[Bug 1429725] Re: package mariadb-server-10.0 10.0.16-2~exp1~ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2015-03-27 Thread Mark Constable
FWIW I also notice that /etc/mysql/debian.cnf contains socket =
/mysqld.sock instead of socket = /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock and
after many hours attempting to get the package installed I seem to have
it running but I cannot gain root access even though I have reset the
root password a dozen times in a few different ways.

/etc/mysql/mariadb.conf.d/mysqld.cnf has a user = mysql setting which
I think is needed to initially install the tables because doing so
manually results in some root owned files/dirs (like
/var/lib/mysql/mysql) but then that mysql user setting seems to disrupt
further operations unless there are specific grant entries for that user
and there is no hint of any attempt to setup a mysql user in the install
scripts.

I'd go back to mysql 5.6 but it uses a huge amount of ram by default,
over 400Mb RSS compared to about 100Mb RSS for mariadb 10 and mysql 5.5.
For me the only immediate solutions is to drop back to utopic and hope
the mariadb 10 packages get fixed asap.

[Bug 1348890] Re: Asus UX32LN: Brightness keys Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 don't generate evdev event

2015-03-27 Thread Zechariah Jibben
I can also confirm the bug on Ubuntu 14.10 on ASUS UX303LAB.

$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version
UX303LAB.205
$ uname -a
Linux UX303 3.16.0-33-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Thu Mar 12 12:19:35 UTC 2015
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

A possible workaround:

I have screen brightness control through the system settings, but not
through the Fn+F-keys. This works if acpi_osi=intel is in the boot
parameters, or there is no acpi_osi mentioned. For example, only
quiet splash. If you install xbacklight from the Ubuntu repositories,
the commands

$ xbacklight -dec 12.5
$ xbacklight -inc 12.5

decrease and increase (respectively) the screen brightness by 12.5% (I
picked 1/8th total, but another choice will do). So, in keyboard
settings I mapped these commands to Alt+F5 and Alt+F6, which seems ok so
far. Hopefully this will make things easier until a fix comes out.

Cristian, sorry I had been on vac for two weeks. For ssh you either need
to be able to ssh to a public host where I can ssh to as well (a server
of your's, a cloud instance, etc.) and forward your port 22, as you are
behind a NATed network. Or open port 22 on your router; but I guess that
isn't available to you.

[Bug 1421009] Re: unity8 sometimes hangs on boot

2015-03-27 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Unfortunately I couldn't reproduce success with my mako last night with
018 (qtbase + autopilot) + 013 (Mir 0.12.1) + rsalveti (glibc fix). Here
are the results until aborted:
http://people.canonical.com/~tjyrinki/qt5/fail/vivid-ap-mir013/ - for
example 6 + 8 failures in UITK.

I'll try again with the new #151 image including Mir, glibc and other
things + 018, but I doubt it'll change this picture.

@Albert did you test on krillin or mako?

[Bug 1436461] Re: [needs-packaging] libsystemd-daemon.so.0 needs-packaging

We do use --enable-compat-libs. libsystemd-daemon.so.0 doesn't exist any
more as nothing in Ubuntu uses it any more. But as I said you can build
software whose ./configure is still checking for the old split out
libraries with libsystemd-login-dev and friends (and then it will end up
being linked against libsystemd0).

[Bug 1437165] [NEW] Support TLSv1.2 in LTS Python 2.7

2015-03-27 Thread Antti Haapala
Public bug reported:

The Python 2.7.8 in Utopic contains backports for the TLSv1.1 and 1.2
protocols in the _ssl module; however the TLSv1.1 and 1.2 is not usable
/ at least enforeacble on Python 2.7.6 as shipped with Trusty. Given the
number of security woes lately in OpenSSL, and the possibility of
breaches in TLSv1, it would be worthwhile to preemptively apply the
https://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0466/ to at least Trusty.

[Bug 1284043] Re: udev renaming the same hardware network i/f to different name, breaks networking and firewall

2015-03-27 Thread Steve Buzonas
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1324558 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1324558

Adding information for individuals coming here because they get a
`rename*` device as a bonding slave. You can't use 70-persistent-
net.rules if you're matching on MAC address and are using a bonding mode
that gives all slaves the same MAC.

[Bug 1437171] [NEW] blkid does not list all devices at default

2015-03-27 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 15.04 dev with util-linux 2.25.2-4ubuntu2 and man blkid says
When device is specified, tokens from only this device are displayed. It is
possible to specify multiple device arguments on the command line. If none is
given, all devices which appear in /proc/partitions are shown, if
they are recognized. but it seems without a device argument blkid does
not list all recognized devices listed in /proc/partitions as this example
shows (but an additional device not listed in /proc/partitions is shown):

[Bug 1413540] Re: Trusty soft lockup issues with nested KVM

2015-03-27 Thread Tom Fifield
Hi,

Just wanted to chime in that this bug also affected me - running
OpenStack Juno w/KVM inside a KVM hypervisor.

