm skeptical of my own findings as you're the dev and are likely to
know best. If the VT switch is not initiated by and controlled by light-
locker, why is it that when I use gnome-screensaver with lightdm it does
not seem to switch VTs? At least, I don't get the same symptoms. My
symptom is JS clients in my browser becoming disconnected. It seems
comparable to the audio dies and network manager dies problem. If gnome-
screensaver is indeed switching, how is it switching without causing
these dramas and why can't light-locker do it this way instead? Cheers.

[Bug 1423037] [NEW] Mosquitto 1.3.4 has a memory leak

2015-02-17 Thread Roger Light
Public bug reported:

If a client publishes to the broker using a topic with a leading slash,
e.g. /foo this can lead to a memory leak.

The problem is fixed in v1.3.5 or v1.4, the best thing would be to
update to either of those. I have prepared a new branch with support for
1.4.

[Bug 1422999] [NEW] temp_info widget is missing a dependency on acpi

2015-02-17 Thread StephenS
Public bug reported:

The temp_info awesome-extra widget depends on the 'acpi' command for
temperature readings.

File: /usr/share/awesome/lib/obvious/temp_info/init.lua

It appears that the 'acpi' package is not a dependency on the awesome-
extra package. So, in a default installation, this feature requires a
user to manually install the acpi package before temp_info will work
correctly.

Re: [Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock

2015-02-17 Thread Andrea Azzarone
From the auth log file. There was nothing about unity, but a lot of logs
created by lightdm. Because you confirmed that you were locking/unlocking
the phone I thought about light locker.
On 17 Feb 2015 21:31, Burko rs...@web.de wrote:

 I just did. Im curious how it will turn out. I just rebooted, so I will

 How did you came across this assumption that I have light-locker
 installed? Did I miss a hint?

info:
   1. Do you use a multi-head setup? If yes, using just one monitor fixes
the issue?
   2. Can you reproduce all the time?
   3. Do you use ldap? If yes, using gnome-screensaver fix the issue (see
comment #115) can you still reproduce that?
   4. Please consider posting /var/log/auth.log (at least part of it,

   5. Please specify the unity version

   Sometimes (but not always) after locking the screen there is the
   situation not having any input field where I can type the password to
   unlock the session again. The shaded gray area simply does not have
   the input field. I can't do anything, I have to switch to text console
   and stop/start lightdm service to cure the problem loosing all of my

[Bug 1423040] [NEW] REISUB required on resume after suspend kernel regression 3.11

2015-02-17 Thread bruno
Public bug reported:

System:
Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit (actually mint 17.1 xfce cinnamon or zorin 9) or Ubuntu
12.04 with trusty-lts kernel
Nvidia proprietary driver (tested with 304, 331 and 346 versions) Geforce GT430
(may be related to nvidia but no bug on another system with Geforce 9400M)

Expected behaviour:
This system suspends/resumes very well on Ubuntu 12.04 with stock kernel (3.2)

What happened instead:
Unusable desktop after resume, nothing can be launched (often black desktop
and/or dead mouse). The exact behaviour depends on the kernel version and is
not always the same. Sometimes, the desktop is restored (after CTRL-ALT-F8)
with a live mouse pointer, but even in these case, nothing can be launched
(file not found errors or vanishing desktop after a click or simply no action).
Sometimes, (with CTRL-ALT-F1), ext4-fs errors are reported.

Investigation:
All these tests are done on an external usb disk installation, but the exact
same configuration is ok with Ubuntu 12.04. I tried usbcore.autosuspend=-1
kernel option at boot without success.
The bug can be reproduced if I update the kernel from a fresh (and functional)
12.04 install. Even on Manjaro, the bug appears with (at least) kernel
3.12.36-1 and 3.16.7.4-1 (but not with 3.10). I tried various kernels/nvidia
combinations on 14.04 without any success (3.13/3.16). It seems I can't get
trace in log files after suspend.

The bug is similar to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-
graphics-drivers-331/+bug/1210077. However, 1210077 is supposed to be
fixed so this one is different.

[Bug 1422345] Re: stop being nice does not work

2015-02-17 Thread Brian Murray
Thanks for bringing this up.

** Description changed:

+ Test Case
+ -
+ 1) Install apache2 from the -release pocket
+ 2) Run unattended-upgrades
+ 3) Observe apache2 running with a niceness of 19
+ 4) Downgrade apache2 to the version from the -release pocket
+ 5) Install the version of unattended-upgrades from -proposed
+ 6) Run unattended-upgrades
+ 7) Observe apache2 running with a niceness of 0 i.e. no niceness
+
+
  Since version 0.81, unattended-upgrades does the upgrade calculation with
os.nice(19). To finish the nice block in /usr/bin/unattended-upgrade, the
following call is used:
  os.nice(0)

  Since the argument is interpreted as incremental, this should be:
  os.nice(-19)

  Without this fix, this problem is back:
  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=701850
  unattended-upgrades: nice 19/ionice idle inherited by restarted processes

  Found in the trusty version (0.82.1ubuntu2), but probably in any version
  (including Debian) since 0.81.

[Bug 1294209]

2015-02-17 Thread Steve Dodier-Lazaro
Is the freeze caused by the Thunar daemon needing time to spawn, or by
something else?

I have a completely unrelated instance of calling D-Bus via Thunar
causing the caller to freeze (Firefox when opening the current folder,
according to Mozilla folks currently debugging their use of the
FileManager1 D-Bus interface).

Could it be that we should fix an issue in Thunar instead, and that this
would take care of the freeze? As I understand it, the progress dialog
can be useful when deleting large files from the desktop.

Thanks.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Since the package referred to in this bug is in universe or
multiverse, it is community maintained. If you are able, I suggest
coordinating with upstream and posting a debdiff for this issue. When a
debdiff is available, members of the security team will review it and
publish the package. See the following link for more information:

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

[Bug 1350958] Re: flash option should be disabled when selecting HDR

2015-02-17 Thread Selene Scriven
FWIW, this fix breaks a use case which worked before. It is no longer
possible to use the flash to help the camera focus the image before
taking an HDR pic.

Pre-image focus light should probably be its own option instead of being
entagled in the during-exposure flash setting, but I thought I should at
least mention it because HDR pics end up being lower-quality after
applying this fix.

Except NetworkManager itself doesn't make any new interfaces available
to you, and much less available of ifconfig.

As for the ccmni0 and the state of the ril device, that looks like
something that was fixed recently, but you seem to be running the most
recent revision (though it should be confirmed with the version on the
phone).

Please attach syslog for the touch install so we can see what happens in
why devices are showing up the way they are.
