Rudolf Göldner, there is no browser because with KDE if it's developed robustly, you are supposed to use the Dr. Konqi workflow that reports all kde related bugs (ksplashqml) to KDE.org bugzilla (preferred). This may not kick off due to collateral issues with the computer freezing. However, If you do a manual reporting against a crash file (like you are doing now), and no browser comes up, you probably didn't follow the instructions verbatim. Despite this, it's not necessary, as it still reports the crash to errors.ubuntu.com. I have a desktop and a laptop that need the 304 driver. Neither work with the patch provided in port #6. The dreaded cannot start X server message appears. Should work with the most recent unity8-lxc updates. Just make sure you've got the updates and then use `sudo unity8-lxc --redownload` and `sudo unity8-lxc --rebuild-config --rebuild-rootfs`. Then try to log into the Unity 8 LXC session. You might need to be a little patient... Is there no better solution than to say Change your BIOS settings? There is nothing to put the idea in the user's mind that that may be the problem, especially these days when many users have never seen a floppy disk in their lives. blkid will make gparted lock up for 20 minutes or more, other commands fail much more quickly. Because gparted calls blkid, one never sees any output from blkid when it is causing gparted to seem to hang. This means people installing Linux for the first time think the installer does not work and they are likely to go away and not come back saying Linux won't work on this PC. A PC that likely has a functioning Windows on it. At the very least there needs to be some sort of clue to the user, for example, programs that rely on blkid checking to see if it takes ages to respond and then informing the user the BIOS might need changing to match the actual drives installed, and the System Requirements documents for the various distributions changed to say make sure your BIOS matches your installed drives because there is one time where it will cause your PC to hang which is when you install Linux. As it stands, this problem is an example of Linux is too hard to use. There is currently no mechanism for a package maintainer script to automatically detect that you added additional ports and apply this change to the new configuration file in a major upstream release update. If you have a customised configuration file, then when you upgrade you should get a prompt asking you to update your customisations to match the new configuration file. If you don't, or you upgrade non- interactively, then the old configuration file will remain because we don't want to overwrite your customisations. That will cause the daemon to fail to start. When configuration file syntax changes between releases, there's no other real path that we can follow unless upstream provides some kind of automatic way to update previous configurations. I'd love to know how other distributions solve this problem. Thanks for the hint to try more than one hook at once, that's really useful! I'm done with the testing faster than I thought, because unfortunately none of the hooks makes the bug go away. I even tested applying all five of them together, but no success. [Impact] Due to a bug in GTK+2, mate-display-properties crashes when the screen resolution is changed *outside* of it (e.g. by changing the resolution not via that app, but somewhere else). The attached patches fix the issue in GTK+2 and prevent crashing of m-d-p. Since this issue caused much inconvenience for users, the fix should be backported to all current stable releases of Ubuntu. [Test Case] The easiest way to reproduce it is via Virtualbox: 1. Run mate-display-properties in the VM. 2. Make the VM go full-screen. 3. See m-d-p crash. [Regression Potential] After several months of testing the patched version of GTK+2 in Debian Jessie, I found no regressions. Hi again. This bug affects every software using gnome-keyring and as such represents a serious security issue which should be examined with attention, to avoid future surprises. The gnome-keyring is the gateway keeper to all passwords saved on gnome desktops, used via dbus which may also be a cause to the problem. I don't think this is a valid bug in Ubuntu since you're trying to build differently from the way that Ubuntu does it. Certainly not in 12.04 anyway, which is an old (but still supported) release. My setup : - Ubuntu 14.04 LTS - Lenovo ThinkPad T420 + an additional Lenovo Screen ThinkVision (20) + Logitech Anywhere MX mouse I use the shortcut Windows + L (same as CTRL+ALT+L but less fingers are needed) to lock my laptop. I cannot reproduce the issue, but it happens every day. Bashar's solution did not work for me. I'm running 14-04. I did the chmod (needed sudo in front, of course). I had a gpg.conf file which did not have the 'use-agent' line so I added it first after the introductory blurb. Rebooted and checked that gpg-agent was running with ps -ef | grep gpg-agent. Ran echo $GPG-AGENT-INFO but got another line than the one in Bashar's post: /run/user/1000/keyring-UzXp2m/gpg:0:1 There is a directory /tmp/gpg-aE7ygt which contains the following file: srwxrwxr-x 1 james james 0 jun 3 10:35 S.gpg-agent Any attempt to read the file comes up with S.gpg-agent: No such device or address Kleopatra still barfs at the Gpg-Agent Connectivity test. Benjamin, I don't think the problem is related to a somehow messed up configuration (user or system wide), because as mentioned in #8, I can reproduce the bug by booting from a pristine live iso image. @jrp Do you have any suggestions on my remarks above? After the machine went intro read-only we rebooted and started the whole sequence again. We did not have had any problems since then. This was a valid problem in the UI Toolkit in the previous versions - we had the main component set 1.2, the ListItems 1.1, etc. From 15.10 onwards all its sub-modules, including themes will be aligned to 1.3 version, and the plan is that with the next LTS (16.04) we will open 2.0, which will not necessarily mean every LTS will bring major release update. However. Bumping version with every release in modules which do not bring new APIs are a bit of an overkill.