CPU on the host machine is:
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu family : 6
model : 58
model name : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz

running 14.04 with the latest packages applied as of today (2015-03-27)
for both the host and the guest.

Lockup appeared to happen with one host-guest VM after I altered the
number of CPUs allocated to another VM (yet to reboot that VM for
changes to take affect), though I had also recently booted a new host-
guest-guest VM.

[Bug 1437216] [NEW] ubuntu-bug does nothing when called without arguments

2015-03-27 Thread Martin Ueding
Public bug reported:

As I understand from [the
documentation](https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Filing_a_general_bug_against_no_particular_package),
if the bug is not specific to a package, one should just call `ubuntu-
bug` with no arguments. That does nothing for me and I have to close the
terminal window to get rid of that program. `^C` alone does not help.

I use Awesome WM together with KDE.

@asala But does using upstart (or systemd, but with gdm instead of
lightdm) fixes it for you? Then it can be said, at least lightdm+systemd
issue ... However reading duplicates, and comments here, at least it
seems, Lenovo Thinkpads are highly affected for some reason, even if not
only ...

[Bug 180619] Re: vnc4: vnc4server: libvnc.so crashes Xorg 1.4 on remote keypress or mouseclick

2015-03-27 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
indy2718, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However,
Hardy Desktop is EOL, and your crash report is missing. If this is reproducible
in a supported release, please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.
First, execute at a terminal:
cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade
sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your
/var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash
report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a
new report, you would be affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to
WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via:
ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently.

Please feel free to subscribe me to this new report.

Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and
reopen it.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 247669] Re: vnc4: vnc4server: libvnc.so crashes Xorg 1.4 on remote keypress or mouseclick

2015-03-27 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Bill Loucks, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
However, your crash report is missing. If this is reproducible in a supported
release, please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about
your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at
a terminal:
cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade
sudo service apport start force_start=1

[Bug 1434396] Re: Xserver does not start on boot (low-graphics mode)

2015-03-27 Thread professordes
Just to confirm, the following combinations still boot OK on Thinkpads
affected by this bug (X201, X300, X240...)

systemd + gdm

upstart + lightdm

The following (default) is still NOT working as of today's updates:

systemd + lightdm

It boots to low graphics splash, but dropping to console login from this
freezes system.

Oddly two other Thinkpads,, X230 and T440s, are still booting fine with the
default systemd + lightdm

[Bug 1308047] Re: Installation of libapache2-mod-mono hangs

2015-03-27 Thread Csipak Attila
The bug is also mentioned elsewhere, with a somewhat different
workaround method:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/135547/how-do-i-set-up-mod-mono-on-11-10

(See comments under accepted answer.)

http://blog.xyzio.com/2014/02/05/libapache2-mod_mono-install-freezing-
during-install-on-ubuntu-at-digital-ocean/

The workaround for this is to open another session and restart/reload
apache:

root@xyzio:/home/xyzio# service apache2 reload
root@xyzio:/home/xyzio# service apache2 restart

Any opinions on which workaround is preferable (stop or reload+restart)?

It seems that problem caused by incompartible version of Perl. See

2015-03-27 Thread Jonathan Riddell
KWin upstream mgraesslin says..

In addition we found and fixed [2] an issue in the xcb/util-cursor library

which could result in no cursor [3] if the used theme does not contain the

elements KDE/Qt expects (this mostly affects default cursor themes changed by

distros). I recommend to pull the patch [2] or update to the new release [4]

for KWin 5.3. As the release is brand new I will wait till 5.4 to make it the

[Bug 1437135] Re: Push-client should be disabled when in flight-mode (no network connection)

2015-03-27 Thread John Lenton
Disabling push client at the moment would also disable the postal
service, which we wouldn't want to do i don't think. At some point those
two can (and possibly should) be split, but not for now. In view of
that, we could either expose an interface to tell us whether to wake up
the phone (to be called when entering and leaving flight mode), or
monitor flight mode status from push itself. The latter shouldn't be
hard, as long as it's exposed either as a property of network manager,
or by the AccountsService dbus thing (we're currently tracking
properties from both of those, so adding another property would be
fairly straightforward).

address-book-app hang case, even though for example UITK and
webbrowser-app still have more failures. The address-book-app that
failed reliably several times earlier, now in the comment #33 linked
results failed only 1 test on both runs, similar to what happens on
archive.

Rerunning now on image #151 + silo 018, UITK still seems problematic
which is not a surprise since it should be similar to yesterday's
combination of #150 + silo 018 + silo 013 + rsalveti PPA. This time
executing tests seemed to have hanged at one point, and touching the
screen interestingly resulted in Unity 8 crashing:
